  • Problems with Tutorials for After Effects CS5

    I just recently downloaded After Effects CS5. I got the whole creative suite from being an IU student. I was watching the video tutorials for After Effects and when discussing importing files they talk about exercise files. I've looked all over and I can't find these files. Does anyone know how I can get them or where they're located? I'm running windows 7.

    Mylenium may be right about which assets the tutorials were referring to, but I have no idea what tutorials you're talking about. We can't know what exercise files you're referring to if you don't telling us what tutorials you're talking about. There are many thousands of tutorials about After Effects, on dozens or hundreds of websites.
    The best people to ask about the location of exercise files are the people who made the specific tutorials.
    Keep in mind that a lot of tutorial makers (like Lynda.com) put some of heir tutorials online for free, and they sell subscriptions to the rest. Part of the subscription benefit is that you get access to the exercise files.

  • Wish list for Flash Tutorials

    Hi,
    Going through the tutorial videos, sometimes I have to call a friend to find out what the word I can't grasp is.  Example, on one of the tutorials, the lady says "in the authoring environment", but I could not hear the word "authoring" properly.  My neighbor friend thought she was saying "operating environment".  But after searching the help pages for "Flash environment", "authoring" came up and was able to finally guess the word I was not able to distinguish.
    This happens to me frequently.  My simple wish is for those videos to include caption text.  Hey, they do it for most TV programs nowadays, why not tutorials.  After all, tutorials are so much more important to be understood.
    Just a thought ...
    Regards,
    Ronald

    Oh well, if they prefer to hide ... they'll never know what
    customers want.
    BTW, I have two other [major] problems with the tutorials.
    1. When I bring them into full screen they eventually freeze.  I have to scale them back into normal size video.
    2.  After about an hour away from the PC, the pending tutorial starts to play on its own.  Last night while I was sleeping, my PC started to play the last tutorial on its own.  It just happened now.  While having dinner, the current tutorial started to play again, as if it had a mind of its own.
    Or ... is there a problem with my flash player installation??
    Regards,
    Ron

  • Best tutorial for after effect in net

    hi
    i read a thread in FAQ about how to learn after effect but i want your experience.in the internet there are many tutorials for after effect but can someone tell me where can i download or buy the best and complete after effect tutorial from begining to really professional?

    Once you have a handle on the basics it is important to focus on one area at a time. Compositing, motion graphics, Visual Effects all require completely different skill sets. When you figure out what you want to concentrate on then we can give you a better idea of how to start. If you want a complete course in AE I'd suggest Total Training or Lynda.com Both offer excellent tutorials that take off right after Adobe TV leaves off.

  • Can't find the link to amazing BEGINNERS tutorial for After Effects 5.5

    Someone here gave me a link to a set of tutorials on After Effects 5.5, specifically the Warp Stabilizer. Now I cannot locate it. My bad.
    I've watched about three hours of videos today and none are useful because everything in the videos is always opened up in AE and completely ready.
    When I open a clip, I have none of the options available to me, so I need to know how people in those tutorials are getting things set up.
    This is what I see.
    http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/8860/aftereffectwindow.jpg
    I need to be able to get the point where I can actually use Warp Stabilizer.
    Thanks

    Basic drill:
    - select the MOV file in the project
    - drag it onto the third icon from the left of the same panel
    - *wham* Magic, a comp appears!
    - right-click in comp window and choose "Stabilize Motion" from menu
    - awesome Warp Stabilizer kicks in
    - choose text tool
    - type text on top of background layer
    - choose "Composition --> Make Movie"
    - hit "Render" button
    Anything more would really require you to read the help...

