Unable to select parameters when SSRS 2008R2 report is deployed

I have over one hundred reports deployed to a stand alone SSRS2008R2 server.  For almost all of the reports, the standard report parameters are:
DBName (an internal parameter used for an embedded connection string)
Date Range (pre-set date selections such as Last Week, Current Month, Last Quarter, etc)
Location (integer value)
Beginning Date
Ending Date (both dates use the output of Date Range as the default but can be overridden.
The reports have always deployed and have worked using these parameters and sometimes other parameters with no problems for years.  I just deployed a new report that uses the same 5 parameters that the other reports use and only those 5 parameters.
 The only difference is that instead of Location passing an integer value, it passes a text value (CHAR(8) specifically).  When the report is deployed to the server, the Date Range parameter appears and allows the user to select a Date Range but
none of the other parameters show any values and do not allow the user to select a value.  The odd thing is that if I change the DataSource to use a specific database and run it on Report Manager through Report Builder, it works fine.  When I run
it directly on Report Manager, it does not work.  It also does not work when run via the site it is deployed to.  I have run SQL Profiler and all it shows is that the stored procedure for the Date Range parameter is run successfully.  I also
cannot see anything telling in the Reporting Services log and there is nothing special about the ASP.NET code related to the report.  I have spent over 12 hours on this issue and am truly stumped.
Any ideas on how to fix this? This needs to fixed urgently.
Derrick

Hi DerrickVH,
According to your description, you have more than one hundred reports with 5 parameters in SSRS 2008 R2, the reports works fine. You deployed a new report to report server, it has same parameters except data type of location is text. When you run the report,
only Date Range parameter is displayed and allows users to select values from drop down list. If you specify a database and run the report use report builder, the report works fine.
In Reporting Services, we can use dynamic data source through an expression-based connection string. To troubleshoot this problem, please refer to the following steps:
The dynamic database connection string can only be used with an embedded data source, we could not use it with a shared data source.
Specify credentials separately from the connection string.
Make sure there is corresponding values for the parameters in the database.
Verify the connection string and values of parameter DBName is correct.
For more information about Expression-based on connection strings, please refer to the following document:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156450.aspx#Expressions
If the problem remain unresolved, i would appreciate it if you could give us detailed information of the report, it’s better to provide screenshot and sample data about the report in design surface, it will help us move more quickly toward a solution.

Wendy Fu

  • BOXI 3.0 Selecting "parameters" when rescheduling returns error in InfoView

    All,
    Fresh installation of BOXI 3.0 and application of FP2. SQL Server Express 2005 BOXI database. Default TomCat web.
    Installation had no problems. Used the import wizard to import a couple of reports from previous BOXIR1 system.
    I go into InfoView and "schedule" a report. I set the parameters (static, from a combobox) etc... the report runs fine. I can open the report. Everything seems normal and functional to this point.
    Then I select the report again, and opt to "reschedule" from the list of actions. This opens the "Instance Title" screen as it should. However, when I then select "parameters" I get the following error :
    "An error has occurred: $Proxy4"
    This is our second installation of BOXI 3.0 - the first acted the same but resulted in a $Proxy5 error.
    What does this mean?
    Thanks!

    In Infoview schedule the report to pdf format, and once it goes to success.
    Click on the reschedule option and then click on the parameter option.
    The error "An error has occurred:$Proxy4" will be thrown.
    Target Fix: XI 3.0 FP1
    Workaround: No
    There was a bug in 3.0 that was fixed in FP1 that seems to match your symptoms. You can try installing FP1. If that doesn't resolve then I'd suggest openinjg a message with support so they can verify your workflow.

  • Selecting columns when downloading interactive reports

    Hello,
    We have a requirement set by Oracle's Corporate Security Architecture Review Board to prevent some columns from displaying when downloading interactive reports to csv format. They should display on the report but not on the csv output.
    I vaguely recall that this was possible when interactive reports were first released but I can't find a way to do it in ApEx 4.1? When I go to Print Attributes > Report Columns, I can see the list of columns and they are all set to Show in report = Yes but there is no way to set it to No. It seems that all the columns selected to display on the Interactive Report are automatically included in the Download.
    Our applications are hosted on apex.oraclecorp.com, I can provide further details if required.
    Thank you for advising if there is a way of excluding columns when downloading.
    Kind regards,
    Isabelle Fallon

    I don't have an answer (other than intercepting the download and writing my own custom handler...ugh!). I just wanted to chime in and say that, I, too, think this is an issue. You should be able to specify, at the column level, what is and isn't available for download. This is provide for Hide, Sort, Filter etc...why not for download???
    This causes more problems when considered in light of another APEX (in my opinion) Bug. When you mark a column as Hidden, it isn't "hidden", i.e. display=none. Rather, it is not sent at all to the page. There are case all of the time wherein one does not wish to display the column but, nonetheless, it is needed to perform some other processing, e.g. conditional logic, pass to linked pages, etc. In these cases, you have to use jQuery (or JavaScript) to hide them. Stinks. Moreover, even though they truly+ are hidden after this change, they are included in the download.

