Hi Varun,
do you want to copy or move the files??
Also can you explain the time when this movement should happen? this gives a little insight on the problem and also some optimum solutions can be suggested

    I am new with iMac and I am trying to copy some file from my external HDD that a used with my PC but it does not let me also I can't delete anything from this HDD using the finder. Can somebody help me , please?

    No, unfortunately, when you format a drive, it will erase all the contents. So you will need to find a temporary "storage" place to put the stuff using a PC so you have access to it. Then reformat using Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities). If only using with mac, format Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and use GUID Partition scheme under Partitions/Options. After formatting, you can drag the files back.

  • Can you copy/paste files from the Finder to Mail in Lion, or drag them onto the Mail icon in the Dock to create a new message and attach the files to it?

    Message title says it: Can you copy/paste files from the Finder to Mail in Lion, or drag them onto the Mail icon in the Dock to create a new message and attach the files to it?
    I can't find anything in the Knowledge Base that says these two options no longer work or still do.
    I do not have a system capable of running Lion, but I need to know the answer nonetheless.

    Gee, I don't know: "paste attachments mail Lion"? ;-)
    One further question, if I may: in Panther (which is where I've aggregated nearly 7 years of mail), if you copy more than one file in the Finder, switch to Mail, and paste the files into a new message, only the file names paste in. If you copy one file and paste it into a Mail message, you get the file, not just the name. Is that still true, or has that (IMHO) bug been fixed since 10.3.9?

    Trying to copy ANY file from my MacBook Pro to an external hard drive spins for 45 minutes then fails. I hate this computer and WISH I never would have wasted my money. Any ideas? WD My Passport 2TB Drive, had to buy a program to make the POS read files. Copies that would take seconds from a Windows based machine never complete. I have to close the transfer or shut off the machine half the time. Worst computer I have EVER owned, crashes non-stop, constantly freezes, and seems like EVERY operation is more complicated with this thing. Literally, my 1997 Compaq was FAR MORE reliable and user friendly.

    This is one of the messages I keep getting; The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in -- File Whatever -- can’t be read or written.(Error code -36)
    I have copied things to the hard drive in the past, but it has always been incredibly slow, and now just seems to freeze and fail

    When copying raw files from Extreme IV card to hardrive, finder copies a few files then exits task and wipes the card clean of all images.  Have tried new card and card-reader to no avail.  Have done this many times on other macs with no problems.
    Can edit files off the card, in CameraRaw, prior to 'copying' them, ie can 'save as' to the hard drive, so files seem okay on card, before I try to copy them using copy and paste.
    Running OS 10.8.3 on a new macbook pro.

    Rita,
    The process for determining what is causing the files to be corrupt can be a tedious one depending on the following:
    1. Can you review the images on your camera's LCD screen without problems? If not then the problem is most probably either a corrupted/faulty memory card or a faulty camera. If this is the case then your best bet at recovery (of sorts) is to use a program such as BrezzeBrowser from BreezeSys to extract the embedded jpeg versions of the corrupted RAW files from within each RAW file. Chances are, you won't manage to actually repair the corrupted RAW file but the jpegs are better than nothing.
    2. If the images review ok on your camera but are corrupted when viewing on your computer and there seems to be no other problem with other files on your computer then it may be either a faulty card reader or usb/firewire cable between the card reader and the computer that is the culprit. Try the card reader with a different cable and also try a different card reader to determine the cause of the corruption.
    3. If your symptoms are that you get different files corrupting over time when viewing them on your computer then the problem may be any one of either failing RAM memory, hard disk, hard disk controller or IDE/SATA hard disk cables. This is where the troubleshooting can be pretty tedious testing then eliminating each item from the list of suspicious pieces of hardware. Try the card and card reader on an altogether different computer to see if the files transfer correctly to that computer. If so then the problem lies with your computer hardware. If you haven't already done so at this stage, backup all your important data immediately (hopefully you keep backs anyway).
    Hope this helps.

