  • Service of newly created database won't start if XE service already started

    Hi all,
I install OracleXE 10g on WinXP SP1 and the default database (XE) is running well. Then I created a new database through TOAD but its window service won't start if XE service already started. If I shutdown the XE service than I can start the service of newly created database. This happens vice versa. When I forced to start the service of the new database with XE service already running windows told me to refer to service-specific error code 183.
But even if I'm able to start the service of the new database when I try to login using SYSTEM sometime it throws 'Oracle not available' and sometime 'shared memory realm does not exist'.

I also check the folder %ORACLE_BASE%\oradata\CASHIN folder but I found no single file there. While under oradata\XE I found 6 dbf's files.

Then I created a new database through TOADDid you read the part in the license agreement that says XE doesn't support multiple instances?

  • Unable to access table even after creating Database link

    Hi
I have created a data base link.It was created properly.
The Syantax that I have used is follows:
create database link X_link connect to User1 identified by User1 using 'Other_Database'
    And on running the query:
    select count(*) from table1@X_link
I am getting the error as follows:
TNS could not resolve the connect identifier specified... TNS: could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
Please tell me where is the problem?
    Thanks in Advance

Your database link does not work because the entry you used does not exist in the tnsnames.ora in the database $ORACLE_HOME.
Login to the database server, set the environment, and try to tnsping the entry you used for the database link, then fix the tnsnames.ora file (probably in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin)
You can test a database link using :-
    select sysdate from dual@link;

  • Public Folder Mailbox causes database failover Exchange 2013

Hi , we are completing a migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  All was going swimmingly until we migrated our legacy public folders.  Now every now and again ( once a day generally ) the Exchange Database hosting the Public Folder Mailbox
crashes and fails over to another DAG member.
We are using CU5 and our old 2007 server is offline but not removed from the organization yet.
The error message is as follows :
    Event ID 1013
The mailbox with mailboxguid "xxxxxxxxxxxx" caused crash or resource outage on database (GUID="xxxxxxxxxxx")
    along with :
    Event ID 1001
Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store has encountered an internal logic error. Internal error text is (Unable to apply maintenance GetNonKeyColumnValuesForPrimaryKey-norow, index corruption?) with a call stack of (   at Microsoft.Exchange.Server.Storage.Common.ErrorHelper.AssertRetail(Boolean

    and :

The Mailbox Guild matches the Public Folder Mailbox GUID and the Database GUID matches the Database where the mailbox is mounted.
The error seems to be the same as this question :

However I'm after a bit more concrete information as to what actually causes this and if an upgrade to CU6 is required.  This link appears to suggest moving the mailbox will help.  Has anyone else come across this with CU5 and will a mailbox move
    correct it ?

  • Unable to send to external email recipients - Multi Tenant Exchange 2013 - MultiRole servers in DAG

Greetings all, I hope someone can help.
I have created a Exchange 2013 multi-tenant organization, with two servers, both multi-role - CAS and Mailbox roles.
Internal mail flow is fine (external email addresses can send to the domain).
External firewall port forwards ports 443 and 25 to the Internal DAG IP address.
There are two multi-role Exchange servers that are members of the DAG.
I am able to connect to OWA and ECP via https://externalIP/OWA and https://alias.domain.com/OWA
No SSL certificates have been purchased or installed yet.
Exchange URLs have not been changed since default configuration at install.
OWA and ECP works both internal and external.

I have created new Send Connectors for the server that is advising that it is unable to relay, but they have all failed.
I have tried setting the Internal IP address for Exhange Server 1 (Exchange Server 2 reports failure), with most combinations of Security (Anonymous, Exchange Users, etc).
I have also tried with the IP range 192.168.11.0/24 to allow the whole the subnet, I still receive the unable to relay failure notice.
I have tried this guide - hxxps://glazenbakje.wordpress.com/2012/12/30/exchange-2013-how-to-configure-an-internal-relay-connector/ - with different combinations, still no resolution.
I am at a loss as to why I can't send out with the default configuration. I would assume that email would flow out without any changes, but this does not happen.
Can someone please assist before I lose my sanity.
    Thanks in advance,

Greetings all, I hope someone can help.
I have created a Exchange 2013 multi-tenant organization, with two servers, both multi-role - CAS and Mailbox roles.
    Internal mail flow is fine.
Incoming mail from external senders is also fine. -
external email addresses can send to the domain).
External DNS works with SPF and PTR records correctly configured
Exchange RCA - Send test only fails with one Spam Listing (this Blacklist provider now flags all domains and you cannot ask to be removed)
Receive Connectors are the default ones created during install. Send connector is standard configuration with  - * -

