Type 2 SCD dimension on multipe levels turns into type 1 !!!

Hello
Im having difficulties implementing a type 2 dimension where the history trigger is put on multiple levels. If I only have history on the lowest level of the dimension everything works fine. But as soon as I try to capture the changes in de higher levels as well the trouble starts.
Image the following dimension:
PClass_Code PClass_Desc PGroup_Code PGroep_Desc PCode PName Eff_Dt End_Dt
A Play 120 Boardgames 4209420X Chess 19000101 20010101
A Play 120 Boardgames 4209420X Chessboard 20010102 NULL
So somewhere in time the productname has been changed, resulting in a type 2 record.
If I chose to change the productclass description in 'Toys' I expect the following to happen:
PClass_Code PClass_Desc PGroup_Code PGroup_Desc PCode PName Eff_Dt End_Dt
A Play 120 Boardgames 4209420X Chess 19000101 20010101
A Play 120 Boardgames 4209420X Chessboard 20010102 20060730
A Toys 120 Boardgames 4209420X Chessboard 20060731 NULL
A new type 2 record in my dimension.
In OWB I have set a history trigger with effective and expiration dates on the highest (productclass) and lowest (product) level to capture the changes in the history. The generation of sparse data works fine, i.e. I also get a unique record for each productclass record without any products. All the links between levels are correctly defined.
But this is what happens:
PClass_Code PClass_Desc PGroup_Code PGroup_Desc PCode PName Eff_Dt End_Dt
A Toys 120 Boardgames 4209420X Chess 19000101 20010101
A Toys 120 Boardgames 4209420X Chessboard 20010102 NULL
A type 1 change in my highest level!
Can anyone help me to achieve the 2nd scenarion, the one I expected?
Thanks much,
Roelant

Hello Rajesh,
I agree, the thing is that this is all standard OWB R2 functionality. Up untill now I always programmed SCD's manually but with this new release I try to use the built in functions. I have to say that it works fine when the changes occur on the lowest level. But with changes on higher levels... see my example :-). I am still looking for ways to get a full type 2 dimension with using the standard dimension properties.
Another possible solution is to skip all the levels and create 1 big level which contains all the attributes (including 'higher levels'). You have then got to recreate the levels and hierarchies in OLAP, which is a shame...
Hope you (or anyone) can take a look at this.
Regards,
Roelant

  • Dimension with no levels?  Can this be done?

    Hello Forum,
I'm sure someone has run into this situation - I need to create a dimension that really has no levels... I need to create a Returns Dimension that has only two attributes, attribute 1: reasons for returns (too small, wrong color etc) and attribute 2: natural business key (Reason Number). All the other information that would be important to analyzing return metrics in my Return Cube are already in other dimensions (Store, Product, Customer Order)
Can anybody share a work around, since the tool requires at least one level....
    monalisa

    Hi monalisa,
sure . . . just create a dimension with one level. If you think about it, it can't have zero levels, can it? :-)
This is pretty standard for a transaction type dimension, actually.
    But . . . consider . . .
I'll bet that you won't eventually want just Returns (I'm done lots in retail). Sales/Returns. Full Price/Mark Down 1/ Mark Down 2/Clearance. I'll bet you will end up with about 15-20 reason codes (transaction types). And then they will want to group them, and categorize them, and you will end up with a second, parent level.
There's something else to consider: this is a good dimension to store junk. Your Stock Count codes could live here. Your Stock transfer codes could live here. And so on. Do it this way, and you end up with a single conformed transaction type dimension for all your business processes. Just a thought . . .
    Cheers,
    Donna

Hi!thank you for all. I dont know if I understand correctly what you said but
this is the xml template that generates de awm creating a dimension with one level. Can you do something?

Why it has only one member in status?
    why not for CHANNEL.2,CHANNEL.3,CHANNEL.4,CHANNEL.5,CHANNEL.9?
    Please give me a hand!

Use the relation instead in the limit statement:
    limit channels_dim keep channels_dim_levelrel 'CHANNEL'
    This will work.

The first dataset works perfectly. But not the second one... There are some intersections at OBJECT_TYPE level.
    TOP->OLAP_USR->DIMENSION->OUD1
    and
    TOP->SH->DIMENSION->OUD2.
When I'm watching TOP->OLAP_USR->DIMENSION->OUD1, I not only open OUD1, but OUD2 under SH (even skipping OBJECT_TYPE level). It's simple to do it for USOLVED LEVEL-BASED by assigning different Id for the same OBJECT_TYPES from different owners. But it looks like my ids are ignored for Solved hierarchy.
Does anybody knows how to handle such situation?

