Two compters one ipod

I recently just had to get a new computer because my old one took a ****. So now I want to add music to my ipod and I cant because the new computer and new itunes doesnt recognize my music on my ipod. I never had the chance to back up my library from the old computer.
What do I do?
Help!

You need to Transfer music manually
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • How do i sync one itunes account with two iphones, one ipod touch, and a nano?

I need help in how to sync the one itunes account we use as a family with the two iphones my wife and i have and an ipod touch that my son has and a nano that my daughter has. Please help.

That article applies, as far as I can tell, to all things called iPod X where X can be nano, touch, classic etc.
We don't have two iPhones in the family as yet but as I understand it each device can have separate settings for syncing calendars and contacts. For example my iPhone syncs these over the air with the Exchange server at work so if/when my wife gets an iPhone it would be easy to have hers sync to our computer
To make sure your apps don't inadvertently merge turn off Automatically sync new apps from the apps tab when you connect your device.
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways for managing the media content. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iDevices using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their device. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed and need rebuilding. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

  • Two users, one ipod

    Hi,
i want to share my ipod with someone else.
All music is put in one itunes on one ibook, and i want to have two different selections for uploading to the ipod: one selection for me with my songs and one for my friend with her songs.
    is this possible?

i think i need to share my itunes library with her account on my mac? so she can set up her own preferences.
if i do this and add music to my library, will it be added ti her library?
Share? You mean the sharing option in iTunes? If so she cannot copy your songs. The sharing option in itunes uses auto streaming. She only can play the songs and unable to sync to the ipod
i think i need to share my itunes library with her account on my mac
I thought you said all the songs were on the same music library. So why share? isnt all of them in the same library?
plus i want to use my own lists and she hers.
You can add more playlist and smart playlist. Setting the smart playlists like "top rated songs" might be quite tricky. Edit the smart playlist to include songs only from another playlist. For example: Your main playlist for all the songs you is "My Playlist". Then if you want a top rated list, you add the playlist option in in smart playlist editing window, choose "my playlist". Then set the rating option. Just name your playlist differently than hers
As for the space issue i cant help with that. You have to choose the songs you think worth listening to on the ipod.

  • Two computers, one ipod shuffle

Can I use my shuffle to carry itunes back and forth from home to my work computer? I installed Itunes on my work computer today, thinking I could just treat my ipod as a storage device, dragging my library off the ipod over to the work desktop. it didn't work. can I do it? how?
    thanks for the guidance...

    Ron,
Don't know if this helps, but I have a similar problem. I just want to connect my shuffle to two different computers. There's quite a few articles that make it clear that the shuffle can only be associated with one at a time, so when you plug it in to one computer you have to lose all the data you had on it from before. That's a pain but if that's how it works, I can live with it. But after I move the shuffle over it all looks ok in iTunes but then, like you, I get no audio.
I did make it recover from this once but wasn't really sure how. I'd be interested if you got any further with your problem.

  • Two computers, One iPod, One messy problem

I have a G5 computer back at my home, but recently, I decided to move. With the move I bought a new iPod and a MacBook Pro laptop. Before I left I transferred all my songs from my old G5 to my new iPod.
But now that my MacBook Pro has arrived, I've been unable to transfer songs from my iPod to my new MacBook Pro.
What I want is to basically have my new MacBook Pro be the authorized computer to my new iPod (transfer songs, DL songs, fool with my playlists), but I can't do anything like that because I think my old G5 is the only authorized computer for my iPod.
    Can anyone help me?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Use the instructions in this article to transfer the music. To authorize a computer to play purchased music, connect it to the Internet and play a song purchased from the iTunes music store in iTunes; you can authorize a maximum of 5 computers. Once authorized, you can transfer music purchased from the iTunes music store to your iPod on your new computer.

  • Can I load two Apple Accounts on one iPod?

We have two Apple products (MacPro and iMac 2.0) so we both have iTunes accounts. We share an iPod (Video 30GB 5th gen) and want to put things from both accounts onto the one iPod. Can we? and how???
I know the short answer is to buy another iPod but is there any way to use more than one account to upload into the iPod?
*also can one iPod be used on more than one computer for content? Now we share by our drop folders in the "Share" folder after we have authenticated the iMac iTunes for both our accounts. It works so far but it would be nice to know if we can use both computers to update the one iPod... are we the only ones with this situation?

