Unable to find known Solaris bug (1084772)?

Hi all,
I'm currently facing an issue with my connectivity between SunOS 5.8 with Oracle.
However I've stumbled upon sites (referenced below) that quoted this "known" Solaris Bug which ties in strongly with the problem I am having.
<Solaris only> Problem Description ------------------- You have a JDBC program connecting to the database. This program may run standalone or on a webserver. This program opens many simultaneous connections to the database. The following error occurs on or near the 257th connection: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name All of the following symptoms apply: - Solaris OS - Oracle JDBC/OCI driver - ORA-12154 Error - Failure occurs on 257th connection between JDBC client and Oracle server. - Same program works on a non-Solaris OS, exceeding the 257th connection. Solution Description -------------------- This is a known Solaris bug (1084772). Contact Sun for further information and/or possible patch. As a workaround, you can hardcode the full tns description in the JDBC/OCI connection string. This avoids the need to read the tnsnames.ora file. This will not eliminate the problem, but should free up more file descriptors for your use, thus deferring failure until later. jdbc:oracle:oci8:@(description=(address=(host=pepper)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(sid=ORCL))) Explanation ----------- The OS file descriptor limit is being reached. Thus, the tnsnames.ora file cannot be read to resolve the tns alias suppled to the connection string. References ---------- http://sunsolve.sun.com bug (1084772) Summary: Although the limit for file descriptors is 1024, you  cannot open more than 256 fd's using stdio.h. (This is not an Oracle bug.) note:94091.1 Example: Identifying Connection String Problems in JDBC bug:777647 When Opening > 253 File Descriptors and Then Connection bug:2060739 ORA-12154 After Creating 220+ Connections Using Thick (OCI8) JDBC Driver </solaris only>
However when I tried to search for this bug on sunsolve I am not able to find this at all.
Could someone please enlighten me? Is this a real bug or is it some hokey poky?
Thanks

"The following error occurs on or near the 257th connection:"
There may actually be a bug in the vendor software, but I doubt your application should ever have a need for more than a handful of connections much less 257 connections if you are using connection pooling. Therefore I suggest you look at your application and make sure its using connection pooling and that you are
getting a connection, using it, and closing it all within a try/catch/finally block rather than worry about the vendor bug. Here is a rough outline of
using a connection (all within the same function you your sure the finally block is called, where the conneciton is obtained ,used, and close as quickly as possible):
Connection conn=null;
try{
conn= //get connection
}catch( Exception e){
}finally{
//close connection.
Lets suppose you have 100 people using your application and the above code is called if they hit an 'update' button. The chances of all 100 of them hitting
the update button within the same 10 milliseconds or so for the above code to complete is very very small.
Chances are most of them are spending 99.9993% of the time looking at the web page than clicking the update button. My off the wall guess is that only
2 or 3 people out of 100 will ever access the code at the same 10 milliseconds. Therefore your connection pool only needs 3 connections on stand by.

  • BUG? "ERR-1002 Unable to find item ID..." on branch on upgrading 3.0 to 4.0

    I'm testing the waters prior to upgrading a customer application from APEX 3.0.0.00.20 to 4.0.2.00.07.
    The application has been exported from the APEX 3.0 environment on a 4.0 instance on a different server. Both databases are 10.2.0.4.0 EE.
    A on navigating&mdash;via a standard tab&mdash;to a page containing only conditional On Load: Before Header branches, the branches are failing with
    Unexpected error, unable to find item name at application or page level.
    Error: ERR-1002 Unable to find item ID for item "p810_status" in application "121". This is caused by the branch action having Set these items item names specified in lower case:
    p810_status,p810_read_onlyThe error is resolved by changing these item names to UPPER CASE.
    This is not a disaster. Using APEX views I can see that there are only a handful of branches specifying item names in lower case so it won't require major effort to fix this app when it's upgraded for real.
    However, (a) I am aware that there are other places in this app where item names are specified in lower case; and (b) I tend to type most of my development stuff in lower case, so I'd like clarification on this issue.
    <li>Is this a known issue? (Can't find any earlier mention of this on OTN, MOS or web)
    <li>Is this expected behaviour in APEX 4.x or a bug?
    <li>If a bug is it fixed in 4.1?
    <li>Is there a change in APEX 4.0 requiring branch item (and other?) references to be uppercase? If so, where is this documented?
    I notice that it works OK when the same item values are specified in the URL using lowercase item names.

