Unable to access nested managed bean property in JSF 1.2.9

In an old version of JSF, namely 1.2-b20-FCS from April/21/2006, I could access nested properties of a managed bean. So I had a managed bean OuterBean, and in JSF I could write
<h:inputText value="#{outerBean.innerBean1.propertyA"/>
The Java class OuterBean has a member function
InnerBean OuterBean.getInnerBean1();
That is, there is a function getInnerBean1() taking no arguments, and it returns something which in my example above is the class InnerBean.
Class InnerBean has a member function getPropertyA().
But in the latest JSF from July/17/2008, this nested stuff is not working.
Simple access like #{outerBean.propertyA} works, but nested access like #{outerBean.innerBean.propertyA} does not.
The exception is something like
org.apache.jasper.el.JspELException: /whatever/mypage.jsp(71,15) '#{outerBean.innerBean.username}' Error reading 'innerBean' on type
mypackage.OuterBean at org.apache.jasper.el.JspValueExpression.getValue(JspValueExpression.java:107) at javax.faces.component.UIOutput.getValue(UIOutput.java:184) at com.sun.faces.renderkit.html_basic.HtmlBasicInputRenderer.getValue(HtmlBasicInputRenderer.java:201) at com.sun.faces.renderkit.html_basic.HtmlBasicRenderer.getCurrentValue(HtmlBasicRenderer.java:284) at com.sun.faces.renderkit.html_basic.HtmlBasicRenderer.encodeEnd(HtmlBasicRenderer.java:154) at javax.faces.component.UIComponentBase.encodeEnd(UIComponentBase.java:861) at javax.faces.component.UIComponent.encodeAll(UIComponent.java:946) at javax.faces.render.Renderer.encodeChildren(Renderer.java:148) at javax.faces.component.UIComponentBase.encodeChildren(UIComponentBase.java:837) at javax.faces.component.UIComponent.encodeAll(UIComponent.java:936) at javax.faces.component.UIComponent.encodeAll(UIComponent.java:942) at com.sun.faces.application.ViewHandlerImpl.doRenderView(ViewHandlerImpl.java:271) at com.sun.faces.application.ViewHandlerImpl.renderView(ViewHandlerImpl.java:202) at com.sun.faces.lifecycle.RenderResponsePhase.execute(RenderResponsePhase.java:109) at com.sun.faces.lifecycle.Phase.doPhase(Phase.java:100) at com.sun.faces.lifecycle.LifecycleImpl.render(LifecycleImpl.java:139) at javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet.service(FacesServlet.java:266) atThanks.

Sorry, it looks fine to me. In my original post, I had the call stack in code and for some reasons the newlines were removed. So let me try again in text, but putting two newlines. Hope it works this time:

  • Can't set managed bean property:

    Hi,
    I am trying to experiment with JSF and I am extending an example I downloaded from the web. When I added a new secret field and extened the bean. I get the following error. I trying to resolve this problem from two days , cant figure out why I get this exception. I tried changed the property name I still get the same error. It is something to do with the bean, I am not sure why its not able to set the property, I know that the get and set methods exist in the class file. Any help would be greatly appreciated . I have pasted the bean file, faces-config.xml, and the inputname.jsp file below. Thanks a lot.

  • Problems setting managed bean property of type Integer

    I got a problem when I use valueBinding #{param.productId} in faces-config.xml for my managed bean:
    My property 'productId' in bean Product is of type Integer, and my bean is in request scope. When I try to invoke some action on page, wich should navigate me to another view - JSF is trying to set productId for current view, and of course it is empty (""), and for the reasons given above I'm getting an error:

    Should I use requestScope instead of param to have my parameter null, and not "" ?
    If so, how should I pass requestScope parameter using commandLink?

    Hi! I have a problem with setting params too. Probably my one is different.
    I have a jsp page which show a datatable, where I can see a row for each Product. If I click on its name I would navigate to another page that shows product informations, as several ecommerce sites do.
    But I can't understand what and how I must set to inform the details page on which product have to show.
    I read in this forum that it's possible to set a parameter in productBean, and then the constructor of product bean loads others fields knowing its id.
    The snippet of my faces-config.xml is:
      <managed-bean>
        <managed-bean-name>product</managed-bean-name>
        <managed-bean-class>test.backing.ProductBean</managed-bean-class>
        <managed-bean-scope>request</managed-bean-scope>
        <managed-property>
          <property-name>idToLoad</property-name>
          <property-class>java.lang.Integer</property-class>
          <value>#{param.id}</value>
        </managed-property>
      </managed-bean>It is possible? is a correct solution? and if it is, how can I do that?
    Thanks very much if someone can resolve my problem.
    Claudio.

