UIPicker Behavior & Font Size

When I've use UIPicker the font sizes are always smaller and not bold for my lists compared to the larger and bolded fonts for UIDatePicker. There appears to be no way to change the size or boldness by any method.
So when I create a custom picker and use a UILabel for the view (instead of just returning a string) with the font set bigger and bolder, it looks as I wish and it has the same behavior of pickers (spinning the wheel, tapping any unselected item causes it to be selected) BUT with one annoying feature. The picker view (and I don't think its the label because I turn off user interaction), highlights in BLUE. I can't find a way to make this disappear.
So then I followed the sample in UICatalog for a custom picker that uses a custom view into the picker. That all goes fine (no blue highlight when selected with big bold fonts) but, even in the sample app, when you tap one of the unselected items, that item is not automatically selected (as it is with the date pickers and the regular picker and using a picker with a label).
So, is there any way to increase font size and boldness for picker items and keep the standard behaviors?
Or, how can you eliminate the blue highlight when using a label view in a picker?
Or, how can you get the behavior of tapping an item and having it selected when creating a picker as in the UICatalog sample?
Thanks for any tips.

Thanks for thinking about this.
I've made the embedded labels half the width of the picker component and made their background red and when the row highlights, it's NOT the label (which stays red), it's the entire width of the component row behind the red label that turns blue and fades. So, I am 98% sure that this is a tableview with viewcells that are set to highlight to blue instead of none (and that scroll to the middle under the selection indicator).
I don't know how to access EVERY cell in a component to change the property for each or why when a label is added the behavior changes.
Still looking.

  • Report viewer is not printing the exact font size format if the application is run through virtual machine or RDP.

    Hi good day!,
I'm still having this problem with the font size format of my report, although I already installed this hotfix at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2768741/en-us, if I run the application using RDP or virtual machine. Anyway, I'm using VS2010 with sql server
2012 express through windows 7. Actually, I tried to search for a new and updated hotfix version but having no luck,:) since i'm not good at it (google search).:)
So, I need help on how to fix this problem.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi JJorheim,
Thanks for the link that you had given. Actually, Previewing the report on an RDP or VM environment is not a problem at all because it yields smooth result based on the report design. The problem only exist if print button icon of the report viewer is pressed
which results to a magnified font size printout. I think it is a rendering problem a somewhat default behavior of a report viewer print method. So one of the remedy is to adjust the resolution of an RDP or VM to 1024x768
(4:3 ratio) as suggested by the others, which momentarily solve this problem but not necessarily the other way around.
Anyway, thanks again for the reply.

  • CR XI R2 pdf export font size issue

Exporting a report to PDF using Crystal XI R2 seems to be reducing the size of the fonts. When printing directly from CR and exporting to PDF and printing from the PDF viewer the font sizes are smaller. Any ideas on what I can do to correct the problem?

    Please refer following SAP note:
Business Objects Notes Get Help | Close
1220516 - Font size decreases when report is exported to PDF from Crystal Reports XI or Crystal Reports XI Release 2
Language   English     Version   1     Validity: 07.05.2008 - active
Edit Print View Show change log Show Internal Memos
Content:    Summary   |   Header Data   |   Other Properties
    Symptom
In Crystal Reports XI and Crystal Reports XI Release 2 the font shrinks by approximately 10% when a report is exported to Adobe Acrobat Format (PDF).
    Cause
This behavior is due to the way Windows and UNIX, and therefore Crystal Reports, handles low point size fonts on a low-resolution screen. Text layout in the absence of a printer driver will consistently be rendered differently than in PDF.
Crystal Reports currently shrinks the font by 10% to prevent any truncation this difference may cause.
    Resolution
CAUTION The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall the Microsoft Windows operating system. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk. It is strongly recommended that you make a backup copy of the registry files before you edit the registry. For information on how to edit the registry key, view the 'Changing Keys And Values' online Help topic in the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
    To resolve the behavior
Set the resolution of the default printer of the local computer experiencing the issue to 1200 DPI. Most printers have a default setting of 600 DPI.
Create two registry keys to prevent the crxf_pdf.dll from decreasing in font size.
Click Start > Run. Type "regedit". The Registry Editor appears.
Create the following keys for Crystal Reports XI with the defined values:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
    Type: DWORD
    Recognized Values: 0,1
    Default Value: 1
    Creation Method: manual
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
    Type: DWORD
    Recognized Values: 0,1
    Default Value: 1
    Creation Method: manual
Set both registry key values to 1 to turn them on.
Create the following keys for Crystal Reports XI Release 2 with the defined values:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal Reports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
    Type: DWORD
    Recognized Values: 0,1
    Default Value: 1
    Creation Method: manual
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal eports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
    Type: DWORD
    Recognized Values: 0,1
    Default Value: 1
    Creation Method: manual
Set both registry key values to 1 to turn them on.
In UNIX, an X server client such as x-win32 must be installed. Add the keys as follows:
    Launch the X server client.
    Source <bobje install>/bobje/setup using env.sh (for example: ./env.sh).
Create the registry keys as detailed above.
Restart the Report Page and Cache Servers.
    ====================
    NOTES:
If using Windows 2003 Server, upgrade to Acrobat Reader version 8.0 or higher as well as creating the above registry keys.
Use the appropriate path to access the UNIX regedit as follows:
    AIX: <bobje install>/bobje/enterprise115/aix_rs6000/crpe/mw/bin-aix4_optimized/regedit
    Sun Solaris: <bobje install>/bobje/enterprise115/solaris_sparc/crpe/mw/bin-sunos5_optimized/regedit

