Turn on trace in ABAP Program

Dear Gurus ,
Due to some reason ST05 is not supporting our cause and making us turning toward developing our own program where we trun the trace on,call the program - rsarfcex and turn off the trace and schedule the same as batch job .
Appricate If you can help me out to achive the same .In short I would like build program where i turn on/off the trace .
Thanks in Advance
Sameer

that is nonsense !!
you can run SQL, if you are allowed and carefu, at any time. I have done it probably more often than
you will do in the rest of your life.

• ABAP program can't connect to a HTTP destination

Hello,
I have an ABAP program that's used to download data from an internet site. As an internet access proxy has been installed, the program stopped working, displaying an error message:
...Connect to host...Port 80 error: NIECONN_REFUSED
Reading through the forum I found out that it's possible to turn general proxy setting for SAP through transaction SM59 (RFC - proxy configuration), but entering the proxy information didn't help...
Excerpt from the ABAP code:
concatenate 'http://www.hnb.hr/tecajn/f'
newdatum+6(2) newdatum+4(2) newdatum+2(2)'.dat'
into link.
refresh: itab, resp.
call function 'HTTP_GET'
exporting
absolute_uri          = link
rfc_destination       = 'SAPHTTP'
blankstocrlf          = 'X'
tables
response_entity_body  = itab
response_headers      = resp
exceptions
connect_failed        = 1
timeout               = 2
internal_error        = 3
tcpip_error           = 4
data_error            = 5
system_failure        = 6
communication_failure = 7
others                = 8.
Any ideas? I'm not an ABAP-er but I still can make small changes in code - are there any parameters that can be inserted in the code to direct the function to use proxy?

Efectively, the port is not 80, the connection to the proxy is good. I took a look in the trace and it seems to me that my program doesn't use proxy?...

• Triggering Event in BW through a ABAP Program in R/3

Hello Friends,
I am working on triggering a process chain in BW using ABAP program in R/3.
1. I have created a test process-chain in BW which sends test email upon running. This process chain is triggered by an event "Z_START_PC".
2. I created a function module "ZBW_EVENT_RAISE" which triggers this event.
( This function module is "remote enabled module")
3. I tested running the process chain, with function-module (SE37), which works fine.
( i.e. I do receive test-email after..)
4.  Now I created a ABAP program "ZBW_EVENT_RAISE" in R/3.
The code of which is as follows:
REPORT  ZBW_EVENT_RAISE.
parameters: rfcdest like t000-logsys.
parameters: bwevent like tbtco-eventid.
call function 'ZBW_EVENT_RAISE'
destination rfcdest
exporting
eventid = bwevent.
5. When I try to run this ABAP program in R/3 (SE38),
The process chain does not get triggered.
(a)  The "rfcdest" i got from SM59 - RFC Destinations -
R/3 Connections - BW Development Server Client
Value is "BWDCLNT999".
How do I go about debugging this issue? I know for sure, the BW- function module -- to Trigger -- to Process-chain is working fine. Only part is R/3 to B/W function module starting.
Any help is appreciated.
I promise to award points.
Thanks
PK

in ST05 there is an option for RFC trace. Not sure how much detail that will give you but you can try.
It is possible that your userid doesn't have an RFC call authorization in R/3. Do a SU53 immediately after running the program.
Also, replace the FM with any other FM that you know for sure runs (eg some BAPI FM) and run it - either in SE37 in R/3 with RFC destination for BW, or, from your code itself and see if that works (you can check return code).

