UIX/XML: buttons in tables

I've created a table, that contains one column with a button. When a user clicks this button I want to trigger an event and in the event handler I want to determine the row of the button that the user has clicked.
My question: How do I do that?
I had a look a the table_LOV.uix file in the demoBundle. There they use a databound eventhandler. While that is certainly possible for my problem too, this solution is not exactly pretty. Is there any other way to determine the row on the client side, set a formparameter and then trigger the event?
Thanks,
Guido

Sure. Try something like:
<form name="someForm">
  <formParameter name="rowClicked"/>
  <table>
     <submitButton ctrl:event="someSubmit" ...>
       <boundAttribute name="onClick">
         <fixed text="document.someForm.rowClicked='"/>
         <dataObject select="theRowKey"/>
         <fixed text="'"/>
       </boundAttribute>
     </submitButton>
  </table>Basically, we're binding "onClick" to a Javascript handler that'll set a "rowClicked"
parameter correctly depending on the row. You need to supply the "theRowKey" in your
table's data and fix up the names to match your code, etc., but this should be pretty
straightforward.

  • UIX XML & BC4J Editable Tables

    How to process the changes on a bc4j table with editable columns (in UIX XML)?
    We can read the values, but when we try to update the view object, it occurs an error saying that the read value is not serializable.

    I think the problem is that you are not getting at the viewObject correctly in your eventHandler.
    First, in the uiXML file, the handler should be something like:
                <ctrl:handlers>
                  <ctrl:event name="..." >
                    <bc4j:findRootAppModule name="EmpAppModuleLocal" >
                      <bc4j:findViewObject name="AllEmpsVO" >
                        <ctrl:method class="yourClass"
                                     method="applyChanges"/>
                        <bc4j:commit/>
                      </bc4j:findViewObject>
                    </bc4j:findRootAppModule>
                  </ctrl:event>
                </ctrl:handlers>Then you can write your applyChanges method like this:
    public static EventResult applyChanges(BajaContext context,
                                           Page page,PageEvent event)
      ViewObject view = (ViewObject) context.getProperty(
                JboConstants.BC4J_NAMESPACE,
                JboConstants.VIEW_OBJECT_PROPERTY);
      view.getCurrentRow().setAttribute("Ename","Smith");
      return null;
    }Please see:

  • Howto import XML into Excel table ?

    Hi,
    I asked this before in the Excel forums but received the suggestion that I ask here instead.  The question precis : How to ungrey the "Append new data to existing XML lists" checkbox so I can select it when importing XML data into an Excel
    spreadsheet.
    I have a local server which provides data in XML form and need to import successive reloads of the XML page into successive lines in an Excel spreadsheet.  I found the Excel help page entitled "How to use XML in Excel 2003" at http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/excel-help/how-to-use-xml-in-excel-2003-HA001101964.aspx?CTT=1&origin=EC001022986
    which was useful in so far as permitting me to import the data using the XML Source task pane and mapping the elements I need from the XML source to columns in the spreadsheet.
    In order to append successive lines from the XML source page, as I understand it from the link I quoted,  I need to change the XML Map properties to "Append new data to existing XML lists".  However this checkbox is greyed out in the
    XML Map properties dialog box so I can't select it.
    Any ideas how I can achieve my aims here ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
    Thank you for contacting Office IT Pro General Discussions Services.
    From your description, I understand that you tried to import XML into Excel table. You selected “Use the XML Source
    task pane” when opening the XML file, then you tried to check the option in the
    Map Properties window: "Append new data to existing XML lists".
    However, this option is grayed out. If there is any misunderstanding, please feel free to let me know.
    I have checked the issue on my side but could not reproduce this issue. I suggest download the sample XML file as suggested on the page and test the
    issue again:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B4BD3283-AD0B-408D-9CE7-AB9C3537BBBB&displaylang=en
    If the problem does not occur with the sample XML file, this issue might occur as there are some problems with the XML you were using.
    If the problem also occurs in with the sample XML file, this issue might be related to some third-party software conflicts. I suggest checking this
    issue by starting Excel in the safe mode.
    Start the Office program in safe mode
    ==============
    1.
    Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to
    Microsoft Office.
    2.
    Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click
    Microsoft Excel.
    If the problem does not occur in the safe mode, this issue might be related to some third-party add-ins in the Excel program, we can try to disable
    them. Normally, you could do the following to disable the conflict add-ins in your Excel program:
    Disable add-ins
    Click
    Tools > Options >
    Add-in, click Go button in the Manage:
    Com-in Add.
    Check if there are any add-ins,
    clear the checkbox to disable them.
    Close the Office program and
    restart it.
    Add one check back each time to the list of Add-In,
    restart the Office program, and repeat the above procedure. Once the issue reappears again, we can determine which add-in causes this problem and then disable it.
    Please take your time to try the suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear or if there is anything
    I can do for you, please feel free to let me know.
    Best Regards,
    Sally Tang

