Tweening a movie clip to scroll?

Apparently I can't make a post on the forums if I've pasted in text. If I write it in by hand, it works fine, but if I paste in text, it doesn't recognize that there's actually anything inside the body of this posting window.

For some reason the forums doesn't think this post belongs to me, so I cannot edit or delete it. Could one of the Admins please do so?
Thank you.

  • Unable to expand movie clip inside of scroll

    I inherited a .fla file with a scrolling thumbnail image
    movie clip that moves horizontally inside of a "scroll" behind a
    mask, with the use of right and left buttons. < > The
    thumbnail movie clip is much wider than the movie's dimensions. I
    think it was made in Flash 5. I added about 30 new thumbnails to
    the movie clip for my client, but now it won't expand anymore.
    Before, all I had to do was put the thumbnail into the edge of the
    clip and it would expand to include it. I can get the invisible
    right and left "scroll" movie clips to scroll even beyond the movie
    clip by adjusting the numbers in the ActionScript for those two
    instances. I am not a "programmer type" so this probably is hard to
    understand. If I try to change the width of the movie clip in the
    properties box it comes up with an "invalid size and position"
    error. Actually I think all it would do is stretch-distort the clip
    anyway, which is not what I want. (if I put in a lesser number it
    squishes the clip). I just want more space right and left.
    Any ideas?

    How do I attach a file to this? All I see is a button to
    attach code. Sorry, I've rarely use this forum.

  • Fade a move clip as it leaves the scene

    Hi I’m not sure if this is possible so if someone could
    let me know and if it is give me some pointers i would be extremely
    grateful.
    Basically i have a move clip that scrolls of either side of
    the scene, one side is ok but the other doesn't look very good
    because of the hard line that the images finish on in the middle of
    the web page. I want to fade out the move clip starting 30px or so
    from the end of the scene to make it look nicer. The movie clip
    will always be inside the scene therefore only the part that is
    scrolled off needs to be faded. Hope that’s clear, i can fade
    a move clip out but don't know how to or if its possible to fade
    part of one starting at a specific x point.
    Any ideas appreciated
    Cheers

    If I understand correctly then u can use a gradient to do
    this.
    Create a shape and select it.
    In the colormixer change solid into linear.
    then select one of the buckets (make sure there both the same
    color)
    and set the alpha to 0.

  • Help with smooth scrolling (masked movie clip)

    Ok, I really need help here, and I'll be very grateful for
    help before Monday.
    Someone has made a movie with a different set of text on each
    frame, the text goes out of the viewable area.
    I have been asked to make these frames appear in a pop-up on
    another flash and be scrollable.
    i thought this would be easy...just cut and paste them into a
    movie clip, then using a mask to hide the rest of the text.
    However, it is going painstakingly slow.
    Seems to be a performance issue, but it might be my code.
    Any help with the code, or optimisation elsewhere would be
    helpfully.
    Heres a simplified version of the flash;
    www.darkflame.co.uk/flashwork/Flash_popuptest.fla
    Code for the scrolling;
    _global.MoveUp = function(text) {
    _root.ITproduct.IT_productlist._y =
    _root.ITproduct.IT_productlist._y+6;
    updateAfterEvent();
    //trace('press');
    Called and stopped by;
    on (press){
    //this._parent.IT_productlist._y =
    this._parent.IT_productlist._y +10;
    //_global.scrollon = "yes";
    clearInterval(IntervalID);
    IntervalID = setInterval(MoveUp,100);
    updateAfterEvent()
    //updateAfterEvent();
    //MoveUp();
    //scroll on
    on (release) {
    //this._parent.IT_productlist._y =
    this._parent.IT_productlist._y +10;
    clearInterval(IntervalID);
    updateAfterEvent();
    //scroll off
    which is linked to a button.
    I dont know if this is a actionscript problem, or the way the
    page is made, or both.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Thomas Wrobel

    you have extraneous graphics on-stage that are slowing the
    scrolling (and even causing problems in the authoring environment).
    here's your file with those graphics removed:

  • Purpose of motion tweens + movie clip symbols

    Hello. I've been going over several tutorials and whatnot and I'm confused on the point of movie clip symbols and motion tweens. To me using the other tweens and symbols are "easier". Can someone explain to me why they're so beneficial to have been added to CS4/CS5? Except I understand that movie clip symbols can be adjusted using the 3D tools but is that the only difference?
    Thanks so much

    it's easier to fine-tune different movieclip property tweens using the motion editor than it is to control those tweens using the classic tween.  that said, for most tweens, the classic tween works well and it's easier to implement.

