UAD/SATA/MOTU over loading the pci BUS?

I have a gual 2,5 g5 and have :
1.PCI Motu card with 4xMotu interfaces
2.Uad Card
3.Sata PCI card connected to RAID running audio (lots of tracks)
All running Logic 7.2.3
Am I overloading the PCI bus.........
I am getting glitches before audio tracks play (until I knock off PDC in Logic)...
also i was getting some glitches in the audio and some stuttering until I knocked off some of the UAD plugins (though not overloading the UAD card)...
Its a nightmare as there are some many things that may not be compatible...
But for now...Im looking at the PCI bus///

PCI and PCI-X cards enable the Power Mac G5 to perform specialized tasks, such as video capture and playback and audio digital signal processing (DSP). PCI-X supports 3.3V signaling and Universal 33MHz and 66MHz PCI cards. Choose a PCI or PCI-X Power Mac G5 system: Three 64-bit PCI-X slots let you add one card running at 133MHz and two cards running at 100MHz, and three 64-bit PCI slots allow you to add three 33MHz cards.Therfore 133 mhz runs faster marginally than 100hmz.

  • What is the PCI bus performance of the 1422?

I'm currently using an IMAQ PCI-1422 to acquire images from a camera. The image size is 1280x1024 @ 8-bits a pixel. Currently the camera can only run freely at 20 fps. So this data rate is roughly 26 MB/s. The IMAQ card seems to be able to acquire these images at that rate. However, I need to be able to retrieve these images into system memory at the same rate. At this time, I've only managed to retrieve the images at around 12 fps which is about 16 MB/s. Is this all I can reasonably expect from this card? There is no other activity along the PCI bus except for perhaps minor updates to the video display.
I'm acquiring images using a Grab. I use a callback on the Buffer Done signal to trigger an acquisit
ion running in another thread. Actually, I'd prefer to the acquisition in the callback itself, but I am uncertain as to how the callback is implemented and what I can and can't do in a callback. Is there documentation somewhere that I'm missing?
Oh yeah. I'm using MSVC++ and Windows 98.
    Thanks

I tried the example and removed the clipping the ROI to the size of the canvas and also took out the image plot to make sure we would get accurate times. I get the same frame rate with that example as I did with my own code (around 12 fps). Also, I neglected to mention that for my own code I placed calls to timers just before and just after the call to imgGrab, and the time difference is what you would expect: about .083 seconds (average) to retrieve one frame.
I know nothing about the internal structure of the PCI-1422, but considering that we are retrieving images from the same SDRAM memory that is being used to acquire images, are we seeing some sort of bus contention on the PCI-1422 itself? Also, the camera I'm using is an evaluation board, and I have access
to the schematics and should soon have access to the CPLD design. So I can verify the design of the camera itself. I'm glad to hear that you expect to be able to transfer at 45MB/sec. That probably means that there is something not quite right either in the camera interface or perhaps in the computer system being used. But if you have any other ideas, I'd be glad to hear them.
    Thanks for the response.

  • HT204384 What are GT/s?- "Computers that use the PCIe bus express their speed as GT/s"? and what else is the card slot used for?

If I understand correctly the card slot on the Macbook Pro is for flash memory? Can it be used for anything else?

    Read http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3553?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
for information on the card slot.
GT/s is gigatransfer per second. It takes into account the overhead of the PCIe bus.

  • R60 9459AT8 - is the USB2 on the PCIe bus?

I have an excellent R60, Type 9459AT8, with an SSD, and would like to minimize disk reads and writes. I've already set up the TRIM and configured my Xubuntu file system with no swap. I'd like to put the swap on a (physically) tiny flashdrive, so I can figure out what the max read/write speed would be. I sure would like to know if the left-side USB 2 port is on the PCIe bus or not, and whther it works at high-speed (480 Mbps), full-speed (12 Mbps), or low-speed (1.5 Mbps).

