Unable to traverse children of child Nodes for w3c.dom class

Hi Folks,
I'm trying to Traverse children of child nodes but unfortunately its not working.
Here is the snippet of my code..
String xpath = "//*[starts-with(name(), 'PosRpt')]";
          String xpath1 = "/FIXML/Batch/PosRpt/*";
          try {
               // Get all matching elements
               NodeList nodelist = XPathAPI.selectNodeList(doc, xpath);
               if (nodelist.getLength() < 0)
                    System.out.println("Element not found");
               else
                         System.out.println("xpath element found");
               // Process elements in nodelist
               for (int i=0; i<nodelist.getLength(); i++){
                    Element element = (Element)nodelist.item(i);
                    System.out.println("Element name - " + element.getTagName());
                    GetAttributes(element);
                                        Node currentnode = (Node) nodelist.item(i);
                    NodeList childlist = currentnode.getChildNodes();
                    int xx = childlist.getLength();
                    System.out.println("No of child elements = " + xx);
                    for (int y=0; y<childlist.getLength(); y++){
                         Element element1 = (Element)childlist.item(y);
                         System.out.println(y + " Child Element name - " + element1.getTagName());
                         GetAttributes(element1);
                         if ("Pty".equals(element1.getTagName())&& element1.hasChildNodes()){
//     THIS IS WHERE I THINK THE PROBLEM IS *****
                              Node child = element1.getFirstChild();
                              System.out.println("Node name - " + child.getNodeName()+
                                        " and node value is = " + child.getNodeValue());
                              NamedNodeMap attrs = child.getAttributes();
                              if (child.hasAttributes()){
                              for(int x= 0; x<attrs.getLength(); x++){
                                   Attr attr = (Attr) attrs.item(x);
                                   System.out.println("attribute Name - " + attr.getNodeName());
                                   System.out.println("attribute value - " + attr.getNodeValue());
Sample of XML..snippet
- <PosRpt RptID="273558126" BizDt="2005-07-13" ReqTyp="0" Ccy="USD">
<Pty ID="OCC" R="21" />
- <Pty ID="00299" R="4">
<Sub ID="C" Typ="26" />
</Pty>
and this is what the result snippet is...
Child Element name - Pty
attribute Name - ID
attribute value - 00299
attribute Name - R
attribute value - 4
Node name - #text and node value is =
WHERE DID NODE #text CAME FROM.
I'M BAFFLED.
ANY IDEAS??
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
RAJ

Alas, it is probably working fine.
What you are seeing in the "extra" text elements are newlines.
Change your print statement from:
System.out.println("Node name - " + child.getNodeName()+
" and node value is = " + child.getNodeValue());to
System.out.println("Node name - " + child.getNodeName()+
" and node value is =` " + child.getNodeValue() + "'");You will see something like
and node value is =`
If I have
<a>
<b>xxx</b>
</a>
a will have three child nodes. The first and third will be text nodes with a newline, and the second will be the b child element.
If I have
<a><b>xxx</b></a>
a will only have one child -- the element b.
Also be aware that if you are processing XML data with SAX and have large
blocks of text in an element, there is no requirement for all parsers to return a single text object. They are free to decide how many text blocks they create.

  • How to append an xml string as a child node to a dom document

    Hi
    I have an xml represented as a String. Now I want to add this xml string as a child node to another DOM Document.
    Do I have to first parse the xml String into a xml Document and then add the nodes to the existing Document. Is there a simpler way to do this. Any input is appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Regarding : Creation of child nodes in a outlinefield

    Hi,
    I am facing a few problems in creating a child node. I read elements from an array to populate the outline field. The array has exact definitions as to what should be a parent and child respectively. While I am able to create nodes at the parent level, I am unable to create child nodes for any parent. I discovered that the value for the parent node is getting lost. I have tried to use some of the methods to arrive at the parent node, but to no anvil. Could some one suggest how exactly to get the value of the parent node so that the child node can be assigned to the parent.
    Thanks In advance.

    P.S : I have seen the examples Simple Outline field and File Browser. No clues from here.