I'm trying to make a dimension with SOLVED LEVEL-BASED hierarchy (Oracle 10.2.0.1).
    Hierarchy is folowing:
    TOP
    |_OWNER
    |_OBJECT_TYPE
    |_OBJECT_NAME
    Script
    DROP TABLE SOLVED_DIM;
    CREATE TABLE SOLVED_DIM

The first dataset works perfectly. But not the second one... There are some intersections at OBJECT_TYPE level.
    TOP->OLAP_USR->DIMENSION->OUD1
    and
    TOP->SH->DIMENSION->OUD2.
Does anybody knows how to handle such situation?

my ibook was clicking the other night. it has already been through the logic board recall. this appears to be the hard drive. after tech tool pro, the disk utilities, etc., and all of the alternate startup sequences, i now have an apple that turned into a circle with a slash through it (a do not allow type of symbol). i bought a new drive today and after reading many forums today, i am wondering if there is a recall, warranty or if i should send it in the my local store to get fixed or just do it myself tonight. any advice anyone?

Well, since I don't know your level of expertise, it's hard to advise you. Take a look at the online instructions:
    http://www.pbfixit.com/Guide/50.12.0.html
    http://www.powerbooktech.com/knowledge,name-Hard-Drive,type-6.htm
and see if you think you are up to the task.

  • Screen turns into blue when i upgrade the software for iphone 5s

screen turns into blue when i upgrade the software for iphone 5s

There's way too much blue in that green screen
    This is green
Try pulling down the spill level and reducing the spill tint. You're probably going to have to tweak the color selection manually.

  • Screen turns bright yellow & green curser turns into a large yellow square.

When I play any type of 3d game, such as world of warcraft my screen turns bright yellow and green. The mouse cursor turns into a large yellow square. Then it will make squiggly patterns across the screen in these colors, Almost like a argyle pattern. The only way to fix this is force quit the program (or if I can see the game still) I have to make it non-full screen. Iam thinking it might be a video card error, but iam not sure. Anyone experience this before?
    Steve.
Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   First gen Imac with intel chip 20 inch. 128 vid card.

Are you running your monitor at its native resolution? If changing the resolution of the game solves the problem as I take it from your sentence quoted here:
"The only way to fix this is force quit the program (or if I can see the game still) I have to make it non-full screen"
Then you probably should try changing the resolution of the screen before playing the game. Most games will do this automatically but if the ones you are playing do not then you may need to search for updates to them. Very few games are designed to run in wide screen mode, but generally in more traditional resolutions such as 640 x 480 or some other resolution with the same relationship between width and height.
This is my best guess anyway. Hope you get the problem solved.

Click Go then move the WebpageIcons.db file to the Trash...
Quit and relaunch Safari. Webpage icons should reflect the sites you visit now.

  • Get rid of text-select-turning-into-cursor-on-second-click

I'm currently trying to select only some of many separate text pieces, and I can't do it because the select arrow is constantly turning into a cursor. (I finally had to lock all the other layers and do several click-and-drags around the page to get the right pieces.) Don't know why they ever did this--when I work in Illustrator, I need the text cursor much less often than I need to move text objects around the page.
Someone said on this forum that it used to be you would hit "tab" to get the cursor--I see no problem with going back to that.
If anyone knows how I can get better control over the select arrow, then please let me know.
    Christine

    >The feature is a time waster. Hitting t on the keyboard is much more accurate and doesn't involve command-z or escape then switching BACK to the desired tool when a double click has accidentally occurred. I realize this is my opinion and may not be shared by Nini's "most users," whomever they are.
    But double-clicking
is more accurate and reliable. I can double-click on a text item to edit it, but when I use the Type tool I often end up clicking on nearby paths, converting them to text objects. A one-step action becomes a multi-step action. Point Nini.
However I agree, too, that there often seems to be a hair trigger on the double-click. An option in the preferences to enable the feature would probably satisfy most users. Where by "most" I mean "all".