• Error while calling ABAP program from Data Services

Hi All,
We have a ABAP program which accepts two parameters 1] a date 2] a string of comma separated ARTICLE numbers .
We have used a ABAB transform in ABAP dataflow which refers this ABAP program.
If I pass a string of 6 articles as second parameter the job executes successfully
But if i pass 9 articles as follows
$GV_ITEM_VALUES='3564785,1234789,1234509,1987654,1234567,2345678,3456789,4567890,5456759';
i get the following error
ABAP program syntax error: <Literals that take up more than one line are not permitted>.
The error occurs immediately after ABAP dataflow starts, ie even before the ABAP job gets submitted to ECC
I am using BODS 4.2 . The datatype of $GV_ITEM_VALUES is varchar(1000).
The ABAP program that gets generated by the DS job has the following datatype for this parameter
PARAMETER $PARAM2(1000) TYPE C
Is there a different way to pass string characters to ABAP transform in data services?
I have attached the screen shot of trace log and error
Regards,
Sharayu

Hi Sharayu,
The error your getting is because the literals exceeds more than 72 characters.
It seems that the length of the string is exceeding more than 72 character.
Can you check the following in ECC GUI
Go to Transaction SE38=>Utilities=>Settings=>ABAP Editor=>Editor=> Downwards -Comp.Line  Length(72).
The checkbox which defines length 72 must be clicked so the error is coming. Can you uncheck the checkbox and then try passing the parameter $GV_ITEM_VALUES using the BODS job

• Performance issue in abap program

hi,
how can we improve the performance of abap program

hi,
read the follwing links
ABAP provides few tools to analyse the perfomance of the objects, which was developed by us.
Run time analysis transaction SE30
This transaction gives all the analysis of an ABAP program with respect to the database and the non-database processing.
SQL Trace transaction ST05
by using this tool we can analyse the perfomance issues related to DATABASE calls.
Perfomance Techniques for improve the perfomance of the object.
1) ABAP/4 programs can take a very long time to execute, and can make other processes have to wait before executing. Here are some tips to speed up your programs and reduce the load your programs put on the system:
2) Use the GET RUN TIME command to help evaluate performance. It's hard to know whether that optimization technique REALLY helps unless you test it out.
3) Using this tool can help you know what is effective, under what kinds of conditions. The GET RUN TIME has problems under multiple CPUs, so you should use it to test small pieces of your program, rather than the whole program.
4) Generally, try to reduce I/O first, then memory, then CPU activity. I/O operations that read/write to hard disk are always the most expensive operations. Memory, if not controlled, may have to be written to swap space on the hard disk, which therefore increases your I/O read/writes to disk. CPU activity can be reduced by careful program design, and by using commands such as SUM (SQL) and COLLECT (ABAP/4).
5) Avoid 'SELECT *', especially in tables that have a lot of fields. Use SELECT A B C INTO instead, so that fields are only read if they are used. This can make a very big difference.
6) Field-groups can be useful for multi-level sorting and displaying. However, they write their data to the system's paging space, rather than to memory (internal tables use memory). For this reason, field-groups are only appropriate for processing large lists (e.g. over 50,000 records). If you have large lists, you should work with the systems administrator to decide the maximum amount of RAM your program should use, and from that, calculate how much space your lists will use. Then you can decide whether to write the data to memory or swap space.
Use as many table keys as possible in the WHERE part of your select statements.
7)Whenever possible, design the program to access a relatively constant number of records (for instance, if you only access the transactions for one month, then there probably will be a reasonable range, like 1200-1800, for the number of transactions inputted within that month). Then use a SELECT A B C INTO TABLE ITAB statement.
8) Get a good idea of how many records you will be accessing. Log into your productive system, and use SE80 -> Dictionary Objects (press Edit), enter the table name you want to see, and press Display. Go To Utilities -> Table Contents to query the table contents and see the number of records. This is extremely useful in optimizing a program's memory allocation.
9) Try to make the user interface such that the program gradually unfolds more information to the user, rather than giving a huge list of information all at once to the user.
10) Declare your internal tables using OCCURS NUM_RECS, where NUM_RECS is the number of records you expect to be accessing. If the number of records exceeds NUM_RECS, the data will be kept in swap space (not memory).
11) Use SELECT A B C INTO TABLE ITAB whenever possible. This will read all of the records into the itab in one operation, rather than repeated operations that result from a SELECT A B C INTO ITAB... ENDSELECT statement. Make sure that ITAB is declared with OCCURS NUM_RECS, where NUM_RECS is the number of records you expect to access.
12) If the number of records you are reading is constantly growing, you may be able to break it into chunks of relatively constant size. For instance, if you have to read all records from 1991 to present, you can break it into quarters, and read all records one quarter at a time. This will reduce I/O operations. Test extensively with GET RUN TIME when using this method.
13) Know how to use the 'collect' command. It can be very efficient.
14) Use the SELECT SINGLE command whenever possible.
15) Many tables contain totals fields (such as monthly expense totals). Use these avoid wasting resources by calculating a total that has already been calculated and stored.
Some tips:
1) Use joins where possible as redundant data is not fetched.
2) Use select single where ever possible.
3) Calling methods of a global class is faster than calling function modules.
4) Use constants instead of literals
5) Use WHILE instead of a DO-EXIT-ENDDO.
6) Unnecessary MOVEs should be avoided by using the explicit work area operations

