Unbelievable no solution for FMS3 and FLVPlayback???

I've spent the past 2 days scouring Google and dozens (easily over 100) websites
trying to find an answer to something that people do every day!
I am absolutely shocked that this info is not available anywhere online.
A simple FMS3 and AS3 and RTMP and FLVPlayback example....
totaly not simple and not possible to find!!
I try every possible combination:

i think i know where the problam come from
its from point number 8 in your raplay:
8. Make sure you have a publisher connected to your 'server' using the 'appname'
and streaming a live stream with the name 'streamname'
I thought i do not need a publisher to be connected to my appname in my server.
i thought FLVPlayback is doing the netConnection and start streaming the flv
that are already published and sitting on the server.
Is it not possible for the user that use swf with the FLVPlayback to make a netConnection
by ac3 code or some other wey and the FLVPlayback will use that connection to play the flv for that user
without third party connected publisher?
If not - maybe i can use HTTP to let the FLVPlayback play the flv for the user
but that bring me to other problem:
my localhost is at:
C:\inetpub\wwwroot\
the flv is at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Flash Media Server 3.5\applications\appName\streams\videos\flvName.flv
what will be the http url for the flv?

Heat up the bottom rubber mat with a hairdryer for 5-10 minutes to loosen the adhesive, then pull the rubber mat away from the bottom metal plate carefully.
Then use a screwdriver to remove the 10-12 screws to open up the case.

I was tasked to put together the best machine (machines) for video editing / rendering .. money is not an issue.
My client is a TV broadcasting network and they do lots of videos everyday .. They want to render their work as FAST as possible because sometimes they have tight deadlines and rendering and re rendering (if there are mistakes) has cost them .. so now they're serious about getting the best technology to achieve best rendering time possible, but in a bit of practical sense of course.. i mean there's no sense spending 1000USD or more for a piece of technology that offers under 10 second faster rendering only ..
What they do and want
- edit/put together/ sequence lots of videos constantly, under premiere cs3 (will upgrade to cs4 on the new machine)
- use affter effects for some effects and 3D stuffs.. but not that much.. but increasingly as time goes by and their video editors get more affter effects training..
- needs really really fast rendering!! Right now it takes them typically 1-2 hours to render stuffs, and what to cut this time by half or more..
Existing Setups on work stations:
Intel QuadCore (Q6600, i7, Q9550, Xeon x3220, and the likes)
4GB RAM DDR2 1066mhz

I am an somewhat of an expert in Hardware and stuff, i build custom PC's machines most of my life but i have limiited knowledge on optimizing hardware for VIDEO EDITING stuffs.. so i turn to you all.
I do understand that w/ video editing CPU is the most important, followed by RAM, and ofcourse by HDD for disc caches and stuff.. and where videocard may come to an advantage as well. and normally i'd suggest the fastest components available . i7 , extreme processors, skulltrail dual quad setups perhaps? RAID 0 SSD Drive? etc.. but I do not know w/c gives the most advantage, and w/c is a waste of money..
I also read about quadro cards offering really big performance improvements using CUDA tech etc..
again im not the expert at this type of requirment.. so i need your advises..
with unlimitted PRACTICAL budget given to me to come up w/ a solution I initially thought a rendering farm would be the solution, but upon reading around it seems there's no rendering farm solution for PP CS4.. just the adobe after effects part.. so i had to go back to the drawing board and suggest really powerful work stations instead..and perhaps have them migrate to 64bit OS for that "extra" performance.. i myself am on win7 64bit and it's looking mighty good.
1) is this the right move?
2) is it still worth it to put together rendering farm for AE renders only? or might as well concentrate funds on the machines/workstations?
Also along the PRACTICALITY LINE, would it be practical to maintain all the existing machines, and instead build a manned RENDERING MACHINE w/ PP and AE (basically desktop or Server if they are faster at rendering w/ the best specs for the purpose etc) where they can just throw the workload to some guy there for rendering? Atleast the editors can continue using the workstations while the rendering machine guy is at work? and even perhaps setup a gigabit lan network where the RENDERING MACHINES can dynamically pull the work load via the network , not needing to transfer the files to the rendering machine first ? etc
as you can see im not only looking for the best machine, but the best STRATEGY for my client.