    I noticed that APEX 4.0.2 has converted all branches to use the [now] late, lamented "Set value before branching" option. Is this significant? Obviously this won't occur if upgrading to 4.1.

    Hi Lukx,
    Thank you for reporting this. You have hit upon an issue with this page, for which I have filed Oracle bug #11840642. To get around this in the meantime, you can see page specific changes by going to:
    1) The 'Page Definition' page for the page you want to see recent edits.
    2) Go to 'Utilities > History'. This will show you recent actions for components on the current page.
    Hope that helps and thanks again for catching this.
    Regards,
    Anthony.

    Patrick -
    I decided to drop back and implement the demo to change the email address on my EBS login per the 2015 white paper.
    Something is definitely wrong here..
    The FND: APEX URL Profile option is set to: http://appstest4.fubar.com:7001/ords
    The Function to call the pag is set toe: GWY.jsp?targetAppType=APEX&p=110:1:::::EBS_RESP_ID, EBS_APP_ID,EBS_SEC_GROUP:[RESPONSIBILITY_ID],[RESP_APPL_ID],[SECURITY_GROUP_ID]
    When I call the page though, the URL is http://appstest4.fubar.com:7001/ords/f?p=110:LOGIN_DESKTOP::::::
    Is is possible the jsp is not the correct one?

  • [Solved] Unable to find root device

    Hi guys,
    it's been three days now that my laptop refuses to boot with a message from systemd like this:
    ERROR: device 'UUID=xxx...' not found. Skipping fsck.
    ERROR: Unable to find root device 'UUID=xxx...'.
    You are being dropped to a recovery shell.
    That said, keep in mind that I'm saying "three days" just because it's in the past two days that I've spent most of the time searching in the Internet for a solution of what seems just to be a well-known, very common problem, especially when it arises after a kernel upgrade (as in my case).
    But believe me, I've been trying this and that through the live Arch Linux environment, but without the slightest improvement: regeneration of the initramfs, regeneration of /etc/fstab, reconfiguration of GRUB (although this was clearly unhelpful, since the problem arises when the kernel has already been booted), small changes in the hooks in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf, small changes to some modules loaded at boot, downgrading linux... Nothing works.
    I'm now writing from another computer, so I cannot post the entire output of useful commands now, but if you need to know something I will give you the necessary information.
    In the meanwhile, notice that I use Linux LVM partition with logical volumes formatted with Btrfs, without encryption.
    It's strange that even with the dowgrade from Linux 3.18.3 (the one after whose installation the system was unusable) to 3.18.2 the problem still remains.
    However, the only thing I managed to take from my system is the output of dmesg, obtained from the recovery shell, after having set the debug settings for systemd in the kernel command line before booting.

    Guys, I think I've found the strange thing.
    First, in the recovery shell, when I type "lvm lvscan", it prints:
    WARNING: lvmetad is running but disabled. Restart lvmetad before enabling it!
    and then it says that all four my logical volumes root,boot,home and var are inactive.
    So I tried to set them up manually, with "lvm vgchange -a y", and guess what happened: I was able to boot!
    I still haven't managed to understand the real causes of this problem, but basically it seems that I have the same problem explained here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=184340.
    The only difference is that there the OP says to have solved the problem with an upgrade to Linux 3.15.7, while it appeared to me with the upgrade to 3.18.3, and as I said it doesn't go away neither with a downgrade nor with another upgrade to version 3.18.4

    I am trying to install Oracle 10g on Solaris 10 (SPARC) using the OUI and receive the following error towards the beginning of the install.

