Turn off IPAD 2

Hello
When I Press or even Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button the red slider doesnot appear, the IPAD 2 just clicks and screen goes off ( no slide to power off) then when I press it again it comes back on. It seems the ipad is going to sleep mode and not turning off.
I tried the following:
I pressed the sleep/wake button and home button both together, the red slider appears and I was able to turn it off, but I have to do this each time I want to turn it off.
I also tried to reset the ipad ( General > Reset, then tap Reset All Settings) but the problem is not resolved.

Try the hard reset again. Hold the sleep and home buttons down at the same time BUT IGNORE the red slider. Do not use the red slider to power the device off. Just hold down on both buttons and wait until the iPad shuts off on its own, restarts, and the white Apple logo appears on the screen.
After you do this see if you can turn the iPad off with just the sleep button. You have to hold the button down for a couple of seconds until the red slider appears on the screen.

Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if you can then send emails

  • Cannot turn off iPad

I pressed sleep buttom for several minutes, but nothing shows on the screen except the apple mark. I would like to know how to turn off iPad if sleep buttom does not work.

Try resetting the iPad. Hold down on the sleep AND home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Ignore the red slider. Let go of the buttons. Let the iPad fully restart and then try to turn the iPad off again.

  • Do you turn off iPad at night? And how to put movie?

Do you turn off iPad during the night? or leaving it ON? and how can I put a movie on the iPad?

I responded to your first post but you can count my vote here as well. I don't usually turn off the iPad at night, but I restart which involves turning the device off and then on again every day. When I go to bed, I plug into the power adapter to charge the battery and I leave the iPad turned on all night.
What kind of movie are you talking about? You can download movies with iTunes on the iPad or on your computer. To get a movie in your iTunes library over to your iPad you have to select the movie in iTunes and sync the movie to the iPad.

  • Turning off iPad after use

I notice that whenever I turn off iPad and then turn it back on later, it seems to run more efficiently. Will turning it off after every use and then turn it back on later be bad for the life of the iPad?

Shouldn't be - there are no moving parts, so no extra wear and tear. I restart mine periodically (maybe once a week or so)
A possible explanation is that restarting kills off all running apps, freeing up memory. You might get the same effect by using the multi-tasking bar to kill off surplus apps. Double-tap the Home button to get the bar, then tap and hold an app icon until they show the red badge. Tap the red badge for each one you want to kill off.

  • When trying to use App Store I get a message "could not sign in an unknown error has occurred." I reset our connection and turned off iPad. Any suggestions?

When trying to use the App Store, I get a message "could not sign in, an unknown error has occurred,  any suggestions what is wrong?  I reset our Internet and turned off the iPad.

Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try again.

  • Is there anyway to require the password before turn off iPad?

Excuse me, Is there anyway to require the password before turn off the iPad? I would like to know how to protect my iPad from stolen.
    Thank you for every guiding.

You normally ask for password when you turn ON and not OFF.
    Settings>General>Passcode Lock>On

  • Why does closing Smart Cover no longer turn off iPad?

I have had my iPad 2 and its Smart Cover for about a week. At first, closing the Smart Cover turned off the iPad, as it should. Yesterday this feature disappeared -- I close the Smart Cover and the iPad stays on. I have looked for settings that might turn this behavior on and off, but cannot find one. Am I overlooking the setting, or is my Smart Cover a lemon?

Thanks! That does work. At first I thought it didn't, because I didn't hear the little click that indicates that the iPad has turned off. But then I realized that I also had to change the setting Use Side Switch To to Mute and then change its position. I did that and the little click came back.
I had thought locking was different from turning off. I thought that if you locked the iPad 2, then you needed to enter a password to unlock it. That's why I didn't think that iPad Cover Lock/Unlock was the setting I needed to change.

  • Do I need to turn off iPad at night, Do I need to turn off iPad at night

Do I need to disable iPad during the night when you do not use?

The only reason to ever turn off your iPad is if you are trying to conserve battery charge.
There are plenty of times where shutting off the iPad is called for and does make sense. Restarting is a basic troubleshooting step. That does involve turning the iPad off. There is absolutely no reason why you cannot turn the device off as well. As I stated, I shut mine off every once in a while. If you are not going to be using it for a couple of days, why leave it turned on?

  • Lock screen - does it really turn off ipad mini?

....because i do this and i still hear the email chime.
i know i can go under sounds and select none for email. i know i can mute the whole ipad.
does it really power down when i tap lock screen?

Ive had 3 iPads now including a Mini and I have never really seriously used the off/on switch at the side of the device. I find that as long as I power down all the hidden Apps so that all of them are off, it sleeps without loosing much power. I only turn off my Mini in theaters...
I only have one hand so I can't do a reboot using both hardware buttons, that's my issue?