  • Unable to select user when reconnecting mailbox

    Hi there,
    I am wondering if this is a bug or if anyone can help...
    A user was accidentally deleted in AD.  We recovered the user successfully and attempted to reconnect the user's mailbox.
    When you reconnect, a dialog opens in which we are supposed to select the AD user to whom the mailbox will be connected.
    Here is the problem:
    (Windows 2003 Domain Controller, Exchange Server 2003 on same box)
    When we type in the user's login (Dialog: Select a new user for this mailbox) and click check name it returns an error message saying it can't find it
    (An object (User or Other object) with the following name cannot be found:"PatrickK" Check the selected object types and locations for accuracy and ensure that you have typed the object name correctly, or remove this object from the selection)
    Now, this is a standard AD "can't find the user" message.  This is despite the fact that we are selecting our domain.  When we click advanced and search for all users and objects, the only objects that are returned are the users and groups of the local machine; not the domain.  This occurs even when we select our domain as the object to search.  It seems to ignore it and only search the local machine directory.  The same occurs when we try to connect the mailbox to any account on our domain.
    Is this due to Exchange and the Domain Controller being on the same box?
    Any hints or comments appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Worked for me too.  Also keeps all the permissions of users to the mailbox, but you have to add any extra email addresses back after removing exchange attributes, so make note of them when you delete attributes.
    Thanks!

  • "Unable to find report specified by URL,Please verify that both Server URL and Report URL are correct". Performance Point Dashboard Designer (SP 2013), SSRS 2012 Report.

    Hello Everybody,
    I am using Sharepoint server 2013 , SQL Server 2012 SP1, PerfomancePoint and Reporting Services in SharePoint integrated mode.
    I built one report in SSDTusing an Analysis Services Cube. This report has 3 parameters. So the idea is use Dashboard Designer to use this SSRS Report and connect it with some PP Filters.
    The issue is that I am always obtaining "Unable to find report specified by URL,Please verify that both Server URL and Report URL are correct".
    I have the following settings in the PP Report:
    Server Mode: SharePoint Integrated
    SharePoint Site: http://MySharrepointSite:PortNumber/sites/bicenter
    Document library : Documents (selected from drop down, my report is deployed to document library)
    Report : report.rdl
    When I select the report from drop down list its giving the error in a pop up message box as "Unable
    to find report specified by URL,Please verify that both Server URL and Report URL are correct".
    I have tried to use the most simple report, only with one parameter, but is always displaying the error above.
    When I open the report directly from documents library its working fine and even it is working fine (
    when I deployed the report) but the issue is parameters are not showing.
    Any idea? Please help.
    Thanks in Advance.

    "Unable to connect to the server at CALYSTO\ReportService.
    Hello Tom,
    It should be "ReportServer" in the URL, not "ReportService".
    In "Reporting Service Configuration Manager" look up the correct URL. Open Internet Explorer with right-mouse click => "Run as Administrator" and open the URL, this should work. Navigate to "Side setting" (on top right side),
    go to tab "Security" and add your account with role "System Administrator". Afterwards you should be able to open the URL without running IE as admin.

  • Select-options and Parameters, when to use what?

    Hi gurus,
    I have been using Parameters for long. Now I want to choose a range of values, which I need to retrieve from database.
    I tried using select-options. Can't I use 2 parameters that is parameter1 and parameter2 and mention query BETWEEN para1 AND
    para2, and when I use NO INTERVALS and NO EXTENSION together, it behaves same like parameter, then why did SAP gave these
    extensions.