    I take it that you are traversing through the array and loading each
    element into the OutlineField. At the risk of stating the obvious, for
    each element you must also identify it's parent. This is necessary to
    set the relationship from the child to the parent or vise versa.
    If you are already doing this and are still having difficulty, the
    problem may be as simple as setting the IsFolder property of the parent
    node. Unless this is done, it's child nodes will not be visible.

  • RE: Regarding : Creation of child nodes in a outlinefield

    Hi, Balasubramaniam:
    Try to set the isFolder attribute of your parent display node to TRUE.
    This may solve your problem. Also, check isFilled attribute of display
    node, you might find the answer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need to chart attribute value of just one child node of XML document

    I have a XML document with (for example) 7 parent nodes, each
    parent node has 5 child nodes. The parent nodes have an attribute
    @EarlierDTS (DateTime type) that is the x-axis category of a chart.
    Each child node has an attribute @eventid which specifies the id of
    the event, and another atttribute @NumOccurs which specifies how
    many times that event occured in that period.
    How do I tell Flex I want a simple line chart of the eventID
    = 215? What if I want two lines, for both eventID=215 and
    eventid=307?
    I have studied the posts and blogs for over a week now, and
    have seen this question or similar come up quite a few places, with
    no answer.
    1) Should I focus on learning how to create a filterfunction
    for the XMLList that underlies my XMLListCollection so that the
    filtered data view is just one child node per parent node ( or two
    child nodes for the second case)? And set the filtered data view as
    the dataprovider of my chart's vertical series?
    2) Should I focus on learning how to create a XML Filter
    query that selects just one or two child nodes for each parent
    node, and set the charts' series' dataprovider to this filter
    expression? (I don't think this is allowed - but I'm checking with
    the forum members...)
    3) Should I focus on learning how to convert the
    XMLListCollection into a HierarchicalData object, and then learning
    how to filter this object so there is only one (or two) childs per
    parent? This seems like a lot of coding - I almost have to create a
    pair of classes - one for the parent and one for the child - so I
    can create nested ArrayObjects.
    4) Should I create a brand new XMLList by walking the
    original XML list, and inserting Parent nodes and just the child
    nodes that match the eventID(s) I want to chart, into the new
    XMLList?
    I believe that the easiest way would be to create a
    Filterfunction for the XMLList, and bind the chart series to the
    (filtered) XML List. But the problem with this approach is that I
    have seen more than 2 posts asking how to accomplish filtering that
    removes specific children from the view, with no solutions posted.
    Help! What is the best way to get just one child for each
    parent, from an XMLList?

    I'd just look at a dataFunction. There's an example here that
    may point you

  • Context Mapping: child-nodes of non-mapped parent nodes

    I am somewhat curious about Context Mapping in WebDynpro.
    Which parents nodes need to be mapped in order to map child nodes ? Does a child node has more than one parent node (e.g. grandparent - two steps above) ?
    A.1  -
    MAPPED----
    >    B.1
      - A1.1   NOT MAPPED
      - A1.2   NOT MAPPED
            - A.1.2.1     MAPPED TO>    B.1.2.4
            - A.1.2.2   NOT MAPPED
      - A1.3   NOT MAPPED
    Is it sufficient that only one of these parent nodes (e.g. direct parent node not mapped, but parent node of this parent node is mapped) need to be mapped so that the child node can be mapped ?
    Is this assumption true or not ?
    The SAP library states:
    "Conversely, child nodes of non-mapped parent nodes cannot be mapped, otherwise this would result in irresolvable conflicts at runtime with respect to the parent-child relation in the context and the mapping relation." (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/de/51/a3384162316532e10000000a1550b0/content.htm)
    This statement is not absolutely clear on this issue.

    Let me put it this way
    You have a node vehicle and you have a child node for that the car. The car node have parameters car1, car2.
    Let the vehicle node have parameters veh1 and veh2
    Then if you map vehicle node one to any other node (say in the comp. controller) you have the option of mapping its children i.e veh1,veh2 and carnode.
    You can have that veh1 is mapped and veh2 is not mapped.
    vehicle node(mapped)
    veh1(may or may not be mapped)
    veh2(may or may not be mapped)
    car node(may or may not be mapped)
    If instead you try to map only the car node the vehicle node will also get mapped automatically but not it's child parameters like veh1 and veh2.
    vehicle node(mapped)
    veh1(may or may not be mapped)
    veh2(may or may not be mapped)
    car nodemapped)
    car1(may or may not be mapped)
    car2(may or may not be mapped)
    Hope this would help.
    Do revert for further clarification

  • How to differentiate parent and child node in af:treeTable ?