in a nut shell no. if you do not have to "Share" then Avid is pointless Adobe is a far better answer.
Avid solutions still need a computer. The Mojo.Nitris are a joke and Avid no longer provides computers even the Symphany comes with your choice of Apple Mac Pro or HP 800. (Dual Xeon)
there are better "hardware" answers that what Avid sells for Adobe. Decklink, Aja to name a few.
if you have to share then you have no choice. this is the one area Abode does not lead.
renders have to do primarily with 2 things CPU power (Xeon will render faster than single i7)
and Drives. the faster your drive set up the faster the render. Memory does play a part and so does the video card depending on what codec and to what
it also depends on WHAT you are rendering and from what for the HDDs.
without knowing your work flow format and codec its impossible to suggest something.
in terms of rendering
Core i7
Dual Xeon (faster unless still doing DV/HDV thru firewire)

Temporary solution for PSDs and Illustrator 64 bit

I found a temporary solution to the problem of placing or opening PSDs on 64bit computers in Illustrator CS3 and CS4.
Right click the icon for Illustrator and select Properties /
Compatibility
Then select Run this program in compatibility mode for
Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
It doesn't affect the other programs - only temporarily changes the screen for Illustrator only.
I can now open and place layered PSDs directly into Illustrator again.

Best HW solution for Avid and FCP

Hi there,
I have a MacPro system running both FCP and Avid. I'm currently using a Mojo to monitor from Avid and just using my DSR-25 to monitor output from FCP. However, it's a little annoying having to disconnect or change wires every time I want to use a different system.
Does anyone know of any hardware that would provide monitoring for both systems that would also connect up to a DVCam based deck at the same time? I currently use a DAC-10 at work but it seems to have problems when a deck is connected to it. Or am I best to stick with the Mojo and get a PCI-E based solution for FCP? Many thanks!

Don't think there's a fix for you here... the codecs used by Avid and those used by FCP aren't the same so all hardware made for the systems is unique to the systems they are intended for. I'd suggest you get off the fence and go one way or the other and stay there...
Look at AJA products for the best in FCP monitoring solutions. You can't have two FW devices connected at the same time either. i.e. the DAC and a FW deck... the OS doesn't deal with more than one at a time.

Seeking solution for css and js making client very heavy around 800KB

I have developed GUI using web dynpro,
deployed the application in enterprise portal,
when i save the web page in local machine from browser(IE),
the HTML + css+ js file size comes around 700-800KB.
How can i reduce this so that i can use it in internet.
For internet application noone can afford more than 40 KB in client, Please any solution to the above problem ASAP

The css and js are around 500 KB.
These files get downloaded only when the request is for the first time.
So first time hit will be time taking but from the next time it will be fast.
If u can check and tell the file sizes of css and js of your application, then i can compare with mine.
But generally web applications should be very light in size.so , should i go for struts and can u give me the
advantages and disadvantages of web dynpro against struts.
Web dynpro pages are rendered in client browser ? and which framework does it follow ? is it ajax or ?????

I heard that Oracle Express DATABASE is free. Is it absolutely true?
Also I heard that if you use developer (forms, reports builder) and you leave the FMX / REP files in your customer it is also for free (no license cost).
How true is it?

That is only half true, and the part about Oracle Express only applies as long as the database remains less than 1 GB in size.
I have not heard any indication that Developer 6i/9i/10g content can be developed and used without a license. Oracle Applications Express (HTMLDB replacement) is a cool Free tool that interacts well with Oracle Express.

Qosmio X300-16D - thermal pad/paste solution for CPU and Nvidia MCP

Can anyone suggest a good (specific) thermal solution for the Qosmio X300-16D CPU and Nvidia MCP?
I ask because there is a slight complication with the 16D (an SLI setup)... the heatsink for the CPU and Nvidia MCP are connected in the same thermal module, but while the CPU heatsink is screwed down, the Nvidia MCP chip is not - so there is a large gap between that chip and the heatsink.
I'm guessing some form of thermal pad should be used here rather than grease/paste? Does anybody know what thermal pad has been used by Toshiba for this, or point me to a high quality replacement that is suitable to be used?