  • UIX XML databound lookupvalues in comboboxes

    Is it possible in UIX XML to retrieve the options of a combobox (see below) from a dataObjectList?
    Example:
    <list multiple="false" size="1" >
    <contents>
    <option text="Option 1" value="opt1"/>
    <option text="Option 2" value="opt2"/>
    <option text="Option 3" value="opt3"/>
    <option text="Option 4" value="opt4"/>
    </contents>
    </list>
    I think it's quite important to be able to retrieve the text and value attributes of the options from a DataObjectList similar to a table, but I didn't find anything about that in the documentation.

    Thanks Ian, You're right that works fine.
    BUT one other problem: The databinding of the list's selectedValue doesn't work. I tried the following:
    <list multiple="false" size="1" data:selectedValue="isid@fti:issue" name="isidContext">
    <contents data:childData="IssueIDContext@fti:domValues">
    <option data:text="text" data:value="value"/>
    </contents>
    </list>
    But initially the combobox always shows the first option. However when I tried selectedValue="value" the statement works as expected.
    Any idea what i do wrong?

  • Problems with UIX-XML

    We are trying to use the UIX XML framework, but we have some problems:
    1)     We need to show the content of an uploaded file such as PDF, Word, Excel and other multimedia content.
    2)     We need to process the changes on a bc4j table with editable fields (we can read the values, but when we try to update the view object, an error occurs saying that the value is not serializable).
    3)     We need to load the shuttle component with data coming from a bc4j view object and to process the changes on that component (like the order of data).
    4)     We need to use bc4j uix tags in UIX templates.
    5)     We need to read the custom properties of view or entity object.

    Renzo,
    I've read that 9.03 is suppost to have UIX/XML-interMedia support (any JDev guys want to confirm that).
    I've has this same issue and had to revert to BC4J-JSP for the interMedia stuff. That said, to get the UIX look, I was able to wrap that up inside of UIX-JSP pages using <rawText> and it work.

  • Sample UIX XML requested for standard functionality

    I am learning UIX XML.
    Using scott's emp and dept tables, I have used the wizards to generate a UIX XML application using BC4J.
    I would like to enhance the generated UIX XML.
    For example...
    1. The UIX XML pages that allow inserts/updates to the EMP view object. I would like to have a LOV on the dept_no field so user can use this. Typically any foreign key field to have a LOV with a lookup on the master table.
    2. Also I am having some difficulty with radio groups, list items etc that are based on hardcoded values or data in the database. Have you any complete example code. The on-line documentation shows examples but not the whole code working together. Have you got a complete sample app that shows these features?
    3. Have you any UIX XML examples that use FORMS containing text input items, lists, radio groups etc that ARE NOT based on BC4J...then have the event logic access BC4J and do the inserts/updates.
    Thanks,
    Paul.

    Paul,
    Like you I have been learing using the scott schema.
    I too have struggled with this LOV issue in UIX-XML and UIX-JSP and BC4J-JSP. UIX-JSP can allow for a drop down list based upon custom properties in the VO and a "custom" Java class. The HOW-TO Page has an excellent example that when followed (with some tweaks to get what I wanted) the drop down list worked. I know it's not an LOV (like in Forms) but for small FK lookups drop down lists seem to be the requests of most users. But these drop down lists will not happen in UIX-XML or BC4J-JSP. Seems aierd to me but hey, I'm just learning too.
    My point is that I too have asked question after question on this forum about UIX-XML or about implementing fearures of UIX-XML in other frameworks (like coulmn sorting) and have gotten zero helpful repsonses. There were some comments about how 9.0.3 would soleve some of these issues, but no one seems to be able to explain a way to show a "broken" example so that I will be elated when 9.0.3 comes out and works.
    If you get an answer or some helpful pointers pelase forward them to me at [email protected]
    And I apologize for making your heart get all a flutter when you saw the reply count grow by "1" only to find that it's just another loser who can't make the simple things in this IDE work.