Hi! HERE's a widget that you'll like for temp monitoring. And HERE's the Apple Doc you wanted to find. Tom

  • Crackling while PCI-bus is stressed [Audigy 2

    Hello
I have a Audigy 2 NZ soundcard. I recently bought a SATA-controller card and have connected a harddri've to said controller. When that disc is under heavy load, such as when transferring large amounts of data to my main harddri've, I experience crackling and hissing sounds while playing music (and presumably any other sound-related activity).
If the harddri've is not under heavy load everything works perfectly. I gather this has to do with the PCI-bus being stressed.
I realize there are plenty of posts on this forum discussing a crackling/hissing problem on the Audigy 2, however many of them seem to concern a general crackling problem, even while the system is not under any sort of stress whatsoever...
So, finally, my question is: is there anything to be done to eliminate this crackling?

    Solfi wrote:
...if I'm not completely off about what these latencies does, shouldn't I be *decreasing* the latency of the soundcard, so that it's lower than the Raid-controller, thus giving it priority over the SATA-cards in my case?
And is there any way to quantify whether or not changing these settings arbitrarily has any optmising or detrimental effect?... Are any guides out there as to what values one should choose, or is it all a matter of try, try again?
Decreasing PCI latency means less CPU time.
Here is some information @ http://www.mark-knutson.com/t3/index.html
    You can google more.
You can also prevent programs to set PCI Latency (set by the BIOS (PCI Latency timing setting)) using registry tweak.
    - set all DisableProgPCILatency key values on registry into (HEX or DEC). (defaulted to 0).
    - boot PC to BIOS
    - set PCI latency timing value into 32 or 64 (BIOS) 'this become settings default (32 =
    best overall performance)
    - boot
When you BOOT # time after changes, your PC may freeze or start very slowly. If it
does, BOOT once into safe -mode (no changes needed ). I think this happens if your
graphics card is not accepting too low value.
Run PCI Latency tool and see, if there is some useful changes got.
If you need to adjust more, then use tool for it (This also allows increasing your sound
cards PCI latency, if you feel its too low).

  • OK What About The PCI Buss Lock at 33?

I read over at Anantech in the review of the k7n2-L that the PCI bus is not locked.
    From Anandtech:
We still haven't been able to get confirmation from MSI as to whether the K7N2-L locks the PCI bus at 33MHz. There is an AGP lock at 66MHz for this board (as with all nForce2 boards). We'll immediately update you with more information as we receive it from MSI. 12/04/02 UPDATE: MSI sends word that the K7N2-L indeed does not have a PCI bus lock at 33MHz, meaning you will overclock your PCI bus to a certain level at a certain overclocked FSB speed.
Now I have read here in a couple of threads that the PCI buss is lock at 33.
     So who is right???

its locked guy at amd forums the wise one measured his on a pc gieger 33.4 regardless of fsb

  • PCI bus and memory ranges in Device Manager.

    Hello,
I looked in device manager on my netbook that has no dedicated graphics card (so no dedicated VRAM) and uses shared system RAM as
it’s video buffer, the following memory ranges have been assigned to the on board card -
If I then change the view in device manager to ‘Resources by type’, Windows shows the following memory ranges to be on the PCI bus
Basically all the memory ranges that have been assigned to the card are shown to be also on the PCI bus. I would understand this with
a dedicated graphics card where data needs to be forwarded onto the PCI bus but I know my netbook is using system memory as the frame buffer which then I assume the card reads from there.
Do you know why these addresses are shown to be on the PCI bus, is it just because the card is a PCI device so it’s easier for Windows
just to display them as if they were on that bus, and anything written to these address will still go into system memory?
I know it’s a bit of a random question but I’ve been trying to find an answer online and can’t seem to find anything.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks.

    Hi,
For your question: Do you know why these addresses are shown to be on the PCI bus, is it just because the card is a PCI device so it’s easier
for Windows just to display them as if they were on that bus, and anything written to these address will still go into system memory?
    Yes.
You can check the hardware memory usage via Resource Monitor.

