Unable to reliability connect to an Iomega NAS drive.

I'm running IOS 10.6.8 and my NAS drive isn't connecting to my iMac everytime.  I've gone to Finder - Go - Connect To Server and an error messages comes back as not being able to connect.
When I run parallels within the iMac environment and use applications that require me to use the NAS drive, no problem.  The system see the drive everytime.
Help!!!!

The linked part of the Wiki does that you need to change those bits to /dev/disk/by-label/LABEL as instructed by the linked part of the wiki
The linked part of the wiki explains how to use labels for the kernel command line, but not for grub's internal disk and partition numbering scheme.

Are you saying you are trying to connect to the iPad via USB (probably via the Camera Connection Kit)?  If so, that doesn't work.  I don't think the Canon is an airprint printer, so your only other choice is to connect printer to computer via USB and download some application that routes airprint commands to the printer.  On the Mac, Printopia is one such application (there are others).  I don't know about PCs.

  • TWO Aiport express in WDS network and NAS drive?

    Hi,
I know this question has been asked several times: one airport express cannot be connected to USB nor NAS drive. But what about TWO airport express?
We now have 2 airport express (b/g) at home presently participating in a WDS network with the following connections:
    - Aiport express #1 (WDS main) - living room
=> ethernet = connected to internet
=> jack = connected to HIFI
    - Airport express #2 (WDS remote) - office room
=> USB = connected to printer
My question is the following: would it be possible to connect the ethernet port of Aiport express #2 to a NAS drive? How has the Airport express #2 to be configured (WDS remote? WDS relay? Connection sharing= "bridge" or "distribute a range of IP"?) for this purpose?
I could not find any clear answer yet on this particular situation.
Thanks in advance for your help with this. I do not want to buy a NAS drive and realize that it does not work...
    Ludovic

My question is the following: would it be possible to connect the ethernet port of Aiport express #2 to a NAS drive?
    Yes that should work.
How has the Airport express #2 to be configured (WDS remote? WDS relay? Connection sharing= "bridge" or "distribute a range of IP"?) for this purpose?
Either WDS remote or relay should work. You do not want it distributing IP addresses. Configuring it as a WDS remote or relay should automatically prevent this setting.

  • Windows 8 Explorer cannot see NAS drive on WiFi connected laptop

I have several devices on my home network. Windows XP PC's, Windows 7 PC's, Android tablets, and 2 Windows 8 laptops.  All the devices can see the harddrive attached to my WiFi router except for one of the Windows 8 laptops and I can't seem to figure
    out a solution.
That laptop, compared to all the other devices, connects by a Wireless G adapter vs. Wirless N for everything else, but I don't think that's the problem.
It CAN access the NAS drive through Windows Media Player, however, only media in that case and not documents.
Why can it see the drive through WMP but not Explorer???  ...and what's the fix?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
The laptop has a Windows 8 32-bit upgrade installed.
Windows Explorer shows the Media access for the drive, but not the drive itself.

