[TUTORIAL] ADD YOUR OWN KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS TO YOUR JSX SCRIPTS

This is for Windows only; it uses a feature to launch your favorite software via a keyboard shortcut. It’s been here for a while but it just never occurred to me to use it for this purpose.
1.       Create a shortcut on the Desktop that points to your script.
2.       Assign a keyboard shortcut to it. That’s it!!!!
If you don't know how, here’s a step by step
1.       Open the folder where all your scripts live
2.       Right click on any of them and click on “Send to …” -> “Desktop (Create Shortcut)”
3.       (Optional) Rename the shortcut; to help you remember it is a good practice to include the actual key combination
4.       Right click on the shortcut, click on “Properties”
5.       The Shortcut Key says “None”, place the cursor there and hit for example Ctrl+Alt+8
6.       Click on “Apply” then on “Ok”
7.       That’s it, go to Illustrator and hit your key combination.
Notes:
1.       Add the following line to the beginning of all your jsx scripts “#target Illustrator” (without the quotations)
2.       If there are duplicate key combinations, your newly created shortcut will take precedence over any existing Illustrator shortcut used for something else, so…to help you see what key combos are available:
          1.       In Illustrator, go to “Edit” -> “Keyboard Shortcuts…”, then click on “Export text…”
          2.       The file is saved as a text delimited, open it with Excel or similar program to be able to sort
          3.       This is what I get, a sorted list that easily shows what’s available
3.       If you have lost of scripts, your desktop will soon be overcrowded with icons, which many people really hate. An alternative could be to create a shortcut to the folder containing all your scripts and assign a key combination. When you’re in Illustrator and use the key combo the folder will open and you will have to double click on the file to run it. Not ideal….but your desktop will be uncluttered and is still better that going to the menus to run your scripts.
any comments or questions are welcomed

Carlos - it is not a windows security warning, and there is no checkbox. This is coming from extendscript (it has that icon when you alt-tab). Windows doesn't know that this is a script, the OS just launches extendscript with the file as an argument.
The text is:
You are about to run a script in Adobe Illustrator CS5. You should only run scripts from a trusted source. Do you want to run the script?

  • Use your own iOS app on your own iOS device without buying a developer program.

This is no question; it is simply a request that you make it possible for people with the free developer program to use their own iOS apps that they built themselves without having to pay $99 a year.
This is because loads of people want to build small apps for themselves, and can do so easily now that Xcode is free on the AppStore. The main problem with this is that they have to pay to simply do this.
So this is in a way a petition for all you people who are the same; who have written your own iOS apps for your personal use only, apps that shall not be distributed and only serve to show what you can do or help a family game to get Apple to make this small thing possible for you (us).
So please post here if you want the same.
    Thank you.

  • Deleting keyboard shortcuts from your iPhone

Hey, this has probably been brought up before, apologise if that is the case!
    Anyway...
I am a great fan of the keyboard shortcuts feature offered on nearly all Apple devices. The iPhone for example, instead of typing "What's up?" you can make a shortcut so that you only need to type "wup" in order for your phrase to automatically be replaced. I have set up hundreds of these ever since I got my first iPhone many years ago. However recently, my devices (iPhone 6+ and a few Macs) have started syncing my shortcuts with each other, which I think is awesome, apart from some shortcuts that are relevant when typing text messages and less relevant when typing professional documents on my Mac. This is however easy to fix by deleting some shortcuts and modifying them.
    The problem...
I cannot delete nor modify my shortcuts, not on my Macs or on my iPhone. I understand that in order to delete a shortcut you must simply do the following:
On iPhone, go to: Settings > General > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Edit and then do what I desire.
On Mac, go to: System Preferences > Keyboard > Text and then you have the "Replace" and "With" columns where you can modify these shortcuts.
These techniques work for about 10 minutes.
    Let me explain:
A long time ago I added the frivolous shortcut where "No." is replaced with "№", however this gets extremely annoying when my iPhone sometimes take the word "No" as being "No.", (you guessed right) and replaces it with "№". The word "No" is replaced by "№". I tried to simply fix this by going into the shortcuts settings and deleting it, then making a new shortcut where "Numr" is replaced by "№". Now I have about 5 shortcuts for "№".
I figured because my iPhone is synced with my other devices, the shortcut should be automatically deleted across all devices. This is however not the case, instead, my Mac sees that there is a missing shortcut on my iPhone and syncs it, adding the shortcut again because it is still saved on my Mac.
This is gotten way too far and it has become extremely annoying when you need to retype the word "No" 5 times each time you type it (including the writing of this forum post).
    Typical iMessage conversation with me:
    Friend: "Are you free tonight?"
    Me: "№"
    Me: "№*"
    Me: "№****"
    Me: "№ I mean!!**"
Me: "Negative, I am not free tonight"
Any help with fixing this is extremely appreciated!!!
Possible solutions that do not work:
All my devices are running the newest software version as of 21st April 2015, update does not offer solution.
Deleting the shortcut in all my Apple devices at the same time does not work, I have tried that, and deleting them off different devices in different combinations.
Modifying the shortcut does not work, I thought that simply modifying the shortcut would sync the modification, this was not the case, instead the modification was either deleted or made into a new shortcut.
    Thanks in advance.