  • Run a script by clicking on a button panel

    Hi,
    i am very new to scripting in after affects and in general.
    Several month ago i write severals little scripts to speeds up my workflow. I launch them via the "Launch Pad" script Panel.
    Now, i would like to put my scripts in my own panel but i'm missing the properties to link the "script part" and the "panel part".
    For the panel i have (just one button for the moment):
    win=new Window("window","new project",[0,0,500,500],{resizeable:true,});
    but_1=win.add("button",[33,16,103,36],"Sharpen3Way");
    win.center();
    win.show();
    and  my previous script that work independently.
    myComp = app.project.activeItem;
    // Selectionne la composition active
    app.beginUndoGroup("Sharpen 3 Way");
    // Start Undo Group
    mySolid01 = myComp.layers.addSolid([100,100,100], "Sharpen", myComp.width, myComp.height,1);   // Ajoute un layer Solid
    mySolid01.adjustmentLayer = true;
    // Transforme le Solid en Adjustement Layer
    mySolid01.label = 5;
    // Attribue la couleur d'un Adjustement Layer
    mySolid01.opacity.setValue(40);
    //  Change l'opacité du Layer
    myEffect = mySolid01.property("Effects").addProperty("Unsharp Mask").name = "Unsharp Mask Large";
    // Ajoute un effet  sur ce calque
    myEffect = mySolid01.Effects.property("Unsharp Mask Large")(1).setValue(10);
    myEffect = mySolid01.Effects.property("Unsharp Mask Large")(2).setValue(40);
    myEffect = mySolid01.property("Effects").addProperty("Unsharp Mask").name = "Unsharp Mask Medium";
    // Ajoute un effet  sur ce calque
    myEffect = mySolid01.Effects.property("Unsharp Mask Medium")(1).setValue(65);
    myEffect = mySolid01.Effects.property("Unsharp Mask Medium")(2).setValue(1);
    myEffect = mySolid01.property("Effects").addProperty("Unsharp Mask").name = "Unsharp Mask Fine";
    // Ajoute un effet  sur ce calque
    myEffect = mySolid01.Effects.property("Unsharp Mask Fine")(1).setValue(95);
    myEffect = mySolid01.Effects.property("Unsharp Mask Fine")(2).setValue(0.5);
    app.endUndoGroup();
    // End Undo Group
    How do i make the relation to run the script when i click on the but_1 ("Sharpen3Way")
    thanks you.

    Hi,
    if you don't have that many scripts and they are short like this, you can make them into functions, and on click events the function is called.
    A bit off topic but i think important, (1) avoid windows of type window, palettes are better, (2) you should use the keyword "var" when declaring new variables,
    (3) to make it dockable have a look at David Torno's tutorials ([Tutorial] After Effects ExtendScript Script Writing).
    Edit : And also (4) You should use matchNames (or index) to refer to properties, not english name. If you hand this script to someone who does not have AE i english, it will probably not work
    For instance myEffect should be instead: myEffect = mySolid01.property("ADBE Effect Parade").addProperty("ADBE Unsharp Mask2");
    Xavier.
    (function(){
        var win, but_1, but_2;
        win = new Window("palette","new project",[0,0,500,500],{resizeable:true,});
        but_1=win.add("button",[33,16,103,36],"Sharpen3Ways");
        but_2=win.add("button",[33+100,16,103+100,36],"Sharpen0Way");
        but_1.onClick = sharpen3Ways;
        but_2.onClick = sharpen0Way;
        win.center();
        win.show();
        function sharpen3Ways(){
            var myComp, mySolid, myEffect;
            // Selectionne la composition active
            myComp = app.project.activeItem;
            if (myComp instanceof CompItem){
                app.beginUndoGroup("Sharpen 3 Way");                  // Start Undo Group
                // Ajoute un layer Solid
                mySolid01 = myComp.layers.addSolid([100,100,100], "Sharpen", myComp.width, myComp.height,1);