For a regedit newbie, can you please provide step-by-step details how to: "create a new DWORD entry with the name EnableLinkedConnections and value 1". Is this a new line to be
    inserted? Thanks.
Below is my situation. I posted an earlier version of this query on Microsoft Community and was advised to move to here on Technet.
    I am having trouble mapping
and connecting shared drives on my NAS using WiFi. I have three new Acer i5-4th Gen laptops running Windows 8 with Intel 7260-N WiFi cards and Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 loaded. My NAS is also new. It is a Zyxel NSA325, replacing a
WD My Book World Edition. The hard drives from two such WD boxes went into the Zyxel. So I do not have another NAS on hand to test. My router is unchanged. It is a Netgear WNDR3700v1 pre-MIMO dual-band N-router.
One of the new Acers is a V7-482PG-6662. The other two laptops are M5-583P-6428 machines. The Acer V7 never had a problem with connections – neither via Ethernet nor via WiFi. Both
M5’s had troubles at first via WiFi. Then I got one to work. But the second Acer M5 stubbornly only connects reliably via Ethernet; the NAS only shows reliably under Network on File Manager when using Ethernet. Maybe one in five times that I reboot with WiFi,
can I see the NAS under Network on File Manager.
I also have an old Dell Win-7 Ultimate desktop. It has no problems connecting via shared drives to the NAS via WiFi. I also have an old WD TV-Live Plus attached via Ethernet that accesses
the NAS via Media Server, not via Network Shares. All PCs plus a Samsung Android Tablet can see / access the NAS reliably as a media server over WiFi.
I went through many, many recommendations from the internet, trying to fix the WiFi problem for the Acer M5s. For example:
Turn on various or all Advanced Network Sharing options, e.g., Discovery and File Sharing
Make sure that Client for Microsoft Networks is on
Set up and reset Windows Credentials for users
Enter net config server /autodisconnect:-1 as admin
Make sure that Network List Service is started on automatic (as well as not on)
Tried using Net Use commands to map the drive, but got error message 53s
    Updated WiFi card drivers
Multiple cycles of closing down all network advanced sharing settings, then uninstalling and reinstalling network adapters via device manager, then opening up all network advanced sharing settings (as described
in the technet item: fix-for-cannot-access-nas-drives-sharefolder-is-not-accessible-or-error-code-0x80070035 ).
Various cycles and sequences of rebooting and leaving machines on with the hope that they would connect.
I have not tried any of the advice about reg editing or setting different MTU values. Most of such advice online dates from 2009. And it was not needed to get the one Acer M5 machine
    working.
After cycling through the items above, the one Acer M5 started listing the NAS occasionally under Network in File Manager. At first this only happened in like 1 in 20 reboots. But
I started getting luckier. And after one round of closing down shares and reinstalling adapters, it started to work reliably. And has kept working ever since.
I now have the second Acer M5 connecting via WiFi in about one in five reboots. But this is not satisfactory. Normally, the NAS only shows under Network on File Manger, and only allows
drives to be mapped, when the laptop is connected via Ethernet. I tried comparing adapter settings between when using Ethernet and using WiFi (for example, that the same Microsoft LLDP protocols are ticked). I also put both Acer M5s side by side to compare
settings. I also tried repairing Windows 8 and reloading all Windows updates. But I have not thus far gone all the way back to a complete Windows 8 restore to factory conditions.
    Advice, help please, thanks.

  • ML won't connect to NAS drive for Time Machine Backup

I've just upgraded  from Lion to Mountain Lion.
I'm using an Iomega Cloud Edition Home NAS drive. This worked 'fine' under Lion (occasional need to redo backup after failed verify).
    Now:
    - Automatic backups fail - TM can't find the drive over the network (wired or wireless)
    - I can use Finder to see files on the drive, connect to the TM share, look into the Sparsebundle etc. Copy/Delete/Move files. In short - the NAS shares are fully accessible EXCEPT to TM
    - If I force a backup from the menu bar (back up now) it fails with the same error message.
    - If, however, I open Time Machine Preferences, and alt-click/right-click on the disc icon and then choose 'back up now', the back up will start and progress nicely.
In short, automatic back ups don't work, forcing from the menu bar doesn't work, but I can manually back up if I right-click on the disc icon in Time Machine Preferences.
At this point then, TM is failing me as a useful back up option. It's supposed to be 'set up and forget about it' security. It isn't under ML.
And this problem only started after the ML upgrade.
    Thoughts?
Please help - this is now taking up too much time!

Thanks Pondini for your responses - perhaps you could add this tip to your website?
Since I don't have a NAS, I've been reluctant to post any detail about them.
The closest I got was #C16 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting, because almost all NASs weren't compatible with Lion, but is now mostly out of date.
Without the proper qualifications (what TM message, if any, folks are getting; or what they may see in the NAS's interface), it might steer folks in the wrong direction, or provide no help at all.  For example, that link says it happens when TM has been set up via Lifeline 3.2.6 or below.  I have no idea what that is, or what Iomega NAS models this current problem applies to, etc.
That's why I usually just recommend checking with the maker.
I've thought about a general page, something like "problems with Time Machine and NASs" but I really don't think I could include enough info to be useful.
    But I'm open to suggestions.

  • Is there a way to connect to Synology 212j NAS through router?