Hi Vince,
If a table is empty field catalog usually return no error it just display your field catalog with headers .
I think the issue is with building of field catalog .
May be some settings are missing there .
Please check FM REUSE_ALV_FIELDCATALOG_MERGE where field catalog is getting generated.

• How to I insert ABAP Programs in Process Chain ?

Hi mates,
I need to know how exactly in a Process Chain can I start a ABAP Program ?
For Instance, if X happens the go and execute this program it not execute Y program ?
Kindly advice

Hi,
Yes you can definitely insert an ABAP program process in a PC.
You can include a ABAP Process which is available in the Processes under PC. And it asks for a Variant and ABAP report name.
You need to create a Variant for the ABAP program.
This will also have a Output, like if in case the variants are correct and the Program logic is matched then in that case the output is given else not given. Which turns the process GREEN / RED accordingly.
Hope this helps,
Pradip Parmar

• Trigger a waiting ABAP program from a User Exit of CO01

Hi all,
We would like to launch a ABAP program from a User Exit (EXIT_SAPLCOZV_001) of CO01, this ABAP program has a special characteristic: using Function Module RFC_PING_AND_WAIT, so this program will be existing until terminating event coming.
Our purpose is terminate CO01 normally before finishing of ABAP program. We don't know if it's possible?
Actually:
1. when we use SUBMIT ..., the process will stop CO01 (stop not normally) and then launch ABAP program. => This is not suitable for our purpose.
2. when we use SUBMIT ... and RETURN, CO01 will wait for finishing of ABAP program => This is not suitable for our purpose too, because we wish CO01 terminated normally when ABAP program is still existing and waiting for its terminating event.
Do you have a solution that is suitable for our purpose, could you please help us?
(The context is below:
Time:  Begin-->CO finished> ABAP finished-->
Launch CO01 --> Call User Exit --> Call ABAP program for waiting --> CO01 saved normally.
> ABAP program still waiting ---> waiting for terminating event
Thanks a lot,
Vinh Vo

Hi,
Try with the function module BP_EVENT_RAISE, it takes eventid, and eventparm as import parameters in the User exit.
1) With Eventid, you create a background job of the ABAP program and schedule it. Eventparm can be the Production order number.
2) So when ever the Event is triggered the FM gets triggered and which in turn run the ABAP program, so the foreground the CO01 transaction runs without waiting for the ABAP program to complete.

• The performance of ABAP programs

Hey Experts , how can one analyze the performance of ABAP programs apart from using the generic tools such as Trace etc.

