UIX Internationalization support

Hi Ting Rung Dai,
In your application structure file, did you set "NLS-Enable Prompts and Tabs" to true? That's a property at Service level, under the Internationalization category. If you did, JHeadstart will create entries for the tab titles etc. in the Resource Bundle java class you specified (also at Service level). In that java class, you should be able to specify traditional Chinese texts as the translation for the message key.
That's how it should work in theory, unfortunately I'm unable to test it myself. Can you check if this works for you?
Hope this helps,
Sandra Muller

Could UIX Internationalization support ?
Hi all:
As UIX documention mentioned as follows:

</init-param>
</filter-mapping>I created a very simple UIX page (following the procedures outlined in the online help topic "Working with uiXML Pages".
I set my IE browser language preference to "Chinese China [zh-cn]", moved it up to the first language selected, so it becomes my first choice.
I did not add any of the Web.xml code you provided, and ran the application.
When the application appeared on my browser, the encoding was set to UTF-8, and pre-localized Chinese characters replaced the "Previous n record" "Next n records" strings. This UIX definitely supports internationalization to Simplified and Traditional Chinese. It all works fine for me running on Windows XP.
In your initial post you said you set your JDeveloper default charset to Big5, then manually edited the page charset to UTF-8. This is probably your problem - since you set your default IDE charset to Big5, that's the encoding of the strings you input to the UIX page. Manually changing the page and response encoding to UTF-8 does not convert the content to UTF-8, and your page content is still actually encoded as Big-5. Is there any reason you can't change the JDeveloper default charset to UTF-8? If you change the defailt JDeveloper charset the strings you input to your UIX page will automatically be encoded as UTF-8. Does your IME only work with Big5? If this is your constraint, then you will have to convert all your Big-5 characters to escaped Unicode. You can use the native2ascii JDK utility to convert your strings, or leave the encoding of the page as Big-5 (don't change to UTF-8).
But if your strings are resourced out using Resource Bundles, then you'll have to run native2ascii to convert the properties files to escaped UTF-8. You can read about the procedures for doing that in this whitepaper: http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/collateral/papers/10g/jdev10g_multilingual.pdf.
This paper was written for 10g, but the procedure for preparing Property Resource Bundles is the same for any version of JDeveloper, since it is is a Java Requirement that Properties files be encoded as 8859-1.
Let me know if you need further assistance. -
Internationalization - Supported Language Packs in Sun IdM 7.1
I am looking for a document in SIM 7.1 that has the list of supported languages for Internationalization. THe docs portal doesnt seem to have this document anymore. Can someone please let me know where to find this info?
Your help is much appreciated.
thanks.1. en - English
2. te - do not know what language is it
If your language in not English or this 'te' language, you shall provide your own message localization files, as described in the docs.
Or am I missing something? -
Internationalization support for File Names
I want to know does it make sense to provide multilingual support for File Names. Say, I have a file called PurchaseOrder.pdf and it will be sent to users as an email attachment. We can localize the file name(for example, in Chinese: 订单.pdf).
But I want to know whether it is a standard to localize the file name. If not, should it be given in English, no matter which locale the user is using.
Thanks in advance
Edited by: Giritharan on Feb 1, 2010 1:53 AM... hopefully you will not have to send another document to the same deliverer the very same day. Even if you add the minutes, a date tells you nothing about the contents. This is no problem as long as I receive nothing but purchase confirmations from you. But as a customer I will receive both sales confirmations and invoices, and then I think it's nice to see what the document is about.
By the way, a person working in an international trading company is supposed nowadays to understand the English words "purchase, sale and invoice", isn't it? Maybe in 50 or 100 years from now Chinese will be the lingua franca. So be prepared for a change ;-) -
Would event in Template be supported in future UIX Version?
My uix pages are totally based on a Template file which has a globalButton to change user's password. So of cause every page can call the changePassword.uix By clicking this button. Problem is after changing password the calling source page should be displayed again. I think the best way here is a event can be called on the template. Does anyone has some idea how I should do it elegantly?
Thanks
YongThere's no brilliantly elegant way of supporting this today. Looking forward UIX will support the Java Server Faces standard, which means - among lots of other goodies - that there'll be support for component-level events and listeners, which is exactly what you need to solve this sort of a problem.

