Turn off usb ports

Hi,
Is there a way to disable/turn off the usb ports when you put the mac to sleep?   I have a laptop fan and a pair of speakers connected to my mac's usb ports and would like them to automaticaly turn off when I put the mac to sleep.   Thanks for any suggestions.
David

Powered ports apparently create a lot of static noise
Personally, I've neither heard of that nor have I experienced it. Can you explain where/how you hear the noise? This may be a hardware issue such as a faulty port and/or logic board.

  • Closing lid on my CQ61 turns off USB ports...

I am trying to use my Compaq CQ61Z as a HTPC.  I have it connected via HDMI to my stereo receiver and use a wireless keyboard/mouse with a USB receiver to control it from across the room.
Everything works fine, unless I close the lid.  I found the power setting to not have the laptop automatically go to sleep when the lid is closed, but the keyboard/mouse stop working when the lid is closed.  This pretty much kills the idea of using this laptop as a HTPC.
As soon as I open the lid, the kb & mouse start working again.  I can't find anything in the power settings that would affect the USB ports.
    Any suggestions?

  • H97M-G43 how to turn off SATA port in a BIOS?

Hello, i've installed Ubuntu on my first hard drive (SSD) and recently bought the second drive (SSD). I plan to install Windows 8 on it. It is possible to turn off sata port with first hard drive in a BIOS?

    Hello,
Not really disable SATA port, as if something is connected then it will detect this. If not, then no.
Go into BIOS and change boot priority order in order to set HDD or SSD to be #1 when booting. Also when you install Windows, it will actually show you all partitions (both HDD and SSD).
Thanks, how can i correctly change the boot order (Step by step, please)? And what is Hard drive BBS Priorities? And UEFI BBS Priorities?

  • Power-off USB-port when O.S. restarts

I need to switch-off the power of the USB-ports when system restarts.
I have a device connected to an USB-port and it gets the power from the USB-port.
I need that, when the system restarts (a simple software restart, not a complete reboot), the device is restarted with a power-off/power-on.
I have already tried with "devcon restart *ROOT_HUB*", but the command seams that restarts the software layers not the physical power.

  • IMac Retina shuts off USB ports when sleeping

I have a new iMac Retina i7 with 32GB RAM running Yosemite. Approximately 60% percent of the time, when the iMac goes to sleep, it shuts off all of the USB ports. This includes dumping hard drives without properly ejecting them, as well as shutting off powered USB hubs. Switching the drives and hubs around to different ports does not help the problem, and it appears to be becoming more frequent. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I too am having hub issues with my 5K iMac. I purchased an Amazon Basics hub, that never worked at all. I returned it and got one made by vantec. I have two external hard drives connected to it, and they always are recognized after sleep or restart. But other things get dropped, like my two printers. I seem to be able to resolve the dropped hub ports by ejecting my external hard drives and then unplugging the power to the hub, then reconnecting the power. When i do, all the indicator lights come on again, and things work.
I am working with Vantec about this issue, they have been terrific by email, and they are offering to replace the hub. But now I am wondering if something more basic is wrong, like this SMC reset that has been mentioned in this thread. I was about to ask if that was hard to do, but I just looked at the link provided by Ralph, and doing it is easy-peasy. I will give this a try, and try to remember to report back.
    thanks, Peter

  • Windows XP won't boot, turns off USB keyboard

    Hey Macfolks,
I'm running the latest Boot Camp on a 21" iMac (3.06 GHZ) and Snow Leopard. Windows XP (service pack 3) ran great the first time I installed it using Boot Camp assistant, but...
Now when I try to boot to Windows I have two problems:
    1. It won't boot up, but freezes on a white screen.
    2. It kills the USB keyboard. The keyboard and mouse running through it just stop working.
I can get the keyboard back if I restart, hold OPTION then choose the start up disk -- which I'm shocked works at all because the moment the OSX login screen comes up, the keyboard's frozen again -- then unplug the keyboard, restart again under OSX and plug the keyboard back in to get it working once more.
Honestly, I just want Windows to boot up like it's supposed to. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Many thanks!

I heard a rumor that Windows XP has trouble with iMacs and the new Boot Camp. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
    Thanks!

