Unable to fetch session variables in my application page code behind

hi,
my env:  1  WFE  server which hosts the  central admin and my web appln,  1 sql server box
i am having a custom web part[ listviewbyquery web part]  which populates the site collection/ sub site's document library contents . also it reads some query string values and pushes these  values into  session variables.
and i am having another application page in this application which reads this session variables and  perform some operation in a custom sql db. But i am unable to read these session variables on page load of this  application page.
am unable to debug also. so, would like to know is there any way i can see, what values  are getting passed to this page and verify the session variables are accessed correctly.
or
is this  by design, that its not possible to read session variables in the application page ?
if i am not having a visual studio env. to debug, how to test these  session variable  existence / to find the root cause of this issue.
note: already configured session state in IIS , http  modules section. am using Page.Session["myvariable1"].tostring() to fetch the  session variables.
help is appreciated!

i have found out myself. i have put  page.response.write(mysessionvariables) in the code and deployed and tested in my env. and i was able to find out the reason and i have fixed it with proper validation check.

  • Passing values to session variables from another application

    Hi,
    From an external application we are passing username and password for accessing the OBIEE Dashboard.In the url call we are passing NQUser and NQPassword. This is working fine.
    To setup data level security we need to pass region id list also as request object. Then we can filter the tables by the value in the region id list for that user. If we use external table to pass the home_id list then the application is working fine by setting up row-wise init block. But we need request object from an external application to send the list. How can we accept the list from OBIEE RPD?
    In the documentation it mentions about session variables - non system. But it requires an init block. How can we create a variable that accepts the values when user logins just like NQUser and NQPassword.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks.

    Yes, this absolutely possible. You can get the details from the Web Services guide since it has all the necessary examples and more explanation. Thats why i did not include it in the blog. You can get it from page 213 of the Docs http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B40078_02/doc/bi.1013/b31766.pdf

  • Session variable not passing between pages

    Hi, I've got a form that calculates checkbox values and puts them in a total field called txtTotal. When the user clicks send, I need to pass the total to a payment page.  The form page has PHP
    session_start();
    $_SESSION['sessTotal'] = $_POST['txtTotal'];
    and the payment page has
    session_start(); at the top of the page and <?php echo $_SESSION['sessTotal']; ?> where I want the total to display. The total does not carry over to the payment page and I can't work out why.

  • Session Variables Randomly  Lost between Pages

    My web page uses a session to keep track of who logged in.
    What I noticed is that the session variables stored appears and
    disappears randomly on different pages. The wierd thing is that my
    code is very simple.
    For the life of me I can not figure this out....

    I go through a hosting company and do not expect them to do
    any load balancing.
    What are sticky sessions?
    The cflocation tag also has the addtoken="yes" to it now and
    symptoms persist.
    I tested the case with
    sessiontimeout=#CreateTimeSpan(0,2,0,0)# instead of the
    sessiontimeout=#CreateTimeSpan(0,0,120,0)# and symptoms still
    persist.
    Any other suggestions? I think I ran into a wall
    here....

  • Clear session state for related application/page

    I have an application item I want to clear and I am not sure what is
    the correct session state process type to select
    I am reading about the different state process but I am not sure.
    I thought it was
    Clear Cache for Items (ITEM,ITEM,ITEM) but this item has to be on a page.
    What would be the appropriate one to select to clear an application item
    Clear Cache For Applications (removes all session state for listed applications)
    Clear Cache For Current Application (removes all session state for current application)
    Clear Cache For Current Session (removes all state for current session)
    Clear Cache for Items (ITEM,ITEM,ITEM)
    Clear Cache for all Items on Pages (PageID,PageID,PageID)
    Reset Preferences (remove all preferences for current user)
    Set Preference to value of Item (PreferenceName:ITEM)
    Set Preference to value of Item if item is not null (PreferenceName:ITEM)

    How do I name the application item.. I tried the following.
    itemName
    :itemName
    application:itemName
    and neither of these 2 work. Did I miss anything.