  • Unable to access Skype Manager

    I've been unable to access Skype Manager for 8 days now.  My account works fine to log in regularly via the skyep app (to make calls, chat, etc), and I can even login to the skype site to change settings for that account.  I just can't get into the Skype Manager.  When I do, I see an error message (screenshot below) either after I'm prompted for my login credentials, or immediately upon clicking the Skype Manager link if I'm already logged in.
    When I chat or email Skype support, they either claim that it's working fine, or they say that a "specialized department" (they always refuse to name the department when I ask) will take care of it and email me.  The email invariably arrive a couple of days later telling me that everything is working fine, and if for some reason it's still not working, I should contact Skype chat support.
    I tried reaching out to Claudius at @SkypeSupport via twitter and all I got back from him were these two non-specific and not-helpful tweets:
    @mdavep I just successfully logged onmanager.skype.com in using IE9. Which browser are you using and which error do you see? ^CH
    (when I answered his question he did not reply)
    -and-
    @mdavep Which page are you trying to login? Your web account page is here:skype.com/go/myaccount ^CH
    (when I answered his question he did not reply)
    My business is suffering as a result of these problems, as I am unable to reassign phone numbers to my sales teams and make changes to my tracked numbers for my ad campaigns.  I'm probably losing about $250-$500 per day that this is not working.
    Screenshot:

    We've identified a login problem with Skype Manager and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible.
    Sorry for the inconvenience (and confusion caused by my follow up tweet).
    Unfortunately I can't share an ETA for the fix yet.

  • Accessing managed-beans property from simple java class

    I have managed bean that is registered in faces-config.xml:
    <managed-bean>
    <managed-bean-name>documentReportsBean</managed-bean-name>
    <managed-bean-class>[myApp].beans.DocumentReportsBean</managed-bean-class>
    <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
    </managed-bean>
    I want to access property of documentReportsBean from other java class without registering managed-property in faces-config. How can I do that?

    Thank you, what I needed was someone saying the right word. "ValueBinding" in this case.. :)
    Two lines:
    ValueBinding vb = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getApplication().createValueBinding("#{documentReportsBean}");
    DocumentReportsBean pbean = (DocumentReportsBean) vb.getValue(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance());
    gives my full control. Nice

  • H:selectOneMenu value binding to managed bean property

    Please help. Cannot figure out why selectOneMenu value binding is not working...
    The main contents of my jsp:
         <h:form id="form1" rendered="true">
              <P>
                   <h:selectOneMenu value="#{MBListBoxExample.selectedProject}" rendered="true"
                        required="false">
                        <f:selectItems value="#{MBListBoxExample.items}" />
                   </h:selectOneMenu>
              </P>
              <h:commandButton value="ShowSelected" rendered="true" action="#{MBListBoxExample.showSelected}" />
         </h:form>I have a managed bean with a property that is basically a custom object:
    private Project selectedProject;The selectOneMenu gets populated with the following code in my managed bean:
         public List getItems() {
              try {
                   ArrayList projectList = new ArrayList ();
                   projectList.add(new Project(1, "Project 1"));
                   projectList.add(new Project(2, "Project 2"));
                   projectList.add(new Project(3, "Project 3"));
                   projectList.add(new Project(4, "Project 4"));
                   ArrayList itemList = new ArrayList();
                   for (int x=0; x<projectList.size(); x++) {
                        SelectItem tempItem = new SelectItem();
                        Project tempProj = (Project) projectList.get(x);
                        tempItem.setLabel(tempProj.getName());
                        tempItem.setValue(tempProj);
                        itemList.add(tempItem);
                   return itemList;
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                   e.printStackTrace();
              return null;
         }The following code is tied to my command button to display some simple output when the button is clicked:
         public void showSelected() {
              System.out.println("The selected item is: " + selectedProject.getName());
         }If I set the value of the SelectItem (tempItem) above to a String and make the selectedProject variable of type String, the code works.
    My goal is to have the items in the list reference 'Project' objects and be able to get to the selected object when the user clicks the command button.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    The problem is that you're missing a converter. JSF needs to convert your values from Strings into Projects and vica verca.
    When you do the form submission the values are passed as strings along with the labels. JSF isn't smart enough to convert them automatically.