    Hi friend,
    Simple differences between Select-options and parameters.
    Select-Options Uses keyword 'for'
    Parameters Uses keywords 'like', 'type'
    Select-Options  Uses operator 'in'
    Parameters Uses operator '='
    Select-Options  Provides ranges for selection
    Parameters  No ranges only single value
    Select-Options Creates selection table
    Parameters No selection table
    Select-Options  When i/p blank all records selected
    Parameters   When i/p blank none is selected
    Note:
    Select options can act as parameters by using 'no-extension' 'no intervals', but all records will be selected when i/p is blank unlike parameters.
    Might be helpful..
    Thanks...

  • Error while running SSRS 2012 report integrated with SharePoint 2013

    Hi,
    Our reporting services environment has SSRS 2012 integrated with SharePoint 2013. The SharePoint 2013 farm has 2 web front ends, 1 app server and a separate server for reporting services i.e SSRS 2012 .
    We have created a https web application in SharePoint 2013 and all the SSRS 2012 reports are deployed into a "Report Library" residing in its root site collection.
    The simple reports are running well. But there is a report where we have 3 multi-value parameters. On running this report in IE or Chrome, we get the error "Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the
    server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled. Details: Error parsing near ' <!DOCTYPE html PUB'."
    Some of the forums suggested to add the below entry in the web config of the SharePoint web app where the SSRS reports are deployed. We did that too, still the error is appearing. Please can anyone help .
    <appSettings>
    <add key="aspnet:MaxHttpCollectionKeys" value="100000" />
    </appSettings>
    Thanks

    Hi Surendra,
    I have tested on my local environment and the issue can be caused by the session time out ,the time out of the report precessing, database timeout,DataSet query execution timeout and so on.
    I would like to confirm that the refresh you have mentioned is the page refresh or the report reloading?
    Please reference to the setting below to don't limit the timeout values if you got the report reloading:
    Point to a report in the library.
    Click the down arrow, and select Manage processing options.
    In Processing Time-out, select Do not time out report processing or
    Limit report processing in seconds if you want to override that value with no time-out or different time-out values.
    If you got the session timeout that refresh the page, please reference to the setting in below article:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg492284.aspx#bkmk_session_settings_section
    Details information in the article below about the timeout setting for your reference:

  • Is there anyone at all here who has successfully compiled and deployed an SSRS custom report item in VS2012?

    Is there anyone at all here who has successfully compiled and deployed an SSRS custom report item in VS2012?  Is there a demo out there that actually works in VS2012?  Is there anyone who has actually been able to compile and deploy that
    apparently obsolete Polygons demo?  (Pardon my impatience but I'm running a bit short of time here.)
    After much hacking and googling I was able to get Polygons to compile but I still can't deploy it to the toolbox.  ('The custom report item type PolygonsDesigner is not installed').   I've modified the RSReportDesigner.config
    as instructed but I have no rssrvpolicy.config file on my local machine and
    as yet I have no idea if that is necessary for local development.
    In order to get it to compile I first added the reference  C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Microsoft.ReportingServices.ProcessingCore.dll to both projects.
    To the PolygonsDesigner Project I also added the references:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Controls.dll
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer.11.0.dll
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces.dll
    Are these the correct references?
    Exactly what software do you need installed on your local machine in addition to VS2012 in order to create a custom control?
    (Designer.11.0 was added per the instructions in reference: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/783391/unable-to-integrate-previously-working-ssrs-custom-report-item-to-vs-2012s-toolbox
    After that I added the alias RSDesigner to it's properties and   extern alias RSDesigner; at the top of the PolygonsDesigner.cs file. )
    As of now, the top of the PolygonsDesigner.cs is as follows.  I don't recall making any other changes to the code.  As far as I can remember this is all I did in order to be able to compile the code in VS2012.
        extern alias RSDesigner;
        using System;
        using System.ComponentModel;
        using System.ComponentModel.Design;
        using System.Collections;
        using System.Collections.Generic;
        using System.Diagnostics;
        using System.Drawing;
        using System.Windows.Forms;
        using Microsoft.ReportDesigner;
        using Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Design;
        using Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces;
        using Microsoft.ReportingServices.RdlObjectModel;
        using System.Xml;
        using System.Xml.Xsl;
        using System.Xml.XPath;
        [LocalizedName("Polygons")]
        [Editor(typeof(CustomEditor), typeof(ComponentEditor))]
        [ToolboxBitmap(typeof(PolygonsDesigner), "Polygons.ico")]
        [CustomReportItem("Polygons")]
        [ToolboxItem(typeof(RSDesigner::Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Shell.CRIToolboxItem))]
        [System.CLSCompliant(false)]
        public class PolygonsDesigner : CustomReportItemDesigner
        {   etc...