Oracle Strategy for the UIX & BC4J in the new JDeveloper version
What is Oracle Strategy for the UIX & BC4J in the new JDeveloper version:
- Like DataBinding
- BC4J Integration
- UIX controller
- Internationalization
- Supporting for Palm,phone and pager.Hi,
Are these questions all BC4J specific?
General databinding info is discussed here:
What's the developement direction of UIX?
For BC4J/UIX integration, in 9.0.5 we will continue to support our existing api's, but you can also use uix as the view and bc4j as the model in adf, which is described here:
http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/htdocs/905/sod_otn.html#adf
Aside from bug fixes, I don't think there are major changes in the controller/internationization. Did you have specific questions about the controller and internationalization?
We are planning to support Palm web browser 2.0, but due to the timing of the release of a platform that supports it and our own schedules, I don't think it will be officially supported in the 9.0.5 release. We won't have phone or pager support in 9.0.5. -
How to write Resourebundle class for uix page
Our web application should support some different languages .I have took a look of "Internationalization" by help system but still not so clear.
How to make a simple uix page supported with multiple languages at runtime ? If Resoursebundle is the answer ,how to realize it? Has anybody example codes?
thanks
YongYes, you should use a java ResourceBundle, and you can use the bundle data provider to bind text from a bundle. This is described in the Internationalization chapter of the UIX developers guide.
As to how to write a resource bundle, there should be info available on the web, so try doing a search. -
Internationalization - quotation marks
Hi,
How do I internationalize quotation marks?
Example [http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/64/quotation.png]Java has no internationalization support for quotes, which is understandable as sometimes more than one type of quotes is used in a country (e.g. »...« in Germany).
I see only two ways to handle the task:
1. use two different characters for the initial and ending quote. Before output copy your text(s) to a temporary buffer and replace these characters by the desired quotes (String.replaceAll(...))
2. if you have only few quotes to display, break your text at the quotes and insert a variable which you can set according to your needs. -
[Crash] Plugin without intl support on intl OS
(I apologize if this is the wrong place - I'm new here)
Platform: Windows XP SP2; tested with Mozilla Firefox (1.0) and Microsoft Internet Explorer (6.0).
Java Plugin version: Java Plug-in 1.5.0_01 for Netscape Navigator
java version "1.5.0_01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_01-b08)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_01-b08, mixed mode, sharing)
These steps seem to crash the browser when the Java Plugin is started:
1. Install the JRE:
1.1 Select Custom install
1.2 Do not install internationalization support
2. Set computer to have non-US (or maybe non-Latin?) locale - I had Japanese
3. Go to a page with a Java applet in the browser.
4. Browser dies.
Basically, if you don't install the intl support but use an OS that requires one, the plugin crashes, bringing down the browser. Using something that actually exists would probably help a lot.
For step 2, using Microsoft's AppLocale also triggers the bug (so one would not need so many reboots to test)

Good article ..
I have to give internationalization support for an exsisting JSF application. I don't want to go and update the view tag in all my jsp pages.
Is there any other way to do this by modifying a single class in my project, other than the two options given in the article? -
Internationalization for WLP 8.1
Hi All,
Can somebody tell me where is proper documentation available for Internationalization
support in Portal 8.1??
Looks like there are no documents available at BEA site.
TIA,
RAMHi RAM,
For portlet titles, pages, you can:
- use the admin portal >>Go to the library, pick the resource you want to i18n
and under page/portlet properties tab you can add a new locale.
For desktops you can:
- go to the desktop instance and under desktop properties add a new locale. That
should do it. You can test using the tutorial app and cut/pasting some of the
Georgian text into the locale properties field as a test.
Hope this helps.

Given the focus on ADF Faces in the 10.1.3 release of JDev, can Oracle make comment on what the future of UIX will be please?
The following document:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/collateral/papers/9.0.5.0/adfuix_roadmap/adfuix_roadmap.html
....notes that a "A migration tool to upgrade from ADF UIX to ADF Faces will be available in the future". Is this still planned? Does this mean given the 10.1.3 release our JDev production systems (pre 10.1.3), in order to take advantage of bug fixes elsewhere in the technology stack, must use this migration tool and convert their existing applications? (with the associated regression test costs) Or will UIX be supported and extended in the future?
CM.Hi Shital and Marcus,
We will continue to support and develop UIX for a very long time (it is currently used extensively within our eBusinessSuite). Internally ADF Faces is known as UIX 3.0, and we see ADF Faces as a natural evolution of UIX.
Marcus: "But will there be a feature freeze for UIX or do you plan to have the same functionality / components in UIX and JSF?"
A: Looking at UIX today and what we have in ADF Faces the functionality/components are almost identical. There are of course still some work to be done on the ADF Faces side. They are after all just in Early Access release. Eventually there will be a feature freeze of UIX, and you will have to make a decision whether to move to JSF or not, but as I said the UIX framework will be around for a very long time.
Marcus: "Your statement "same developer experience as in 9.0.5" sounds like there will be improvements for JSF that will not be implemented in UIX?"
A: Correct. There is a difference between UIX and JSF that we cannot overlook. JSF allows us to provide more design time features than what would be feasible with UIX.
Shital: "In your opinion should we start using ADF Faces for our new projects and not use UIX?"
A: There is no clear answer to this, yet. If your requirements are to use production software and your projects have deadlines of late summer- early fall 2005 I would definitely use UIX. If your projects are not starting until after summer I would start looking at ADF Faces. Remember that there is currently no production release of JDeveloper that has the same feature set for ADF Faces as with ADF UIX. Features like drag and drop data bindings using ADF model (JSR 227) are not there, yet, for ADF Faces.
Summary
If you are a front runner (and can wait) go and explore JSF and ADF Faces. If you are depending on production software and cannot wait - use ADF UIX.

