Turning off Gestures on touchpad??

On my S10e i can use gestures to make my touchpad do clever things like zoom a webpage - i've not worked these out properly and find them highly annoying!
Is there a way of disabling this feature so it just works as a normal old fashioned touch pad??

Hi,
so you want only standard funktions
the way is,
start ---> run as--> -- type msconfig  ok ---> runs the configuration menue---> autostart --- find on the left Side SynTEnh (SynapticsTouchEnhancement)---untick to disable SynTPEnh ---
after a restart tick the message so that it doesnt nervs you again ...
thats all...

  • How to turn off mouse (or touchpad) scrolling when running vim in an xterm?

Just updated 13" macbook pro (mid-2010) from Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to Yosemite (10.10.1).  Previously, when running vim in an xterm, scrolling with the touchpad did nothing inside vim, it just scrolled the xterm history back so I could see what I had done before executing vim.  Now, the same scrolling action (either with touchpad or with an external mouse with scrollwheel) moves the cursor position inside vim (if I'm in navigate mode).  I want to turn this feature off.  I'm sure some people like it but I do not.  Anyone know whether this is something to be blocked by vim settings, or perhaps something in the xterm settings I need to change?  Vim version is 7.3 (2010 Aug 15), which must be a slightly later version than I had under the original operating system, since I got it July 2010.
I've tried modifying various vim settings, but to no effect.  I haven't found a comprehensive list of such settings to try systematically.

While I do not have Yosemite up and running at the moment, I cannot actually play with Yosemite Terminal.app.  But you should at least look through the various Terminal -> Preferences to see if there is any configuration option that is telling the Terminal how to treat scroll operations.  And try things like changing the "Declare terminal as: ............." setting, as that may affect the Terminfo database entry, which Vim uses to decide on what it does with various keyboard escape keys for input as well as displaying output (not sure if that would affect scrolling input, but it is worth a shot).
Instead of using X11 and xterm, consider giving iTerm a try.  I have been using as my terminal emulator for years, and at work I live in terminal sessions, ssh'ed into various Linux, Solaris, AIX platforms.
    <http://iterm2.com>  A newer version
<http://iterm.sourceforge.net> an older but still viable version (I used this on my Snow Leopard 10.6.8 system)
iTerm will give you Tabbed windows just like Terminal (actually had Tabbed windows years before Terminal.app).  It will allow you to define what a double-click selection thinks is a word.  It has an option to automatically load anything selected into the copy/paste buffer.
NOTE:  I have nothing against X11 and xterm.  I also use X11 (XQuartz) all day as well as terminal sessions, with various Linux, Solaris, AIX X11 displays being sent back to my iMac at work, frequently using gvimdiff.

  • Turn off Gestures

Sorry if this has been covered. I searched but didn't see anything.
I was wondering if there was a way to turn gestures off altogether? I'm constantly accidentally changing the size of fonts in Safari, rotating my canvas in Photoshop CS4, etc. I don't want to get rid of gestures permanently but it'd be nice to be able to turn them on and off when using a program like photoshop.
    Thanks,
    Joanna
    www.saypease.com

If only it were that simple. There isn't anywhere in system preferences to turn gestures off completely.
My problem is most prevalent when working in photoshop, which I do a lot. CS4 has a new function that lets you rotate your canvas on the fly to see your work from different 'angles.' It takes advantage of the rotate gestures. Unfortunately, I am constantly, accidentally rotating and it's gotten very frustrating. I also occasionally have a problem in Safari where I accidentally zoom instead of scroll and blow everything up.
I was hoping there was a plug in, a preference pane or a terminal line i could use to toggle on and off.

  • How to turn off gesture to open current tab in new window.

I have looked in auto:config and searched for gesture. None of the results seem to match my problem so I am starting to wonder if it is a gesture. At any rate often I have a tab open and will be using the trackpad to do some things, scrolling, selecting whatever. I unfortunately happen to not keep total 100% control over where things are going and suddenly my tab is open in a new window. It seems to be caused by some two finger combination on the trackpad but not sure what.

That document on using tabs to organize lots of websites in a single window isn't helpful to me for the following reasons:
    1. I already organize lots of websites in a single window, the problem is that some of these tabs will suddenly be opened in a new window when interacting with them.
    2. The section on opening a tab in a new window does not seem to be what is happening to me. It says:
"To move a tab to its own window, click on the tab and drag it below the tab strip. Or, to move a tab from one Firefox window to another, click on the tab and drag it to the tab strip of another Firefox window. "
The second method is the one I have to use to move a tab that has been mistakenly opened in a new window back to the window it should be in, so I know that works and I know that's not what's happening. The first one doesn't seem to be relevant either as my problem does not happen when I click on the tab and then drag it, rather I am interacting with the page inside the tab. For example trying to scroll, or select some text, and then it opens in a new window. It seems to me whenever it happens I have ended up touching the touchpad with a second finger. Is there some way that it could mistake it as selecting the tab, and then my normal scrolling/text selection behavior actually ends up dragging it below the tab strip? If so the document describes my problem, but it does not describe how to fix it, since I am not doing it on purpose.
IS there any way to disable the drag a tab below the tab strip opens a new window behavior?

  • Elitebook 8570w - Windows 7 - How to turn off light when touchpad disabled

I much prefer to use the styk rather than the touch pad, and I lay my hands on the computer in such a way that I can accidentally trigger the touch pad when it is on.  So with laptops I usually just go to the device manager and disable the touch pad entirely.
However, on my Elitebook 8570w, when I disable the touch pad, this extremely bright orange light comes on.  It's extremely annoying, especially in low light situations, where I often have to work with my laptop.
How can I disable this light while the touchpad is disabled?