Since I upgraded from Mountain Lion 10.8.5 to Mavericks OS X 10.9.1 I cannot connect my Synology 212j NAS via my router.
Diskstation/iMac Works fine when connected directly with ethernet cable. When connected via router with ethernet no connection is possible.
find.synology.com does not find the NAS, the synology assistant finds the NAS, can configure the IP address, but displays "connection failed" at the end of the process.
When wifi is enabled I can share files through finder. At no point am I able to display DSM configuration interface at 192.168.1.XXX:5000.
All firmware up to date, all devices reset and rebooted several times
The router lists the diskstation IP address in devices (in router configuration ui)
    Tried fixed IP and DHCP
    Tried port forwarding all services
MacBook Air with Mountain Lion 10.8.5 connects flawlessly to diskstation.
I think there is a problem with the way the IP addresses are being managed between Mavericks OS X and the router is there a way to work around this?

dont think so but I could be wrong
as it were I didn't like the build in audio so I connected some external logictech 2.1 speakers  but there
are times when I use headset so I bought this one
or any minijack splitter will work too so I have 2 things connected to the headset port works just fine

  • I want to stream media from a NAS drive connected to my Time Capsule.

I recently bought the Time Capsule to serve as my backup and my wireless router.  Both of my Macs are now using it via Time Machine.  I now want to move my large ITunes and IPhoto databases from an external hard drive on one Mac to a network drive where I can stream/view from either Mac.  What is the best way to do this?
    1.  Buy a NAS drive with just ethernet and connect to one of the three port on the Time Capsule?  If so, what is the best drive to buy?
    2.  Use a USB drive and attack to the USP port on the Time Capsule?  If so, will any USB drive work?

i recently moved my iTunes library to a NAS. i'm very happy with performance.
have a look at this discussion.
as for iPhoto, all i have is a link to a recent discuss over atthe Apple TV forum but don't know how relevant it is: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15366429#15366429
    2.  Use a USB drive and attack to the USP port on the Time Capsule?  If so, will any USB drive work?
as long as the drive is properly formatted, yes. you may need to use a powered USB hub. the USB connection may or may not be a bottleneck as compared to full gigabit speed of the NAS.

  • NAS drives grayed out and can't connect to other Macs

    Hello All,
After upgrading my 15-inch, Mid 2010 MacBook Pro to Mavericks (10.9 13A603) my NAS storage drives are grayed out in Finder. I can't go directly to my NAS drive in Finder. I can't simply click on the NAS drives in Finder and see what is in the directory. The directories are grayed out!.
In order for me to connect to my NAS stotage drive I have to go to "DEVICES" on the leftside of the Finder window and then click on the MacBook Pro HD. From there I have to click on "Network." From "Network" I can get a slow connection to my NAS.
As for as connection to other Macs in my office, I have to take the same steps above. I can't connect directly to the other Macs in my office in Finder. Nether can the other Macs connect to other Macs! All Macs in the office are set up to allow both AFP and SMB. However, one lonely 2009 iMac in our office is still on Mountian Lion and it can connect to other Macs and the our NAS without problems.
One strange things this, I can do a Screen Share to the other Macs from my 2010 MacBook Pro! I can't connect directly in Finder, but I can do a Screen Share. Strange!
Is there a fix for this or was Marverick let out the jungle to earily?
    Help! and Thanks!

I forgot to add that everything was previously connected via an Airport express wireless system. I just got an Airport Extreme system which hasn't changed things a bit.

  • I have multiple devices (imacs, lap tops and ipads) all connected to a NAS server.  Can I create a user for myself and one for my wife, and each have our own apple ID, and Itunes accounts, but all share the same media on NAS drives?

I have multiple devices (iMacs, Lap tops, Ipads) all connected to a Nas Drive.  Can I create a user for myself and one for my wife and we each have our own apple ID's, Itunes etc, but share the same data on the hard drives?  So when she logs in, and sync's her ipads, they will sync with her stuff and when I do the same under my user account, on the same device, my ipads will sync with my stuff?

You can share the same Apple ID for purchasng form the iTunes and app stores without any problems, but you should all used separate iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs.  (You are not required to use the same ID for iCloud and other services as you do for the iTunes store.)  This will prevent you from ending up with merged data.  You should also use separate Apple IDs for iMessage and FaceTime or you will end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.