  • UDF to capture the source file name or the source folder for mapping

    Hi All,
    i have 2 files -  File1 from File2 from 2 different folders- single comm channel FTP (FCC). i have to pass a constant A and B respectively to a field in target structure.
    my options are -
    either create a new field in source str populating different constants and  then map to the target str
    or a udf to get the source file name or the source folder so that i can map the constant using the value mapping/FixValue mapping.
    please suggest. thanks.
    rajib

    Hi,
    please use the UDF to determine the file name. Then based on file name either pass A or B to your target field.
    The code is as given below. Just tweak the code to pass either A or B as per your requirement.
    public String G_GetFileName(Container container) throws StreamTransformationException{
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","FileName");
    String ourSourceFileName = conf.get(key);
    return  ourSourceFileName;

    Hi,
    The D810 requires Camera Raw 8.6 or later - the latest version that is compatible with Photoshop Elements 12 is Camera Raw 8.5 as far as I can see.
    You need to either buy a new version of Photoshop Elements or use the free Adobe DNG converter.

  • Batch file extracting all files from nested archives

    I have managed to leverage a powerful
    forfiles command line utility with the mighty
    7z compression program.
    Below is a simple batch file extracting all files from nested archives hidden at any depth inside other archives and/or folders. After the extraction each archive file turns into a folder having the archive file name. If, for example, there was an "outer.rar"
    archive file containing nothing but an "inner.zip" archive with only "afile.txt" inside, "outer.rar" becomes "...\outer.rar\inner.zip\afile.txt" file system path.
    @echo off
    rem extract_nested_archives.bat
    move %1 "%TMP%"\%2
    md %2
    7z x -o%1 -y %TMP%\%2
    del "%TMP%"\%2
    for %%a in (zip rar jar z bz2 gz gzip tgz tar lha iso wim cab rpm deb) do forfiles /P %1 /S /M *.%%a /C "cmd /c if @isdir==FALSE extract_nested_archives.bat @path @file"
    ARCHIVES ARE DELETED DURING THE EXTRACTION! Make a copy before running the script!
    "7z.exe" and "extract_nested_archives.bat" should be in folders available via the %PATH% environment variable.
    The first parameter of extract_nested_archives.bat is the full path name of the archive or folder that should be fully expanded; the second parameter is just the archive or folder name without the path. So you should run "c:\temp\extract_nested_archives.bat
    c:\temp\outer.rar outer.rar" from the command line to completely expand "outer.rar". "c:\temp" must be the current folder.
    Best regards, 0x000000AF

    Incredibly useful!  Thank you so much.  I did make a couple of small changes to make the script a little easier to use from the end-user perspective.
    First - I don't like making the user input the redundant second parameter, so I added this snippet which extracts it from the first parameter.  The first line of the snippet enables delayed expansion so that special characters in our file name don't
    break anything.  The second line pulls the parameter into a variable, and the 3rd line uses delayed expansion on that new variable.  Before implementing delayed expansion I had problems with file paths which included parentheses.
    SetLocal EnableDelayedExpansion
    Set SOURCE=%1
    For %%Z in (!source!) do (
    set FILENAME=%%~nxZ
    set FILENAME=%FILENAME:"=%
    Anyway once that was done, I just used %FILENAME% everywhere in the script instead of
    %2 (making sure to correct quotes as needed)
    This way, to run my script all you need to run is:
    C:\temp\extract_nested_archives.bat C:\temp\Archive.zip
    Second - I didn't want to modify the Windows environment variable.  So I replaced
    7z with "%PROGRAMFILES%\7-zip\7z.exe"
    I also replaced extract_nested_archives.bat with "%~f0" (which represents the full path+filename of the current script).
    Here is my full script now.  Tested on Windows 8 with the 64-bit version of 7-zip installed:
    @echo off
    Setlocal EnableDelayedExpansion
    Set source=%1
    For %%Z in (!source!) do (
    set FILENAME=%%~nxZ
    set FILENAME=%FILENAME:"=%
    move /Y %1 "%TMP%\%FILENAME%"
    md "%FILENAME%"
    "%PROGRAMFILES%\7-zip\7z.exe" x -o%1 -y "%TMP%\%FILENAME%"
    DEL "%TMP%\%FILENAME%"
    for %%a in (zip rar jar z bz2 gz gzip tgz tar lha iso wim cab rpm deb) do (
    forfiles /P %1 /S /M *.%%a /C "cmd /c if @isdir==FALSE "%~f0" @path @file"

  • How can I copy mp3 files from my Itunes library to an SD card for use in a non-apple phone?