  • Unable to fetch database table from webdynpro application

    Hello,
    I have a Webdynpro application trying to fetch data from the database table. I have used the following code to get the connection to the database and execute the sql statement.
              InitialContext dbInitContext = new InitialContext();
              Properties sysProperties = System.getProperties();
              String sysname = sysProperties.getProperty("SAPSYSTEMNAME");
              String dbName = "jdbc/" + "SAP" + sysname + "DB";
              DataSource dataSource = (DataSource) dbInitContext.lookup(dbName);
              Connection conn = dataSource.getConnection();
              String SelectStmt = "Select * from INV_CUSTOMER";
              PreparedStatement stmt = conn.prepareStatement(SelectStmt);
              ResultSet resultSet = stmt.executeQuery();
    I logged into the database using user superdba in sqlcli, and created the table "INV_CUSTOMER". I am trying to run this application in my sneak preview java installation which comes with maxdb 7.6. But when I run the app, it always throws up the error:
    The SQL statement "SELECT * FROM "INV_CUSTOMER"" contains the semantics error[s]: - 1:15 - the table or view >>INV_CUSTOMER<< does not exist
    I am new to this concept, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    It seems to me like there is more than one issue here. Let me try and help you out with some details.
    1.) If you have created the Dictionary project and the code in your original post is not giving you problems then it's good. However, the problem of the data disappearing from your Java Dictionary seems little bit wierd. You need to ensure that you are not running any "delete" command and ensure that the select statement (of it has and conditions) is correct.
    2.) As far as where the tables actually reside: When you create the Dictionary tables in a Dictionary Project-  this will actually create a script that will be run on the server that has an installed database (like Oracle, MSSQL Server or MaxDB, UDB). This means that the dictionary tables are just an abstraction of actual database tables.
    In order to ensure that you are not deleting the data - debug your Web Dynpro Application or EJB so that you can go through it step by step and see whether all the database statements are correct. Sometimes you may not get an SQL error due to a NullPointer in the dynamic queries as well - so keep a check on that as well.
    If you require a more detailed solution - please give us a small piece of code that we can analyse.
    Hope that helps.
    Thanks.,

  • Unable to filter a recordset using a session  variable

    I have a volunteer application page and when the volunteer presses <Submit> their info is saved in a MySQl db table and a session variable is created containing the primary key of their record in the table, control is then passed to a "success page". The success page can access the session variable (I proved this by displaying the session variable on the success page) so my next step was to create a recordset in the success page with a filter using the session variable to select the appropriate row in the table, allowing me to display to the volunteer the info they submitted.
    I set up a test success page which displays the session variable and one field of the volunteer info. When I test this I see the session variable displayed but the corresponding volunteer info field from the recordset is not displayed.
    The volunteer application page is here www.hollisterairshow.com/volunteerapp.php and the successpage is here www.hollisterairshow.com/thanksvol.php
    The code that creates the session variable in the volunteer application page is shown below
    $_SESSION['volunteer_id'] = mysql_insert_id();
    The code to display the session variable in the success page is shown below
    <?php  echo $_SESSION['volunteer_id']; ?>
    The code to display the volunteer info is shown below
    <h1> Thank You <?php echo $row_rsVolunteerApp['firstname']; ?>!! </h1>
    The recordset definition is shown below
    The success page test result is shown below, as you can see the volunteer's first name is not displayed immediately after the "Thank you" message but the session variable holding the correct primary key (41) is shown correctly.
    Does anyone have an idea of what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Tony

    Where did you put session_start()? It needs to be before the variable is accessed. It's obviously before the line that displays the value in your page, but is it before the SQL query is generated?
    Also, have you checked in phpMyAdmin to see whether volunteernumber 41 has any values in the database?