  • How can I create my own keyboard shortcut

Hi, Can somebody please tell me how to create my own keyboard shortcut

Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts.
Click the item Application Shortcuts in the left pane.
Then click the + button underneath the right pane. Follow the prompts. You can choose to have the shortcut applicable to all applications, or just to a single one.
Note - you can create a shortcut only for an item which is already an existing menu item.
If you want to change an existing shortcut, by selecting the appropriate software in the left pane you can change the keyboard command in the right pane - just click the keyboard shortcut at the right end of the listed shortcut.

  • Add cite to keyboard shortcuts

Hi, I can't for the life of me find out where to add the <cite>text</cite> to the keyboard shortcuts.
    I'm using DW CS4.

In CS6, when I right-click the new snippet and select Edit Keyboard Shortcuts, I just get a javascript error, the same error I get if I try to do create a keyboard shortcut directly from the menu at the top of the screen, Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts. The error is "At line 321 of <path>\Keyboard Shortcuts.js getMenuTree: Argument number 1 is invalid." After that, where the list of standard shortcuts should appear, the list is blank. All the other built-in shortcuts also are blank, and trying to create a new set just creates a blank set that doesn't let you add anything. Deleting Dreamweaver's cache file, the blahblah.dat thing, doesn't fix it.

  • Keyboard Shortcut for Run Last Script?

Anyone know of a keyboard shortcut to run the last script that was run? I am editing an animation and have written a script that writes code based on it, and I need a quick way to run it without the open file dialog.
    Thanks!

    Method 1:
You can assign shortcut keys to the first 20 scripts listed under the File > Scripts menu via the "Adobe After Effects 10.5 Shortcuts" file. Just search for "ExecuteScript" in the shortcuts file to find the section.
    Method 2:
You can use ft_ToolBar which allows you to launch scripts with the click of a button. You can also create a new button and just paste your script code directly into the provided window without having to create a jsx/jsxbin file.

  • Using your own domain name on your Verizon personal website

If you go to the Verizon Site-Builder page and then click FAQ, you read this for #13:
    13.  Can I use my own domain name?   Answer:  If you own a domain name and would like to use it as the main address of your site, you will need to make arrangements with your domain name provider to redirect visitors to your Verizon Online mysite.verizon.net address from your current domain name.
Verizon Online does not currently offer personalized domain name registration, but we are working on providing this option to you in the near future.  Updates will be provided on the Site Builder home page, so check back often.
The above statement has been listed for quite some time.  Does anyone know whether this option is now available?  (There's no updated statement about it on the Site Builder home page, and there is no one to ask!)

CTRL+M does not work and having to press F before defeats the purpose.

  • Keyboard shortcut to stop batch script?

    Hello all,
I've written a javascript designed to process a batch of files.
Is there anyway to assign a keystroke to stop the script arbitrarily (ESC doesn't seem to work) while it is running?
For example, as I was watching the script do its thing on hundreds of files, I noticed that the first dozen or so were not what I wanted.
They didn't "fail" per se, I could just tell that the results weren't good... so I didn't want to sit there while the script processed the other 100 files.
But, the only way I could get the script to stop was to Force Quit Illustrator.

If you were to have run the batch script from the ESTK you could use the stop button there. Otherwise I'm not sure there is a way.

  • Keyboard Shortcut for comments

I have a question and something to share.
Turns out it's pretty easy to add a keyboard shortcut for
adding ColdFusion comments (mostly so that you don't have to click
on the comment dropdown and select the ColdFusion one, that's 2
clicks). You can add a keyboard shortcut to that Insert Comment
command. But by default it inserts HTML comments. So if you want it
to do something different you can modify this file: C:\Program
    Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver
    CS4\configuration\Objects\Text\Comment.js
The bad news is, I can't find a way to add a shortcut to
Remove Comment. Does anyone know how to do that?