    How can I copy mp3 files from my Itunes library to an SD card for use in a non-apple phone?  I can physically copy the tunes as mp3's but the phone does not seem to be able to play all of them.   Do I need to copy an entire album or can I just pick & choose individual songs?   The phone is question is an LG running who knows what for an operating system.

    AAC is Advanced Audio Coding.  Basically it's a format that sounds better than MP3 but doesn't take up as much space as a lossless format (like you'd have on a CD).  More than likely you've had that encoding turned on when you ripped your music into itunes (it's the default encoder).  Therefore your LG phone won't play them.
    You need to turn off the AAC format by going to the iTunes menu, Preferences, General (at the top), then clicking the "Import Preferences" button.  Change the AAC Encoder to MP3 Encoder.  After that you'll have to make MP3 copies of your songs by right clicking them and selecting "Create MP3 Version."  You'll get a copy of the song that should transfer to your SD card and have MP3 encoding.  Hopefully your phone will play that.

  • Copy a file from URL to local HDD

    Hi,
    I've got 2 problems:
    1. I'm an absolute beginner and an german-speaking user of this forum
    2. I want to copy a file from within a signed applet (with full access permissions) from a URL on the server to a local directory on the client. It works with .txt or .ini files, but not with .dll or .exe. The .exe file has only 1KB instead of the 5MB and contains only something like "-1". Help!!
    Here's what i made:
    URL updateurl = new URL(getCodeBase() + "testfile.exe");
    InputStream in = updateurl.openStream();
    FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream("C:\\temp\\testfile.exe");
    byte[] buf = new byte[4096];
    int len;
    while ((len = in.read(buf)) > 0)
         out.write(buf, 0, len);
    out.close();
    in.close();
    Thanks for any help!

    From looking at the code I can't see any blatant errors.
    The only thing I can think of, is: is your code wrapped by a try/catch block which you are ignoring?
    The reason I ask, is that maybe you are not downloading the file you intended in the first place. The reason I think this is because of the line:
    URL updateurl = new URL(getCodeBase() + "testfile.exe");Shoudn't there be a separator between getCodeBase() and testfile.exe? Only a guess, since getCodeBase may already return the separator.

  • Copy a file from hard disk to a jar

    Is there any way to copy a file from hard disk to a jar file?

    hajani wrote:
    No, I want to copy a file into an other jar file (like a zip or a rar file)
    Edited by: hajani on Dec 7, 2008 4:11 AMIf you really do mean 'jar' file an not 'zip' or 'rar' then you can use class java.util.jar.JarFile and write your own code. If you don't feel like writing a load of code then and you can guarantee that the 'jar' executable is going to be available then you could use Runtime.exec() or it's cousin ProcessBuilder. If you mean a 'zip' file then you could use class java.util.zip.ZipFile and write a load of code. If you mean a 'rar' file then you will either have to find a 'rar' class library or again use Runtime.exec().

  • Copying a file from Cd/Dvd to MacBookPro?!

    Hi,
    I have got a MacBook Pro 2.33 and when I try to copy a file from cd or dvd ( let's say a movie about 700Mb) it takes about 20 minutes!! and furher if I try to open an app. during the copy it jump for a long time in the dock and when finally the app. appears it works very very slow. It's normal such behavoir or I have got some problems with my Mac?
    Thanks

    That is not normal. It is a multithreading operating system. Sounds like either your hard drive is overfull, or your RAM might be bad, or the Spotlight index hasn't completed, or you have too many active widgets, the directory is damaged, a bad peripheral needs an updated driver, or if you migrated from a PowerPC Mac to an Intel Mac you used Migration Assistant. The latter is not recommended because old PowerPC drivers and plugins can slow down your system. This is how I'd migrate from PowerPC to Intel:

  • After copying a file from NTFS to HFS volume, file size changed when viewing in Windows