  • Help Needed in checking session variable

    In a sample site, I am calling a bounded task flow from an unbounded task flow. In the called taskflow the default activity is a router which checks the session variable, and the home page will be loaded only if the session variable is not null. If session variable is null router will lead to a page dispalying 'session expired'. But even after clearing the session if I copy pasted the previous url, the home page is loading. But when I call bounded taskflow from a bounded taskflow, it is working fine. Can anyone suggest any solution? Thanks in advance

    Thanks for the reply. I'm using jdev 11.1.1.5.0.. I'm just trying with a sample example. I have a login page and when the user logins, the user name is stored in session. the loginpage view activity is in adfc config unbounded taskflow. The login credentials is validated in a backing bean and based on the return value, if the login is valid, a bounded taskflow 'hometaskflow' is called. In this bounded taskflow, the default activity is a router wchich checks the username stored in session. If the username is not null it will lead to the 'homepage' view. Else if it is null it will lead to a 'sessionexpired' view.
    In the java class of login page I'm accessing the session variable as shown
    public Username getSessionBean()
    Username username =
    (Username)resolveExpression("#{Username}");
    return username;
    public static Object resolveExpression(String expression)
    FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    Application app = facesContext.getApplication();
    ExpressionFactory elFactory = app.getExpressionFactory();
    ELContext elContext = facesContext.getELContext();
    ValueExpression valueExp =
    elFactory.createValueExpression(elContext, expression,
    Object.class);
    return valueExp.getValue(elContext);
    On login button click the function being executed is as shown
    public String onLoginClick() {
    if(String.valueOf(itUserName.getValue()).equals("admin")
    && String.valueOf(itPassword.getValue()).equals("admin"))
    Username username=getSessionBean();
    username.setUsername(itUserName.getValue().toString());
    return "success";
    else {
    return "invalid";
    And to set username as null on logout, I used this function on logout click
    public void clearSession()
    Username username=getSessionBean();
    username.setUsername(null);
    The EL expression used to check the value of session variable is
    #{sessionScope.Username.username==null} outcome is expired
    #{sessionScope.Username.username!=null} outcome is active
    This worked when I used in a bounded taskflow, which is being called from another bounded taskflow. But not working in this scenario...

  • Session variables being lost

    In my onApplicationStart method (which should tell you I'm
    using an Application.cfC, not cfM), I have a cfif loop that passes
    a value to a custom tag and returns a form variable. I'm then
    reassigning that variable to a session variable. In IE, this works
    just fine; in Firefox, though, the session variable is NOT being
    set.
    What might be causing this, and is there a workaround?

    The issue referred to an external CF custom tag, which called
    another demo application to set a testing user. However, after
    further testing, I realize that demo app won't function properly
    with this application, so I've removed it.
    Authentication is being set by an LDAP query; this
    application that I am working on is going to be a sub-application
    of a larger application, and the authenticated user is being set as
    a session variable as well (I think...). However, I'm creating a
    new session variable for this application, and simply passing the
    authenticated user into my app (the outer app uses the variable
    auth_user; I'm using the variable authuser, so there is no name
    conflict).
    Again, it is IE that is not persisting the session. Firefox
    is doing so. I have looked in the advanced settings for IE, and
    there is nothing about persisting session variables to check or
    uncheck. Also, this application will probably be used mostly by
    users using IE 6 with default settings, so I'm going to need to
    find a workaround for IE.
    Your help is most appreciated.

  • Use of Session Variable in Dashboard Page XML

    Hi All,
    Can we use a Session variable in the Dashboard Page XML?
    My Requirement is,
    There are 1000+ users, each user will have access to same dashboard. But a different report in the same dashboard.
    So we want to Save individual user reports in the location /users/LOGIN_NAME/Financials/ABC
    and dynamically change the Dashboard Page XML, to accept Session Variable VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.USER) in place of LOGIN_NAME.
    So that for each user, they will see only their report.

