Turning a 'code view' only file to a 'design view' file

Thanks for reading.
I am using Dreamweaver 8. I have INC files that I would to be
able to edit in design view as opposed to strictly code view. (lots
of tables and I'd rather just visually edit the cells) I can view
them in the PHP files they are called from (which is a start) but I
need to be able to edit just the INC file in design view; not view
it in the PHP file and then open the INC file in code view.
I have gone through the help file and done the following
(restarting dreamweaver each time):
1) removed INC from the list at dreamweaver >>
Preferences >> FileTypes / Editors >> Open in Code View
2) checked to make sure the INC extention is in the
extension.txt file (it is by default) I've tried moving it to be an
html file, leaving it as a server sife include, and creating a new
'include file' distinction for it. None of it works.
3) Going through the rest of the documentation isn't terribly
helpful. It mentions files and folders I can not find. Most of the
decent documentation I can find is for MX; but the files it points
me to don't seem exist in my installation.
I'm sure this is a really easy problem with a simple
solution; but I am overlooking it. Do I need to find more folders
from my installation? Do I create these folders manually as I need
them? What files go in them? Getting this figured out so I can make
edits to INC files in design view would help me out tremendously.
Thanks for any help.

Save them as *.html rather than *.inc files....

  • Always open files in code view?

I never use design view and it's very annoying that Dreamwaver CS4 can't seem to understand and remember that. I can be editing a file one day in code view, and when I open the file again the next day it opens in design view!? Is there a setting for this somewhere or is this a bug? Any suggestions for a solution?

The preference to open in Code view prevents that page type from being opened any other way. It means open ONLY in Code view.
The way that Dreamweaver opens documents follows a logical pattern. If no document is open, the first document is opened in whichever view was active when the last document was closed or Dreamweaver was shut down. If a document is already open, Dreamweaver opens the next document in the same view.
If you always work in Split view, as I do, all documents will open in Split view. The only exception is if you open a file that is set to open in Code view only. If that document is active when you open a new document, it will also be in Code view.
It's logical and simple to understand. If you don't like the way it works, file an enhancement request through the official form at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform.

  • Slow to open files or switch tabs in code view

Dreamweaver 13.2 on Windows machines and a Mac.
Opening locally stored html files take 3 to 10 seconds to open. After they are open, they will occasionally slow down for a second or two before becoming responsive again. This is in code view. If I disconnect the network cable and open dreamweaver, it will run fast until you restart the program again with the network cable plugged in. You can plug in the network cable anytime after Dreamweaver loads and it will remain fast.
This has been going on for a couple of months now and it happens to multiple machines running Windows OR Mac and regardless of the network I'm on, lan or wireless. Task manager doesn't show a spike in network activity at the time, so I'm not sure what Dreamweaver is trying to do.
Is there something I can test/turn off/disable/update to troubleshoot this? I've disabled the settings sync for Creative Cloud but still has no effect.

Do your files contain many links to external servers such as Google Ads, Facebook badges, scripts or web fonts hosted on CDNs?    You might try commenting these out in your code to see if that improves performance.

  • 'Save as' file shows blank code view until reopened

Odd behaviour that I have noticed just recently (say last week - so could be after the XMP updates to CS5). I have a large number of PHP pages within a development site, they reference headers and footers etc... If I carry out a 'Save as' procedure, the orginal file stays open, and a new tab opens to its right with the filename entered during the 'Save as' operation. But instead of showinng the code in the Code View, it appears blank. Selecting Split or Design view also presents a blank pane. Note that Live Code and Live View were not activated during the above. Interestingly, if I do switch Live View on, though the Code View remains blank, the Design View renders as one would expect. If I switch Live Code, both Code View and Design View show code and rendered designs. In both the latter cases, if I switch off Live Code/View, when it goes back to ordinary Code View - once again nothing is visible in its pane.  However, if I close 'saved as' file's tab, and then navigate to and open it, the Code View is displaying the code. So the code was there, when initially created in the 'Save as' operation, but was being shown/displayed in the Code View pane.
I have DW CS5 build 4916, and don't recall this being a problem when I initially updated to CS5. My OS is Mac 10.6.4. The pages concerned have not been newly created and form part of a project that has been in progress from early last year and so started in the CS4 of Dreamweaver.

Possible good news. I've been away and hadn't opened DW since also having had a problem with Finder and external drives on my return. When I opened it today, and needed to do a 'Save As' , it did it with no problem of rendering. Though there have been no DW updates, there was updates to PS and ID. So I'll tentatively say the problem has gone away - hopefully for good.
Just editing this post. I happened to turn  Live View on etc.. for the first time in a couple of weeks due to the  above. I realsied this morning I hadn't turned it on. Now it is just as  before when I try to 'Save As' - blank, an then have to close and reopen  for it to render (even though the Live View/Live Code is now stiched  off).
No I don't know how to turn this thread back into an 'Unanswered' question.

  • Even with Apple Quick Time 7.7 I cannot open, much less play, any wmv files.  It gives me only the code behind the file, never the video. What's going on?

I never have been able to open wmv files/attachments with the Apple Quick Time player I've got on this MacBook Pro.  A click on any wmv file leads me only to Text/Edit and all the code behind the file.  What is going on?  I have Quick Time 7.7 (1680.25).