  • Color correction, muzzle flares and smoke questions

    A couple of days ago I directed an action sequence called 'Silent takedown' using Premiere CS5 and After Effects. The goal was to do a very fast paced editing style but still within the realm of 'classic' action films from '90 like Face/Off and Mission Impossible 2. I've got some question regarding visual effects done in After effects. Tell me if you thought they were good or bad. Also the color correction was done in AE and PP. Does the overall movie look good?
    Here's a full link again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O62_hYOmlaY
    Thanks for watchin'

    Well, aside from it being quite disturbing to have a team of 14 year olds turning everyone to blood soup it's got some great camera work.
    Your first mistake might have been thinking there's anything worth copying in mission impossible 2.  Sorry, had to be said.
    Todd's right.  The clouds of blood is comical.  Maybe tone that down?  Right now it just looks like a string of video copilot tutorials one after another.  You need to hide effects, and make them feel seamless.
    Ask yourselves what are you trying to showcase.  If it's post production, you have to tweak those effects and make them look classy.  There are shots where bullet holes are appearing in glass and there's little breakage, and no reaction from the actors.  You can't just glue in effects.  If the actors don't react, you can't use the shot, or it should be changed so you don't notice.  Add a shake etc.
    If it's editing, then that has to be solid too.
    You've got time shifting all over the place without it being stylistic.  For example, the guys who walk up off the top are shown in a wide shot that you re-use for the security cam.  They enter, put their masks on, walks softly up to the guards and take them out, but then we are inside and the scarface guy is watching action that happened minutes ago on the monitor.  If you're going to jump around in time, you need to find a stylistic way to do that.  Why not bring the scarface guy's scenes into the lead up, show the monitor, (drop that long shot at the top) to introduce the guys sneaking up.  This introduced tension (will scarface notice???) gives you an idea of who the guards are watching out for and drops that opening super wide of the two kids going up against the wall.  That shot doesn't work because when you show them super-wide, you get a feeling for how exposed they are and what a terrible job they're doing of "sneaking" up.  But it works as security cam footage...
    Another example is when you have one of your agents say "good morning gentlemen.  He says something strange to men who are in masks and they give him enough time to put a gun to his head and pull the trigger in spite of the face that they're holding their own guns.  Then you have the camera exposure flash cuts to the other agent sneaking up...
    If you want to make this effect work, you need to use editing to explain why the second guard didn't reflexively shoot the first agent.  have the agent say, "good morning gentleman" and start the action of raising the gun.  Then flash cut to the other agent sneaking up, then back the the first agent shooting, then back to the second guard being shot.  Then all of a sudden you have a frenetic action scene.  Right now the pacing feels slow and unrealistic.
    The effects go off the rails a bit at the end.  The muzzle flashes don't aim in the right direction, and the particle smoke becomes very obviously added in post.  One shot in particular is a dude walking through a black smoke cloud from behind a van.  Loose that smoke in the second to jump cuts.  And if oyu're going to have a smoky enclosed space. you have to add atmosphere in other shots.
    If you're not going to use practical effects for the gunshots, you need to cut away. Having a guy explode with particles and stock footage will always be "funny" without having some squibs on set.  I know it makes it harder and more complicated, but you have to have the whole package, or it'll always just look like kids messing around and...
    ... oop, my render is done.

  • How do i get a refund from the apple store?

    how do i get a refund from the apple store. I hate the Final Cut Pro. I tried to contact costumer service and all it does is send me in circles

    You need to let go of everything you ever knew about using editing software and look at few tutorials. After years of using Final Cut Express, I looked at FCPX and didn't understand it at all, but a few months later I finally decided to give it a second try knowing that it is an entirely different animal, and that I would have to start from scratch. I bought it, read a few tutorials, explored the menus, panes, functions, read this forum extensively, then tackled my first project. It took some diligence and patience, but I got it and I will never look back. My experience is that FCPX is far better than the previous Final Cut.

  • Creating a title

    Does anyone know of any quick and easy-to-understand tutorials for After Effect CS4 that can help me create a title introduction for my videos?
    I want an entertaining introduction with nice animations. I'm new to AE, so the tutorial would have to be "dumbed down."
    I don't need anything professional.
    Thank you!