As far as I know the thermal grease 776 (part num: K000055600) could be used.
But there are different cooling pends as mentioned by Akuma.
There is an thermal fan 1 for DUAL-VGA (K000061940) and thermal fan 2 for dual VGA (K000061950) as well.
I assume both are for SLI configuration.
There are also some other cooling modules for VGA (VGA THERMAL MODULE-1-GT-NB9E K000065560 and VGA THERMAL MODULE-2-NB9E-W/O TMA K000065560)

Solution for teachers (and others) to lock down the iPod

Hello all. I just have to share something I found yesterday. If you've seen other posts of mine, I am a teacher with a class set of iPod nanos. I have audiobooks on them so the students can listen to and read the book at the same time. My problem was that there are preinstalled games on the iPod nano that cannot be removed. After contacting my educational contact at Apple, she said they have sent it up the pipes, but as of yet there is no solution. Well I found one!
First off, it is not my solution. I attended FETC this year and went back to their website and found a partial solution. The person's name is Luis Perez. He has two websites: http://etc.usf.edu/te_mac/ for mac and http://etc.usf.edu/te_win/ for windows. So here is how you do it.
Create a text file in a text editor that has the following:

save the file as preferences.txt
Create another text file with the following:
Name of link goes here
Here is my completed one:
Click for Audiobooks
Save this under whatever filename you want. I chose Audiobooks.txt
In iTunes make sure you have a playlist named whatever you put in the file. (NOTE: it must be a playlist, it wouldn't link to just audiobooks)
Sync the iPod in disk mode. Open the iPod in Finder or explorer and copy both files into the NOTES folder. Eject the iPod. Now the only thing the iPod will do is go to the notes folder. (it is in a sense 'locked down') Your other file should be listed. When you open that file (audiobooks.txt) it will say the name of your link. When you click that it will start with the first song/book in that playlist. You cannot go to any other thing on the iPod. When you hit menu, it goes right back to the notes folder.
PLEASE NOTE: if you want to 'unlock' the iPod, just trash the preferences.txt file you put on there.
I know it is rather long, but it is a solution I have been looking for. I am hoping other teachers or people who need to secure the iPod for whatever reason are helped by this. Let me know if you have questions.

Possible solution for -8 and other connection errors

I've been struggling recently to make connections with people, often seeing the -8 error. This happened even with the most simple network setup we could find, with our routers either running with uPnP enabled or disabled, and ports forwarded or not. Often we could connect individually to the Apple test accounts, but not each other.
The fix that worked for me, and also for someone else on these boards, was to look at our network "ports" on the Macs themselves. Not the TCP/UDP ports, but the "ethernet" , "airport", etc.
If you open system preferences, Network, and from the Show: dropdown at the top choose "Network Port Configuration" you will see the hardware network ports on your machine. If you use your machine in multiple environments, such as with a wired Ethernet port, Airport, perhaps a Firewire network too, your Mac may have several IP addresses assigned to itself, even if only one is active. Installing virtualization software such as Parallels adds more ports here, with more IP numbers.
Whilst running iChat in debug mode, and watching outbound connections through Little Snitch, I saw that firstly iChat thought I had multiple IP addresses which it attempted to open uPnP with, and secondly my outbound packets had the private internal IP address of one of the Parallels network ports the person I was trying to communicate with - which would never be delivered.
What we did was disable all the ports in the System Preferences described above, except for the one in use. We then restarted iChat and our video streams opened! I believe that iChat simply gets confused about which IP address to do its uPnP mojo with, and disabling the ones not in use makes it choose the correct one.
If you follow this advice, remember to re-enable the ports you disable when you use want to use them in future.
I'm convinced this is the cause of the problem - even when I use my MacBook behind a commercial locked down Watchguard firewall the video conferencing still works, which suggests that it's not the opening of ports through the firewall that's the issue, at least for some people.
I hope this is useful information for people struggling with -8 errors - let me know how you get on.

after applying the AirPort Extreme 2007-001 update:
This is (often) soluble by disabling any third-party
wireless signal monitoring or sniffing utilities.
I don't think Little Snitch was causing any problems, for me at least. It did let me see that it was trying to talk to the other machine's non-active IP address, which is what led me to turning off the other network ports.
It's quite informative to see which TCP and UDP ports are being actively used, and where they're going.

Wireless storage solution for mac and pc network?

I am trying to figure out a way for my pc's and power book to share files through a shared wireless hard drive. I need a new hard drive anyway, as mine is just about filled, but it seems silly to save all of my music to each computer instead of one location that all of them can access. Linksys has one, model # EFG250. Does anyone know if it will work. Will it work with a mac? Are there other solutions out there?

You can always set up a network and keep the music on one computer and point all the other computers to that one library. I keep all my music on my iMac and have my BlackBook and three PCs pointed to it to share the music over the network.
Those NAS drives are very expensive for what you get. Since you are planning on upgrading your drive, get a large drive and save the money.
If you really want to do this externally, the new Airport Express base station has a USB port in it that can be used to access an external drive over the network. I understand you can also use a USB hub to hook more than one drive into it.
That might be worth looking into.