    Just fixed this myself.
    It appears the documentation online is wrong and the sample code is missing a reference to a reporting services dll and an attribute.
    What you need to do to get it working in VS2012 is add a reference to: Microsoft.ReportingServices.designer.11.0.dll to the PolygonsDesigner project and then add the following attribute to the PolygonsDesigner class: [ToolboxItem(typeof(Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Shell.CRIToolboxItem))]
    I also removed the [System.CLSCompliant(false)] attribute.
    You then recompile and place both dlls in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies directory and the PolygonsDesigner.dll into the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS11.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin
    or what ever is you reporting services path.
    You also need to change the Microsoft example for the rereportserver.config file to:
        <ReportItemDesigner>
       <ReportItem Name="Polygons" Type="Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.PolygonsDesigner, PolygonsDesigner" />
        </ReportItemDesigner>
        <ReportItems>
       <ReportItem Name="Polygons" Type="Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.PolygonsCRI,PolygonsCRI"/>
        </ReportItems>
     Notice that I changed the namespaces and class to what is in the actual code so if you change it make sure you change it here.
    And here in the RSReportDesigner.config:
    <ReportItems>
          <ReportItem Name="Polygons" Type="Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.PolygonsCustomReportItem,PolygonsCRI" />
        </ReportItems>
        <ReportItemDesigner>
          <ReportItem Name="Polygons" Type="Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.PolygonsDesigner, PolygonsDesigner" />
        </ReportItemDesigner>
        <ReportItemConverter>
          <Converter Source="Chart" Target="Polygons" Type="PolygonsCRI.PolygonsConverter, PolygonsDesigner" />
        </ReportItemConverter>
    Notice I haven't changed the last part as I didn't know what the PolygonsCRI.PolygonsConverter was.
    And make sure the rssrvpolicy.config looks like this:
         <CodeGroup class="UnionCodeGroup" version="1" PermissionSetName="FullTrust" Description="This code group grants PolygonsCRI.dll FullTrust permission. ">
           <IMembershipCondition class="UrlMembershipCondition" version="1" Url="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.SQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin\PolygonsCRI.dll" />
        </CodeGroup>
    After a restart of ssrs and relaunch of VS2012 I opened a test project and added the PolygonsDesigner.dll to the toolbox and it works.

    Have you tried the basics, such as clearing the browser cache? Note that depending on the version of SSRS in use, Anonymous is not supported with SSRS.

    Hi nikp11,
    According to your description, you recently updated SQL Server 2008 R2 to SP3, Report Builder doesn’t work since then the error occurs: "Application validation did not succeed. Unable to continue".
    This is an known issue in SSRS 2008 R2 SP3 that Microsoft has published an article addressing this issue. It is not planning to release a fix for this issue. But we could implement one of the following workarounds:
    Install and run Report Builder 3.0 of SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM.
    Install and run Report Builder of SQL Server 2014.
    Uninstall Service Pack 3 then uninstall Service Pack 2 and then reinstall Service Pack 3.

  • SSRS Integrated mode failes (timeout) when executing lengthy reports.

    Hi All,
    I have SSRS 2008 R2 running in integrated mode with SharePoint 2010 foundation.  The SharePoint farm and SSRS are both configured for Kerberos authentication.  Both SSRS and SharePoint are working well.  The vast majority of reports
    compile in less than 30 seconds, users are generally happy.
    Except,  I have a couple of reports which take a long time to execute on the SQL side, I cant change this, that's just how it has to be.  The simplest of the reports to explain is a report, with 1 parameter with four values, which performs
    up to four actions on the SQL Server and then returns around two dozen rows of the result, typically the entire process completes in around 10 minutes.  If I run this report via the ssrs /reportserver WFE the report always completes, results are presented
    on screen, no issues whatsoever.  When I run the same report from within SharePoint, its a different story, the report will complete only if I select just one of the four parameter actions, resulting in the total report execution time of
    around 4 minutes,  However when running the report with all four parameters selected, the loading spinner appears, then after 6 minutes, disappears entirely.  The page returns to the parameter selection, no results are presented.
    Having checked all the SSRS log files and ExecutionLogStorage table, they suggest that the report carries on building in the background, and then completed roughly 10 minutes after starting.
    So my conclusion is that something in SharePoint does not like the extended duration of the report execution.  But what is it,  What triggers the 6 minute timeout?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Regards
    Dan