  • Question about scrolling and Movie Clips Loaded from the Library

    I hope I am posting this in the right forum.
    Ok, I'm using actionscript 2.0, and I am trying to make a scrolling image gallery. I have a movie clip with three layers. the first contains a movie clip used as a scroll bar. The second is a mask used to hide the overflow content, and the third contains movie clip thumbnails. when I click one of the thumbnails, it loads a symbol containing a larger version of the picture over top of the thumbnails on the same layer. My problem is, the large image is added at the very top of the movie clip, even when it is scrolled out of sight. I want it to appear in sight, so the user doesn't have to scroll all the way back up to the top to see it. This is annoying and confusing. Is there a way to do this?
    Here is the code I used to create the scroll effect (there is actually a whole lot more to the code but it is very long, so I am not adding it now. I will if it is needed though)
    (Oh, and there is no text involved in this. I just got this code off a tutorial and I haven't changed the variable names yet)
        var scrollUpper:Number = 58;
        var scrollLower:Number = 309;
        var textLower:Number = 60;
        var textUpper:Number = -179;
        var scrollRange:Number = scrollLower - scrollUpper;
        var textRange:Number = textLower - textUpper;
        var startY:Number = imagesHolder_mc.thumbs_mc._y;
        function scroll(){
           var moved:Number = imagesHolder_mc.scroller_mc._y - scrollUpper;
           var pctMoved:Number = moved/scrollRange;
           var textMove:Number = pctMoved*textRange;
           imagesHolder_mc.thumbs_mc._y = textLower - textMove;
        imagesHolder_mc.scroller_mc.onPress = function(){
           this.startDrag(false,this._x,scrollUpper,this._x,scrollLower);
           this.onMouseMove = scroll;
        imagesHolder_mc.scroller_mc.onRelease = scroller_mc.onReleaseOutside = function(){
           this.stopDrag();
           this.onMouseMove = null}

    Thanks for your reply. I'll try to explain it better. I have a long, vertically scrolling movie clip. This movie clip contains lots of thumbnails. When I click a thumbnail, the full sized image is loaded from the library and displayed within the same movie clip. when I click the full size movie clip, it disappears again, and I can click another thumbnail to display another full size image. So I'm not just adding more and more stuff to the gallery if that's what you were thinking. I'm just clicking thumbnails to display the full size image so I can look at it, closing it, and moving on.
    But the full sized image is fixed at the very top of the scrolling movie clip, so if I click a thumbnail at the very bottom, I have to scroll all the way back up to the top to see the full size image. I just want the full size image to appear on screen no matter how far down I have scrolled to click a thumbnail.
    I made my basic gallery useing this tutorial:
    http://flashexplained.com/actionscript/making-the-ultimate-dynamic-image-gallery-in-flash- 8/
    if you want to take a look at that, to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
    Now I'm just trying to add some scrolling functionality, which wasn't included, but I don't really understand actionscript well enough to do this easily on my own.
    Sorry for the long reply. I hope this is clearer.

  • Is it possible to stop a tween in a movie clip

    Hello Kglad and other forum expert!
    I have a movie clip (really just an image converted to a
    movie clip).
    I a "zoom" effect set on two layers - on for the zoom mask,
    and the other for the base image.
    I just use the modify/transform in some keyframes to have the
    image motion tween from normal size to a larger size.
    The tween (aka zoom) is shown through the mask layer.
    I did not create the motion tween using actionscript, but in
    the timeline between 2 keyframes.
    Is there a way I can stop the tween when the movie plays ( by
    clicking a "pause" button).
    Thanks for a great info resource,
    eholz1

    you can use the stop() method of movieclips to stop the
    timeline of the tweening movieclip. you can use the play() method
    to continue to tweening.

  • Scrolling Movie Clip

    Hello everyone...
    I am trying to figure out why my thumbnail movie clip will
    not scroll when clicked. I thought I had the action script right
    but it appears that I have not. Could anyone help me troubleshoot
    this? If you could give me your email addy, I will send the .FLA

    Thanks very much

    You should be able to post the actionscript pertaining to
    your problem. If not, upload it to many of the free file hosting
    websites and then post the link to the fla.

  • Deadline: 22 May 08H00 Help ME Please Scrolling a movie clip from the Centre

    Hi
    It has been a while since I have been here I am in need for
    some serious help, I am so frustrated.
    What I want to do is pretty simple, I am building a DJ
    website and the navigation is a pitch controller, similar to what
    they have on a mixing board anyway, when you drag the pitch
    controller I need the movie clip symbol to scroll either up and
    down, so technically the pitch controller will have to start from
    the center, but I have no idea what I am doing.
    I have been going through tutorials for 15 hours but all they
    show you is how to create a normal scroller that starts at the top
    and srolls down. I am in desprite need as I have a deadline to meet
    for tomorrow morning. HELP

    ok this is the code I got from a tutorial that i was woking

  • How to play a movie clip with a tween animation

    I created a movie clip symbol with a tween animation and created an instance of it on the main stage. The animation is in the movie clip timeline, not on the main timeline. I cannot get the mc to play using mc.play() or mc.gotoAndPlay.  What am I missing??