/homWhich one is it supposed to be? I have both versions installed side-by-side in /usr/lib, the prefix was /usr. Also, I was thinking about openssl installing header files into /usr/include. Aren't they needed to compile this php extension? openssl098 basically installs just the library:
$ pacaur -Ql openssl098
openssl098 /usr/
openssl098 /usr/bin/
openssl098 /usr/bin/openssl098
openssl098 /usr/lib/
openssl098 /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8
openssl098 /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8
openssl098 /usr/share/
openssl098 /usr/share/licenses/
openssl098 /usr/share/licenses/openssl098
Maybe I should go with compiling openssl from sources after all...
On a side note

Does it matter? I'm going to use it for development. -
Hi.
Help me with choice CMS on Java. I've looked at http://java-source.net/open-source/content-managment-systems and decided to use OpenCMS or Magnolia, both are free and with source code available. From CMS I need:
- interface and content internationalization support;
- easy-to-understand source code;
- modules (plugins) support;
- WYSIWYG editor;
- page templtates;
- forum (can be available via modules);
- user management.
I will need to add extra business-specific functionality, though I need a good-designed modules or easy-to-understand source code of CMS to write my own code.
Thank you in advance.Maybe something like CuteNews may be what you need.
You'll need to google for it, I don't have a direct link.

Should Arch have a common input method ?
Should Arch have a common input method ?
Arch is a really great distro,so I think there are a lots of arch users all over the world.
And I believe that more and more people will know Arch, use Arch,Love to use Arch
But I am curious about that : everyone use english only? Just input English only?
For me I need a input method to input Chinese in gedit,gnome-terminal,openoffice and so on.
I guess some users( in particular for non-English users) also need it for their own language.
So I eager hope Arch will official have common method support.
And SCIM is a good choice--Smart Common Input Method.
Old Homepage http://www.freedesktop.org/Software/scim
New homepage http://www.scim-im.org/
And http://sourceforge.net/projects/scim/
SCIM is the defaults Chinene input moethod in SUSE Mandriva(formerly mandrake),and included in Fedoa's Repo.
Tt also is the defauls input moethod for CJK(Chinese/Korea/Japanese) users,SCIM supports a large
number of input methods in a bunch of languages, and trying to enumerate all the input method
engines and their corresponding languages.
scim- scim is the core package, which provides the fundamental routines and data types
skim - An input method based on SCIM library and KDE/QT.
scim-{anthy,canna,prime,skk,wnn} - IMEngines for Japanese
scim-chewing - IMEngine for Tranditional Chinese
scim-pinyin- Currently contains a Smart Pinyin IMEngine for Simplified Chinese.
scim-fcitx - fcitx ported to scim for Chinese
scim-tables - Contains many table based input methods.
scim-uim - A wrapper to use uim as an IMEngine of SCIM.
scim-m17n - A wrapper to use m17n library as an IMEngine of SCIM.
scim-qtimm - Qt-immodule support for scim.
scim-hangul - A Hangul !IMEngine which is ported from imhangul project.
scim-input-pad - scim-input-pad is an OnScreen input pad for SCIM used to input some symbols very easilycactus wrote:@dibble: in fact, I would. Then i would set out to make the packages myself so I could use them, or try to form a group of like minded individuals to create a language specific port.
i don't want to start a massive fight about this cactus because you know I respect your views but i wonder how a group of people that require internationalization support can collaborate on a project without a common language?
We can already see that miracle is doing his best to get his point across with varying sucess, i can't imagine trying to achieve many harder things in the internet environment, never mind establishing a project. Of course this is well within the users power but i really think that in this instance non-enlgish speaking users would greatly benefit from the support of experience Arch Users who have english as first langauge.
miracle - if the PKGs are in the AUR you need to contact other arch users, possibly on the other languages forums, and tell them to vote for the scim pkgs
