Need help with turning multiple rows into a single row
Hello.
I've come across a situation that is somewhat beyond my knowledge base. I could use a little help with figuring this out.
My situation:
I am attempting to do some reporting from a JIRA database. What I am doing is getting the dates and times for specific step points of a ticket. This is resulting in many rows per ticket. What I need to do is return one row per ticket with a calculation of time between each step. But one issue is that if a ticket is re-opened, I want to ignore all data beyond the first close date. Also, not all tickets are in a closed state. I am attaching code and a sample list of the results. If I am not quite clear, please ask for information and I will attempt to provide more. The database is 10.2.0.4
select jiraissue.id, pkey, reporter, summary
,changegroup.created change_dt
,dbms_lob.substr(changeitem.newstring,15,1) change_type
,row_number() OVER ( PARTITION BY jiraissue.id ORDER BY changegroup.created ASC ) AS order_row
from jiraissue
,changeitem, changegroup
,(select * from customfieldvalue where customfield = 10591 and stringvalue = 'Support') phaseinfo
where jiraissue.project = 10110
and jiraissue.issuetype = 51
and dbms_lob.substr(changeitem.newstring,15,1) in ('Blocked','Closed','Testing','Open')
and phaseinfo.issue = jiraissue.id
and changeitem.groupid = changegroup.id
and changegroup.issueid = jiraissue.id
order by jiraissue.id,change_dt

I am attaching code and a sample list of the results. If I am not quite clear, please ask for information and I will attempt to provide more. Whenever you have a question, please post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all tables involved, and the results you want from that data.
Simplify the problem as much as possible. For example, if the part you don't know how to do only involves 2 tables, then jsut post a question involving those 2 tables. So you might just post this much data:
CREATE TABLE changegroup
( issueid NUMBER
, created DATE
, id NUMBER
INSERT INTO changegroup (issueid, created, id) VALUES (21191, TO_DATE ('2008-07-16 09:30:38 AM', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'), 10);
INSERT INTO changegroup (issueid, created, id) VALUES (21191, TO_DATE ('2008-07-16 11:37:02 AM', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'), 20);
INSERT INTO changegroup (issueid, created, id) VALUES (21191, TO_DATE ('2010-06-08 09:14:52 AM', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'), 90);
INSERT INTO changegroup (issueid, created, id) VALUES (21191, TO_DATE ('2010-09-02 11:29:37 AM', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'), 10);

INSERT INTO changegroup (issueid, created, id) VALUES (21191, TO_DATE ('2010-09-02 11:29:50 AM', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'), 20);
INSERT INTO changegroup (issueid, created, id) VALUES (21191, TO_DATE ('2010-09-02 11:29:53 AM', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'), 90);
INSERT INTO changegroup (issueid, created, id) VALUES (23234, TO_DATE ('2008-10-03 10:26:21 AM', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'), 10);
INSERT INTO changegroup (issueid, created, id) VALUES (23234, TO_DATE ('2008-11-17 09:39:39 AM', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'), 20);
INSERT INTO changegroup (issueid, created, id) VALUES (23234, TO_DATE ('2011-02-02 06:18:02 AM', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'), 90);
INSERT INTO changegroup (issueid, created, id) VALUES (23977, TO_DATE ('2008-09-29 02:44:54 PM', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'), 10);