    On the face of it, Session is ideal for this, however this is SharePoint and the obvious isn't always the best.
    You'd need to do the calculation about memory usage and number of concurrent users to ensure it really is a viable option in Production.
    If it isn't viable, or wouldn't scale to possible future usage what would you do? Then you need to ask if it's really necessary to move between pages? If the user needs to move through a dialog for example, that could be hosted on a single page which might
    have different controls or sections made visible as the user progressed through the use case.
    Passing data between pages in SharePoint is a lot more difficult than it should be. Sometimes it's best to stay put, and certainly safer than using Session if you're really not sure if Session will stop your solution from scaling.
    Always remember, SharePoint might be hosted on ASP.NET but the design considerations are significantly different than if this were a pure ASP.NET application.

  • Can you pass a session variable in a CFC bind?

    I have a page (dsp_compReqSCM.cfm) that (via a session variable) displays an application value.  From this page (via a CFFORM) I would like to have that session variable passed along to a cfc(getDistinct.cfc).  I can't quite get the syntax correct and am hoping to get some assistance.  When I code #session.this_appl# in dsp_ReqComps.cfm, I get an error stating Element not found PTS (which is the value of session.this_appl) and that the bind cannot occur.  If I pass session.this_appl (NO ##) in dsp_ReqComps.cfm, I get an error stating Element not found session and that the bind cannot occur.   If I pass 'session.this_appl' or "session.this_appl" in dsp_ReqComps.cfm, I get an error stating Element not found 'session (or "session) and that the bind cannot occur.
    dsp_compReqSCM.cfm calls dsp_ReqComps.cfm via cfform

    Libby H.

    @Libby H
    There are 2 things.
    1) The name of the component the grid binds to(distinctComponents) is different from the name of the CFC(getDistinct).
    2) Session variables are also available to components. There is therefore no need to pass them explicitly to a function. In any case, it is always advisable to test for the existence of a session variable before using it.
    Your code would then be something like
    <cfform>
         <cfgrid name="componentsGrid"
                 format="html"
                 pagesize=10
                 striperows="yes"

  • What is session variables in BSP

    Hi
    I am using using IC Webclient. can anyone help me to findout the details about session varibales ?
    Best Regards
    Bhavishya

    hi,
    Session variables is a handy way to define a persistent variable.The standard variables used in ColdFusion can be only transferred or sent to the next page before it is necessary to restate the variable. In some situations, you may want to define a variable that will apply to all the pages during a single session of the user. An example is when the pages a user sees are personalized to his or her specific needs. In such a case, session variables are defined and used.
    Session variable persistent
    A session variable is one of several types of variables that persist across multiple templates:
    >Server variables - Accessible by all clients and applications on a single
    >Application variables - Tied to a single application and accessible by multiple clients
    >Client variables - Tied to a single client over multiple sessions
    >Session variables - Exist for one client or browser during a single session
    >Cookie variables
    Session variables are designed to hold information that you seldom write but are read often.
    Defining session variables
    Session variables are normally defined in the Application template, but can be also defined on all applicable pages.
    Application template
    The standard method of using session variables is to define them in the application.cfm template, which is a special ColdFusion page that is processed before the other pages in a session. It usually should be in the session root directory.
    CFAPPLICATION tag
    To enable the use of session variables, as well as client and application management, you should use the CFAPPLICATION tag in the Application template. A typical tag would be:
    <CFAPPLICATION NAME="Name"
    SESSIONMANAGEMENT="Yes"
    SESSIONTIMEOUT="#CreateTimeSpan(0, 0, 20, 0)#">
    where:
    >NAME is required to avoid problems if you have session variables tied to separate applications.
    >SESSIONMANAGEMENT is required to enable the session variables.
    >SESSIONTIMEOUT is optional and limits the time the variables will stay in memory (20 minutes in the example) Note that the default is 20 minutes, so you really may not need this unless you want to change that number.
    Setting variables
    After the CFAPPLICATION tag, you can set your session variables, using the CFSET tag. You must always refer to session variables with the prefix session. Thus, you could define a session variable, such as:
    <CFSET session.name="#form.othername#">
    Should lock variables
    You should lock the session variables to avoid problems when several people are using the system at the same time. An example of this is:
    <CFLOCK TIMEOUT="30" NAME="#session.sessionID#" TYPE="Exclusive">
    <CFSET session.name="#form.othername#">
    </CFLOCK>
    Defined on applicable pages
    A problem in using the Application.cfm template is that it is often difficult to change your session variables, once they have been set. An alternative is to use the CFAPPLICATION tag in each applicable page:
    <CFAPPLICATION NAME="Name"
    SESSIONMANAGEMENT="Yes">
    You then can define the session variable in the first page, accessed:
    <CFOUTPUT QUERY="return">
    <CFSET session.ID="#ID#">
    </CFOUTPUT>
    This is a compromise between the standard method and defining the variable on each page.
    Example of use
    Suppose a user logged in to the site. His name could be sent through a form and entered in Application.cfm. Then the session will constantly refer to him by name.
    Application.cfm
    <CFAPPLICATION NAME="Name"
    SESSIONMANAGEMENT="Yes">
    <CFSET session.name="#form.othername#">
    Start.cfm
    <CFOUTPUT>
    <H1>Hello #session.name#</H1>
    </CFOUTPUT>