  • Change font size in Skype?

Hello skype users, someone could help me how to change the size of fonts on Skype? Its default font is smaller and I almost can not see it. Thank you.

Just because you don't like the fact you can't change the set font in the program, you are calling that program not compatible with Windows?  Your conclusion is extremely flawed.  I have Visual Studio installed on my computer and I can make Windows applications until the end of time that don't react to Ctrl or Scroll wheel changes, that does not make those applications incompatible with Windows.  It's not as native as you think it is.  Fixed/set fonts are chosen in some  programs to ensure the program provides the same experience, look, and feel for all users.  So while some font adjustments would be nice,  some automatic adjustments like in Skype 6.7, can prove to be disastrous.
My font/DPI scaling is set to 100%.  The majority of my displays are set to their max of 1080p and I've never felt the need to lower my resolution in order to use Skype.   The only time I've seen changes in the contact window font size is due to the font/dpi scaling in Windows being set to a value other than 100%.  I do know in Skype 6.7 it reacted to those changes but the outcome was not very pleasant.  Though I haven't tested it, I don't believe this occurs in Skype 6.9 unless the new "Accessibility mode" or some other intentional setting I'm unaware of, triggers that behavior.
If you feel the need to zoom the window you could always use the Windows magnifier (Win Key and +).  That will allow you to zoom a section of your desktop or the whole desktop rather easily using the plus, minus and escape keys.

  • Font size in Preview

    Hi,
For some reason, or not, I cannot make font sizes larger with the Apple key + combination. I can make the font size smaller with Apple key - but not larger with Apple key +.
Why? The text is NOT at its largest size. I can make things larger by going to the menu and choosing that option.

I think it's just a little weirdness present in some apps but not in others. In most of the browsers, Apple key + does increase the text size. But, for some reason, Text Edit is different. If you look at the keys, you can find a justification for this behavior, but not a real explanation.
Take the "minus" key. You get the "-" symbol without shifting. This makes the text smaller.
Then look at the "plus" key. You must shift to actually get the "+" symbol.
I do not know why the behavior is not consistent with all apps.

    Steve M.

  • Export to PDF changing font size

    Hi,
I have gone through the posts on this topic and was wondering if anyone has a formula to predict what will happen to the text or what looks best in PDF?
I am using Arial 10,11 and 12 on some reports and Times New Roman 8, 9, 10 and 11 on others.
The worst effect is that all reports have a group of text boxes on the top right hand corner which have borders.
The reports are basically text documents so have lots of word wrapped text.  In CR these paragraphs are close to the right hand edge in line with the text boxes at the top.
In PDF the right hand edge of the paragraph moves in by 3-4cms.  Setting the paragraph to Justify rather than left Justify keeps it at the right, but has lots of white space which looks bad.

  • CF8 cfdocuments new bugs (font size, bold, underline...)

    Hi
I face the following problems after upgrading from CF 7.0.2
    to CF8 + Cumulative Hotfix 1 :
    - bold and underline generates white space around them if
they are embedded in a sentence (i.e "this is bold text
    </bod> and it is fun")
    - font size behavior has changed, the text is now bigger. (My
font-size: 12px is bigger than before)
    - when reducing it (i.e font-size: 11px) the bold/underline
problem becomes the opposite : instead of white space, I have
    overlapping texts.
We use a html 4.01 transitional doctype and CSS styles (i.e
div class="myclass" and .myclass{..} in a separate css file)
    Any suggestion ?