    Please respond if you have encountered this error and what you did to resolve it.
    Thanks

    Of course, thoroughly. Ok. Like I said, it surprising how often people don't check that, so we always ask first.
    Have you run into this error,
    or a similar one, before? No. Have installed 9.2 on several Solaris boxes without a problem, so have not directly seen this one.
    Do you have an applicable

  • Whenever I try to open a certain document on Microsoft word it keeps saying it is unable to find the document. How do I find it?

    I typed a 10 page paper. And when I went to submit it to my class online the document was grey and it had no information and it wouldn't let me open it; like it was corrupted. When I do click on it, it says that Microsoft Word is unable to find my document.
    When I click would you like to locate it yourself, it brings me to all my documents but it is no where to be found on my computer. How do I retrieve it?

    Hi Jessica,
    From where did you open the file for editing originally? Have you saved it properly before you submit it?
    As Paul mentioned above, in some cases, corrupted documents are rarely recoverable. Do you have a backup of that file? Or elaborate a little bit about your situation for further assistance.

  • Unable to find the Adobe PDF resource file

    I am unable to create PDF files from a Microsoft office document.  I am operating Windows 8.1 and Adobe professional XI.  I received the following error message: unable to find "Adobe PDF" resource file "Adobe PDF maker."  I have followed the previous threads with known issues for Adobe X however, I have never installed Adobe X and I was able to create PDF documents from Microsoft office documents up until approximately 2 weeks ago.

    I started having this problem yesterday. A few days ago I was having issues and notice that I had 2 versions of Acrobat XI (Creative Cloud) installed.  I started to uninstall one of the versions (in Windows Control Panel) and it took forever. I canceled the process and restarted the computer. Acrobat seemed to be working normally, but I was unable to create PDF files from Word, and received the resource files message listed above. In addition, I cannot print to a PDF any longer. Distiller is set to "standard." I am trying to run repair, but the Windows process circle keeps turning and has been for over 30 minutes. I have no idea whether Acrobat is repairing anything, or whether I should terminate the process and do something else. Any ideas?

    Hi Lukx,
    Thank you for reporting this.

  • ERR-1002 Unable to find item ID for item "F145_QUERY" in application "4000"

    Hi all,
    First I will give you an overview:
    APEX version: 3.2.1.00.10
    DB Version: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0
    Now the problem description:
    I have a report region of type: Function body returning sql_query.
    After the sql_query is written into a variable, I would like to fill an application_item or page_item. The problem is, it is returning the error:
    ERR-1002 Unable to find item ID for item "F145_QUERY" in application "4000"
    After that I tried to create a stored function (return varchar2, because a sql_query is generated) which has got the same structure. Also I am trying to fill the session state of the application item.
    Then I am just having the following code in my report region:
    declare
    q varchar2(30000);
    begin
    q := function_name;
    return q;
    end;
    Funciton example:
    create function simple_example return varchar2 is
    q varchar2(30000);
    begin
    q := 'select sysdate from dual';
    apex_util.set_session_state('F145_QUERY', q);
    return q;
    end;
    But even then I am getting the error.
    Is it a bug? And how can I solve the problem?
    Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
    Denise

    Hi Scott,
    most of the time the obvious solution is the best, I agree.
    But I have checked that one, before I posted the thread ;-)
    And yes, the error message really says Application 4000. That is, why I am so confused, cause I know that that is the APEX itself.
    The actual code is written within the report region. As I said, I tried 2 versions.
    The second version is explained above and the first version was the code within the report region:
    declare
    q varchar2(30000);
    begin
    q := 'select sysdate from dual';
    :F145_QUERY := q;
    return q;
    end;
    The report region is a normal report with source_type = Function_returning_sql_query.
    That is all I know, and now I hoping to find someone who has got an explanation or a even a solution for this. :-)
    Thanks,
    Best regards,
    Denise

  • Error: ERR-1002 Unable to find item ID for item "APP_SESSION"

