UDA's in Excel

Is there a way to easily include a UDA in an Excel Worksheet without going through member selection?thanks

What you can do with the addin is select member selection from the essbase menu. Select the dimension you want add it to the right box. Then right mouse click on it and select subset. In the box that appears select UDA = your UDA. Click add. click ok until you leavfe member selection. What you end up with is a list of members that meet that uda criteria. Not the most elegant solution, but it will get you the list you need. I think you can also do this in the query wizard.Glenn [email protected] Solutions

  • Select UDA Members

I am working in Excel and trying to populate a treeview on a form with the members of a given dimension. Using GetMemberInfo that all works well. Now my question is I would like to be able to include or exclude certain members from the treeview based on UDA's attached to the members. How do I go about reading the UDA's associated with a given member? Ultimately my goal is to write a sub that works similar to GetMemberInfo, but that accept one of more UDA's to filter the output by.

I assume that it is possible that you might add new members during the budget process which is why you are seeking to find a solution that would take care of that.<BR><BR>If it is the case that members won't change, then why not just pull down the members by UDA using the Excel Add In into a worksheet, and then structure them so that they can be used in a Treeview control.<BR><BR>I know its a bit clunky, but that was what I did before I got my interactive dimension display model to work properly.<BR><BR>It saved me much time, and also meant that people could work on it offline (such as at home or in a different office).<BR><BR>Just a thought that may allow you time to go back when things are quieter to look at it again.<BR><BR>If, however you have to do it now because things might change, then I think the only thing you could do would be to:<BR><BR>Allocate a range in a worksheet that can be hidden/unhidden<BR><BR>At the start of the process you would need to clear it<BR><BR>Then use your method to get the dimension members, and use the GetUserAttributes to see if you want to write it to the range or not. <BR><BR>Then you could run the Treeview from the range.<BR><BR>The downside is that you won't know when to refresh it or not. If it is very quick to do, then it won't matter, but if it takes a while you might need to ask the user if they want to refresh their data.<BR><BR>Sorry but my Excel is corrupted tonight, otherwise I would have had a go at producing something to check out the timings of it.<BR><BR>I would be interested to see your solution.<BR>

  • Need to retrieve all the UDAs associated to a member and its respective children in Excel

    Dear Experts,
I'm working on Essbase version 11.1.2.1.106 and Hyperion smart view 11.1.2.1. There is a custom dimension in the outline and UDAs are assigned to all the members of that custom dimension.
Now the requirement is to retrieve all the UDAs of a particular member and its respective children in Excel. Please let me know if there is any option to fulfill the requirement.
Let say there is a member A and it has 10 childrens(A1-A10). All these members have UDAs assigned to them. Now i would like to retrieve/adhoc analysis all these members as well as its associated UDA in Excel. How can we do that using smart view.
    All your inputs are appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance

    Sree,
If one does as you suggest, the individual UDAs can be viewed in the member selector dialog box and then members (not the UDAs) can be selected based on that.
That is not, I think, what the OP wants:
    >>Now the requirement is to retrieve all the UDAs of a particular member and its respective children in Excel.
Your approach doesn't provide the above.
People have thought about using MDX to get the UDAs (and maybe someone really good with MDX metadata queries might come up with this), but that doesn't seem to be the case:
Retrieving all Uda using Mdx Query-what should be string_value_expression?
The API or Applied OLAP's new and improved Outline Extractor would seem to be the way to go.  Or of course you could export out the outline using MaxL and then parse the XML.

  • Export dimensions to excel include UDA

    Hi.........
Can i export the dimensions in outline including uda to Excel.
    Regards,
    Bharathi

YOu could custom roll something through the api's or take a look at the outline extractor tool that Tim Tow has graciously made available to the community at http://www.appliedolap.com/free-tools/outline-extractor

  • How to extract UDA contents

I want toget a text file listing the manders in a dimension and the UDAs associated with them. How can I do this? I am runingEssbase 5 on this cube.I have had no luck with the OLAP Underground Outline Extractor, which crashes whenever I use it.

