UCM Indexer - Collection Rebuild Cycle errorring out
We are trying to run the indexer on a huge set of jpg files. The current count is around 2 Million. After we start the collection rebuild cycle, we get following errors. Can someone advise how to fix this? The first two errors are repetitive and ultimately indexing is aborted when we get the last error.

Some possible debugging ideas. (in no particular order)
1. Run IdcAnalyze (see the Trouble shooting guide in the documentation for details on how to run it). It is used to look at the existing file system, DB, and index. It can offer options (in the form of a batch file you can choose to execute) to fix issues.
2. Examine the files and CS settings to see what it is doing. In specific since this example is purely JPG files (non text non full text indexed) does this CS involve an IBR? The inbound Refinery settings may be off and keeping things from progressing to indexing. Conversion happens before indexing.
While debugging do set Verbose logging on sections (at least these sections but you can do more if you like) system,index* (the * is a wild card to allow for all index tracing sections)

Error in Collection Rebuild Cycle
Hi Guys,
I encounter some error when I try to rebuild the indexer . I found the message error in UCM.
The message is "Indexing aborted at 10/10/2012 11:32 AM Aborting Index build .Too many errors with finding and copying files to appropriate place".
Thanks and Regards,
BambooHi ,
"Indexing aborted at 10/10/2012 11:32 AM Aborting Index build .Too many errors with finding and copying files to appropriate place".
This indicates that there is some file system issue with contents found in weblayout / vault directories .
I would suggest you to run IdcAnalyzer so that these issues are captured and a file is created to rectify the same .
Thanks

Integer and date fields, if marked as searchable, automatically get added to the zoned column list, thus quickly exceeding the SDATA limit of 32.In other words, look at the number of date metadata fields AND the number of integer fields you have defined in Configuration Manager. If you have more than 30 or so of these fields AND if each one of them are "searchable" (is the "enable for search index" box checked for these fields?), then there is your problem -- simple as that. THEY WILL NOT SHOW UP IN CONFIGURATION MANAGER AS "OPTIMIZED"! These fields get set as optimized automatically as previously mentioned.
You have to uncheck the box for some of the fields, or change the search engine from OTS to something else. -
Segment Shrinking script erroring out due to Function based indexes, lobs,.
DB version:10gR2
Following is a script i made for freeing up(SHRINK ing and resetting HWM) the space in Tables and its indexes. Due to the existence of LOB Segments and Tables with Function based indexes, this script was erroring out. So i was wondering if there is a way to find out the segments which are eligible/not eligible for Shrinking so that i could make necessary changes to the below script.
create or replace procedure freeup_space
is
type v_segment_type is table of varchar2(30) index by binary_integer;
v_segment v_segment_type;
begin
select segment_name bulk collect into v_segment
from user_segments
where segment_type in ('TABLE')
and segment_name not like 'BIN%';
for i in v_segment.first..v_segment.last loop
execute immediate 'alter table ' || v_segment(i) ||' enable row movement';
dbms_output.put_line('Table '||v_segment(i)||'''s row movement enabled');
execute immediate 'alter table ' || v_segment(i) ||' shrink space cascade';
execute immediate 'alter table ' || v_segment(i) ||' deallocate unused';
end loop;
end;
/You can use USER_LOBS views to look for LOB columns in the segments and ALL_INDEXES.INDEX_TYPE tells if the index is function based index or not.