  • PCI Bus unlocked on K9N4 SLI F

Hello people, I'm new at this forum.  I'm from Argentina and I'm trying to find a solution to this issue.
When I raise the fsb bus the pci bus go up too.  I have a sound blaster audigy on that bus and that's why I can't go further with my overclock :(
I get 220 fsb from bios and I get 36 mhz to the pci bus.  Then I used clock-gen and here are the pictures.
I really need help here, I even try to find some "hidden" bios options by my self but I didn't found any :(
I didn't find on the bios nothing about pci/lock or pci/async. I also have the latest bios(v1.4).
I don't know what to do.
    Thank you all in advance

  • Black screen on MacPro1,1: PCI bus failure?

I have a MacPro1,1 (the original 2006 model) running OS X 10.7.5. This machine has functioned reliably for 8 years. But last night the display went black (NEC PA-271W, driven by an Apple ATI Radeon 5770). My trouble-shooting tests so far:
Restart Mac Pro. Restart in Safe Boot mode. Restart in Single-User mode. Restart from a clone backup. Waited for hardware to cool down and tried again. No love. Screen never lights up.
Attached display to a MacBook Pro, using same cable and DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. Monitor works correctly.
I can run the Mac Pro via screen sharing from my MBP. So the system and hard disk seem to be OK.
I accessed the Mac Pro via screen sharing and read its System Report
About This Mac > More Info > System Report
    What I saw was disturbing:
    Graphics/Displays: No information found.
PCI Cards: This computer doesn't contain any PCI cards.
I tried re-seating the ATI Radion 5770, and tried inserting another card that I had on hand (Nvidia GeForce 8800GT) in a different slot. The info in System Report remained the same.
Does this look like a hardware failure? Power supply gone south? Is there any type of hardware diagnostic software that I can run on a headless Mac? I don't want to spend any significant money on repairing this old beast, since I was planning to replace it this year.

The Mac Pro lives on.  It was the ATI Radeon 5700 video card that died.  I pulled it out of the PCI slot, and then the Mac was able to see the other video card.  So it looks like the Radeon had an internal failure (short circuit?) which was causing an abnormal current drain from the mother board.  The Mac shut down the PCI bus to protect itself.

  • Pci bus issue with Windows 7 upgrade

I recently upgraded from Windows XP to WIndows 7, but I'm being shown that I am missing two drivers for base system devices. I did a little digging and have found that I'm specifically missing the PCI bus 13, device 0, function 2 driver and the PCI bus 13, device 0, function 3 driver. Could anyone help me out with this? I have updated all drivers that have needed it, but it didn't help. I have tried locating specific drivers on Lenovo and Intel's websites and had no luck. I've tried un-installing and re-installing the entire PCI bus, didn't work either. Bios has been updated as well.
The only other item that appears to not work is the blue light for the Lenovo care button on my keyboard. It did work with XP and I've gone thru all updates I can find for that as well.
I'm on an SL500 laptop if that makes a difference.
    Thanks,
    Cheryl

  • PCIe bus to memory access timeout

We make telecom network interface cards to use with our middleware software product. The PCIe variant of this card (which uses a PLX 8311 bridge chip) is reporting a timeout while trying to access memory via the PCIe bus on an M9000 server. The chip is trying to read a DMA descriptor from PCIe memory and is not granted access within 33 mSec. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

  • Were are the PCI slots?.......

    hai
Am new to national instrument products, i know that PXI stands for PCI eXtention and Instrumentation.
We received a PXI-1052 chassis and i was wondering "were are the PCI slots in it". I found some kind of male pins at the end of the slots to place the SCXI module. are those PCI bus which are redesigned?
    am just curios
    thanks for any reply
    Arun

