Twice in nine months... I must be unlu

Well, I had my Zen Micro sent in in September due to the fact that it locked up. Once again... more troubles ever since I bought it last May.
First off, I'm not a heavy user, I use it at most 4 day a week, an hour at most a day. Tonight I clicked on my playlist and everything just froze and it began doing a beeping sequence from a higher note to a lower note... which I found to be a amusing, but that soon went away as I realized my Micro broke, again. I've tried recovery mode, I've tried taking out the battery and turning it back on, but all it does is this annoying beeping sequence. And my warranty is way past due, and I'm not sure if I want to pay the $40 to get it fixed. Any suggestions as to what I should do, or if anyone has a solution to the problem?
I might just have to go get an....*shudders* Ipod.....

Hi dizzleavid,
Me too, except THREE in nine months. Sigh. Having said that, the second unit was replaces quite quickly (but a malfucntioning unit was sent-my 3rd-straight from the box).
You say you bought it lat may. Isn't the warrently a year? Contact Creative. Some people here swear by them and the Micro Zen so perhaps that is justified.
Can't hurt.

  • Is it safe/prudent to install Mavericks on my nine month old iMac

I purchased this iMac last summer:
    iMac, 21.5-inch, Late 2012. Processor:  2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory:  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Software:  OS X 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion)
It is running only those apps that came with the computer plus Firefox, Flip4Mac and Adobe Reader.
It is connected to an HP Deskjet 3510 printer....that I don't want to mess with as far as changing settings.
After following this forum since the introduction of Mavericks, I am very leery of installing it.  Prior to my present nine month old iMac, I had a four year old iMac that "went south" after updating to Snow Leopard.  Not again.
We also have in our family a recently purchased MacBook Pro running Mavericks with no problems. It is operating quite nicely with the iMac which is still operating on Mountain Lion.

Make a backup of your ML installation before you install Mavericks, so you can revert easily if you don't like Mavericks.
    Yes, that's good advice.
    Another option is to...
    1) Make a bootable backup of your setup on an external hard drive.  SuperDuper is good for this.
    2) Update the backup to Mavericks.
    3) Test the  backup for as long as you want, focusing especially on the things you normally do.
If the backup passes all your tests, you can use SuperDuper to copy the backup back to your Mac's hard drive, replacing it's contents entirely with the new updated to Mavericks system.
If you have two external hard drives, one could be the backup of your Lion set up, while the other could contain the Mavericks version of your setup.  This way you could have your cake and eat it too, Lion AND Mavericks.
I would suggest that you DO NOT just cross your fingers, hope for the best, and update Lion to Mavericks without the backups as Apple seems to suggest.  As you've seen, this might work, or it might lead to a calamity for your Mac, and a nervous breakdown for you.
It's entirely possible to make the move safely, it just takes a bit more work than you've been led to expect, that's all.
    Good luck!

    What's the fix?
Tried reset, restart, reboot, reopen of apps same problem

What do you mean by reboot? Do you mean restore? Because if you haven't restored, then that's the next step. You'll need a computer with the latest version of iTunes and a USB connector.

I know a couple others that waited for two billing cycles but it will come back as a credit on that account.

  • Average of previous nine months

    Hi,
I have been trying on a simple calculation to get the average of the last nine months (that are input in the actual scenario) to be the value of the first forecast month in the forecast scenario.
Any idea why the below calculation is not working ?!
    FIX (/*DIM:Entity*/{RTP_Entity},/*DIM:Version*/&V_WORKING_VERSION,/*DIM:Currency*/"Local")
    FIX ( /*DIM:Scenario*/&V_FORECAST_SCENARIO, /*DIM:Years*/&V_CURRENT_YEAR, /*DIM:Periods*/&V_FIRST_FORECAST_MONTH:&V_LAST_FORECAST_MONTH)
    /*STARTCOMPONENT:SCRIPT*/
    "Account"
    "11152" = @AVGRANGE (SKIPNONE,"11152",&V_CURRENT_YEAR->&V_FIRST_ACTUAL_MONTH,&V_CURRENT_YEAR->&V_LAST_ACTUAL_MONTH);
    /*ENDCOMPONENT*/
    ENDFIX
    ENDFIX
    Thanks in advance

    How about:
    "11152" = @AVGRANGE (SKIPNONE,"11152",@XRANGE(&V_CURRENT_YEAR->&V_FIRST_ACTUAL_MONTH,&V_CURRENT_YEAR->&V_LAST_ACTUAL_MONTH));

  • I have to replace my Apple Bluetooth keyboard batteries every day! Why? I have had it 2 years and replaced them maybe twice. This month every day.

I have had my Bluetooth keyboard for a couple years now, and have had to replace the batteries twice, I think. Been so long between replacing them I can't remember, call it three times if you must, but certainly no more.
This month I have had to replace the batteries on a daily basis. It has become an additional morning routine:
wake up computer, display lights up, mouse works, keyboard not
Go to battery charger and swap out batteries
    Keyboard works
    Repeat next morning
What would cause this? Most of the time I am working with graphics - so I have had to replace the mouse batteries at least 5 times in 3 years. Keyboard usage not much changed.
    Thoughts? ideas?
    Cheryl

Try restoring as new, i.e. without your backup.