Unable to cycle error log due to lock that will not clear
Hello,
Currently I'm having an issue with cycling the error log on two SQL Server Instances because the file is being used by another process. Simple I know but, when you try to kill the SPID it becomes hung and we are forced to restart the instance, which I want
to avoid at all costs. To give you some background we use sqldm for our monitoring of the databases and received a message that our Error log reached its max size threshold and to cycle the error log. When I executed exec sp_cycle_errorlog I'm told the following
message:
Msg 17049, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_cycle_errorlog, Line 9
Unable to cycle error log file from 'J:\MSSQL10.SQL6\MSSQL\Log\ERRORLOG.1' to 'J:\MSSQL10.SQL6\MSSQL\Log\ERRORLOG.2' due to OS error '32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)'. A process outside of SQL Server may be
preventing SQL Server from reading the files. As a result, errorlog entries may be lost and it may not be possible to view some SQL Server errorlogs. Make sure no other processes have locked the file with write-only access."
DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator.
Then I ran the following query in instance A and found that sqldm had a active process.
SELECT *
FROM sys.dm_exec_requests a
OUTER APPLY sys.dm_exec_sql_text(a.sql_handle) b
WHERE session_id > 50
and session_id <> @@spid AND( text = 'xp_readerrorlog' OR text = 'sp_cycle_errorlog')
ORDER BY start_time a
Like I said before when I kill the SPID it became hung and remains in a rollback state (the process is not rolling back). My co-worker had this issue before on this same instance and contacted Idera for support, here was their response "The development
team provided an update regarding this case. After reviewing the code, SQLdm only reads the SQL logs information in each collection and does not lock this resource. Given the behavior that you described, this could be a problem of SQL Server 2008"
I believe they're right because we're only seeing this in these two instances. All other instances using sqldm are not reporting this problem which leads me to believe it is MS SQL Server causing it. This is where I'm stuck and that is trying to find out why
there is a lock on this file and for what reason. I used Process explorer yesterday to search for any processes that are using ERRORLOG through the Find DLL and Handle window and there were mulitple processes touching this file. When I looked today I'm seeing
now locks for this file and I still cannot cycle the error log. I ran the slect query above I'm still seeing sqldm SPID in both instances. I'm curious to see if anyone else has had this issue before whether they used sqldm or not. Any information will be helpful
in tracking this issue down.
Thank you in advance.
Process Explorer Search Results
Instance A
Instance BHi,
Generally, I use Process Explorer to find out which process is blocking the SQL Server from cycling the error log file. Open search box for ‘errorlog’ or dentify the entries with Handle or DLL as ‘your error log path’. There could be two
or more processes relating to that. One of them should be ‘sqlservr.exe’, and the others should be the culprits. Verify the process, and try to terminate it and then you should be able to run the stored procedure ‘sp_cycle_errorlog’ to cycle the
error log without restarting the SQL Server.
According to the images, there is no process found. I suggest you start the monitor and launch procexp.exe tool again and see if it makes any difference this time. If still no progress, I think you cannot avoid restating.
Thanks.

Runtime constant (Filename) errors out in BPM
Hi,
I have a BPMCollectTime scenario to collect the Source files. The filename (Message Mapping/Transformation) from the files is captured in TRANSFORM STEP(before sending them out from BPM). The file is sent to SEND step one at a time.
Question : Filename of the source file is captured through user defined function.
Following is the code.
================
String v_result_time; //test Variable
DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","FileName");
if (key == null) { v_result_time= "Create Key Failed";}
else
{v_result_time= "Create Key worked";
String valueOld = conf.get(key);
v_result_time = valueOld;
return v_result_time;
The Mapping gives a runtime error in the BPM. This is a sporadic error.
I have selected the Adapter specific attribute(File name).
The BPM errors out sometimes? I am not sure if I am missing any setting. If I delete the work item and run the same scenario it works.
Question 1 : What is the cause of the above error?
Question 2 : Does BPM support Adapter specific attribute such as filename?
Kindly Advice.
Thanks,
GowriHi Everyone,
Thanks for all the help.
DTN will not change the response filename to source filename. This option cannot be used. The correlation id is defined as response file name. Response filename is fixed for invoice file.
Here is the example.
For invoice file name HDTN20070430163110.TXT, response file received is nav1_2b5.rsp file. For HDTN20070430163314.TXT , response file is nav1_2b5.rsp
So my correlation id is dummy fixed value. I have known the fact that it is not possible to use context object filename.
Bhavesh - I have defined transform step for accessing filename using dynamic configuration. Following is the code used in mapping.
================
String v_result_time; //test Variable
DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","FileName");
if (key == null) { v_result_time= "Create Key Failed";}
else
{v_result_time= "Create Key worked";
String valueOld = conf.get(key);
v_result_time = valueOld;
return v_result_time;
====================================
BPM errors out sometime with following error
Component mapping has returned error.
com/sap/xi/tf/_MM_DTNData_2_DTNFilename_java.lang.NullpointerException.
Error: Exception CX_MERGE_SPLIT occurred (program: CL_MERGE_SPLIT_SERVICE========CP, include: CL_
If I delete this workitem and repeat the same scenario, it works. I have still not understood, why the scenario works sometime.
Kindly Advice.
Thanks,