I can think of 3 possible options, others may have further ideas.1. Use the Essbase API - check out the EsbOtlQueryMembersByName and EsbOtlGetUserAttributes functions.2. Check out the ESSCMDQ utility available on Essbase.com. I believe this is the Hyperion developers command line tool to test the API. It lets you execute many of the API commands from an ESSCMD prompt. Just a note: I'm not sure whether this provides the functionality you're looking for - you'll have to check it out.3. Is this a one-time requirement or an ongoing required report? You could use Excel and the Member Select feature to exact a list of members that have a specific UDA - do this for all your UDAs and you'll have your desired list.Hope this helps,- Jay---------------------------Jay NishSenior Business Intelligence ConsultantClarity SystemsEmail: [email protected]: www.claritysystems.com

  • EPMA Ads File generation using excel

    Hi,
We had a classic planning application at our client and now we have decided to move on to EPMA. I have used EPMA file generator to extract ads file from Planning application & uploaded it to the shared library successfully. Now I want to add a UDA to the accounts dimension members. HOwever I want to export this file in to spreadsheet so that I can update the UDA and reload it back to the planning application.
However the moment i open in excel & make changes the formatting messes up and loads of unnecessary commas emerge.
Has anyone tried a better way of doing it?
    Cheers,
    XXX

    Hi,
There are two methods to do this task:-
    Excel -
    1. Copy all the contents of the ADS file to the Excel sheet
    2. Use text to columns feature and split the properties based on the pipe separator (|)
    3. Add the lines you want to
    4. Concatenate them with the pipe separator and paste it in ADS
Notepad ++ (I agree with Todd Johnson)
    1. Open the file in Notepad++
    2. make add the lines without making mistakes (it has a lot of rich features that improve accuracy)
    3. save it and use it.
    Thanks.

  • Loading multiple UDAs

Having problem with the syntax for loading multiple UDAs into epma using the Excel File generator.
First I created the UDA dimension. I then added members to that dimension. Next I posted UDAs in the UDA column in the dimension requiring the UDA.
The file uploads with errors. It will take the UDA if there is only "1" UDA but won't take it if there is multiple UDAs. I am using a comma separator for the multiple UDAs using what appears as the syntax if I manually load them into EPMA using the properties editor in the Web interface. But it won't take if I try the import.
I'm sure there is something simple I'm missing and instead of trying over and over again to figure out what I'm missing looking for suggestions.
Currently the entry looks like this for Entity dimension (this is pulled directly from the ADS file). Only thing I have set is Parent,Child,UDA,Alias=Default
    FINPRESCEXP;C1154;FIN;FIN-Projet image corporative
    AAPRESCEXP;C1175;FIN,CSC,AGP,AAP;C-Restructuration
The first one works. The second one is regected, saying the member "FIN,CSC,AGP,AAP" doesn't exist

    You are correct.
To be specific for future people. You create a column per UDA you want to create (you can have lots of blanks if you want). The column header is simply UDA over and over again (nothing fancy like Alias= -> UDA=)

  • Collaborate on Excel workbooks with Sharepoint Foundation

My company recently implemented SharePoint Foundation 2013 and our shared Excel workbooks are no longer allowing multiple users to collaborate at the same time. We have verified that all the settings and permissions are correct and that checking in and
checking out is not required. Is this something that is not available with SharePoint Foundation? We are using Office 2013 installed on the clients, not Office online. Thank you.

Co-authoring of Excel workbooks is only supported when all the editors are using the Excel web application, not the Excel client application.
    From
    Microsoft's overview of co-authoring in SharePoint 2013:
    >"Co-authoring is easy to use from the end user’s point of view. When a user wants to work on a document in Word 2013, PowerPoint 2013, OneNote 2013, Visio 2013 or one of the Office Web Apps, he or she merely opens it from SharePoint 2013 or SharePoint
Online, as usual. If another user already has the document open, both users can edit the document at the same time.
One exception to this is that users can co-author in Excel Web App only if everyone uses the Excel Web App to access the workbook. If anyone uses Excel 2013 or Excel 2010 (the client application)
to access the workbook, co-authoring in Excel Web App will be disabled for that workbook while it is open in the client application."
    >"The Excel 2013 client application does not support co-authoring workbooks in SharePoint 2013 or SharePoint Online. But, the Excel client application uses the Shared Workbook feature to support non-real-time co-authoring workbooks that are stored
locally or on network (UNC) paths."

  • Upload data from Excel to BI

    Hi 2 all,
Can anyone please send me the complete steps for uploading of data from excel to BI??
Also tell me that when we use DSO or when we use infocube? and if we design query in query designer then we use info cube fields or DSO fields??
    Please respond.
    Regards,
    Aisha Ishrat
    ICI Pakistan Ltd.