Hi Chakradhar,
Overview & Introduction
The runtime analysis tool allows you to examine the performance of any ABAP programs, such as reports, subroutines, function modules or classes, that you create in the ABAP workbench. It saves its results in performance data files, which you can display as lists. You can use these results to identify runtime-intensive statements, to combine table accesses, and show the hierarchy of program calls.
Normally you use the runtime analysis tool to measure the runtime of complex program segments or complete transactions (if you want to measure the runtime of smaller program segments or individual ABAP statements you can use the ABAP statement GET RUN TIME FIELD ).
However, we use only simple
The Programs to be Analyzed
Let's assume I am a very newbie in ABAP and I have written a tiny little program which is doing the following:
reading data from a database table
storing that data in an internal table
display that data on a list (at the start of the program you have to specify certain key values; only matching data should be displayed later on).
So here it comes (and it seems to work as designed ...)
REPORT  y_wlog_atra_1.
PARAMETERS: p_carrid TYPE sbook-carrid DEFAULT 'LH',
p_connid TYPE sbook-connid DEFAULT '0400'.
DATA: wa_sbook TYPE sbook,
itab_sbook TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF sbook.
*SELECT * FROM sbook INTO wa_sbook.*
CHECK: wa_sbook-carrid = 'LH' AND
wa_sbook-connid = '0400'.
APPEND wa_sbook TO itab_sbook.
ENDSELECT.
LOOP AT itab_sbook INTO wa_sbook.
WRITE: /,
wa_sbook-carrid,
wa_sbook-connid,
wa_sbook-fldate,
wa_sbook-bookid,
wa_sbook-customid,
wa_sbook-custtype.
ENDLOOP.
A nice colleague has thrown a glance at my source code. He has given the hint to use a WHERE clause with the SELECT statement instead of the CHECK statement for reasons of better performance.
So I have written another program:
REPORT  y_wlog_atra_2.
*SELECT * FROM sbook INTO wa_sbook*
WHERE carrid = 'LH' AND
connid = '0400'.
APPEND wa_sbook TO itab_sbook.
ENDSELECT.
I am curious about the performance now. Let's compare the 2 variants with the ABAP Runtime Analysis tool.
ABAP Runtime Analysis: Tool & Procedure
To start it, choose Test --> Runtime Analysis in the SAP Menu, or use transaction SE30 .
The runtime analysis procedure consists of two parts:
Recording performance data (upper part of the screen)
Analyzing the performance data (lower part of the screen; this part only appears if there are performance data files in place)
The procedure for the first part (Recording performance data):
We go to the initial screen of the runtime analysis (transaction code SE30 ) and specify the name of the first program (Y_WLOG_ATRA_1) in the relevant input field. After that we press the button Execute .
The selection screen of the program Y_WLOG_ATRA_1 (including the 2 input fields) is displayed. At the bottom of the screen we are informed that the measurement has been started. We continue by clicking the Execute button.
Later on we will see that a file (containing performance data) has been created in parallel.
Now we repeat that procedure for our second program (Y_WLOG_ATRA_2).
The second step is the analysis of the generated performance data.
To do that we have to go to the initial screen of the Runtime Analysis tool again. On the bottom part of the screen you can specify those performance data files you want to analyze.
You can see some information related to the last measurement run (in our case that was program (Y_WLOG_ATRA_2). By pressing the button Other File we are able to select those performance data files we like to analyze.
I want to see all the files I have created (user BCUSER).
I get the relevant list with 2 lines (related to the performance data files of the programs Y_WLOG_ATRA_1 and Y_WLOG_ATRA_2).
Based on that list you can display the distinct performance data per line. You have to click in the column Object Type of the relevant line.
As a start the tool displays the evaluation overview (showing the cumulated execution times for the ABAP, database and system-level).
Here comes the evaluation overview for program Y_WLOG_ATRA_1
We can do the same for the other program Y_WLOG_ATRA_2
By comparing the perfomance data of the 2 programs we clearly see that I have done well with listening to the advice of my colleague. The performance of the second program is dramatically better.
In the next step you can forward to a more detailed display of the performance data (Hitlists). That listing shows the different granular execution steps ( according to your filter adjustments ). Here you can easily identify the most time-consuming progam units.
And it will also be a good idea to glance at the Tips & Tricks corner. You will find many valuable suggestions about good performance definitely.
Please use the below link to see the Screen shots of the screens

• Write an ABAP program in BW which triggers an event in R/3

Hello People
Method: I need to create a Process Chain in BW for info package loading. In the PC, after the loading occurs, I need to write an ABAP program which has the FM: RSSM_EVENT _RAISE , which triggers a pre-defined event in R/3. This event in turn triggers a 'z' program in R/3.
Now, I know that we can use SM62 in R/3 to create the event. But how and where do i need to write the abap code in BW. And do i just place it in the PC after the loading process? Do i need to inculde the FM in the ABAP code? Does the FM know the server in R/3 ( DEV or QA or PROD ) where it needs to trigger the event? And how do i schedule the 'z' prog, so that it starts after the event?
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

Create and rfc function module in r/3 in which code you trigger the event, created in r/3 too.
You can, and should to do it, include a report as step in your process chain in order to trigger event at finish of process chain.