  • Using session variables

    I use this session variable in an application.
    <CFSET Session.CPActive = True>
    I thought that the variable would be deleted when I close the
    browser.
    When I open a new browser window the Session.CPActive is
    still defined and True!!??
    Any comments on this?

    What is a session?
    A session refers to all the connections that a single client
    might make to a server in the course of viewing any pages
    associated with a given application. Sessions are specific to both
    the individual user and the application. As a result, every user of
    an application has a separate session and has access to a separate
    set of session variables.
    This logical view of a session begins with the first
    connection to an application by a client and ends after that
    client's last connection. However, because of the stateless nature
    of the web, it is not always possible to define a precise point at
    which a session ends. A session should end when the user finishes
    using an application. In most cases, however, a web application has
    no way of knowing if a user has finished or is just lingering over
    a page.
    Therefore, sessions always terminate after a time-out period
    of inactivity. If the user does not access a page of the
    application within this time-out period, ColdFusion interprets this
    as the end of the session and clears any variables associated with
    that session.
    The default time-out for session variables is 20 minutes. You
    can change the default time-out on the Memory Variables page in the
    Server Settings area in the ColdFusion MX Administrator.
    You can also set the time-out period for session variables
    inside a specific application (thereby overruling the Administrator
    default setting) by setting the Application.cfc This.sessionTimeout
    variable or by using the cfapplication tag sessionTimeout
    attribute. However, you cannot set a time-out value for that is
    greater than the maximum session time-out value set on the
    Administrator Memory Variables page.
    For detailed information on ending sessions and deleting
    session variables, see Ending a session.

  • Session variable causing ADODB.Field error '800a0bcd'

    i have a page that before the session variable was added,
    would display the
    text i required if the recordset was empty.
    Now i have a session variable on the same page and if the
    recordset is
    empty, instead of showing the text i need displayed, i get
    the following
    error:
    ADODB.Field error '800a0bcd'
    Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been
    deleted. Requested
    operation requires a current record.
    /Help_Desk/verified.asp, line 31
    If i remove the session variable code from the page, it works
    fine.....why
    the conflicts?

    =(rsVerify.Fields.Item("c_last_name").Value)%>
    <%Session("first")
    =(rsVerify.Fields.Item("c_first_name").Value)%>
    <html>
    What im doing is verifying if a user exists in the database.
    If they do
    there name is stored in a session and used later on the
    following pages. If
    they do not exist, they are suppose to receive a message
    indicating to call
    our support center to update there name...
    I dont understand why the addition of the above two lines
    cause this error