INSERT INTO changegroup (issueid, created, id) VALUES (23977, TO_DATE ('2011-02-02 06:15:32 AM', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'), 20);
INSERT INTO changegroup (issueid, created, id) VALUES (23977, TO_DATE ('2011-02-02 06:15:47 AM', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'), 90);
CREATE TABLE changeitem
( groupid NUMBER
, newstring VARCHAR2 (10)
INSERT INTO changeitem (groupid, newstring) VALUES (10, 'Open');
INSERT INTO changeitem (groupid, newstring) VALUES (20, 'Testing');
INSERT INTO changeitem (groupid, newstring) VALUES (30, 'Blocked');
INSERT INTO changeitem (groupid, newstring) VALUES (90, 'Closed');Then post the results you want to get from that data, like this:
ISSUEID HISTORY
21191 Open (0) >> Testing (692) >> Closed
23234 Open (45) >> Testing (807) >> Closed
23977 Open (607) >> Blocked (249) >> Open (0) >> Testing (0) >> ClosedExplain how you get those results from that data. For example:
"The output contains one row per issueid. The HISTORY coloumn shows the different states that the issue went through, in order by created, starting with the earliest one and continuing up until the first 'Closed' state, if there is one. Take the first row, issueid=21191, for example. It started as 'Open' on July 16, 2008, then, on the same day (that is, 0 days later) changed to 'Testing', and then, on June 8, 2010, (692 days later), it became 'Closed'. That same issue opened again later, on September 2, 2010, but I don't want to see any activity after the first 'Closed'."
The database is 10.2.0.4That's very important. Always post your version, like you did.
Here's one way to get those results from that data:
WITH got_order_row AS
SELECT cg.issueid
, LEAD (cg.created) OVER ( PARTITION BY cg.issueid
ORDER BY cg.created
- cg.created AS days_in_stage
, ROW_NUMBER () OVER ( PARTITION BY cg.issueid
ORDER BY cg.created
) AS order_row
, ci.newstring AS change_type
FROM changegroup cg
JOIN changeitem ci ON cg.id = ci.groupid
WHERE ci.newstring IN ( 'Blocked'
, 'Closed'
, 'Testing'
, 'Open'
-- AND ... -- any other filtering goes here
SELECT issueid
, SUBSTR ( SYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH ( change_type || CASE
WHEN CONNECT_BY_ISLEAF = 0
THEN ' ('
|| ROUND (days_in_stage)
|| ')'
END
, ' >> '
, 5
) AS history
FROM got_order_row
WHERE CONNECT_BY_ISLEAF = 1
START WITH order_row = 1
CONNECT BY order_row = PRIOR order_row + 1
AND issueid = PRIOR issueid
AND PRIOR change_type != 'Closed'
ORDER BY issueid
;Combining data from several rows into one big delimited VARCHAR2 column on one row is call String Aggregation .
I hope this answers your question, but I guessed at so many things, I won't be surprised if it doesn't. If that's the case, point out where this is wrong, post what the results should be in those places, and explain how you get those results. Post new data, if necessary. -
Merge multiple columns into single column?
Hi,
I need to execute queries dynamically and return the values. I need to fetch the values of the queries in single column only by concatenating the multiple columns. I cannot use PL/SQL in my scenario.
is there any way to execute a query and the result will be fetched in single column (values of multiple columns needs to be concatenated)?
Thanks,

Comparison of multiple column values with a single column value
I have two separate tables say Tab1 and Tab2
I want to select some datas , which is common to both the tables.
In tab1 , there is a column 'STATE' and it's value is 'A'
In tab2, there are multiple columns for the state, say STATE_A,STATE_B, STATE_C ETC and a row is present with the following details
STATE_A = 1, STATE_B =1 ,STATE_C =0,STATE_D=1
I need to select STATE when STATE_A ='1',
if my STATE='B', this STATE has to be selected since STATE_B =' 1', similraly
if my STATE='D', this STATE has to be selected since STATE_D =' 1',
If my STATE='C', STATE_C should not get selected since it's '0'.
Is it possible to do this in a single SELECT statement, where I have some other checks also or else how can I achieve it?Maybe this will help
Select * from STATE_MAS ;

Can I get multiple sums in a single column based on a "code" I place.
After importing a file of check/debit card activity from my bank, can I 'code' the line items based on tax categories ie Utilities, Medical expenses, Auto expenses, etc. and then get sums for each based on that code I placed in a single column? That would mean multiple sums in a single column based on the code used for each tax related expense. For instance, I would put UT in the column for utilities expenses and MED in the same column if it were a medical expense. I would then want the sum for all items in that column for each item code. Is this possible or do I need to use a different approach to get this information.
My guess is that the SUMIF function may be your friend.
It's well described in the *iWork Formulas and Functions User Guid*e which every user may download from the Help menu.