• Error consuming Web service from an ABAP Program

Hello guys,
I'm trying to consume a Web Service that is exposed in the internet. The conecction to the Web Service its via SSL.
I'm having a problem at the moment I call the web service from my abap program. But I'm able to test the same web service, from the SE80 tx with out trouble.
I have identify that there is a difference in the SOAP envelope, that its received in the Web service, when I call it from the test enviorment and when I call it from the program.
This is how it is received from the TEST tool (a succesfull call of th WS) :
<soap-env:Envelope xmlns:soap-env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
<soap-env:Header><n0:Trace xmlns:n0="http://www.sap.com/webas/630/soap/features/runtime/tracing/"><TraceLevel xmlns="http://www.sap.com/webas/630/soap/features/runtime/tracing/">Error</TraceLevel></n0:Trace></soap-env:Header><soap-env:Body><nr1:putXMLDocument xmlns:nr1="http://bel.bci.cl/WsBEL/services/Carga">
<Mensaje><RutEmpresa><Numero>76555400</Numero><Digito>4</Digito></RutEmpresa><RutUsuario><Numero>12307972</Numero><Digito>8</Digito></RutUsuario><Convenio>58422</Convenio><Pin>aro79728</Pin><Archivo><Tipo>PPR</Tipo><Plantilla>2142970592</Plantilla><Nombre>cargatest174.txt</Nombre><Cuerpo>G126919727     JORGE CRISTIAN VARGAS ROMERO                                                     0000VVC01600000000000000000000245FAC0000000089900032000021030000010000000000190000   2910200714082008Boletas honorarios|</Cuerpo></Archivo><Fecha>20080814</Fecha></Mensaje>
</nr1:putXMLDocument></soap-env:Body></soap-env:Envelope>
And this is how it is received when I consume the web service from the ABAP program.
<soap-env:Envelope xmlns:soap-env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
<soap-env:Header><n0:Trace xmlns:n0="http://www.sap.com/webas/630/soap/features/runtime/tracing/"><TraceLevel xmlns="http://www.sap.com/webas/630/soap/features/runtime/tracing/">Error</TraceLevel></n0:Trace></soap-env:Header><soap-env:Body><nr1:putXMLDocument xmlns:nr1="http://bel.bci.cl/WsBEL/services/Carga">
<nr1:putXMLDocument xmlns:nr1="http://bel.bci.cl/WsBEL/services/Carga">
<Mensaje><RutEmpresa><Numero>76555400</Numero><Digito>4</Digito></RutEmpresa><RutUsuario><Numero>12307972</Numero><Digito>8</Digito></RutUsuario><Convenio>58422</Convenio><Pin>aro79728</Pin><Archivo><Tipo>PPR</Tipo><Plantilla>2142970592</Plantilla><Nombre>cargatest174.txt</Nombre><Cuerpo>G126919727 JORGE CRISTIAN VARGAS ROMERO 0000VVC01600000000000000000000245FAC0000000089900032000021030000010000000000190000 2910200714082008Boletas honorarios|</Cuerpo></Archivo><Fecha>20080814</Fecha></Mensaje>
</nr1:putXMLDocument>
</nr1:putXMLDocument></soap-env:Body></soap-env:Envelope>
As you can see, it is generating a nr1:putXMLDocument tag, that it should not go there.
Why do you think that this situation is happening? Please guys, this is very important, and need your help. Thanks in advance.
Samuel.