    Hi Ned, thanks for the response;
    1.Yes I named the instance.
    2.I  don't beleive so. I started from the library creating a new symbol, added the graphics, added the key frames, then created the tween. Then I dragged the symbol onto the main stage and named the instance. So I don't think there is a movie clip inside an mc.
    Here is the main timline:
    Here is the mc timeline:
    Here is what I'm trying to do:
    stop();
    blk1._visible = false;
    blk2._visible = false;
    blk3._visible = false;
    ppk1._visible = false;
    ppk2._visible = false;
    ppk3._visible = false;
    storeCartons = new Array();
    storeCartons = [blk1, blk2, blk3, ppk1, ppk2, ppk3];
    startButton.onRelease = function() {
        myNumber = Math.floor(Math.random()*storeCartons.length);
        trace("myNumber "+myNumber);
        activeCarton = storeCartons[myNumber];

    Hi Ldavinci, I have noticed your posts on that particular
    site before. Just chiming in here... don't be afraid of Flash Help
    menu. There's a wealth of information there and I've found it much
    faster than waiting for a response from the forum. Then if it still
    doesn't make sense, at least you have a basic idea of specifics to
    ask.
    If you search for mouse wheel, you'll see an example under
    the Actionscript 2.0 Language Reference on this topic. That said,
    here's the example:

  • Do I need to stop a tweened movie clip if it's not visible?

    Hi,
    I'm a beginner.
    I have a tweened movie clip (it has a changing alpha state that makes it fade up from invisible). I hide this movie clip when the movie starts (with "myMovieClip__MC.visible = false" at the top of the frame script. My question is this: Is this movie clip still tweening while it's hidden (and using processor resources)? IOW: should I hide it AND stop it at the movie start...or is that unnecessary because when it's hidden it's stopped?
    Thanks

    it's still playing and using some resources even if not visible and not on the stage or in the display list, but it may not be using that many resources.

  • Having some problems getting my movie clip to tween..

    Hey guys im animating this banner right now I'm going to have the van come from the far road and come up the closer hill..
    I took the van made a movie-clip of it clicked into the movie clip added the rest of the layers to the van like the wheels. Then I made  the wheels a movie clip went into those and animated them to rotate but  when i go back to the main van movie clip to tween it to move left to  right it just doesn't work? I can't explain why..
    You can download my .fla file here: http://download156.mediafire.com/6qc84i6u7pag/sebfbqkezzemq82/Final+Banner+Flash.fla
    if you can figure out whats wrong i moved the van animation to the front so u can find it easy.. I don't understand :S

    The new motion model will keyframe for you. You create one tweened instance, and then make changes along the tween span. For example, move your playhead to frame 24 in that Fla and drag the van. The motion is automatically inserted.
    You will be able to delete that second tween span (the one on frame 25), and drag your existing tween span so it's longer (mouse over the end of the span until you see the double-ended arrow, and drag to the right).
    For the differences between old motion and new motion, see: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/motion_migration_guide.html

  • How can i let a move clip complete his motion tween movement after dragging and dropping it

    hi how can i let a move clip complete his motion tween movement after dragging and dropping it
    i am using this code and there is a motion tween applies to the movie clip r_mc
    r_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,fun); r_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,fun2); function fun(event:MouseEvent):void { stop(); r_mc.startDrag();
    function fun2(event:MouseEvent):void {
    play(); r_mc.stopDrag();

    i have a simple .fla file wich contains MC that has
    a motion tween(its moving from the left to the right of the stage)
    this motion tween covers the whole time line (  there is only 50 frames in the time line)
    i mean in the frame 1 the MC appears in the left of the stage
    and in the frame 50 the MC appears in the right of the stage and there is a motion tween between them
    every thing till now working well
    i want to make that MC dragabble
    so when i drag the MC i will use stop()
    and when i drop it i will use play()
    but the problem is that the mc doesnt move and complete
    his motion tween movement when i drop it
    for example the MC will be in the middle of the stage in frame 25
    in this frame (25) i am draging the MC ,stoping the timeline,dropping the MC and resum playing the timeline again
    but the MC freezes in the middle of the stage and doesnt go to the right of the stageo until the flash loops and start from the frame 1 again
    here is the example wich i am worikng on

    thank u very much and sorry for my bad English

  • How do you horizontal scroll a movie clip?

    Can anyone suggest any resources for horizontal (left to right) scrolling a movieClip? I want to be able to scroll through a movie clip that has pictures in it. I can't find any good ones that explain the code. FYI, I do not want the user to use a scroll bar to scroll through. They should be able to touch the screen (on the movieClip) and scroll left or right. I looked at the ThrowPops plugin example on Greensock's website but the code is not explained very well.  So I need a basic description of how to scroll a movie clip.