  • My whole itunes library vanished twice within 3 months. I'd like to know why.

OK, I counted to 10 and took a deep breath before with writing this. I don't want to come off like a disgruntled
hater, but let's just say that right now I'm not quite a happy camper! Three months ago my iTunes library was
wiped out although in general my computer seems to be running perfectly. At  that time I called Apple and since
my computer is no longer under warranty, I had to pay $55 to ask "why was my iTunes library wiped out" and
to my amazement, no answer could be given. The person even went to his supervisor but still the reason could not be found.
I was told that since they didn't have an answer, I wouldn't be charged for the question but it was on my charge card bill
    and that wasn't fun.
My computer simply took it upon itself to create a new blank library and no one knows why? OK, I can live with that
and $55 won't break me but there is a principle involved. Let me also say that Apple did offer to download all the itunes
I bought from the iTunes store but I didn't need that because I had all the songs backed up on an external drive. For $55 I could have
re-purchased the songs anyway! Also: They obviously could not return my original songs that I created on Garageband.
I recreated my library after some time and effort that could have been used doing other things but all was well. It's not just an entertainment thing, it's also a work thing, so it upsets me when it vanishes and no one at Apple knows why, not even the geniuses?
Well today the whole library disappeared again and I'm really annoyed. (iTunes version 9.2.1 on Tiger 10.4.11)
From now on I will not store any songs in ITunes. If I have to burn a CD, I'll transfer the songs from my hard drive to the library, burn them and then delete
them from iTunes. It simple is not a stable place to store songs, especially when there is nothing one can do to prevent this.
This is not a big problem. It's just a pain in the neck. But it makes you wonder ~ Why do things disappear without the user having anything to do with it
and is this glitch confined only to iTunes? I have read about other people who have had the same exact experience. It's not the end of the world, and it does
point out he need to back everything up, but why does it happen? There has to be a common thread that runs through all of the anecdotes from people with the same exact experience. Is Tiger too old to handle iTunes 9.2.1? Is there some secret MB limit that if you go over it, a new library is automatically created? Why doesn't it save the old library? It just doesn't make sense, especially when Apple can't explain why or how to prevent this. As I mentioned, this isn't the end of the world and I don't want make a big thing out it. I just want to know how files can be deleted without the user doing anything to delete them. I feel like I'm not in full control of my computer. I love Apple products and I always will but saying I wouldn't be charged for the call and then charging me anyway doesn't seem very Apple-ish. Their customer service is awesome but this was not right. They did say that I would be charged regardless of whether or not my problem was resolved (and I agreed to that) but when it couldn't be resolved they said they wouldn't charge me. A couple of days later, an iTunes rep e-mailed me the downloads for the the songs I bought which as I mentioned I didn't need because they were backed up but I guess they assumed that was a "resolution" to my problem. They couldn't however return my original songs and although I had them backed up, there were a few that were not and those versions are gone forever. But life goes on. I just won't store songs in iTunes anymore. (deep breath) I still love Apple and all the things I can do with their amazing products. I know I should upgrade my 6 year old iMAC and get Time Machine and Lion and all that jazz but but I just wanna make music
and become a technician. My puter works perfectly and I have 3 ext drives each with 1TB of space. It's iTunes that has a glitch. (imo)

I dislike every iteration of iTunes more & more, in fact almost every iteration of any Apple App is worse than the one before, it's also sad that Apple is evermore closing off the really good 3rd party Apps, I use Audion since Apple bout SoundHam Mp & totally ruinrd it...
    http://www.panic.com/audion/
As far as backups go, I gave up on the sillyTime Machine, it seemeed to do it's stuff, but I could never get a good restore!
Every other Backup App I have, (about a dozen or more), always work.
Never bought anything on iTunes, nor am I likely ever to do so.
It's not even my birthday, but your post now has ne listening to Animals by Pink Floyd for the 1st time in years!
Back to your losses, How sure are you the of the Disk integrity?
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Portege Z930-10E - broken screen twice in 3 months only

I am laptop user since 12 years. July, 30th I bought my Portege Z930, thinking it was my best decision in many years.
Less than a month later, when opening the screen during a flight, its simply broken the screen, making it impossible to use any more.
After sending it to official service in Spain, I was told that it was my fault and for a bad use, so I had to pay more than 300 (almost 400$). I claimed to customer support, explaining them about their excessive flexible top and rigid screen, and nothing new.
    It was only my fault.
Last Octobers, 11th again when opening my top, this time using a tape label attached by myself, in order to avoid blending the screen, it scratched again.
I can`t afford this is only my fault but it is a real design problem, to get the lightest ultrabook in market.
If anyone may give me support for this serious problem, it will be very appreciated