How to calculate the individual sums of multiple columns in a single query
Hello,
Using Oracle 11gR2 on windows 7 client. I have a question on calculating sum() on multiple columns on different columns and store the results in a view. Unfortunately I could not post the problem here as it keeps on giving error "Sorry, this content is not allowed", without telling where or what it is! So I had to post it in the stack-overflow forum, here is the link: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16529721/how-to-calculate-the-individual-sums-of-multiple-columns-in-a-single-query-ora
Will appreciate any help or suggestion.

ThanksLooks like you want a simple group by.
select

, sum(actual_missing_package)
from test
group by
yr, mnth, region
order by
yr, mnth, region;I wouldn't recommend storing your data for year / month in 2 columns like that unless you have a really good reason. I would store it as a date column and add a check constraint to ensure that the date is always the first of the month, then format it out as you wish to the client.
CREATE TABLE test
year_month date,
Region VARCHAR2(50),
CITY VARCHAR2(50),

Displaying data from multiple columns into a single line graph

CA Forum: WebIntelligence Reporting
Hey,I have an issue with the WEBI reporting.I have a data source that has multiple columns say ( month1, month2, month3, month4,.....month 12, month 13, ....month24) with the sales data for each month.Now say I call the month 1 to month 12 as "current year", and call month 13 - month 24 as "previous year".I want to put a prompt in the report which allows me to select between "current year" and "previous year".Based on the prompt value we get a graph of the sales vs month ....as in if we select "current year", then we get a graph of the sales Vs time( remember that the sales data for each month is in a different column.)and if we select "previous year" then we get a graph of the sales Vs time for previous year..( sales vs time for Month 13, month 14, month 15....month 24).I am not able to pull data from multiple columns into a single object that I can use to populate the graphs.Any help on the same will be appreciated .Hi,

Multiple report fields from single physical column.
Hi Experts,
I have a physical table like below. Multiple records for a single customer id. The no of Address_type may increase in future.
Customer_id Address_Type Address
101 Primary abcdefgh
101 Secondary 234oij3mb4
101 Billing mdmnweoij4
102................etc.
My Requirement on OBIEE is to display report as below.
Customer_ID, Primary_Address, Secondary_Address, Billing_Address.
101 abcdefgh 234oij3mb4 mdmnweoij4
Multiple report fields ( Primary_Address, Secondary_Address, Billing_Address ) are derived from same physical column ADDRESS.
I tried to duplicate the Address column on the report thrice and added conditions like Address_Type = Primary/Secondary/Billing for those three fields respectively.
But only of the field is getting correct data and rest of duplicate columns are null.
Tried FILTER function on OBI Answers, but the function fails saying it should be used only on measures.
Thought the alternative would be to define multiple logical columns at BMM layer. Created multiple alias for same table at physical layer and correspondingly created LTS for each on a single logical table. Defined Fragmentation/Where conditions.
LTS1 - Address_Type = PRIMARY
LTS2 - Address_Type - SECONDARY
LTS3 - Address_Type - BILLING
Created multiple logical columns from each LTS like Primary_Address, Secondary_Address, Billing_Address from LTS1, LTS2, LTS3 respectively.
This time, am getting data for all the fields on the report but getting cartesian result.
Can someone guide me whether my approach is correct or any other alternate best approach to achieve the desired result.
Note: I have the data Address on multiple physical rows for a customer, rather Not in a single row. which is causing me problem.
Thanks...
Ramchand.Hi Srini VEERAVALLI,
I have lot many other fields in the same report coming from other tables.
Does the Pivot table option for above mentioned Address fields affect other columns?
If Yes, Can there be any other alternative? Am thinking of Opaque View at Physical layer to bring all Addresses on a single row.
Thanks...