Even more info - Further troubleshooting -
I found my one of my Exchange servers had an extra NIC. I have since added a second NIC to the other server, so now both Exchange servers have dual NICs. I removed the DAG cleanly and recreated the DAG from scratch, using this link -
    hxxp://careexchange.in/how-to-create-a-database-availability-group-in-exchange-2013/
The issue still exists, even with a newly created DAG. I also found that the Tenant Address Books were not 'applied'. I applied them but still no resolution
I think the issue is related to multi-tenant configuration even though the error says that it can't relay. The unable to relay message can appear when sending from a domain that the Organization does not support. Like trying to email as [email protected]
when you domain name is apple.com - But through extensive research I still can't resolve the issue.
Can someone please assist before I lose my sanity.

  • Large Mail.que database in Exchange 2013

    [Background]
Since Exchange 2013 is released, some user may come across the following situations:
The space of disk C is used up.
The transport service stops processing messages.
    The Mailbox server is crash.
In this case, the issue can be resolved with checking with the mail.que file which is in the following path on the Mailbox server:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Queue
    [Symptom]
The Mail.que file on all Exchange 2013 servers grows very large and it’s even over 20 GB.
    [Cause]
    It’s a by design behavior.
Different from the previous Exchange server, Safety Net which has the same function with the Transport dumpster in Exchange 2013 takes up the volume of the mail.que file and
it’s the feature which is responsible for the large size of the mail.que in Exchange 2013.
And here is a reference about the feature Safety Net in Exchange 2013:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj657495(v=exchg.150).aspx
    [Workarounds]
    1. Allocate large space for the Exchange 2013 installation or increase the volume for Exchange 2013.
These articles will also provide further detail of size calculating:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/05/14/released-exchange-2013-server-role-requirements-calculator.aspx

    (See section: “Transport storage requirements”)
    2. Moved queue database to another drive by using
    Move-DatabasePath
    3. Reduce the SafetyNetHoldTime and MessageExpirationTimeouton values to one day (default values are 2 days). And these commands can be in use:
    Set-TransportConfig SafetyNetHoldTime 1.00:00:00
    Get-TransportService | Set-TransportService -MessageExpirationTimeout 1.00:00:00

You cant move the queue database with move-databasepath. You have to follow this method:

  • What is the best backup plan for Archive Databases in Exchange 2013?

    Hi,
We have Exchange 2013 with Hybrid setup with O365.
We have On premise exchange 2013 servers with 3 copies of primary Database & Single Copy of Archival DBs.
Now we have to frame backup policy with Symantec Backup Exec which has to backup our primary & Archival DBs
In 2007 exchange, before migration to 2013, we had policy of DBs - Weekly Full backup & Monthly Full Backup
Please suggest what would be the best possible backup strategy we can follow with 2013 DBs.
That too, especially for Archiving DBs
Our Archiving Policy are - 3 category - Any emails older than 6 month OR 1 Year OR 2 Year should go to Archive mailbox.
Keeping this in mind how to design the backup policy ?
    Manju Gowda

    Hi Manju,
you do not find best practice different from the common backup guidelines, as there is no archive db specific behaviour. Your users may move items to their archive at any time as well as your retention policies may move items that machted the retention policies
at any time. The result is frequently changing content to both, mailbox and archive mailbox databases, so you need to backup both the same way. You also may handle archives together with mailboxes together in the mailbox db
Please keep in mind that backup usually means data availability in case of system failure. So you may consider to do a less frequent backup with your archive db with dependency to the "keep deleted items" (/mailboxes) setting on your mailbox database.
    Example:
    keep deleted items: 30 days
backup of archive db: every 14 days
    restore procedure:
    * restore archive DB content
    * add difference from recover deleted items (or Backup Exec single item recovery) for the missing 14 days.
So it depends more on your process than on a backup principle.

    Martin

  • Multiple domain mailboxes for one AD user in exchange 2013

I just wanted to make sure that this hasn't changed in exchange 2013 or if there's a better way to do this
we have a few users that need an email for companyA.com and CompanyB.com. For easy separation we've decided to create a separate mailbox for each email. Right now the only way i can figure how to easily associate both mailboxes with 1 AD user is to set up
their main email as their default mailbox, then create a shared mailbox and grant full permission for that user. Then in Outlook they have access to both accounts from 1 profile.
However I'm not sure how this would work for mobile access.  In Office365 connecting to 2 exchange accounts on a mobile device was pretty straight forward since each mailbox had a unique login. I know when a shared mailbox is created, a disabled user
is created in AD, I'm wondering if i can enable that account and then the user uses that login to connect to that account through their mobile device. Or maybe theres a simpler way to accomplish this goal?