    There are lots of tutorials about text animation. This page lists several that are good: "Examples and resources for text animation"
    If you have a more specific sense of what you want to do, then ask or do a search using the After Effects Community Help search. For example here's a search for graffiti tutorials that pulls up a great tutorial on the Video Copilot website.
    If you're just getting started with After Effects, then I recommend reading this: "Getting started with After Effects"

  • Applying Warp Stabilizer transitions?

    I have some experience with warp stabilizer in After Effects.
    After having watched the Warp Stabilizer tutorials for After Effects (thank you to community for links)
    After Effects Help | Tracking and stabilizing motion
    REMOVING TIMELAPSE CAMERA SHAKE: ADOBE PREMIERE TUTORIAL - YouTube
    and having played with them in Premier Pro, I find it does a great job of stabilizing the time lapse footage.  However, I still notice a slight jerk during the transition from one daily video to the next because each video/day is stabilized independently of the next.  The video does not move much from one day to the next so this would only be a few pixels, but it is still noticeable.  Is there a way to create a "stabilizing transition" from one day to the next so that in the last 2-3 seconds of the video, the warp stabilizer shifts the image to align the last frame of day one with the first frame of day two?  Can I have to trick Premier Pro into doing this by placing the first picture of the second day into the folder of pictures from the first day or is this more painful than necessary?  Is there a way to drag and drop a Warp Stabilizer effect across multiple videos in the timeline at once so that the cropping and rotating is done while considering all of the video files?  I realize this could result in significantly more cropping than if each video was stabilized individually..
    I would prefer to not have to place all of the images in one folder as I would have to rename them for the Import Sequence function to work properly and because there are about 5 months worth of daily folders.
    Schwizer

    There is no KBSC for adding an effect to a clip.
    If you want to add the warp stabilizer (or any effect) to all clips in the timeline: select all the clips and double click on the effect.

  • Jdeveloper toolbox -  links fail with "Errors compiling:C:\jdevhome\jdev\myclasses\.jsps\\_OA.java"

    Hi,
    I'm running 12.1.3 in virtualbox and the OAF toolbox tutorials work after logging onto EBS.
    After installing jdeveloper (on windows 8) and doing the documented setup, even the "Hello World" test fails when run in jdeveloper.
    I've double checked the setup and that the jdeveloper patch version is right (p9879989_R12_GENERIC)

    I guess some windows install/config is incorrect,but don't know what.  Any ideas?

  • Batman sign effect please help

    Ok in this tutorial at 1:50 there is a very cool way that the words reveal them selves with fire inside of the batman logo. It would be fantastic if someone could tell how to do that effect.....
    Some one please help me Maybe explain to me how it is done or just point me to a tutorial....

    When you want to replicate an effect start by breaking down the shot into layers. I see a background, a Batman shape acting as a mask for the internal text, fire, smoke, fire extending outside the mask, glow from the fire illuminating the background and the Batman shape.  Not counting the text at the bottom that's eight or nine layers. The shape and background are fairly easy. The text is easy, and so is masking the text with the shape. The hard part Is the fire and smoke. Particle systems and fractal noise can both be used to simulate fire. You would use a copy of the text layer as a path for a particle emitter or a mask for fractal noise. Colorama could be used to add color to the fire. Duplicate layers of fire that are blurred and set to add or screen blend mode would give you the glow effect. Some animated masks could reveal the burning text.
    There is no simple single plug in solution to this shot. It has to be a combination of layers and blend modes. Google should point you to some burning text or text on fire tutorials for After Effects. You are probably not going to find a tutorial that will give you exactly this look, but if you carefully search and don't just take the first tutorial you find, you can probably figure it out.
    Just so you'll know, if I were starting to create that effect for a client I would probably give them an estimate of a day and a half.