    Hi
This is really amazing story and I believe you are the first one who reports about something like this.
Portege Z930 is for a while on the market and I never heard about such issues.
Please dont understand me wrong but it is really strange that this happen already three times.
I saw this machine and the whole construction seems pretty stabile to me. When you open the display I hope your fingers are placed in the middle of the display cover and not by the side. The pressure on display cover hinges must be the same. If you hold the display on one side only I can imagine that something like this can happen but it shouldnt.
Portege series is one of the best Toshibas business notebooks so I believe Toshiba designer and technicians take it very seriously and I cannot imagine that they make such design mistake.
I still have old Portege 2000 and it was lightest notebook at this time with very sensible display and display cover hinges but there is no problem at all.
We can discuss here for days and I really hope that someone with the same Portege can post own experiences but all this you must try to clarify with Toshiba. Be careful when you open it and hold the display in the middle only.
    Good luck.

  • Rs. 60 got debited. Twice in 4 months..v

    Hi,
I have an Apple account with Apple India website. During account verification Rs. 60 got debited from my account. I did not purchase any paid app. This has happened twice in last 4 months. Please let me know why this amount is getting debited from my account. Is it refundable? If yes, then how long will it take to be credited back in my account.
    Thanks.

  • IPhone 4S - Died/locked up twice in a month

    Greetings!
I have had my iPhone 4S for a month now, and unfortunately I have experienced some issues with it already. Twice the telephone has stopped responding to sleep/home button input and the screen went black, in addition it didnt register the power adapter nor register with iTunes in this state. Seems like it has went into a loop of sorts, as it responds to buttons when it is completely drained of battery (hours later). I recently found out that pressing and holding home + sleep for 10-20 seconds forces a restart on the telephone. I haven't experienced this again in order to try it yet, I wonder if the life of the battery can be saved this way. It is only a hotfix to the problem, or as they say "curing the symptomes" and not the problem it self.
I guess my question is this:
Is it a hardware or a software error? If it is a hardware problem I'd like to get a new and reliable iPhone asap.
If it is definately a software problem that will be remedied in the next few iOS patches I am willing to wait it out.
Don't want to send in my telephone and receive one that has the same problem, so I ask you here.
Thanks for any light you may shed on this issue,
    Jon

Sounds like you have tried none of the basics.
Try a reset .  If that fails to help, then try a restore ( first from backup, then if that fails, as new).
If these fail to help your issues, then make an appointment at the genius bar or call Apple support ot have them look at it.

  • Lost all download apps twice in this months, why

How come I lost all my download apps while playing games?  It happened twice (10-8-12 & today) within two month after I got this new iPad on 23-6-2012.  The screen was automatically blank and black.  Then all the apps was gone.  I have to download again and again.

I have provided some information below that may help.
Step 1 – Uninstall any messaging/anti-virus applications that are not native to the device (if applicable). ***Anti-virus software and non-native messaging applications have been a common issue in this type of situation.
Step 2 – Reset the messaging application
    -Press Menu
    -Select Settings
    -Select Applications
    -Select Manage Applications
    -Select All
    -Select Messaging
    -Clear data, cache.
    Step 3 – Complete a soft reset.
    -Power the device off
-Pull the battery out for 20 seconds
    -Place the battery back in
    -Power the device back on

  • Why would my hard drive fail twice in 5 months?

Hi there and thanks in advance.
I have a 1.5GHz 15" powerbook running 10.4.8 that has been pretty reliable in the (almost) 3 years I've had it. But then this fall I was getting kernel panics, freeze-ups, etc. and the Apple Store replaced the hard drive. All was good for about 5 months and then I got kernel panics again. They said it was 3rd party RAM. Removed it, but there's still a problem (when running the Disk Utility I get this msg: "First Aid failed" and "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit," and they now want to replace the hard drive again.
Is there anything that could be making my hard drive(s) die? I would like them to deal with any problems before my AppleCare expires in May. What does the logic board do? (a friend suggested having them look at it...) I'm not a computer guy, so know little about how this equipment works.
One last note. The only other thing I noticed during the 5 good months: every once in a while I would have something weird happen, for example when using the Finder I would be unable to rename folders until I restarted the machine. Or, occasionally using Mail, options I normally set in preferences would disappear, and I would have a different looking set of "New Message" options, as if I had changed my preferences, though I hadn't.
These seemed like little things and I never dealt with them because things seemed to go back to normal, but perhaps they were symptomatic of something larger? Any advice appreciated. I'm taking my computer in tomorrow or Sunday to have them replace the hard drive, and just want to relay as much info to their techs so they check out everything. Thanks again!

It could be a logic board issue, but not everything is related to it (even it sometimes sounds so when reading through the threads here
So I would ask Apple to check the logic board for correct function and if necessary, persist upon a replace before your warranty expires (logic board replacements are expensive).
What does the SMART status say about the harddrive ? You can download a nice tool from http://homepage.mac.com/julianmayer/smartreporter/index.html (alternatively the disk utility can also tell the current SMART status.

  • Rear glass cover has cracked without being dropped twice in four months