    Arun,
You are indeed correct that PXI stands for PCI eXtensions for Instrumentation, as this name implies, PXI leverages PCI bus technology to take advantage of the high data rates and ease of use that the PCI bus offers.
While PXI offers the same PCI bus technology that can be found in a standard desktop computer, the interface to the bus is different. While a standard desktop computer utilizes flat PCI slots for plug-in hardware, PXI offers a more rugged Euro Card interface. To see the differences between the two, you can follow the link below to see a picture showing the two interfaces:
Interface Differences between PCI and PXI
In the case of your PXI-1052 chassis which combines both PX
I and SCXI slots in a single chassis, the smaller slots on the left-hand side (as you look at the chassis) will be the PXI slots. The SCXI slots are the slightly taller slots on the right-hand side of the chassis.
I hope that helps to answer your question. If you are interested in learning more about PXI, you can do so by reading a tutorial here at ni.com or by visiting the PXI Systems Alliance website (both linked below).

  • Can I 'rescan' the PCI expansion slots?

    Howdy...
I have a PCIe Express card reader in my MacPro to read cards from my Sony XDCam. It works very well if I boot with the card in the slot, and I can also 'eject' the card when I'm done, but I can't insert a card while the computer is already running...
Is there any way (script? Terminal command?) that I can get the Mac to rescan the PCIe bus and re-recognize my card? in windows I can 'scan for new devices' which works, but I can't figure out how to do something similar in OS X...
    Any suggestions would be appreciated...
    -Ben

    Howdy...
An Express Card is the same sort of slot that the MacBook Pro has. It reads Express Cards. The Mac Pro does not have this slot, but I have a PCIe card installed in my Mac Pro that enables the MacPro to read express cards.
It works great, and as long as I have a card in the slot when I boot, everything is good. I can then eject the card and everything is still fine. It's just when I reintall the card (wihtout a boot) it is not recognized. Unlike the MBP, where I can insert and remove the card with no issues at all.
I'd like to get that same functionality on the Mac Pro, but I think it requires rescanning the PCIe bus again...
    Any thoughts?

  • X-Fi XtremeGamer doesn't work, is pci bus the cau

    Hello,
    warning: lengthy post ahead
I've recently bought an X-Fi XtremeGamer and an old thinclient pc, with the idea of making a small, low-power mp3 player. The thin client has a VIA C3 533Mhz processor, 256Mb ram, and a single PCI slot (used for the X-Fi).
However, when I install the X-Fi and the drivers, it just doesn't seem to work: while it shows up in the device manager without any error indication, it doesn't produce any sound at all. The audio console behaviour is odd as well: changing modes causes it to completely freeze up, and I can't select any speaker configuration, even tough I have analog speakers connected to the green jack.
I'm running a fresh installation of Windows XP SP2, disabled the on-board audio and removed the drivers for the on-board audio. I've already tried cleaning and reinstalling the X-Fi drivers, but the result stays the same. Trying to change sound levels in microsoft's sound manager doesn't make a difference either. I've tested the sound card in another, 'regular' pc, and it works fine.
Because there's absolutly no documentation to be found for this thinclient, I can't determine the exact version of it's PCI bus. However, based on the keying, it appears to use 5V signalling. This shouldn't be a problem for the X-Fi, since it's keying indicates it can use both 5V and 3.3V pcI busses. However, I was able to determine that the PCI slot does *not* provide -2V, as it is supposed to. Could this be the cause of the X-Fi's malfunctioning?
    Thanks

This is really a bad issue. I think unless you are in the warranty period please change it once again and more over please if possible perform the deleting task over there

  • Can we monitor the CAN bus load through a vi

Is there a way to monitor the CAN bus load through a vi? I am using USB 8473 to establish a CAN communication.
    Thank You,
    -Raghu

    Hi Raghu,
Are you referring to fuctionality similar to the percentage bus load the NI CAN Bus Monitor shows?
If so, there are no built-in LabVIEW VIs that access this information.  You would have to use the available CAN VIs and implement it yourself.
Alternativly, if you only need this for testing, you can use another NI CAN device on the bus to monitor the bus load and then simply remove this device for deployment.
    Hope this helps!