"analyze index" vs "rebuild index"
Hi,
I don't undestand the difference between "analyze index" and "rebuild index".
I have a table where I do a lot of "insert" and "update" and "query", What is the best thing to do ??
thanks
GiordanoWhen you use dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats package with cascade=>true option, you are also collecting stats for the indexes, no need to collects stats separately using dbms_stats.gather_index_stats.Of course, but I refered to the rebuild index question. Therefore I only mentioned the GATHER_INDEX_STATS.
Auto_sample_size has many problems/bugs in 9iOk didn't know that - I'm using 10gR2.
But this discussion made me curious. So I tried something (10gR2):
CREATE TABLE BIG NOLOGGING AS
WITH GEN AS (
SELECT ROWNUM ID FROM ALL_OBJECTS WHERE ROWNUM <=10000)
SELECT V1.ID,RPAD('A',10) C FROM GEN V1,GEN V2
WHERE ROWNUM <=10000000;
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM BIG;
COUNT(*)
10000000
So I had a Table containing 10 Million rows. Now I indexed ID:
CREATE INDEX BIG_IDX ON BIG(ID)
I tested two different methods:
1.) GATHER_TABLE_STATS with estimate 10%
EXEC DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS(TABNAME=>'BIG',OWNNAME=>'DIMITRI',CASCADE=>TRUE,ESTIMATE_PERCENT=>10);
It took about 6 seconds (I only set timing on in sqlplus, no 10046 trace) Now I checked the estimated values:
SELECT NUM_ROWS,SAMPLE_SIZE,ABS(10000000-NUM_ROWS)/100000 VARIANCE,'TABLE' OBJECT FROM USER_TABLES WHERE TABLE_NAME='BIG'
UNION ALL
SELECT NUM_ROWS,SAMPLE_SIZE,ABS(10000000-NUM_ROWS)/100000 VARIANCE,'INDEX' OBJECT FROM USER_INDEXES WHERE INDEX_NAME='BIG_IDX';
NUM_ROWS SAMPLE_SIZE VARIANCE OBJEC
9985220 998522 ,1478 TABLE
9996210 999621 ,0379 INDEX
2.) GATHER_TABLE_STATS with DBMS_STATS.AUTO_SAMPLE_SIZE
EXEC DBMS_STATS.DELETE_TABLE_STATS(OWNNAME=>'DIMITRI',TABNAME=>'BIG');
EXEC DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS(TABNAME=>'BIG',OWNNAME=>'DIMITRI',CASCADE=>TRUE,ESTIMATE_PERCENT=>DBMS_STATS.AUTO_SAMPLE_SIZE);
It took about 1,5 seconds. Now the results:
NUM_ROWS SAMPLE_SIZE VARIANCE OBJEC
9826851 4715 1,73149 TABLE
10262432 561326 2,62432 INDEX
The estimate 10% was more exact - also a 1,7 and 2,6 percent variance is still ok. It's also very interesting, that using AUTO_SAMPLE_SIZE
causes oracle to execute a estimate 5% for the index and a estimate 0.5 for the table.
I tried again with a table containing only 1 Million records and oracle did an estimate with 100% for the index.
So for me I will continue using AUTO_SAMPLE_SIZE. Its very flexible, fast and accurate.