Those are Windows Media files, and they're not supported natively in any version of QuickTime. You can view them in some third-party applications, such as VideoLAN Client, or you can install the Flip4Mac QuickTime component which makes them playable in QT Player.

  • Code view only showing not design view

I was asked to make some changes to a web site, I did not create. I can see the code however I cannot see the design view. I can only see green lines table layout. I need to be able to see the design view to move pictures. I also get a message convert active content. The index page is .php not.html that I am use to.
I really want to fix this site. Please help. Thank you!

How comfortable are you in HTML?  How much do you know about PHP?
Note that your attached code file is queued and will likely remain in that state for decades.  The better way to do this would be to save the .php page as a .txt file, and upload it somewhere - then post a link to it.

  • Where is the setting in LR 2.0 to turn on the view the embedded jpg file instead of rendering a thum

Where is the setting in LR 2.0 to turn on the view the embedded jpg file instead of rendering a thumbnail image from the RAW file?

Doug, this is a user to user forum so you get advice here from other users just like yourself.
AFAIK LR will show the embedded jpeg until it renders its own preview after that there is no way to get it to show the embedded jpeg.
When you are importing photos into LR in the import dialog box there is an option to show a preview of the embedded jpeg while the import is actually taking place.
Also this is the regular LR user to user forum and there is a link to the LR 2.0 Beta forum at the top of this forum. Maybe its best to post your question there.

I can be editing a file one day in code view, and when I open the file again the next day it opens in design view!? Is there a setting for this somewhere or is this a bug? Someone suggested I add the relevant suffixes in the "Open in code view" field (Preferences > File Types / Editors) but Adobe has decided that if I choose to always open a certain file type in code view via this method, I will not be allowed to temporarlily switch to design/split view.
    Any other suggestions?

All I can suggest is that you post an official feature request via the official form and wait for Adobe to implement something in CS6 or CS7 (assuming the feature set for CS5 is set in stone by now).

  • After applying a template to a page design view is blank - I can only edit in code view.

When I apply a template to a page everything is fine. I can see the page elements in design view and code view. I can edit the page and upload it and all is fine. However, when I save the page with a new name or close the page and then reopen the design view is empty, the code view is normal. I would like to be able to see the page in the design view and cannot. I don't know what to do. I hope someone has an idea for me. Thank you.
I am using DW CS5 and pages are ASP.

When you say "template" are you talking about the .dwt Template file from DW?
If so, you may be using it incorrectly. Once you create the .dwt, all of your new pages need to be created via File > New > Create Page From Template and then saved to your site. If you are using the .dwt file and doing "Save As" to create more pages, you're going to run into all sorts of problems.
Do you have a link we could look at?

  • Very Easy Question: How to view source code of JAR file

    Hi Experts,

You cannot do this by simple repacking/rearchiving of JAR, because it contains special descriptor with fingerprint. In general, JAR is unmodifiable, however, you can create a new one with modified sources.
You can try to import the JAR in some Java project in Eclipse, for example. Then make your changes and use the Eclipse's Export JAR wizard in order to repack the modified source Java files in a new JAR.

I general, yes, the operation is allowed. However, you cannot do this with JAR deployed on some J2EE server or Portal, for example. Because there are references to it.

    Gary wrote:
    > Please let me know if by any chance I can see the content of JAR file in NWDS.
Yes, sure. Use Import from Archive wizard in Eclipse. Or add the JAR in the class path of some Java project and Eclipse will show you the content of it.

  • Syntax coloring in code view not working in CS6

I just got CS6 installed for Windows XP, first time using it, and the HTML syntax is no longer color coded like I was used to in CS5 and earlier.. I assume you would turn this on/off through View > Code View Options > Syntax Coloring, but when I try to select this, nothing happens and the option remains unchecked in the menu.
It seems to be the only thing in the Code View Options menu that I cannot turn on/off, but it's not grayed out or turning up any error messages or anything...
    Any idea what's going on?

I didn't have a previous version of Creative Suite before this, so nothing to clean off. It's a work PC that just got set up with CS6 for the first time - I wasn't able to find that cache file (the instructions are for CS5 and earlier), but since this started happening straight out of the box, I'm not sure the cache would be the problem?
And no, the "Syntax Coloring" option is not greyed out - it's actually black, so looks like it SHOULD be selectable, but I click it and nothing happens, and it remains unchecked. That's the confusing thing.. no obvious hurdles to toggling that option...

  • How do I stop Dreamweaver from replaceing " with È while in code view

Here is my problem (DWCS5 Version):
I open DreamWeaver and all is fine. I only use code view.
As I work I might open .cfm files, or even (it seems) open a browser - and when I return to writing my code, when I type " Dreamweaver types È
    " is typed as È
    ' is typed as è
The only way to stop is is close Dreamweaver and reopen. Then the coding works great for that file until I visit another file I opend or even a browser that was open. It's not every file that I open or page that I visit. I've yet to determine what is happening.
It feels like dreamweaver is somehow changing character sets.
For example, DreamWeaver is currently messed up replacing characters, but it works fine filling out this post.
    Help!

Have you tried clearing the cache file?
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494811
Alot of "just started happeining, weird DW behaviors" can be repaired by doing away with the cache file.
