UIX application and pocket pc emulator

Hi
I've developing an UIX application for pocket pc.
How can i test this on pocket pc emulator?
Which are the setting of JDEV and Pocket pc IE to do this test?
Thank for your help,
Andrea.

We hope eventually to be able to let you launch an emulator from jdev, but for now there is no emulator which is hooked into jdev. You'll need to install, configure, and start up the ppc emulator yourself. Then once you've written your page you can run the uix page, which will bring it up in a regular browser. Then use the same address in the browser, which should be something like "http://ip-address:8988/workspace-name-context-root/pagename.uix" in the ppc emulator browser to look at the page.

    Andrea -
I don't believe that you need to set any UIX properties to enable mobile rendering. Simply access your application from a Pocket PC device. UIX should detect that the device is a Pocket PC based on the agent information in the HTTP request, and will automatically generate the appropriate content.

  • UIX Buttons and HTML Buttons

    Hi all,
I'm creating a UIX application, and I don't want to use the icons for UIX buttons. It's not that I have another custom icon--I just want to render them as HTML <input type="submit">.
I know I could mock up an HTML button as an image and use a custom LAF to do the substitution...but that seems like overkill; it seems like it'd be pretty pointless for users to have to download an image that their browsers are perfectly capable of producing.
Is there any way I can use a snippet of HTML instead of an image to render buttons in UIX?
    Thanks much,
    Avrom

    Erm...oh dear. Never mind.
The answer, for anyone who was curious, is just to extend minimal desktop, instead of a heavier desktop.
Although I'd still be curious...if I had wanted to use some of the standard UIX UI widgets but not others, and I'd wanted to use HTML (rather than fancy images) for the others, could I have done so?

  • Anyone using Pocket PC Emulator?

I'm trying to use Pocket PC Emulator, but whenever I try to run it, my computer reboots.
I have a Dell Dimension 4550 running Windows XP.
Anyone else managed to get it running?

    Hi,
I have come across your name on the developers network at Sun. My name is Oscar and I am working on my thesis in computing science.
I will be doing a PDA application in Java and I have just started to search the web for info on how to get started. I have got a book, Java development on PDAs, which I have started reading. I have also read comments by you and a few others on the subject. The last one was from you on the 26th of august last year. In this you said you ad a link that you would post. Since this was the last post I figured I would write you to ask for it.
I have thougt about coding in Eclipse, since it has built in support for cvs and supports larger projects. I then would like a PocketPC emulator for the time I am sitting at home. At school I can get PDAs to test on, but not at home.
I would be ever so grateful for any help on how to set up a working environment.
    Sincerely,
    Oscar

  • Can i open lvm file in a Pocket PC emulator?

Hi all, can i open lvm/xls file in a Pocket PC emulator? I keep getting an error msg...
    Thanx!

I was wrong.  It does not appear that PocketExcel will open an LVM file, at least not in Windows Mobile 2003 on my Dell Axim X50v.  However, there is a fairly easy workaround, if you have a copy of Excel (or OpenOffice, which is free).  Open the LVM file in Excel, save as an Excel binary (XLS) file, then drag the Excel file to your synch folder.  ActiveSync will convert the XLS file to pocket Excel format on transfer.  You can then open it in PocketExcel.  You can use ActiveX to save directly to an XLS file, or use the report toolkit to make your life a bit easier.
It is possible that you can do this, since I am a fairly new Windows Mobile user.  I tried a simple copy of the LVM file and tried changing the file extension to .txt.  I could not get PocketExcel to even look at it, although, as you mentioned, Pocket Word opened it with no problem.  Diving into the documentation did not help much either.  If anyone else having a bit more experience has a better solution, I would love to hear it.