    Hello all,
    I created an application for faculty in HTMLDB 1.6.
    To get to the application faculty members log into a different website, and then follow a link to my application. The link re-directs them to a public page which pulls their unique ID from a cookie stored by the first website. After their ID is found they are automatically logged in, or if the ID is not present they are redirected to the main login page.
    A few faculty members have tested the automatic login with success. One member, though, followed the same steps, but when he clicked on the link and was re-directed to the application he recieved an error "error: ERR-1002 Unable to find item ID for item 'APP_SESSION'."
    As for the code, the code first retrieves the cookie and gets the ID from it. The variable term_id is then set to the correct term value. This term value depends on what term was selected from the previous application. The term value may or may not be null (they are not required to select a term prior to being re-directed). If it is null, the faculty member is brought to a term selection page. If it is not null, the faculty member skips this step and moves on to the next page. These steps are known to work properly.
    This plsql code follows directly after, which should login the user and either redirect him/her to the term select page if the term value is null, or the main page if there is a term value present:
    IF term_id IS NOT NULL THEN
    wwv_flow_custom_auth_std.login(
    P_UNAME => faculty_id,
    P_PASSWORD => faculty_password,
    P_SESSION_ID => v('APP_SESSION'),
    P_FLOW_PAGE => :APP_ID||':MAIN_PAGE:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::TERM_ID:'||term_id
    ELSE
    wwv_flow_custom_auth_std.login(
    P_UNAME => faculty_id,
    P_PASSWORD => faculty_password,
    P_SESSION_ID => v('APP_SESSION'),
    P_FLOW_PAGE => :APP_ID||':TERM_SELECT_PAGE:'||:APP_SESSION
    END IF;
    owa_util.redirect_url('f?p=FACULTY_APP:LOGIN:&SESSION_ID.');
    The last part redirects them to the login page if all else fails
    Any idea why one faculty member would receive the message "error: ERR-1002 Unable to find item ID for item 'APP_SESSION'" while others would not?
    *NOTE: All variable and alias names here are not the actual names within the application.

    Ah, i see. I thought you only had to use v('APP_SESSION') in the login function while assigned the value of P_SESSION_ID, but I was wrong.
    Thanks a lot Scott! It works perfectly now.

  • Sun Studio is unable to find a supported version of the NetBeans IDE at the

    I'm following the system install instructions in the Grid Compute Utility guide, Appendix A "Building a Local Development Environment" and am getting stuck on step 4, installing sunstudio. I'm running Solaris 5.10 on x86 and can run netbeans IDE without problem. Here is some info, I'm not sure what other system info is relevant:
    bash-3.00# which netbeans
    /opt/netbeans-5.5.1/bin/netbeans
    bash-3.00# which sunstudio
    /usr/bin/sunstudio
    bash-3.00# sunstudio
    Validating NetBeans IDE at: "/opt/SUNWspro/../netbeans-5.5.1"
    Sun Studio is unable to find a supported version of the NetBeans IDE at the specified location.
    Sun Studio requires a NetBeans IDE version 5.5.1 with NetBeans C/C++ Development Pack version 5.5.1
    installed. Sun Studio looks for a valid NetBeans IDE installation in the following order:
    1) Location specified with --netbeanshome command line option
    2) At /opt/netbeans-5.5.1 location, if exists
    3) At /opt/SUNWspro/../netbeans-5.5.1 location, if exists
    4) At /opt/SUNWspro/../../netbeans-5.5.1 location, if exists
    Please run the System Preparation Tool (prepare_system), if available, to set up your environment.
    Any help!?

    Did you install NetBeans separately or let Sun Studio installer do it? The latter usually results in working configuration.
    I think that NetBeans installation simply doesn't have c++ pack; you can install one following usual NetBeans modules installation path and then re-try starting Sun Studio.
    Another option is to uninstall NetBeans and re-install Sun Studio using its installer, which should set up NetBeans properly.