  • Which Web Client Framework? BC4J-JSP, UIX-JSP, UIX-XML, etc

    Trying to determine which, if any of the JDeveloper frameworks, to use for do web browser (HTML) clients.
    What are the pros/cons of BC4J-JSP, UIX-JSP, UIX-XML, etc?
    What are some common things you might rule out using one or more of the frameworks?
    I plan to be using BC4J, updating, inserting data (currently MS-SQL) and the apps will run on WebLogic 7 or Caucho Resin (webapps no EJB) in a cluster. I would like to be as RAD as possible and still be able to do what I need to do. One main concern is being able to add custom HTML/JavaScript for things like client side validation. I didn't see a way to do this when doing BC4J-JSP. Is that right?
    If I define any validation in the BC4J, will UIX utilized any of this to define a JavaScript validator or must it be redudantly defined?
    One other concern is what the framework requires in terms of architecture, like do I have to have sticky sessions in my web cluster or can it work fine stateless or stateful?
    For UIX-XML, how is this architected for performance? Specifically, is the XML effectively compiled and converted into something more efficient and performant or does it do XML parsing all the time? Is there any significant performance differences between the frameworks?
    Is there any significant difference in dealing with security? Anything in the framework to make it easier to handle certain users being able to see/edit different set of data?
    I have things like some groups can edit only certain entities (product info but not pricing), others only certain types of products (possibly subclass entities) and others situations where what fields than can edit varies. Obviously I can handle this programmatically, but I was wondering what the frameworks had to offer, especially in terms of having different views of the same data.
    Steve

    ...I am little confused then about how BC4J works and what is meant by "session" here.
    When you talk about appmodules in the plural, does this mean that there are potentially multiple instances of the same data on a single server or there is a common datastore with pending data and client specific stuff varying?
    The common datastore is the database. Each client (momentarily, during the span of their request) uses an instance of an application module from the pool. The pool can grow and shrink with load on your system and all of the various tuning parameters. Our doc on the AM Pool covers all the parameter settings and their users.
    What kind of "session" is this?
    It is an abstract notion of a session for a user. The implementation used for Web clients uses the HTTP Session Key as the session key. However, we have other session implementations (and you can provide your own to do custom stuff for more sophisticated needs). We don't store anything else in the HTTP Session to the best of my knowledge. This way in a cluster, the web container doesn't have to waste time propagating all of your serialized HTTP Session state among cluster members. This session key also include an id for the application module and together those provide the key to store your pending state in the database for the "Stateful == Managed State" feature.
    I assume that if I have a cluster which doesn't use session-to-same-server-affinity but uses JDBC for http-session persistance or distributed in-memory http-sessions then I cannot use stateful BC4J even though I can use http-sessions.
    You can use BC4J in this way because the browser will send a cookie that contains the key to your database-stored pending state. In this way, we work great in a server farm for failover and/or scalability reasons.
    Even if I use stateless BC4J, are there issues with round-robin'ng all requests to different servers in a cluster?
    As I said, both our Stateless and Stateful features are designed to be used in Server farms, no problem.
    BTW I wouldn't necessarily say you picked the wrongs terms for the modes, but I know what you mean. There's problems with these terms. I am trying to explain to my mgrs/engineers that there is some state in stateless transactions - that simply making everything "stateless" doesn't mean don't lose anything in a disastrous failure. I am arguing to get support for sessions in our cluster, that the performance gain and simplified development is worth it as long as you put intelligent limits on what you store in the session. Right now, they are insisting on randomly sending requests into two entirely different data centers, with two different clusters.
    Amen. I have seen too many developers make the mistake of trying to be totally stateless, only to completely complicate their development environment with having to peristent partially-completed transaction data to the database. I've seen this done with sets of "Shadow" tables (yuck!) or using hand-written techniques similar to what BC4J provides a robust implementation of in the box.
    We've tuned our "Stateless With Affinity for Server Farms" model over several releases of carefully studying the performance of the Web apps built by our internal Oracle Applications teams using BC4J (over 20 of them now, and growing!) so compared with a hand-written strategy for your web-tier state management, using BC4J's implementation will be much more productive for you.
    We're tuning and tweaking and enhancing it even more for the 9.0.3 release as new needs are highlighted with continued use by our customers (both Oracle internal and external).