  • Java web service and pocket pc

Hi all. I am looking for some advice on how best to go about the following. I have looked on the internet and found info on relevent parts, but not sure how to interact them all together.
I want to develop an application for a pocket pc (probably windows mobile 5.0) that will interact with a web service(in java). The pocket pc will send some sort of authentication to the service, which will then query a database and send the relevent information back to pocket pc.
I have read things on SOAP, WSDL and AJAX etc... but am unsure how to put them all together.
If anyone has any advice, good tutorials or links then they are greatly appreciated.
    Regards

Hi all. I am looking for some advice on how best to
go about the following. I have looked on the
internet and found info on relevent parts, but not
sure how to interact them all together.Join the crowd :-) For most of this stuff, it seems we're ALL finding our way around.
I have read things on SOAP, WSDL and AJAX etc... but
am unsure how to put them all together. That's kind of like asking "how long is a piece of rope?" It depends on what you need it for.
Try w3schools.org for some great tutorials on some of the underlying technologies that power the above.
SOAP is nice and all if you want to use third-party libraries and you need industry-standard interactivity (for example with vendors or customers), but if you're doing everything in-house (i.e. your own application will consume the web service you wrote) then I'd seriously consider REST-based webservices. They're easier to write because you're free from the limitations of SOAP, and your apps can be smaller and with fewer parts.
Screw WSDL. Use it only if you are forced to. Axis has a great WSDL generator and if you can deploy everything in Axis, then you're good to go. I started writing my webservices using Axis and WSDL->Java generators and I was all cool and stuff because I was doing what everyone said was the best way to write these new applications. It took me a while to realize that most of that advice was coming from the people that were writing the software the real applications were based on, not using the stuff they had written to build real apps with. The perspective is completely different.
Then I had to maintain that mess and it wasn't worth it because all of my uses for webservices are internal. I write the server and client portions both. There's no need to complicate the issue with technologies that are meant for interacting with other systems which you have no control over, nor any knowledge of how they're consuming the information you're providing.
As to specific documentation, that's a little harder to come by. Your best bet is to first and foremost: read the specs on w3.org. No other pieces of documentation will be as in-depth and informative as the spec. If you're using spec-compliant implementations, then you've already got all your documentation. They're dense, I agree. They take forever, I agree. But I have yet to find anything that can rival the depth of understanding I gain from the specifications. Read the specs. All of them. Download them, print them out, stuff them in a fat folder (mine's in a 3-inch binder) and keep them handy. It seems like enterprise-level webservice-enabled apps will require lots of third-party support libraries, use lots of different technologies, and the documentation required to help the developer actually use all of this stuff will become critical. That's why I say print stuff out and keep it in one spot.
If you can get any good out of these third-party libraries for generating clients, then more power to ya. I think they're a waste of time, myself, because I can write a client quicker and make it far more easy to maintain if I just do it from scratch. I'm only interested in using these technologies to make it quicker, more effiicient, easier to maintain, etc... be careful you don't get carried away with the vastly divergent advice you'll get on how to build your app and end up making it much more complicated and harder to maintain than it would have been had you not used industry-standard methodologies. Think small and simple.
To get started, I would get a really good XML IDE. I use oxygen (http://www.oxygenxml.com). Version 7 is out, which has XQuery debugging and lots of other stuff. Have your company buy it. It's worth it. (has eclipse integration too). Then download Sarissa: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sarissa it's a great cross-browser javascript library for doing AJAX stuff. We use it for our AJAX applications and it's great. Fairly well documented too. Then use as much client-side processing as you can get away with because with webservices, your XML processing will hammer the server. Our IBM dual 3GHz/8GB RAM machine is chugging constantly. We process around 300,000 pages of XML in a normal business day, and it's intensive processing (lots of SQL serialization and transforms). We're trying to offload as much work to the client as we can. We're using Mozilla now, so that's making life much easier for us. Even the embedded mozillas have fantastic support for AJAX-friendly technologies.
As for putting everything together, well, you're pretty much on your own there. In our environment, we have a custom XML-based intranet portal, which I had to write myself because there's nothing out there that does what we need it to, we use Postgres as our enterprise database, JBoss as our application server, Apache as our front-end, and oh yeah, we have an AS-400 on which resides all the "real" data. Just try and find documentation on serving data via an AJAX-enabled enterprise app from data that resides on DB2/400 and generating the interface on the client using XSLT. Or how about getting data from the postgres server into an RPG program using a webservices client on the 400. I don't even think I'm supposed to be doing stuff like that, let alone be able to find documentation on a solution that someone has come up with.
Now if someone would just make a good JavaScript IDE, AJAX would take off like a bat out of hell. How long has JavaScript been around now? 10 years-ish? And how many good IDE's are there for JavaScript? Zero. Really irritates me sometimes... A good Mozilla-based AJAX-friendly JavaScript IDE would be a HUGE and I mean HUGE benefit to the webservices community.

