Unable to copy to clients with ARD 3.8

Our school is unable to using ARD 3.8 with all clients running on Mavericks 10.9.5 with all updates.
While using Spotlight search we find files, but are unable to copy them to the admin machine.
The scenario is this:
- I search for files on users desktop "/Users/student/Desktop/" using the Spotlight feature
- Look for mp3 audio files
- Select all results and press "Copy To This Computer."
- Select Desktop as my destination and start to copy the files
Problem:
The first file will copy fast, but the second will stall sat 0%.
After a about 1 minute timeout the second file fails.
The third file copies as fast as the first.
The fourth file stalls again at 0%.
After a about 1 minute timeout the second file fails.
This pattern repeats.
Tried these fixes:
- Updating Maverick host and client with all available updates.
- Update Apple Remote Desktop from 3.7 -> 3.8
- Deleted associated preferences with ARD database
- Opening com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist and replacing all hostname with ignorehostname,etc., via recommendation from community poster (Bryan).
Question:
Is anyone else having problems with this? Copying files from admin machine with ARD to clients also exhibits this problem.

I would use an alternate scheme.
Duplicate the document and delete what must not appear in the LogBook.

Setting time or time server on clients with ARD

Does anyone know what files need to be copied to OS X clients to set their time or time server? I know that time server info is stored in /etc/ntp.conf, but this isn't the only file that needs to be sent to set up a client to get its time from a time server. I haven't been able to find the correct .plist file that includes these settings and am not familiar enough with UNIX to know which other files are used for these settings.

Using the ARD Send Unix Command option send the following command to the workstations:
systemsetup -settime <hh:mm:ss>
where <hh:mm:ss> is the time you want the systems to have (don't include the brackets). Send the command as the root user (enter root in "send command as:")
To set the time server to use, send:
systemsetup -setnetworktimeserver <timeserver>
substituting the domain name of the time server (again, no brackets).
For more such commands, in Terminal enter:
/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Support/netw orksetup -help
/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Support/syst emsetup -help

Unable to generate WebService Client with Exported (BAPI) WSDL file from XI

Hi there,
I, trying to setup a simple Web Service environment where I'll be exposing a BAPI as Web Service via XI.
So these are the steps I followed:
1) first I imported the BAPI meta data into my SWC in the repository. 2) Second I defined my interrface etc.. 3) Third I exported the generated BAPI WSDL file. 4) Fourth, I tried to generate a Java proxy/client for my Web Service using a Java IDE (IBM WebSphere Application Developer and XML Spy).
Now the problem is that Im not able to generate the Web Service client using the exported WSDL file, the WSDL seems not to be valid...From the generated errors in the IDE, I can see that the problem has to do somewhere/somehow with the WSDL Binding element, which input parameters do not match the input parameters of the port type.
This is a small part of the WSDL file as generated by XI:

After synchronising with the server i am not able to start the MIclient it gives the error as "start failed". But before synchronising, MIclient was working fine.This error has occured when i tried to download and start the aplication as an end user.in the webconsole the status is displayed as "delete with next synchronisation".will this status in the webconsole matter.

Disable internet on clients with ARD?

A good friend of me is teacher and he use Apple Remote Desktop to manage all his iBooks from his students. There are times when it's alowed for them to use the internet, but also times when they are requested to listen to the teacher and don't send e-mails to friends.
Is there a possibility to use ARD to disable internet access for the students client machines?

Well, other than making a script of some sort that will lock out port 80 (basic web) and turn it back on the easiest solution is just to have the class list up and sort the list by Application. When the students are supposed to be working in word and you see little Steven is running Safari, all you have to do is monitor their screen and see if what they are doing is what they should be doing. We have the preferences set on student machines that they never know when we are watching, it makes the good ones less paranoid and doesn't warn the bad one that you have ARD active. Most students will often change their behavior when caught, knowing that you can see all that they do, even when your not standing beside them.

OraRRP Error with "Unable to copy data file;Error code 2, check disk space"

Hi,
Some users get this message -"Unable to copy data file;Error code 2, check disk space" when run report with orarrp, but most users do not get it.
I check free space at both server and client side, they are very sufficient.
I also checked directory exists for REPORTXX_TMP variable.
My user call reports via URL (rwservlet) and it occur for all reports.
How I can solve this problem?

have the same problem now. One user has temporarily problems to download .rrpa files via URL (rwservlet) request. Error code: -"Unable to copy data file;Error code 2, check disk space". Did you get a solution??

Slow copy and install times with ARD 3.6.1

I have just this school year setup a new iMac lab with 23 clients and 1 admin iMac. All are 27 inch 3.2 Ghz. All run the latest Mac OS.
The network is running through a 100baseT Brocade switch. When copying files to all clients the transfer speed is really slow. I often need to copy over QuickTime movie files that students watch to learn steps for Photoshop and other applications. The file sizes can be well over 50Mb at times.
I used Migration Assistant to set up the Admin mac from a previous Mac. Could that be the cause?
What should take seconds is taking many minutes. I am frustrated and have asked the network admin's to help but the school is all PC except for my lab so they are manly PC guys. But they are trying to help.
Can anyone make some suggestions as to what may be going on?
I have requested a 1000baseT switch to see if that helps, but it will not be installed till next year sometime.