  • 9iAS WE v2 Beta: which adapter to use for BC4J-UIX-XML components?

    hi,
    through official TAR i still have no answer after 3 weeks, so maybe someone here can help me out.
    using Jdveloper 9i RC i create a BC4J-based client project (BC4J-UIX-XML components) which i want to use for wireless services. the only thing i know is that oracle recommends this framework. together with WE v2 we got more than 1000 pages of documentation, but nothing about the new adapters (the most important thing i believe, what else am i supposed to do as official beta tester?!!).
    any piece of information about the new adapters (especially the oc4j-adapter) or any kind of examples are really appreciated.
    TIA, trevi

    automatic mode is just for quick demos. You cannot internationalize your application while using automatic mode.
    You will need to turn off automatic mode, and have bc4j:column beans in your table and databind the data to come from your resource bundles.

  • UIX XML test did not work

    I created a sample project based on the Scott Schema for BC4J Business Objects.
    I then created sample projects for:
    BC4J JSP
    UIX JSP
    UIX XML
    When I run the BC4J LSP and UIX JSP projects the main menus open and I can browse, edit and update all of the scott tables.
    However when I run the UIX XML project, the main menu comes up but if I select ANY view to work with I get the following error.
    Servlet error: Renderer failed: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: -10
    What coulbe wrong?

    To confirm, you say that the files generated okay, and you were able
    to run Main.uix and see it in your browser correctly, but clicking on the
    link to the view object generated a Renderer failed exception in the browser.
    Is this correct?
    What customizations have you made to your View object (or is it simply
    as the wizard generated it)? Can you look at the log window in jdev
    (or your OC4J servlet log) to see if there is additional debugging
    information available? Yes the files generated and compiled ok. I can see the main menu in my browser.
    The UIX-XML project was created using the wizard generated VO's. No customizations were made at all.
    The Embedded OC4J Server messages window in Jdev shows no errors. The Messages window shows no errors.
    FYI, this is on an NT machine that has the full install of Jdeveloper9iDS (Jdev, Forms 9i, Designer, SCM etc.) not just Jdev9i. I'd hope this does not matter but thought I'd mention it. No other Jdev windows (Forms 9i etc.) are up when I run this test.
    TIA,
    Ed.

  • (UIX XML) Sharing Connection objects between BC4J and custom java.

    If I have a UIX XML page that contains some BC4J application modules, then in the event handler I call [public static EventResult handleMyEventEvent (BajaContext context, Page page, PageEvent event..) ], which in turn calls some java classes I have written that take a java.sql.Connection object and access the database doing some updates/inserts with this Connection object (via JDBC)....HOW CAN I USE THE SAME TRANSACTION AS WAS USED IN THE BC4J APPLICATION MODULE...i.e. CAN I SHARE THE CONNECTION OBJECT BETWEEN BC4J AND MY OWN JAVA CLASSES THAT USE JDBC?
    What are the best ways to share such a transaction?
    Thanks,
    Paul.

    Would it be easier to use a custom method on the bc4j Application module?
    Take this scenario...
    1. User opens UIX XML web page which opens a bc4j App Module..it has a VO based on all employees.
    2. User presses the add button and a new employee is created (using the bc4j App Module).
    (Notice: no commit yet!)
    3. User presses the submit button...fires event REVIEW_SALARY.
    4. This event is 'handled' in the event section of the UML XML...it calls:-
    public static EventResult handleREVIEW_SALARYEvent (BajaContext context, Page page, PageEvent event)...
    5. I now want to call a java class I wrote that computes an employees new salary and updates the employee record with this new salary. This update will fail unless it is part of the same transaction as the one used by the bc4j App Module (that inserted the new employee).
    How best to proceed from here?
    How about having a method on the bc4j App Mod's VO called 'reviewSalary'? Calling this would use the same transaction? I could then call my java class from within the VO's method? However do I still have the same problem in that my java class expects to be passed the connection object?
    The approach you suggested previously seems a touch dangerous....in that these are not 'publically exposed'...and a new release of JDev may break my code.
    Thanks,
    Paul.