  • LabView PDA and Pocket PC2003

I am using Pocket PC 2003 with the LabView PDA.All the documentation deals with Pocket PC 2002. Are there any changes with the Pocket PC 2003? Also I wrote a test application and downloaded to the PDA and that does not seem to execute! Is it bcos of the 2003?

I have exactly the same question. I have LabView PDA 7.0 and a Pocket PC 2003, VIs run ok on Pocket PC 2003 but the problem is when I try to run VIs that call DLLs. The ones that work perfect in Pocket PC 2002 don't work in pocket PC 2003.The DLLs were created using EVC 4.0 SP3.
    Are these incompatible?

  • WebToGo BC4J + Struts + UIX application

Is there any possibility to write a complete BC4J + Struts + UIX web application to run in the Oracle Lite platform??
The documentation says about implementing a Servlet, but is it possible to install the .jar files of the struts & uix frameworks and register the *.do & *.uix extensions? What is the specification of the HttpServlet to be implemented?
What about performance? Could this combination run in a WinXP PIV offline Laptop with reasonable performance?
Where can I find this kind of information??
    Thanks
    Eduardo

UIX is not supported in 5.0.2.x release. The next release (10g) will have complete UIX support. Beta release of 10g is already out in case you are interested in trying UIX with it.
For BC4J refer to 'Chapter 6 BC4J Tutorial' of 'Oracle9i Lite Developer’s Guide'
Limited support for Struts is there in 5.0.2.10.0 release. If you have the handler for .do extension files then you can use following:
You can add mime handler to Mobile Server for .do extension by using a ini file. Copy following lines in a file called addmime.ini
    [DATABASE]
    TYPE=ORACLE
    [MIMETYPES]
    NAME = do
    VALUE=text/html
    PLUGIN=<handler class name>
and run this ini file as following
    wsh -c addmime.ini mobileadmin/[email protected]

  • Arch64 and Android SDK Emulator issues

Hey guys. I have recently installed the newest version of Eclipse and the Android SDK. I have had to install 32-bit libs so everything runs ok, which I have successfully done. After thinking all was fine and dandy I proceeded to execute my application, in reply my console (from within Eclipse) spat out the following message:
    [2009-09-20 00:29:47 - HelloAndroid]------------------------------
    [2009-09-20 00:29:47 - HelloAndroid]Android Launch!
    [2009-09-20 00:29:47 - HelloAndroid]adb is running normally.

    [2009-09-20 00:29:47 - HelloAndroid]Launching a new emulator with Virtual Device 'my_avd'
So, as far as I was concerned I was to wait a few minutes (maybe a little longer) for the emulator to work it's magic. 20 minutes later I found myself scratching my head, wondering why the emulator hadn't booted yet. Any ideas?
If I try and run the emulator via command line independently I get the follow message:

    Segmentation fault
    Any ideas?

H4z3, I'm not sure why you are getting seg faults but, I just got everything setup for Android 2.0 development on my 64-bit driven laptop. I did the following:
    1) Downloaded Android v2.0 SDK & setup buy running
    sh %path_to_sdk%/android-sdk-linux/tools/android
Then under "Available Packages", download the SDK Platform and other APIs you want. I downloaded Android 2.0 & 1.6, Google API 5 & 4 and the documentation.
    2) Downloaded Eclipse 3.5 for EE Development from eclipse.org
    3) Installed lib32 libraries:
    sudo pacman -S lib32-libstdc++5 lib32-libx11 lib32-sdl lib32-ncurses lib32-zlib lib32-libext lib32-alsa-lib
    4) Added the ADT to Eclipse following these instructions http://developer.android.com/sdk/eclipse-adt.html
    5) I then followed the Hello World example.
    Issues noticed
    1) Clicking some of the Eclipse & Android SDK/SVD Manager buttons didn't register. I had to use the keyboard shortcuts to fully press the buttons
    2) The emulator does take a while to load. I had issues with it not loading and sucking up my CPU. But I realized that I wasn't allowing the initial run of the emulator to fully finish before I closed it. Give it a good few minutes to run before stopping it.
    I hope this helps,
    Ken

You could always reformat your external drive, as well as change its partition map style to GUID Partition Map, and then clone to that drive. Swap internal drives, boot off the external drive then clone back to the internal drive, obviously after changing to the GUID Partition Map as well.
My choice of cloning software would be SuperDuper!…