    1. Yes. You can transfer content purchased from up to five iTunes store accounts onto a single iPod.
    2. Yes. See this article for instructions.

  • I have a new iPod Touch and one apple ID. I want to use My laptop aswell as my desktop computer for the one ipod, using the same apple ID. I have music on both computers and want to merge the two without losing any music or apps. How do I do this?

I have a new iPod Touch and one apple ID. I want to use My laptop aswell as my desktop computer for the one ipod, using the same apple ID. I have music on both computers and want to merge the two without losing any music or apps. How do I do this?
My iPod has music and apps from my apple ID that I downloaded to my iPod via iCloud and some apps that I got free from the store, straight onto my iPod, but my laptop has some music on it aswell, separate from my other library. I want to put the music from my laptop into my iTunes library which I want to use on both computers. Is it possible to do this?
    Thanks.

    - You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
    - If y wnat to switch syncing libraries/computer see:
go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

If all the synced media like music is in the iTunes library of the second computer it is very easy.

  • Can I have two accounts for one IPod touch?

I have two homes, two computers (one in each home), and one IPod touch. I already have an account set up on one computer in the one home. I have a second home that I'm at about one week per month. I just want to be able to buy itunes at the second home and download them also to my one IPod. In other words I want to be able to get ITunes from two computers to the just one IPod. Is that possible? My son doesn't think I so.

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library. You can also authorise each computer to use songs purchased from the same iTunes Store account:

  • One iPod but two iTunes libraries, how can I read both & back up too.

When I got my Fifth Gen last year, I was thrilled. Started a library of books and music immediately from cds I owned. Unfortunately I was mugged, and it was stolen. My kids bought me a new one (engraved w love), and now I have 55 gigs of books and music on it. But here is the problem. Since I got the new iPod, I was unable to get the old library to recognize it so I started a new library using my office computer. I can no longer download anything from iTunes at home. How can I get my two libraries to understand that they are both associated with one iPod?
Secodarily, can I back up my iPod to a hard drive, or do I have to burn 1,000 cd's to back it all up?
    Thanks! JDP

  • Can I put two Itunes libraries on one ipod

Wondering if I can put my husband's itunes library onto my ipod, so that we won't need two ipods.

to do this you need one itunes library. I understand you have two iPods are they both syncing with hte same itunes library. If so just sync the all content onto one iPod if you have enough space. Some peope have a lot of music and video.
If you have two itunes libraries that you sync each ipod with then you need to merge them these are your options if itunes are on separate computers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
If they are on the same computer but different logons then copy the music foler from one account to the other.
Once everything is in the same iTunes you may also need to Authorise the computer with the other persons Apple ID
Then you should be good to go

  • How to use ONE IPod on TWO Computers

I have an Desktop-PC using ITunes 5.0 and an IPod 20 GB. When I connect my IPod with my Laptop, the complete IPod is deleting by the ITunes on the Laptop. How can I use ONE IPod on TWO Computers without deleting the music hole time?!

I think you need to manually update on at least the computer that has the smaller music selection.
it may be best to turn off automatic updates on both machines and manually add and delete songs.
or you could network both computers to share one music library

  • I have two iPads and one iPod Touch and they are using iTunes on the same computer.

I have two iPads and one iPod Touch and they are using iTunes on the same computer. I have not been able to backup the second iPad. Is there a reason this is happening? iPad one is an iPad 1 and the second is an iPad 2 not sure if this has something to do with it. I just tried to upgrade to IOS 5 and when it went to back up it gave me an error code (-5000). I tried to back up using iTunes and it told me that my backup was corrupted and to delete it and try to back up again. When I went into the device portion where I was instructed to go to delete the backup I found that there was no backup for my iPad just the iPad 1.
I have synced many times and all of the apps, podcasts, music, etc... show up in iTunes, and iTunes recognizes that is is the second iPad but there is not a backup for it.
    Any Ideas?