we have a few users that need an email for companyA.com and CompanyB.com.
    Hi Derek,
Why not just create an additional email address for the users?
"You can use the EAC or the Shell to add or remove an email address for a user mailbox. You can configure more than one email address for the same mailbox. The additional addresses are called
proxy addresses. A proxy address lets a user receive email that’s sent to a different email address. Any email message sent to the user's proxy address is delivered to their primary email address, which is also known as the
primary SMTP address or the default reply address."
Add or Remove Email Addresses for a Mailbox
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123794.aspx
"create a shared mailbox and grant full permission for that user"
Do you mean a few users have a shared email address? For example:
    UserA:
Primary(main) address: [email protected], shared address:
    [email protected]
    UserB:
Primary(main) address: [email protected], shared address: [email protected]
If not, you can just create an addtional address for the users.

  • MailboxInSiteFailoverException - OWA session error on database *over (Exchange 2013 SP1)

Hi all, I have noticed an issue with OWA when database(s) are failed over between DAG members.  The environments in question (issue can be reproduced in separate implementations of 2013 SP1 all-role servers) are 2 or more DAG members within the same
AD site/subnet.  These are also fresh implementations with SP1 and not upgraded.  Exchange servers are load balanced via Netscaler.
So to the issue - OWA users experience the below "..MailboxInSiteFailoverException" message when the database copy is activated.  Exchange does not immediately proxy the requests to the active database.  You can wait several minutes and
the issue is resolved by refreshing the browser or if you recycle the MSExchangeOWAAppPool on both DAG members, the issue is resolved immediately (OWA session re-established on refresh).
Testing so far involved opening multiple OWA sessions and activating a database copy.  At that point, upon refresh of the browser the below error is shown (in all test browsers/sessions below) where I would expect any DAG member to be able to proxy
the client request to the active database server immediately (and not after several minutes).
    https://netscaler_LB/owa
    https://ex2013server-1/owa
    https://ex2013server-2/owa

Hi Simon, I have tested with no firewall on the exchange servers and on client machines within the same subnet as the servers.  All with the same results.
I can see many ASP.NET 4.0.30319.0 Event ID 1309 logs similar to this and other threads (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/c938dda0-b3bc-4544-851e-f27b503cf4ed/exchange-2013-event-id-1309-source-aspnet-40303190).
IIS logs show similar monitoring mailbox issues but I am still currently looking through the logs.  Thanks for your input.

  • Maximum database size Exchange 2013 Standard

    Hi,
Does anybody is aware of database size limitation for Exchange 2013 Standard. I remember in older version there was a registry tweak to increase database limits.
    Thank you
    alfa21

    Hi,
This is the official answer :
    Supported: Approximately 16 terabytes.
    Best practice:
    2 terabytes or less.
Provision for 120 percent of calculated maximum database size.

  • DBCA doesn't see a newly created database

    Hello,
I installed Oracle 10g on RHEL4. I created a database called ORCL during installation. Then I created another one, called TEST, using DBCA.
Both databases are up and running, but when I enter DBCA again and want to configure/drop database it sees only ORCL, TEST - not.
    Can anybody help me?
    A.

There's only one entry in oratab:
    orcl:/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/orcl
I guess there should be one for my test db and there isn't. I can enter it manually of course, but what path should I enter? There isn't
    /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/test
because I did only create a database.
I remember that when I created TEST database there was an error, something like "unable to write /tmp/oratab to /etc/oratab". But there was no file called "oratab" in /tmp then.
User, his right and pathes are correct - Oracle soft and first database were installed successfully, there's is only one problem - with the second db.
    Thx in advance
    A.

  • Move mailbox from off-line database to an on-line database

My exchange server currently has a number of mailboxes that are part of a database that is offline.  It will not be coming back online as primary drive has become corrupted, and the backup drive crashed.  So there is no recovering.  Is there
a way of changing which database a mailbox uses?
    Thanks

    Hi TDDINPSP,
I think you have a corrupted database or corrupted logs.
    For example;
    Check the database,
    eseutil /mh "E:\Database\test.edb"
if u see "State "Dirty Shutdown""
    eseutil /p "E:\Database\test.edb"
Then it is finished run the "eseutil /mh "E:\Database\test.edb"" again.
You should see "State "Clean Shutdown""
The nyou can try mounting the Database if mounts, everything is good if it doesnt mount you have to check log.
    eseutil /ml "E:\Database\e00"
And finally you have to defrag the database and you need  free space on disk which you want to create temp database for defrag.
    eseutil /d "E:\Database\test.edm /e "E:\temp/temp.edb