  • Font-size rule in table

    Hello,
I am having trouble understanding why a CSS rule isn't making it into a table. Here is an example:
    http://alumweb.mit.edu/clubs/pugetsound.pages/table-experiment.html
The stylesheet associated with this page has a rule for body that specifies a font-size of 12px. None of the containing div's has a rule that would override this. As a consequence, the two lines of text not inside the table (the "outside world" lines) are rendered at 12px. However, for some reason, the text inside the table is not; it looks like it renders at 16px. I don't understand why this is so. I don't think there are any rules in the stylesheet that should cause this. Needless to say, I would like the text inside the table to use the same text-size as the rest of the body!
Although consistent with how the page behaves in a browser, the behavior of Dreamweaver (I'm using CS4) seems strange as well. If I click in text outside the table, the CSS Styles palette shows the values I expect--the correct font-family, font-size, line-height, and color values (from the body rule), and text-align (from the #containerMain rule). However, when I click in text inside the table (for example, in "world"), the only property shown in the "Summary for Selection" area in the palette is the font-family, and the lower part of the palette (in this case, labeled "Properties for 'body'", all the property names are lined-through except font-family. Even more confounding, Dreamweaver does not offer an explanation for why some of the properties (including font-size) are not applied. In other words, if I hover over the lined-through background-color, a tooltip appears explaining why it doesn't apply, but if I hover over font-size, no tooltip appears.
I'd really like to understand why this is happening, not just find a workaround. I'm happy to provide additional information if needed. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    thanks!
    --Dave

Yes! That did the trick! I didn't even notice that it was such an old doctype; luckily, just had to make the change in the base template. Thank you so much, sir!

  • Minimum Font Size doesn't work

I've set Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size to 10 pt, but when I use Zoom Out, I get smaller fonts: The relation between font sizes on a page is kept.
What I want is FF 1.5 behavior: Minimum Font Size is honored even on Zoom Out, which results in shrinking the headlines only and finally ending with all Text in the same size after some repetitions of Zoom Out.
I have disabled Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above".
I have set Minimum Font Size for several encodings, but maybe the reason for the current behavior is a missing UTF-8 setting in the Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > "Fonts for" listbox ? Most pages including this support.mozilla.com use that encoding.

Main Menu -> View -> Zoom -> Zoom Text Only

  • Font size changes when exporting

    Hi all,
When i do an RTF export of my report i found that some text has got a different size from the original font size given during design. i had given the font size as 11 during design but when i export as RTF it is shown as 10.5
When i export the same report as an editable RTF the fontsize is 11.
    An thoughts on this?

For some export types - RTF and PDF included - the fonts are decreased by some amount, to prevent cut-off issues.  It's expected default behavior.

  • Table font size changes when I set other font property

I had anomalous behavior in a VI i wrote so I did the following to troubleshoot it.  Can anybody explain what's going on?
I created a table indicator and changed the font size to 36 for a 5x5 area cells using mouse-drag-select and the front panel "Xpt Application Font" dropdown.  I changed one of the rows to font=strikeout using the same front panel dropdown.    I then used the FOR loops and properties as below to change the stikeout property to FALSE for all 5 rows.  Running the VI caused the font size of all of the text to change, even though the CellFontSize property was not set anywhere in the VI.  I manually set the font sizes to 36 again and subsequent runs of the the VI did not affect the font sizes.

I did not attach the code because after it runs it is "fixed".  The FOR loop I described is easy enough to recreate but it seems there was an issue with the image in the first post so I've attached it here (rather than try again to include it in the message).

  • Font size in email folder view

I'm hoping that someone out there has figured out the solution to this problem. I have an IMAP email account synced to my iPhone - and I have my emails organised into folders, which are also synced across.
That's all great, but I find that I can only read part of the folder names once I get one or two levels down the folder tree. Is there anyway to decrease the font size in the email folder view so the whole folder names can be seen? If not, anyone have any other bright ideas for a workaround?
    Thanks, guys!

Well, when it is happening it happens to all emails in the email app. The behavior is very strange. Again, it's as if all the emails are zoomed out. The only way to fix it that I can see is to hold the power button down and reboot the phone. When it comes back up it's normal....for awhile. I haven't figured out what triggers the behavior.