Hi, I'm using a Mac Pro here. I am trying to connect it with my NAS hard drive. But i could not connect to it because i have an ethernet which connects to the intranet in my company and Air Port for the internet and it could not detect the the ip address after i input the correct address on "Connect to Server" window. Please help! Urgent! Thanks

I did not say it is not possible.
I said if your company networks are monopolizing both ports, you should talk to them about what options are available.
Maybe you can get the company Intranet over wireless if you change some configuration items such as Subnet Mask.
Maybe you can get on the Internet over Ethernet.
You really need to ask them, and do not let them blow you off because you have a Mac. If they balk, ask them how it would be done on a PC (becasue it will be the same on a Mac).

  • How do I configure AirportExtreme or TimeCapsule to use UPnP or connect an iOmega Media Drive, Could Edition?

I recently purchased an iOmega Home Media Drvie, Cloud Edition, which claims functionality with the MacOS--and shared foldersdo appear on desktops connected the home network (wirelessly or otherwise)—however this puprose of this "Cloud Edition" is to be able to share files/the drive over the internet and I cannot seem to configure the Apple AirPort TimeCapsule to allow this (other routhers are configured automatically by the drive).
The documentation says "you’ll need to turn on Remote Access and enable UPnP on your router" and
The Home Media Drive tests for an active internet connection. If this test fails, check your network configuration.
The Home Media Drive will identify your WAN IP address. The WAN IP address is the extrnal address of your router or internet gateway and is the address your Home Media Drive will be identified by on the internet. If this test fails you will need to double check the network configuration of your Home Media Drive and your Router.
The Home Media Drive will test to make sure UPnP port forwarding is operating correctly. If this test fails, you will need to manually port forward your router.
Once the testing is complete, The device will be available on the internet via its WAN IP address, i.e. https://168.254.13.68. See the WAN IP Field for the exact address.
I can't figure out out how to do this, and I am not a networking dummy.  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you!

If you have the Airport Extreme or TimeCapsule connected to another router from your ISP it can cause a double NAT situation.  You'd have to first port forward the primary router (from your ISP) to the secondary router using the same 50500 port that you are using to port forward the AirPort Extreme to the Iomega drive.  You want to be sure that you only have one router with DHCP and NAT enabled.  So the simplest solution is to turn the AirPort Extreme or TimeCapsule to a bridge.  Then restart all devices.  I reset the iOmega media drive after switching to bridge mode on the AirPort Extreme and the cloud was enabled and finally configured properly.  You can reset without loosing your data... but you will have to reconfigure all users including administrators.  Same with remote access.  Hope this helps.

  • I am unable to fully connect to a wireless hot spot with Z10

I am unable to fully connect to a wireless hot spot at work with my z10. We use Cisco access points. Once connected to the AP, users are redirected to https://2.2.2.2/login.html this page allows users to type a username and password and then click a button to gain full Internet access. Using the  z10 to connect to the AP  redirects me to the secure page but then throws the error:
    "Site Identity Not Verifiable"
I then select Expand to continue and am able to add the site as an exception but then I get asecond error:
    "Unknown network error 3RFINA".
I believe it's most likely due to the self-signed cert that the AP is using to secure the http traffic. I use to see this issue on my previous blackberry devices and playbook prior to some recent OS updates, but I am not sure what the exact fix was.  If you try to accept the error and there no prompt to install the cert as seen on my previous devices.
I am able to connect to the same AP with my laptop, Playbook, and Bold 9900, iPod and android devices without issue. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas? Since the AP is not mine I am really looking for a transparent client-side solution.
    Thanks

    Same here...
I guess the problem is invalid certificate in web authlogin page.
Even when I add a excepetion, I still geting this same error 3RFINA.
I remember when I had Android 1.6 I receive similar error, but when upgraded to 2.1 the errors was gone and I was able to authenticate in wifi connection here in that government build.
Now, when I came to BB Z10, I a kind of disapointed to get same error. I now its concern by security and the guilty in that history probably is IT who admin this network for using a invalid certificate (the validation date appears in browser is a kind of funny... says its valid from 2027 to 2039)

My corporate database wizards have created a login for my small subsidiary to use to read selected data from the HR database.  It's meant to be used by an SSIS package to bring over data on who's a current employee and who's not.