  • UIX XML BC4J  Calling custom and framework methods

    We are developing an application using BC4J and UIX XML.
    We would like to define field attributes, such as date formatting and labels, at business component-level, but those properties are bound to a locale setting. We do not want to duplicate this kind of settings for each end-user locale, whats the best way to obtain that? And UIX BC4J extension tags, like tables and region in automatic mode, will automatically use those settings?
    In BC4J components we can define custom methods to perform further processing, using UIX XML can we access those and other framework-provided interfaces, and how?

    automatic mode is just for quick demos. You cannot internationalize your application while using automatic mode.
    You will need to turn off automatic mode, and have bc4j:column beans in your table and databind the data to come from your resource bundles.

  • How can I render an active link (yrl) within a UIX/XML page

    How can I render an active link (url) within a UIX/XML page.
    How can I get <jbo:ShowValue> to work in UIX/XML, or is there another way?
    Bill G...

    It may seem strange, but the <contents> of <rawText> aren't actually
    raw - it's only the "text" attribute that's raw. (It seems strange because
    it is. Ah well.) This is different from UIX JSP.
    So, try something like the following:
    <bc4j:attrScope name="Notes">
    <contents>
    <rawText text="&lt;a href=&quot;"/>
    <rawText>
    <boundAttribute name="text">
    <bc4j:attrProperty name="value"/>
    </boundAttribute>
    </rawText text="&quot;&gt;"/>
    Some text in the link.
    <rawText text="&lt;/a&gt;"/>
    </contents>
    <bc4j:attrScope>
    Thankfully, this will be much simpler in 9.0.3, when the following
    will work:
    <link text="Whatever you want">
    <boundAttribute name="destination">
    <bc4j:attrValue name="Notes"/>
    </boundAttribute>
    </link>

    I'm not sure if you want the values from the attribute or the element, but this should give you a good start :
    SQL> alter session set nls_numeric_characters = ".,";
    Session altered
    SQL>
    SQL> select x.*
      2  from my_table t
      3     , xmltable(
      4         xmlnamespaces('http://www.oracle.com/fsg/2002-03-20/' as "sg")
      5       , '/MasterReport/sg:RptDef/sg:RptLine'
      6         passing xmltype(t.xmldoc)
      7         columns type    varchar2(30) path 'sg:RptCell[1]'
      8               , amount  number       path 'sg:RptCell[2]'
      9       ) x
    10  ;
    TYPE                               AMOUNT
    debits                                100
    credits                               100

  • Can't Figure Out How To Import XML into a Table?

    HELP!
    I've been using InDesign for several years now... but everything Ive ever done has been basic one off layout concepts.
    I am working on a website for a musical theater actress and for her resume, Id like to make a PDF which lists in table format the show, theatre and role she had for each job.
    I could do this manually... but Id really like to learn how to just reuse the same XML data that I have for her website and import it into InDesign.
    I have looked at Adobe's help file, I have scoured the internet, and I still can't figure it out... I have done like the adobe support file says... and I cant seem to get the values I create in her resume xml file to show up in a table I create in InDesign.
    I even tried to simplify it for the learning process and did something as basic as an XML file that has 5 colors... couldnt even get that working.
    So could someone explain it to me like Im a 5 year old... how to take a XML file, import it, place it in a table and have the data actually show up in the table.
    thanks,
    brian

    Are you sure you want to use XML with tables for this? No doubt importing XML into tables is useful for some specialized tasks, such as importing formatting information inside the XML itself, but for most of the familiar tasks that XML excels at, tables are neither necessary nor useful.
    In my (limited) experience, if the XML elements are well-differentiated, by which I mean different types of data have their own distinctive tags, then the special powers of XML can be exploited more fully using the more familiar tagged text, nested tags etc. in ordinary text frames using paragraph breaks, tab characters, etc. to achieve a suitably "tabular" finished appearance.
    If you must import XML into tables, I recommend Adobe's own PDF "Adobe InDesign CS3 and XML: A Technical Reference" availabe here:
    http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/indesign/articles/indcs3ip_xmlrules.pdf
    It sounds very daunting -- the words "technical reference" make me shudder -- but actually it's very readable and not very technical at all. Some nice pics and everything!