    Greetings,
    I have a requirement, I display master child view objects using <af:treeTable> component, When user expands a parent row, I have to make parent row is in read only and expanded(child) row in editable. To accomplish this I have to identify the 'node' whether it belongs to parent or child view object. In this example Tree table binds with EmpVO, There is a view link beteween EmpVO and DepartmentVO.
    <af:treeTable value="#{bindings.EmpVO.treeModel}"
    var="node"
    rowSelection="single" id="tEqSum"
    summary="Employee Summary"
    <af:column sortProperty="#{bindings.EmpVO.hints.LocCity.name}"
    filterable="true" sortable="true" width="90"
    headerText="#{bindings.EmpVO.hints.LocCity.label}"
    id="c3">
    <af:outputText value="#{node.LocCity}" id="ot21"/>
    expandAllEnabled="false">
    </af:treeTable>
    Thanks in Advance,

    Hi,
    You can find out the node depth by using
    #{bindings.<your_tree_binding>.treeModel.depth}Based on the depth, you can decide whether its a parent node or child node (for a 1 level tree- say dept and emp, the depth for parent would be 0 and for the child it would be 1).

  • Getting list of possible child nodes

    I'm trying to find an automated way to get a list of all the possible child nodes for a given element based on a schema. How does one go about doing that in Java? The closest match I could find was the class ElementEditAS, but it's deprecated with no mentioned replacement or alternative.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You are right, but what may seem simple is not.
    1) You can have combinations of choice and sequence constructs in the contents.
    2) The element definitions are just references to true definitions somewhere else.
    3) You can include other schema files, so you need to work with an arbitrary number of files at the same time.
    Basically, all you have to do is read one or more schema files as XML files, probably using DOM or JDOM or whatever you know. Avoid SAX, since you need the full tree structure of the schema file.
    Having done something similar, be aware that element names are described in attributes of the element tag, and attributes are defined as elements. Be ready to redo your code a time or two because the names you use (attribute and element) are not working as you expected.

  • Storing  data in a  child  node

    Hi All,
    I have a parent node called "tablemain" and child node for it is "tablechild" .
    This "tablechild" has a attribute called "id" .
    I have a input field and "save" button in my output screen.
    If I enter value in inputfield and press save button the value should be stored as 1st element in the node ""tablechild" .
    After clering the value in inputfield and if I again enter a new value in that and press save button the value should be stored as a second element in the "tablechild" .The process should be continued like this.
    How can I do achieve this?Please help me in this.

  • Hierarchy Child Node Insert using ABAP Program

    Hi,
    Requirement is to add  one more child node to an existing child Node for available Custom Cost Center Hierarchy (in BI environment). To meet this requirement,  ABAP Code  is best solution- CMOD-Exit EXIT_SAPLRSAP_004 (ZXRSAU04).
    Is there any Function modules available for inserting Hierarchy Node. I have gone to "How to Download A Hierarchy to a Flat File.pdf" document.
    Any Sample Codes or any documents (on the above mentioned topic) or suggestions to achieve the result is highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sanni

    Any chance you could share what you did here?
    I am looking to read values from a hierarchy using ABAP, and am not sure where to start. Is there a standard table where hierarchy information is stored, or are custom tables created per hierarchy created?
    Cheers,
    Andrew