  • N97 freezing up - unable to access file manager/co...

    I don't know if anyone can help me ... My n97 was working fine uptil yesterday! however, this morning it kept getting stuck e.g. not able to see the photos, accessing apps, or file manager. Now even the four contacts I have on my home screen aren't showing ... or rather one isn't the other three are horribly blurred images!
    I've tried giving a hard reset which it did but it's still not working. I'm trying to uninstall some apps I don't need but it freezes up every single time. When I try to access file manager it gets stuck showing "opening". I can't access my messages because it freezes.
    I've got a feeling its something to do with the phone memory. I've recently updated to the new firmware version 11 ... however I've found out it's gotten slower!
    Please can someone help me ... I'm going crazy I simply can't use my fone!
    Solved!

    Can anyone help????
    I purchased a Nokia N97 approx 6 weeks ago, I am now up to handset number 4 and am about to take it back AGAIN!!!
    I am continuously having problems with the phone freezing, black/blue screens, "unable to use/access functions" coming up on screen, when switching off phone it goes through all the applications I have had opened before it turns off, just to name a few.
    These are just a few issues that I have been having and continue to have with the handsets. I love using the N97 and am quite happy to keep using it, but am starting to think it is not a reliable phone at all and unfortunately I signed up to a 2 year contract.
    I have gone online on numerous occasions and checked for software updates and nothing comes up on my phone, so I assume that the phone has the latest software. If anyone has any solutions to my problems can you please let me know as I am not gettig any help from Nokia or my service provider.

  • Access a manage bean through other bean/validator

    Hello
    I want to access a session managed bean from a Validator i created.
    I did added that to my faces-config.xml :
         <referenced-bean>
              <referenced-bean-name>userDetails</referenced-bean-name>
              <referenced-bean-class>com.ibm.manageBeans.UserDetails</referenced-bean-class>
         </referenced-bean>
    but how do i access the bean within the validator class ??
    Thanks

    I found why this happen but i can't fix it :
    It happen because the validator class is invoking
    before the bean's setters are.
    So naturally the validator get a null when he uses
    the getters.
    What should I do in such a case ?Based on what you have written I imagine you are expecting the bean's values to be set from values in the request? If you are just acting on one value, i.e. the thing you are validating then that value is passed into the validator method, you do not need to get it from a bean.

  • How to set bean property in jsf page

    Hi,
    Hopefully theres an easy solution, but I can't figure it out...
    I have a managed bean that spans several jsf pages.
    Within each page I want to set a flag that tells the bean which page it is serving (as well as some other params).
    How do I set a property of the bean in the page?
    I've tried
    <jsp:useBean id="filter3" scope="request" class="com.aol.rsistats.ui.FilterBean"/>
    <jsp:setProperty name="filter3" property="filterType" value="3"/>
    but that doesn't load the page through the normal JSF routine (and I initialise some values of the bean in the faces-config.xml file... so these are not initialiased when the setProperty is called) .
    (In general I get some strange behaviour when I mix jsf tags with jsp, or jstl, so I've avoided it as much as possilble)
    Is there another way?
    Cheers,
    Keith

    This example works for me (using jsf-1_1_01).
    Index.jsf:
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" %>

    <%-- jakarta-taglibs-standard-1.0 --%>

    <%--
    Note, that with jakarta-taglibs-standard-1.1.1 taglib directive
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" prefix="c" %>
    the example NOT works!!!

  • Unable to access Job Manager

    Hi All,
    When I try to access the Job Manager after a recent installation, I get the following error:
    The procedure entry point JVMConstantPoolGetUTF8@16 could not be located in the dynamic link library jvm.dll.
    Do you have any idea, what the issue could be here?
    Thanks and Regards

    Can you give me some details on your environment setup? BI Server OS? Database Server OS? Database type and version? OBIEE version? Do you have all your environmental variables setup? java home, oracle home, etc?
    If you give me more details, I should be able to help.
    Thanks!
    -Joe
    Hi Joe,

  • Accessing managed-bean in a JSP (portal theme).