    Hi guys,
    I have a Mac Air running Mavericks on a HFS partition and Windows 7 on a BOOTCAMP NTFS partition. I have some files that I want to read/write from/to both systems. Since OS X can't write NTFS and Windows can't write HFS either, and I don't want to use any 3rd-party tools/drivers, I have to adopt a "stupid" way: in OS X, I copy those files from NTFS to its HFS partition, make changes, then switch to Windows and sync them back to NTFS.
    The problem is, after I copied a file from NTFS to HFS in OS X, it seemed ok. But when I switched to Windows, the very copied file in HFS partition had its size changed (bigger) although I didn't make any changes to it in OS X yet. This happens to almost every file I copied, text and binary. For those text files, I tried to open it with EditPlus in Windows and EditPlus reports the correct size on the status bar.
    How could this happen?

    I am not sure if this is what your seeing but...
    The same unaltered file on two different volumes might use different amounts of disk space. This is because a 'disk' is divided in to 'blocks' and a block (also historically known as a 'sector') is a certain minimum size. So if disk-1 has a block size of 512 bytes and disk-2 has a block size of 1024 bytes then a file containing just 10 bytes will use up twice as much space on disk-2 as disk-1 even though it is the exact same file.
    Beyond that, Macs can add additional information like Spotlight tags, labels, icons, etc. which make a file bigger. If you are modifying a file then presumably that also implies adding additional content e.g. for a Word document more text and this will make it bigger. Also depending on some programs are configured or designed 'deleting' text may only mark it as deleted and not really delete. This can apply to older versions of Word which has a 'Fast Save' feature, new versions have removed this and do a proper delete.
    You would have to give more details like what you are doing to the document, what kind of document, and what the two sizes are.
    Finally, there is one other potential difference, some systems and manufacturers use 1024 as a unit for measuring file and disk sizes, some use 1000. It will be the same number of bytes in each case but 1000 bytes in one case would exactly equal 1MB, and in the other it would be 0.9765MB.

  • How to copy a file from one folder to another folder in Linux

    Hello everyone,
    Oracle forms 11g 11.1.2.0.0
    OS: Oracle Linux
    We use webutil to upload files to the application server from the client machine, and stores them in a folder named JOB_DOCS on the application server (This folder is created as a databse directory too). File types are JPEG, GIF, PDF, TXT, BMP, DOC, XLS etc...
    At a later stage when the user tries to view the uploaded documents, this was not getting displayed on the screen
    on our windows server, when the user clicks on the print button we copy the file from the JOB_DOCS folder to the forms\java folder using the below command
    HOST('COPY ' ||d:\JOB_DOCS\test.pdf||' '||'c:\oracle\middleware\as\forms\java\test.pdf ,NO_SCREEN);
    once the file is under the forms\java folder then it is getting displayed on the screen to print or save, and later we remove the file from forms\java folder.
    But my problem here is, recently we have installed our application on Oracle Linux server, and we have JOB_DOCS folder there, and the users can upload files to this folder also. How can we copy the file test.pdf from JOB_DOCS to forms/java in linux?
    And what could be the reson for the document cannot be accessed from the folder where it is saved? We tried giving folder permissions, adding the folder to PATH variable etc.

    For copying and moving directories you can use the cp and mv commands just like you use them with files. Yeah, I know. If you've already tried to copy a directory with cp, you've probably noticed that cp just complains at you. Probably it says something like cp: omitting directory yadda yadda. You see, the cp command wants you to use the -r option if you want to copy a directory with its contents. The -r means "copy recursively":
    $ cp -r dir1 dir2
    The above creates a directory named dir2 whose contents will be identical to dir1. However, if dir2 already exists, nothing will be overwritten: the directory dir1 will be copied into the dir2 directory under the name dir2/dir1.
    When renaming directories, you use the mv command exactly the same way as with files:
    $ mv dir1 dir2
    When dealing with directories, mv works a bit like cp does. If dir2 doesn't exist, the above will rename dir1 to dir2, but if dir2 exists, the directory dir1 will be moved into the dir2 directory under the name dir2/dir1.