    Jon
Not that I know of but you can make your own keyboard shortcuts for anything that is in a menu somewhere:
+System Preferences > Hardware > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts > Application Keyboard Shortcuts > All Applications > click the little plus sign under the window > Application: > Other > browse to Applications/iWork/Pages > Menu Title > Show Comments (type exactly including U&lc) > hit cmd shift c (or whatever you want)+
Since the shortcut works on the literal text, it will not toggle on and off. You will have to have another shortcut for +Hide Comments.+

  • Is there a way to customize keyboard shortcuts in applications?

Some applications allow keyboard shortcuts to be customized, usually in preferences, but I'm wondering if there's a way to customize keyboard shortcuts in apps that don't have this feature built in.

from Apple's OS X Help Menu:
    Create keyboard shortcuts for apps
Assign your own keyboard shortcuts to menu commands in any OS X app, including Finder. This might be useful if a global shortcut, which works the same with most apps, conflicts with a specific app shortcut. In this case, you could assign a different key combination.
You can only create keyboard shortcuts for existing menu commands. You  cannot create keyboard shortcuts for general purpose tasks such as opening an app.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Keyboard.
    Open Keyboard preferences for me
Click Shortcuts, select App Shortcuts, then click Add (+).
Click the Application pop-up menu, then choose an app. If you want to set the same key combination for a menu command that appears in many apps, choose All Applications.
If the app you want to select doesn’t appear in the list, choose Other, then locate it using the Open dialog. Some apps may not allow you to set keyboard shortcuts.
Type the menu command for which you want to set a keyboard shortcut in the Menu Title field.
You must type the command exactly as it appears in the Application menu, including ellipses and any other punctuation. To type an ellipsis, use three periods without spaces.
Click in the Keyboard Shortcut field, press the key combination that you want to assign to the menu command, then click Add (+).
You can’t use each type of key (for example, a letter key) more than once in a key combination.
Quit and restart any apps you’re using for the new keyboard shortcut to take effect.
If you assign a keyboard shortcut that already exists for another command or another app, your new shortcut won’t work. Find the menu command that’s using it, then reassign the keyboard shortcut for that item.
To remove a customized shortcut, click Delete (–).

  • Keyboard shortcuts vs icons

Although having worked with Adobe Pagemaker for many if the years it was around and viable-I was delighted when they introduced a quasi windows type toolbar.    There are still certain keystroke shortcuts that come easy to me having worked with Windows based Corel Draw and all the standards for many years.

Adobe 3-finger type shortcuts are not my favorite.
So the question is:  Is there a CS4 (particularly for InD) that gives me icons for commands such as SAVE, SAVE AS, PRINT-?ok Command S and P are no big deal nor are the standards for Copy, paste etc-but if there is a ToolBar or command icons that I have not yet found can someone advise?    Also is there a way to program my mouse so when a misspelled word shows up underlined a left mouse click will bring up a suggestion list.  When I rt click I get: Insert Link, Insert image, Alignment, Insert Tablet.

You can customize existing, and define your own keyboard shortcuts under Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.
InDesign's Quick Apply feature (Edit > Quick Apply) opens a typing-sensitive shortcut list, so you can type a bit of a command name and press Enter or arrow a bit and then press Enter, to execute the command. See: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/503506

  • Flash CS5: Is there a keyboard shortcut to move to the next keyframe?

I know there are keyboard shortcuts to move to the next and previous frames -- "." and "," but they're not really what I'm referring to. Also, these keys don't necessarily move to the next and previous frames, rather it just seems to move the red playhead instead of the blue highlighted box (which represents the current frame). This is something I'm also confused about with this keyboard shortcut.
I would like to know though, if there is a keyboard shortcut to move to the next keyframe (each frame that begins with a dot). Thanks for your help.

While I am not quite sure what you mean with
"each frame that begins with a dot"
you can use jsfl to program your own macros/shortcuts

  • How to set Keyboard shortcuts for Flash Pro CS6?

I have started to use Flash Pro CS6, but my keyboard shortcuts such as F6 to insert a new Keyframe didn't work..I soon found that you could create your own Keyboard Shortcut list within the Flash application, and I am trying to enter F6 for a new Keyframe, but it only lets me enter one letter/number at a time and deletes the other one. I have made sure that F6 isn't in use. It now isn't, any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

if no shortcut works, try resetting your flash pro preferences:
Hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) or Shift+Command+Option (Mac) when starting flash pro.