    I have a tricky situation where I need to access a managed-bean outside a JSF jsr 168 api portlet. Now I need to reference the bean in the themes jsp (just fyi themes loosely relate to JSP's which control the look and feel, navigation within portal page). I was thinking of a way to set a managed-bean variable in the jsp before the portlet where the managed-bean is declared. Is this possible ? Any ideas ?

    You can just access managed beans using JSTL EL.${myBean}or if you strictly want to specify the scope, e.g. session scope${sessionScope.myBean}where "myBean" is the managed bean name. Keep in mind that you cannot use this in input elements, but only in output elements. If you want to use this in input elements, then you should be using JSF components with deferred EL #{myBean.input} and so on.

    Whats wrong here?

    Hi gimbal2,
    I haven't deployed the project yet. I am still in development phase. I am using eclipse. So i am using inbuilt browser from eclipse only.
    I saw this post on the same forum:
    http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5297862
    This person had the same problem. But his question is not answered yet.
    People here are saying:
    *1)page is getting submitted more than once. Either because the user is clicking on the commandbuttons/links multiple times or through some other event.*
    ->I am not using any javascript. But problem here is whenever i try to load file from my local machine, in first attempt it wont proceed. I need to load file twice or thrice. Is it some problem?
    But one thing to note here is that i am not getting exception after loading the file. I am getting exception after reading the file in managed bean and returning from it with some status.
    *2)This exception can be caused by the browser closing its end of the socket for any number of reasons (user presses stop loading button, clicks another link, closes the browser window, etc.):*
    ->I am not pressing any button or doing any activity once i load the file.
    *3)Sounds like it should be caught and ignored since these are normal user actions. I was just concerned it might be causing some kind of impact that we don't know about.*
    ->I can't ignore it because, my next JSP is not getting loaded after i return from the read file bean.
    Hope People here can help me solve this problem. I am not able to proceed :(

  • How to access backing bean of a xml component , in a managed bean of ADF

    Hi,
    We wrote a xml component in JSF and this component is used in ADF project by including the component as jar .
    In a master detail page , we need to update the value of the xml component, when the master row is changed. How to do this.
    We are trying to do this by accessing the backing bean of the xml component in ADF project's managed bean. So when ever the row changes, we can access the managed bean in ADF and then can set the value of the xml component by accessing it's backing bean
    But i can't access the backing bean instance of the xml component in the ADF managed bean. Could you let me know how to do this. Thanks .

    Thanks for the response Shay. The xml component is added as a custom component , with a separate faces-config.xml file . This component is added to ADF project as a jar with a custom tag.
    In the ADF project , i'm having different managed beans and i can access them from a different managed bean.
    The issue is, i can't access the added custom component's backing bean which is available from a different jar , defined in a separate faces-config.xml file . This backing bean is defined with request scope.

  • Accessing Managed Beans from Code

    Hi,
    How can I access managed beans from my code? I am too new to JSF to know if what I am doing is right from a design perspective. But what I am trying to do is to use Actions as sort of a Web Facade that aggregates state from other beans (all of them Managed beans right now) to build up state that is necessary for displaying pages.
    Thanks for you help
    Suhail

    Just answering my own question. The answer was given in a different thread (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=427&thread=427057&message=1901909#1901909) . JSF has provided various Factories (look at the FactoryFinder API) that allow one I presume to access the internal state of a FacesContext. One of the factory is ApplicationFactory. This factory from what I can make out essentially gives you access to everything (actionlisteners, navigationhanlder,components etc) in you application. My original question was about accessing something (for some reason) named ValueBinding. I can access the managed beans declared in my faces-config.xml by invoking getValue(facesContext). I can naturally also set the value of a bean by invoking setValue(...). I just needed the getValue and it seems to work.
    Ofcourse keep in mind that the underlying managed bean will not necessarily be initialized when you access it so test for nullness. As a general rule I think its best not to create the beans but access them using this facility. After all its not for nothing these are called Managed Beans.
    Now if only the faces implementation would persist the changes to Navigation hanlders that one makes in the code ;-)