    Hi danbridgland,
    According to your description, there are a couple of reports in SSRS Sharepoint integrated mode. The query takes a long time to execute in SQL Server. When you run the report via Sharepoint WFE, the report works fine. When you run the report in Sharepoint
    Application, the report will be displayed if you select one parameter value, if four values of the parameters are selected, the report disappears after 6 minutes’ loading.
    In Native mode, SSRS uses a default timeout of 9000 seconds. In SharePoint integrated mode the timeout is reduced to 120 seconds. The timeout in SharePoint is actually related to the fact that reports are rendered using the http runtime. Any operation that
    is launched from within SharePoint using the httpRuntime object has to complete within the timeout parameters. In this case, we can directly editing timeout in web.config by following steps:
    Locate web.config for the SharePoint site you have configured for SSRS integration (default location: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80).
    Open the file in an XML or text editor.
    Navigate to httpRuntime element, inside the tag, add executionTimeout="9000".
    In addition, in SharePoint integrated mode, reports typically run slower than when the same reports run in native mode. One main cause of this latency can be attributed to SharePoint object model calls that are made. For detail information, please refer
    to the following document:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2216504
    If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
    Thanks,

    Hi RH,
    You can add two textbox at the top outside the tablix and using expression to get the parameter value use have selected to display in the textbox as blew:
    TextBox1: =Parameters!Date.Value
    TextBox2: =Parameters!To.Value
    For Multiple value parameter you can use the expression like : =Join(Parameters!Date.Value,",")
    You can rename the two textbox' name in the properties as "Date" and "To"  then the two textboxs will display like belkow in the CSV report:
    Date                 TO
    01/01/2015      01/31/2015
    ID   EmpFirstName    EmpLastName   Location
    1      Tom                  Garry                  NY

  • Performance Issue when updating parameters in a Crystal Report on Edge 2008

    I have several Crystal reports posted into Edge 2008.  When you select Edit on a parameter to set the parameters to run the report, it takes a noticably long time for the parameter selection window to appear.  Then once you have made your choice, it takes quite a long time to close the parameter selection screen to go back to the scheduling window.
    I thought it might have something to do with reports where I have linked the parameter with a table field and appended the values in the report parameter.  But, it happens even when there is no link to the data for the parameter.
    I've had several users saying it is very frustrating having to wait for the parameter selection.

    I am using two infosets that are not linked together by any primary key. The main infoset has transaction records and the second infoset has only one record (which is a foreign exchange rate). The performance is slow and I am presuming its because there are no linked fileds between the infosets, everytime a record is read from the main infoset it goes to the second infoset and also reads the record there. Is there a way to improve performance? How can I have the report read the second infoset only once and store that value to be used when reading records from the first infoset.

  • Problem with empty report parameters when passed to PL/SQL function

    Hi,
    We have come across what appears to be a bug in the JRC. When passing a report parameter to a PL/SQL function as a parameter, empty parameters are changed before being sent to the function. More specifically, an empty string "" ends up as the value "(')" in the PL/SQL function parameter. In our report we print the report parameters on the first page so we know that the parameters are OK before being passed to the database.
    The problem exists for version 12.2.203, 12.2.204 and 12.2.205 of the JRC.
    We have identified a workaround, but it is not exactly elegant: Before executing the report we modify all empty  parameters ("") to " " . In the PL/SQL function, we trim all parameters before using them.
    We call the function using a command object with a sql syntax like this example:
    select * from table (qa_batch_release.get_qa_br('{?p_report_id}','{?p_reg_set_number}','{?p_cr_number}','{?p_change_id_decode}','{?p_country_id}','{?p_mfg_item_no}','{?p_4_no}','{?p_5_no}','{?p_7_no}'))
    The PL/SQL function is a table returning function.
    Best regards, Thor

    Hi Kishore,
    using #COLUMN_VALUE# would probably not make much sense, because normally a report has multiple columns and not just the numeric column which you want to verify if it's negative. But APEX will fire the template condition for each column, because the report template is a column cell template.
    What you can do to make it more generic is to use for example
    #CHECK_AMOUNT#
    in the template and provide a not displayed column in your SQL statement which contains your value which is named CHECK_AMOUNT. For example:
    SELECT NAME
         , BALANCE
         , BALANCE AS CHECK_AMOUNT
    FROM XXX;Because this CHECK_AMOUNT column would be a generic name, you can use this template in all your reports as long as you provide this column.
    Thope that helps
    Patrick