  • Genius playlists turn into normal playlists when plugged into iTunes

    hi everyone,
my problem with my iPod touch is that when i make a new Genius playlist on the iPod, it turns into a normal playlist (i.e. one that you can't refresh and which is listed as a plain playlist underneath the Genius playlists) once i plug it into iTunes.
I updated my iPod touch (16GB) to the newest software version (3.1.3), and my iTunes is the most recent version (9.0.3.15). the problem persists.
i tried to fiddle around with iTunes a bit, so in Preferences > Devices, i checked the box to "prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically". however, this simply prevented a new Genius playlist from showing up when i plugged the iPod into iTunes, and then when i checked the iPod itself, the Genius playlist was gone!
the computer i have been having these problems with is my work computer, and the iTunes library is empty. is there an off-chance that this has something to do with the problem?

An iPod (except for iPod touch) is not directly related (in a technical way) to an Apple ID.  You can use a shuffle even if you don't have an Apple ID.  And there is no way for Apple to "link" to a shuffle (like it can with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch).  So, I don't think the two things are related.
The Apple ID may have become disabled if someone tried to log in unsuccessfully (gave wrong password) more than a certain consecutive number of times.  You'll need to contact Apple customer support, using the Contact Us link at the bottom right corner of this web page.  First, try logging in with the Apple ID, to confirm it is really disabled.  There are some sophisticated scams out there these days, that try to trick you into revealing your username and password with fake emails.  Actually, if you are posting here after logging in with that Apple ID, it is not disabled.
For the shuffle, which model is it?  This document shows the four types
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1719
If the light on the shuffle does not come on when connected, there is no power getting to the shuffle (which explains what you describe).  The possible causes are (1) the USB port not working or not supplying sufficient power, (2) a faulty USB docking cable, or (3) a problem on the shuffle (such as a bad headphones jack or logic board).
If you can rule out (1) and (2) with some troubleshooting, the cause is more likely to be (3).  If you use a USB hub, be sure to try it with a direct USB port on the computer, and test that port with something else (preferably something similar like a USB flash drive or port-powered external drive).  If you have another USB docking cable, or if you can try the cable you have with another 4th (or 3rd) gen shuffle, that wound be a good test.

  • Server in sap management cosnole does not turn into green

I installed this trial version from http://www.sdn.sap.com. with the download, there is a tutorial explaining all steps for installation.  In SAP Management Console when I click on NSP "Start" it should change to green but in my case it stays yellow.
I do not have an access key to the server. When I try to log on to this server it asks me for user and a password so I tried to use nspadm with it's password but it did not accept.
as far as i know that in order to let the server turns to green all I need to do is to right click on it and choose starts but even after doing this it does not turns into green.
I  want to create another user in order to user it  instead of SAP*
The role that I am giving to this user is u201Csystem administratoru201D but after I save it I get this message on screen:  u201CNo update server found for Eu201D
despite of this previous message it creates it. I get this if I create a new user with the previous name  I wanted to create previously.
In general I need a way to let me create my own users so I can start developing in ABAP.
I can access every thing in this workbench but if I want to do some changes on classes and packages I create it tells me that I can not using SAP* and if I want to create other users sing SU01 and then logon again using using these new users I get a problem in accessing the system using them.
I need to know what is reason for not turning the server in sap management console into green and i why i can not create users.
    Thanks
    Amal

16:9 PAL clips are well edited by fce and exported as quicktime movie are played well as 16:9 by finder. But when i import them to iDVD they will be played as 4:3 ><. Some clips failed, some are working well. If i have found a clip which does not turn into 4:3 ,it may not be changed. For example: Changing the audio-level may cause the same result. It changes into 4:3 when played by iDVD.
Who has got same experiences ? Are there possibilities to avoid this ?

  • Hi, My atachments /any file format/ turns into .dat when I mail them into my own iPad2. What to do??

    Hi
When I email an attachment /any file format/ from my PC to my iPad2 the attached file turns into a .dat file
    What to do?
    Regards

An Alias would be an email address that is delivered to a different account's inbox.
For instance if you have  [email protected] and have [email protected] Then [email protected] would be an alias if mails from that address arrive at the icloud address.
If you want to add a completely different account, with a spearate inbox, like an account in hotmail and one in say yahoo mail. Then as has been pointed out, you need to go into the  Settings Icon, Tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and then on add account. The iPad has several services preconfigured, you can tap on one of those from the list to setup an email for that service. Such as Hotmail, Gmail etc...
Or you can tap on other to add a personal pop3 or imap type email like from your office, or your school.