  • Scene Graph traversal. Getting all the children of a node recursively

    Hi,
    Requirement: To resize all the controls of a scene (including controls that contain text like label, button) as per the scene size
    Approach: To implement the above requirement (see code snippet below), I added Listeners for width and height properties of a Scene and whenever the scene size changes, I get all the children of the root node of the scene and invoked the setScaleX() and setScaleY() for the children.
    Problem: In my design, labels and buttons are wrapped inside VBox, HBox etc. Method getChildrenUnmodifiable() returns only the first level of children and hence my HBox and VBox are getting scaled as per the scene size but not the children of VBox and HBox. Is there a built-in function to get all the children of a node recursively ? Or what is the best way to resize text as the scene size changes ?
    Scene mainScene = new Scene(borderPane, PERMANENT_WIDTH,
                    PERMANENT_HEIGHT, Color.HONEYDEW);
    rootNode = mainScene.getRoot();
            mainScene.widthProperty().addListener(new ChangeListener() {
                @Override
                public void changed(ObservableValue observable, Object oldValue,
                        Object newValue) {
                    Double widthScalingFactor = ((Double) newValue) / PERMANENT_WIDTH;
                     ObservableList<Node> children = rootNode.getChildrenUnmodifiable();
                    for (Node child : children) {
                        child.setScaleX(widthScalingFactor);
            mainScene.heightProperty().addListener(new ChangeListener() {
                @Override
                public void changed(ObservableValue observable, Object oldValue,
                        Object newValue) {
                    Double heightScalingFactor = ((Double) newValue) / PERMANENT_HEIGHT;
                    ObservableList<Node> children = rootNode.getChildrenUnmodifiable();
                    for (Node child : children) {
                        child.setScaleY(heightScalingFactor);
            });Thanks.

    Added the following code to get all the children recursively. now the scaling is applied to all nodes of a scene.
        private static void getChildren(Parent parentNode) {
            if (parentNode.getChildrenUnmodifiable().size() != 0) {
                ObservableList<Node> tempChildren = parentNode
                        .getChildrenUnmodifiable();
                allChildren.addAll(tempChildren);
                for (Node n : tempChildren)
                    getChildren((Parent) n);
            } else
                allChildren.add(parentNode);
        }

  • BOM: Finding Children Nodes For a Given Parent Node

    Hi,
    I am trying to find the longest path for a particular BOM material. I am using the FM CS_BOM_EXPL_MAT_V2 to explode the BOM to get the materials (including children nodes etc.). I think, in this scenario, a recursive function would be the best way to go. The problem is to find the children nodes for a node in a particular level. Looking at the structure STPOX and the fields STUFE (Level), WGEXX (path) , TTIDX (index) and VWGEX (path, multi-level), I cannot find a logical way to link the children nodes to a parent node although visually I can see how things are connected when the FM returns the STB table..
    For example: TBL_STB returns from FM:
    STUFE     WEGXX     BMTYP     TTIDX     VWEGX     OJTXB
    1     1     M     1     0     MATXX1
    2     1     M     2     1     MATXX2
    3(a)     1     M     3     1              MATXX3
    4(c)     1     M     4     1              MATXX4
    4(d)     2     M     4     1              MATXX5
    3(b)     2     M     3     1              MATXX6
    4(e)     3     M     5     2              MATXX7
    4(f)     4     M     5     2              MATXX8
    Visually, we can tell that  Level 2 has one item 2, level 3 has 2 items, 3(a) and 3(b), Level 4 has 4 items where 4c and 4d are connected to 3a and 4e and 4f are connected to 3b.
    Going through STPOX structure itself, how can we find out that 4c and 4d belongs to assembly 3a but 4e and 4f belong to 3b??  If someone can explain the uses of the differnet indicators in STPOX (or other) where I can find out the children from the parent, it would be greatly helpful to write the recursive function..
    Thanks in advance..
    P.S. I will give points out immediately for any useful answers..

  • How to assign ALV for parent node and child node that uses supply method.?

    HI Dear friends,
        I need to display header details ( VBAK ) and Item details ( VBAP ). I have created two node like HEADER_NODE inside this i have created ITEM_NODE for this item node i use supply function 'GET_ITEMS'  any way it is working only when crete two separate table and binding but when i come to work with ALV i am totally confused .. i have created two 'View Controller UI Elements'   when i try to map HEADER_NODE  it mapped properly but for ITEM_NODE it shows mapping already defined. return status message as 'Action Cancelled' . In result both ViewContainer shows only HEADER_NODE data only.
    How to achive ALV for  Parent, child node that uses supply function ? ?
    Thank you

    Delete Mapping is not enabled, that means there is no mapping done yet.
    I just tried what you are saying and the application works and i am able to map the header table and item table and also again i could map the tables any number of times.. i didn't get any such message, sorry i couldn't recreate the scenario. might be there is something wrong in the context.
    i just did it like this.
    Please also move this to Web DynPro Discussion, Hope that would be helpful.