    Hi,
there is no separate Tcode for 3.5 environment... but in RSA1 itself they give 3.X functionality also.. So, if you want to follow the 3.5 procedure you can go thru that... in the Infosource tab--> select your info area -->and right clcik it.. ->in that create INFOSOURCE 3.X.. for that just right clcik ur CUBE or DSO and --> Additional functions --> Update Rules.. and like that you can follow the same procedure which you done in 3.5..
and for data loading in BI 7.0 from fla file means
fisrt create one Cube or DSO with the same structure which you have in flatfile..
    and activate it..
->now comes to Datasource tab> create one Datasource here you need to select type of data for example.. select Transactional data --> and menntion your flatfile name in extraction tab- and file type and eneter your info object names in FIELDS tab --> and load preview data Activate it..
now select your datasource and create info package and schedule it.. now your data will loded in to PSA level...
    > and now comes to info provider select your cube.. and right clcik it.. and create transformations.,. and activate it..
    > and create DTP -- Activate it.. and Execute it..
1)Create datasource. Here u can set/check the Soucre System fields.
2)Create Transformation for that datasource. (no more update rules/transfer rules)
2.1) While creating transformation for DS it will ask you for data target name, so just assign where u want to update ur data.
    DataSource -> Transformation -> (DTP)-->Data Target
Now if you want to load data into data target from Source System Datasource:
    1) Create infopackage for that data source. If you are creating infopackage for new datasources, it will only allow you update upto PSA, all other options u can see as disabled.
2)Now Create DTP (Data Transfer Process) for that data source.
    3) NOw schdule the Infopackage, once the data is loaded to PSA, you can execute your DTP which will load data to data target.
Data Transfer Process (DTP) is now used to load data using the dataflow created by the Transformation. Here's how the DTP data load works:
    1) Load InfoPackage
    2) Data gets loaded into PSA (hence why PSA only is selected)
    3) DTP gets "executed"
    4) Data gets loaded from PSA into the data target once the DTP has executed
    1) Create a data source
    RSA1->Source Systems->FILE(File)->PC_FILE(Filesourcesystem)->Create Application Component(optional)-Create Data source
    2) Create the data provider
    3) Create Transformation
Right click on the data provider, choose 'create transformation' and choose your data source (give relevant data source and its type)
Just connect the relavant fields between your data source and data provider.
    4) Create DTP
Then Double click on the DTP node created under yous transformations. choose the extraction mode
    5) Load the data: there are 2 ways:
you can run the infopackage and DTP separately or create a process chain consisting of these infopackage and DTP and run.

  • On excel sheet upload read the workbook and populate data to sharepoint list

    Requirement in my current project:
In a document library when I upload an excel sheet, a specific workbook has to be read and the contents have to be uploaded to a sharepoint custom list.

                    System.Diagnostics.EventLog.WriteEntry("ExcelUpload", "finally block");
Is this the only approach to meet this requirement or is there any other way to crack it. sharepoint techies please help me.

as you described the scenario of the event that it should happen when user upload excel to a document library. Event Receiver is your best bet. However if you would have a requirement that users can send excel files any time to a network file location and
you want to pick it, read it and create list items etc. You would write a sharepoint timer job that would run every 10 minute to check for file and if available on the network drive, perform the operation etc. so that users who send excel file does not need
to come to the sharepoint etc. You can see that you have Event Receivcer option or Timer job option OR you would write a console application to trigger the code at a scheduled time on sharepoint server etc. so you are using the event receiver in the correct
    scenario.

  • Excel Workbook with Excel Data Model stored on SharePoint - daily refresh

I'm not sure if this is exactly the right forum but I'm hoping that someone here can either answer or point me in the right direction.
I have an Excel Workbook with an Excel Data Model.
The Excel Data Model uses SQL to contact our data warehouse and pull through data into tables.
We are storing the Workbook on a SharePoint site and viewing it using Excel Services.
The data in our data warehouse is updated daily and so I would like to refresh the workbook daily and remove the option to refresh the data in the browser.
Is this possible with a workbook that has an Excel Data Model (I've seen lots of posts that relate to workbooks with connections to tabular models).
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

  • How to link excel workbooks in Sharepoint?

I have a master Excel spreadsheet and other sub excel spreadsheets (all on Sharepoint) that are linked to each other (copied data from one and pasted link to other) so that the Master spreadsheet auto-updates every time a sub document is modified. This
format works if the documents are hosted on my computer, however, the links become broken if they are hosted on Sharepoint and I get a #REF! message. My goal is to have a master document that is linked to data of other sub spreadsheets and auto-updates when
they are modified without having to open the sub spreadsheets. I would like to be able to open the master document, refresh it, and have the current data pulled from the linked sub spreadsheets. Any suggestions on how I can do this?

I have seen this working for some folks in my company. They moved their spreadsheets into SharePoint, and changed the references to other spreadsheets from file paths to be the urls of the items in SharePoint.