  • Disable delete button in Table Maintainance Generator

    Hello all,
      How to disable delete button in Table maintainance generator???

    Hi Maya,
    It is very interesting question. If you debug your table maintenance screen, the program of table maintenance screen will not have statically defined pf status. So you cannot exclude delete functionalities using the below statement.
    SET PF-STATUS <the GUI status> EXCLUDING 'DELE'.
    For viewing pf status SAP has programmed in dynamic manner using this FM VIEW_SET_PF_STATUS.
    Before calling above FM you need to exclude delete function. Follow the following step for achieving this
    Go to sm30. Put your table name and press on maintain push button. It will display table entries in maintenance screen.
    Go to system->status
    Click on program name.
    Go to your flow logic of you table maintenance screen number.
    It will have following code in flow logic
    PROCESS BEFORE OUTPUT.
    MODULE LISTE_INITIALISIEREN.
    LOOP AT EXTRACT WITH CONTROL
      TCTRL_ZMAINTAIN CURSOR NEXTLINE.
       MODULE LISTE_SHOW_LISTE.
    ENDLOOP.
    PROCESS AFTER INPUT.
    MODULE LISTE_EXIT_COMMAND AT EXIT-COMMAND.
    MODULE LISTE_BEFORE_LOOP.
    LOOP AT EXTRACT.
       MODULE LISTE_INIT_WORKAREA.
       CHAIN.
        FIELD ZMAINTAIN-MATNR .
        FIELD ZMAINTAIN-KUNNR .
        FIELD ZMAINTAIN-LIFNR .
        MODULE SET_UPDATE_FLAG ON CHAIN-REQUEST.
       ENDCHAIN.
       FIELD VIM_MARKED MODULE LISTE_MARK_CHECKBOX.
       CHAIN.
        FIELD ZMAINTAIN-MATNR .
        MODULE LISTE_UPDATE_LISTE.
       ENDCHAIN.
    ENDLOOP.
    MODULE LISTE_AFTER_LOOP.
    Add new module in PBO for excluding delete function. ex  module set_pf.
    PROCESS BEFORE OUTPUT.
    ****here I added my own code for excluding delete function
    ****begin of addion
    module set_pf.
    ****end of addition
    MODULE LISTE_INITIALISIEREN.
    LOOP AT EXTRACT WITH CONTROL
      TCTRL_ZMAINTAIN CURSOR NEXTLINE.
       MODULE LISTE_SHOW_LISTE.
    ENDLOOP.
    PROCESS AFTER INPUT.
    MODULE LISTE_EXIT_COMMAND AT EXIT-COMMAND.
    MODULE LISTE_BEFORE_LOOP.
    LOOP AT EXTRACT.
       MODULE LISTE_INIT_WORKAREA.
       CHAIN.
        FIELD ZMAINTAIN-MATNR .
        FIELD ZMAINTAIN-KUNNR .
        FIELD ZMAINTAIN-LIFNR .
        MODULE SET_UPDATE_FLAG ON CHAIN-REQUEST.
       ENDCHAIN.
       FIELD VIM_MARKED MODULE LISTE_MARK_CHECKBOX.
       CHAIN.
        FIELD ZMAINTAIN-MATNR .
        MODULE LISTE_UPDATE_LISTE.
       ENDCHAIN.
    ENDLOOP.
    MODULE LISTE_AFTER_LOOP.
    *****inclule one line of code for excluding delete fucion
    module set_pf output.
          MOVE 'DELE' TO excl_cua_funct-function. COLLECT excl_cua_funct.
    endmodule.
    Basically sap fetching status dynamically from program SAPLSVIM using FM VIEW_SET_PF_STATUS. Status name is EULG.
    Please donu2019t hardcode anything by using set pf status statment, you just add one line of code the PBO by creating new module.
    Let me know if you need any help .
    Cheers.

    Peranandam