  • How do i turn off the STUPID gestures? every time i quickly scroll a large page i get switched to previous sites i've been at, very, very annoying! i hate gestures!

i'm using firefox 4.0 on an amd cpu running suse linux 11.4. i've completely turned off the gestures in suse (one of the first things i do, i can move a mouse very quickly and i like it to be a mouse!), i can't find a plugin or setting to turn these damn things off. the main problem is when i use the scroll wheel to rapidly move up or down a long web page and wind up on another page suddenly, very, very annoying! i really, really HATE gestures! then again i know how to use buttons etc. and i do mouse very quickly and creatively ( i also turn off several other "conveniances" like automatic window resizing, i know how to manage windows.....) thanks, i really, really hate these "features" being on by default, people with certain disabilites are probably also highly annoyed by the lack of choice in some procucts.
you really, really need to provide easy access to more settings, as evidenced by the number of extensions aimed at providing control to users. thanks

You can set all the mousewheel.with*.action prefs to 0 to perform a scroll.
    mousewheel.withnokey.action
    mousewheel.withaltkey.action
    mousewheel.withcontrolkey.action
    mousewheel.withmetakey.action
    mousewheel.withshiftkey.action
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
If necessary then you can also set all the browser.gesture prefs to empty String values.

  • Touchpad not responding. Cannot shutdown since I can't swipe to turn off. It also won't charge. Help!

iPhone 5s Stopped responding right after I finished a call. Touchpad doesn't respond and I cant shut down since I can't swipe to turn off. I updated to latest OS 8.1.3 a few days ago but it worked fine until now. I tried charging but it isn't responding to that either.

Thanks. I forgot to hold them longer. Is this because of the software update?
it still doesn't show that it is charging though. I Hope that fixes itself. Now my IPad is acting up. I think I'll reset that too!

  • Portege R830 - Can't turn off touchpad

Hi, strange issue. But cant turn off the touchpad on a Portege R830 (Windows 7 32bit). I have seen this problem on both of the machines I have. This has never been an issue for the Tecra models I've had, M5, M9, M10, M11, R840 etc.
I have the latest Alps driver installed, from Toshiba.co.uk. I have tried the button on the touchpad, this does not work. The Alps device cannot be disabled from Device Manager. I have tried the Toucpad properties from the System Tray, Advanced Tab, Advanced Settings. This does not have a simple "turn off touchpad" setting. It does have an option to turn off the touchpad when using a USB mouse - however, this also does not work.
Can anyone help with this? The only other option I can think of is the BIOS, but this would not suit my users, who may want to switch it back on again at some point while running Windows.

    Hey,
Yes you can disable the tapping function in mouse settings. Navigate to control panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse > Advanced > Advanced feature setting and uncheck the tapping function.
The user Xardas did post some screenshots in another thread how to do this:
[Tecra A11 - How to change touchpad sensitivity? |http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=59356]
The last screenshot shows the window where you can disable the tapping.

  • How can I turn off touchpad tap click?

I need to turn off the tap click on the touchpad of my dv4.  I turned it off when I first got the laptop a little more than a year ago, but apparently something in a recent upgrade turned it back on.  There is no icon in the task bar to change the properties like there was before.  There is nothing under mouse properties related to the touchpad or tapping.  I don't like the tap click.  It really messes me up when I am typing.  I know I can easily turn the touchpad on and off, but that is not a good solution.

The Touchpad on my HP Mini 210-1015TU is a nuisance when I am typing so I had it disabled.    For some unknown reason it has suddenly been enabled again.   Can anyone please tell me how I can DISABLE THE TOUCHPAD so I can use the normal mouse via the USB port.   Thanks!

  • Can't turn off touchpad on DV6

I have a dv6 6c35dx and after upgrading to Windows 8 the touchpad could not be turned off by double tapping the top left corner( Where the little square is) even after installing the drivers. Help?

    Hi AKenshin,
Sometimes it is more like a double "squish, squish" - a pretty firm double tap motion.  You do not want to smash the TouchPad; it does sometimes take a bit more than a light, casual, "There you are, nice little TouchPad" kind of tap.
You can also opt to have the TouchPad turn itself off when you have an external Mouse connected - very nice
TaskBar > TouchPad Properties >  ClickPad Settings >
    OR
Control Panel > Mouse > ClickPad Settings >
CHECK "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached"
You can opt to have the TouchPad set less sensitive when you type
TouchPad Properties > TouchPad Settings > Smart Sense > Click Settings Wheel > Set desired levels and areas
Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad (Windows 8)
    Dragon Notes:
To get to some of the features in the TouchPad, you need to open the TouchPad Properties from your Taskbar and then click on that feature to activate that menu item.  Once the item is "highlighted", sometimes a "spikey blue wheel" will show up just to the right -- this is the "settings" for that TouchPad feature.  Clicking on the Settings wheel will open the feature settings options so you can set the actual features AND get a bit of help on that feature.
    Good Luck!

  • Cannot turn off touchpad on Qosmio F series

I'm reinstalled windows from backup DVD. Now I can't turn off touchpad after plug-in USB mouse. What I need to do?

All you must do is to use FN+F9 key combination and choose option DISABLED. You can also check Mouse properties. There must be the same option too.