How to insert from one table to another (multiple columns to single column)
I want to insert data from table1 into table2 and the data looks in 3 columns as below
Table1
RepNm ObjNm DbNm
123 abc def
456 def xyz
789 123 456
and the data in table2 should be display as
Table 2
ObjNm
123
456
789
abc
def
xyz
the dupes should get eliminated and only the distinct values should be inserted into a single column in table2 from multiple columns in table1How do you want to handle nulls? If there is a null in any value of a column, do you want to insert it?
Then,
WITH T
AS (SELECT LEVEL colnum
FROM DUAL
CONNECT BY LEVEL <= 3)
SELECT DECODE (colnum, 1, RepNm, 2, ObjNm, 3, DbNm) as ObjNm
FROM table1, T;if you dont want to insert nulls then,
WITH T
AS (SELECT LEVEL colnum
FROM DUAL
CONNECT BY LEVEL <= 3)
SELECT DECODE (colnum, 1, RepNm, 2, ObjNm, 3, DbNm) AS ObjNm
FROM table1, T
WHERE DECODE (colnum, 1, RepNm, 2, ObjNm, 3, DbNm) = DECODE (colnum, 1, RepNm, 2, ObjNm, 3, DbNm)G. -
Performance of update query for single column vs multiple column
Hi All,
I could not find any answer for this, does it ever matter in terms of performance updating single column versus multiple column in a single update query.
For eg. table consisting of 15 columns, what would be the difference in performance when one column is update in the single query against another update query where 15 columns are updated.
Please do keep in mind my table columns in actually could be around 150+.
Thanks for any information provided.If updated columns aren´t on where clause , then the only impact of 15 columns will be a increase on redo generation, and a possible chainning row.
So since the redo is one of the things that have a large impact, the answer is yes.
The performance will be slower.

NamedQuery problem- single argument compared to multiple columns
Hello,
I'm not sure if this issue is a bug or if I'm misinterpreting the API. I'm trying to execute a text search query against multiple columns in the same table via EJB 3.0, e.g.
select object(o) from Location o where o.city LIKE :searchString OR o.county LIKE :searchString"So, a single text argument is compared to multiple fields- but I keep getting an exception that the number of supplied arguments (one) does not match the number of required arguments (one- even though it's ID is referenced twice). Is there a separate syntax for repeating arguments in EQL (EJB 3.0, JDeveloper 10.1.3)? Is it not supported?
I get around the issue by just specifying a Query at runtime, but I'd prefer --if possible-- to create a NamedQuery instead.
Any help would be appreciated. Take care.Should the EJBQL statement be

Merge statement - update multiple columns from a single sub-select
Is it possible to write in 10gR2, a MERGE statement, with UPDATE for multiple columns from a single sub_select?
like this:
MERGE INTO tableA
using ( select * from temp) tmp
on( tableA. col1 = tmp.col1)
when matched then
update set ( tableA.col5,
tableA.col6,
tableA.col7) = ( select sum(col2), sum(col3), sum(col5)
from tableX
where tableX.col1 = tableA.col1...)Hi,
The USING clause is not a sub-query, so it can't reference columns from tables that are not in it.
Include tableA in the USING clause if you really need to refer to it there. (It's not obvious that you do.)
As always, it helps if you post:
(1) The version of Oracle (and any other relevant software) you're using
(2) A little sample data (just enough to show what the problem is) from all the relevant tables
(3) The results you want from that data (In the case of a DML statement, such as MERGE, this will be the state of the tables when everything is finished.)
(4) Your best attempt so far (formatted)
(5) The full error message (if any), including line number
Executable SQL statements (like "CREATE TABLE AS ..." or "INSERT ..." statements) are best for (2).
If you can present your problem using commonly available tables (for example, tables in scott schema, or views in the data dictionary), then you can omit (2).
Formatted tabular output is okay for (3). -