I believe this is bug with ARD that has yet to be fixed. If you copy the same file to just one computer using ARD it should be fast, but if you copy the same file to two computers or more in ARD it gets more than twice as slow. The more computers you try to do at once in ARD it gets magnitudes slower. For some reason ARD cannot handle multiple streams. It is so bad that even when working on multiple computers I still have to do them one at time if there is any copying involved. I can do 10 computers one a time via ARD so much faster than all 10 at once.
So give this a test, deploy your large file or application to all 23 systems and time how long it takes to get to 10% complete. Then stop it and have ARD send to just 1 computer. Do the math and you will see ARD ***** when it comes to copying anything to more than one system.
We are gigabit in our lab already and it did not help solve this bug.

I went through this Document
Client copy error :
RFC destination for client copy in systems with Financials Basis
(FINBASIS) component.
The system could not find any suitable RFC destination for processing
for client 001.
This note also appears if an RFC destination was found but this does not
work.
o   RFC destination: 001
o   Error text:
Proceed as follows to eliminate this error:
1. Start the wizard to create a new RFC connection
or perform the following steps manually:
1. Create an RFC destination with the target ZK>source client of client
     copy (in this case 001).
2. Check whether the RFC destination works in transaction SM59.
     To avoid errors when assigning the password or the authorizations of
     the RFC user, use the authorization test Test -> Authorization.
3. Enter the RFC destination:
     -   Transaction: FINB_TR_DEST (Destinations for Transport Methods of
         the Financials Basis)
     -   Client: 001
4. Start the client copy again.
SOLUTION:
Login to client 001
Go to sm59, create rfc connection type 3, give the rfc destination : FINBASIS_001
Logon and security--> give user id and password (of any user in client 000)(user should be a service user or communication user so as to avoid password lock situation)
Check Test connection: test ---à authorization test.
Login in to new client: 800
Run the tcode: FINB_TR_DEST
Click on new entries:
Give the client: 001 and destination as FINBASIS_001 and save .
Run Tcode: sccl
Source: 001
Target: 800
Run as background job. Go to sm37 & check the status.

Indesign CC packaging process fails with the error message "Unable to copy necessary file(s)"

When I try to package a file with a lot of links, the Indesign CC packaging process fails with the error message "Unable to copy necessary file(s)". I am able to make a PDF of the same file, but when packaking the process fails every time. The app does not crash, just gives an error message. What gives?
(I'm using a MacBook Pro Retina Display with 16 GB RAM, running OS 10.9 and all CC 9.1 updated with the latest patches).

@John – that's really strange… the thing with the file names depending on the file type. That could eleminate Mavericks a bit from the equation and put the weight more on InDesign CC.
Provided:
1. You give it a go with InDesign CS6 v8.0.2 and tests are showing it will work fine in this regard.
2. The same composite characters are present in both file types, the ai files and the PhotoShop ones. On a Mac OSX characters for files and folders can consist of "composite" components:
ü for example is a two component one: the u and the two dots above the u. On a machine with MS Windows, this is not the case…
InDesign CC was programmed from scratch for a 64 bit architecture. So it could be a severe bug in InDesign CC.
Maybe other readers in this forum could test for these cases…

ARD Cannot See Client with Stealth Mode Enabled

Hello,
I have a client with OS X v10.4.11, and security update 2007-009 is not installed. If I Enable Stealth Mode (firewall) on this client, it no longer appears in the ARD list, even though ARD is enabled on the client and the ARD users have been granted access. Has anyone seen this before? If so, is there a solution other than disabling stealth mode for the firewall?

Depending on your network layout, it could indeed be blocked ports. ARD depends on ports 3283 for most functions and 5900 for observe and control. So if the lab is on a different subnet from your administrator workstation, have your network admin confirm that both of those ports are open in the router.

Unable to conrol screens on 2 ARD clients

I am having a problem with two client systems and have never been able to take control of the screen through ARD. You can call them the "Unruley Two." I can do everything else including share my screen to them. The ARD app. works properly on other clients with the same exact setup. I'm now pulling my hair out because I've repeatly checked preferences and sharing again and again and still have not been able to control these two.
I'm running the latest ARD v2.2 (10 client) with all systems running Mac OS X 10.4. I believe the two problem computers may have had version 2.0 installed prior to v2.2. -should that matter?
Could this be related to a .plist file?
Any ideas.

These two clients are behind a NAT router while others clients are using a Airport connection. I found another post that states "ARD uses port 5900 for Observe and Control functions" So I think I may have my answer if I open that port.
Anyone else have this issue?