  • Cisco 3750x switch. Turning off a port at night

    Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding power management for the Cisco 3750x Switches. Is it possible to power down switch ports
automatically at a specific time and if so how. I would like several Ports to be powered down between 2 and 3 o clock at night.
Can anyone tell me how i can realise this? (these switches have Energie Wise capabilities)
I hope to hear from you soon.
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Wouter Platteeuw

    few things to try:
Go to your email setup, go to the account in question, go to filters, Check the box that says "do not forward messages to the device" Set this back to the default if this doesn't work.
Something else:  try using the blackberry firewall
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB23877
I think this will block all email though, but you can take a look at the options.

  • USB Port mystery

All my USB ports stopped working. I turned the computer off and back on a couple times, nothing. Tried several different devices known to work, each several times. Then I shut the lid and came home. At home I tried again, and it was back working. Can anyone think why this would happen just once, then recover by itself?

If you have't done already try this.
Check the properties in device manager, by default Windows is set to turn off USB ports to save power.
R-click "my comp" go down to "property" and open
Now click "Dev manag" and go down to USB root hub and check the power managment tab (last tab on top right i believe) un check "let win turn device off to save power" Hope it helps

  • Can I turn off ultrasonic sensor or the ports?

    Hi every one,
I'm a new user for Labview NXTToolkit.
Before this I just had used Robolab...
    The question is:
If I use two ultrasonic sensors
in one NXT brick at the same time,
can I shut down one of them, or just
    turn off the port?
They used to measure different direction,
but can't turn on at the same time.
How can I solve this problem?
Anyone would like to show me some hints,
    Thanks a lot.
    Billy

Note that this is a hardware limitation, not a software limitation.
To solve this problem, each ultrasonic sensor would have to emit a
uniquely encoded signal and discard any signals it read that were not
of its own encoding.  Personally, I don't know all the technical
details of how the ultrasonic sensor works, so I'm not even sure if
encoding the signals is feasible (or cost-effective).  Even if it were,
I imagine only new ultrasonic sensors would do the encoding -- there
probably wouldn't be a way to update all of your old sensors.  But I'm
    just speculating.
In any case, I have not heard any
rumors about LEGO changing this behavior, so waiting for LEGO, NI, or
RoboLab to solve this problem for you isn't a great idea.  I would
recommend you explore alternate solutions.  Can you get enough data
about distance in one direction using some other sensor (touch or light)?

  • Syncing iPad & iPod...  device USB port cable connector question

I have an iPad & iPod 4th gen.... both syncing cables look identical..no identity markings on either. I'm not sure now which came with which device.
QUESTION: Are the syncing/charging ( know I can't charge iPad off USB port) cables given with purchase interchangable for these 2 devices?
    Thanks!

Yes, the cables work the same. It is an Apple proprietary 30 pin connector.
The chargers are different. The iPhone/iPod charger is 5 watt. The iPad charger is 10 watt. But you can use the iPad charger with iPhones/iPods because it is self limiting.

  • My ipod touch is connected to my USB port, it sais it's charging although... it doesn't show on itunes that i have plugged my device in, once i turn my ipod on the apple icon appears but then loses battery streight away and starts off all over again.

although it is doing what i asked it to do, i want it to charge, ok so it does it... although when i turn it on it's as if it's either not charged at all but only enough to have the apple icon on my ipod, once it's had enough (which is like, a minute) it switches itself off and carries on charging, sometimes it switches itself on but this just takes it back to step one. also, when i connect my device to the USB port itunes does not recognise it for some reason, i've updated the newest version of itunes recently and i've tried annother ipod on annother computer with the same USB cable, so it's either the newest version of itunes, my ipod or my computer. please help
    P.S,

Let the battery fully darain. After charging for an least an hour try a reset and restore. Use Recovery mode if necessary.
If not successful, then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

My problem - when syncing and error messages  comes up:  iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone because an error occurred while margin data."  I've tried turning the phone off and back on, & tried both USB ports but get the same thing.  What can I do next since it doesn't give me even one clue as to what the error would be?

Before I started to resync calendars one by one as suggested in the troubleshooting article, I remembered something that came up in a sync when I first attempted :  a 'which one do you want to keep' message about a repeating calendar event, which came up with three options, one from Calendar, and two from iCal on the phone.  I deleted that event, then went through the calendar resync one by one, and all seems OK now.
In Music there is a way to find 'ghost' items that show up as grayed-out on the menus, so that you can try to reassociate or delete them.  It would be nice to have a similar way to work with Calendar!
Thanks for pointing me to the right article.
