Undetected CD-RW

I have a burned cd-rw that I tried erasing in my superdrive, and the app froze trying to erase it. Now my computer doesnt recognize that there is a disk in the drive. I have tried burning a cd from itunes, but it says "please enter a blank disk". I've tried holding the eject button. I've tried numerous apps like disk utility to eject it, but my computer is set on telling me a disk isnt in the computer when there really is one in it. Any help, and I would love it thanks

I've been watching this topic for the past few weeks, since my Macbook optical drive has also quit (and was hardly ever used). Seems like every day there's a new person coming on to this forum with the same problem. Obviously a manufacturer's defect! I checked Apple Support, and found out there is an extended warranty on my hard drive, as they are known to malfunction. They replaced my hard-drive last week, with a larger one. (Happy about that!) Optical drive still dead. So I think we should ALL contact Apple Support, and ask to have our optical drives recalled/repaired/replaced.

Zen Touch 'undetect

I've had my 20GB Creative Zen Touch for about a few weeks and I've been using Windows Media Player to 'synch' audio files to the player and up until a couple of days ago this was working fine but now when I attach the player to my computer it is undetected and tells me to try again etc... I'm not sure if source of the problem is Windows Media Player or my Zen Touch.

External Hard Disk has become undetectable

My WD external harddrive 500Gb use to show up on my computer, and is suddenly undetectable.
It does however show up on the Disc Utility, but I can't verify or repair it.
I have important video footage on the drive, and would like to retrieve it..... Help!

Yes, the mount button is enabled. When I click on it:
The disk “Apple Elements” could not be mounted.
Try running First Aid on the disk and then retry mounting.
Then I click on Verify Disc:
Invalid sibling link
The volume Apple Elements needs to be repaired
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
Then I click on Repair Disc:
Invalid sibling link
The volume Apple Elements could not be repaired
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
I've never had a problem with this drive until now, and I've had it 6months.

Lacie external hard drive undetected (USB)

My Lacie 500GB external hard drive is undetectable by my iMac G5. It just happened one day when I clicked on the icon on my desktop and the error message said it was undetectable. I secured the USB cables and made sure there was power. I also verified that the external hard drive is NOT showing in my system profiler. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Since this problem occurred, have you powered off (shut down) your computer (along with the Lacie drive) and restarted?
This is a USB drive, not FireWire, correct?
Is the drive the type that has its own power supply, or the type that is powered by the port (a smaller 2.5-inch drive)?
Did you try it on a different port, and with a different USB cable?

How Do I "Re-Write" a Canon RAW file or a Nikon RAW File, Undetected

I need to "re-write" a native camera RAW file and do it undetected.
Can Aperture or any software tool, on any platform accomplish this goal?

Here are my responses to your own post above. Most of your statements below are not based on facts. (i.e. “compacted shirts” and “enough room”) We are talking about taking digital pictures into court where such statements will be directly challenged. Please throw me a bone here and post some facts!
Your Statement
The problem with that argument is that you are not in fact losing anything - you are only compressing it. And not in the JPG sense.
My Response
A 48-bit image contains a maximum of 281,474,976,710,656 trillion possible colors.
A 24 bit image contains a maximum of 16,777,216 million possible colors.
Of course you are losing data if you eliminate 281,474,959,933,440 possible colors from the equation and force the rest to display within the 24-bit range! The 48-bit colors are not compressed, their actual numeric color values are being converted to a color within the 24-bit range.
Your Statement
If you think about what moving from a 48-bit tonal range to a 24-bit tonal range means
in practical terms, all it does is compress the tonal range a bit. So you still have everything that was there - it's just that some things that were very close before become jammed together. It's like a shirt in an overstuffed suitcase, it's simply compacted but that does not mean anything is gone - all your clothes are still there even if it would seem when unpacked they would not all be in the suitcase.

You think that that removal of 65,280 possible variables within a tonal range scale is “a bit?” A 24-bit tonal range scale is limited to 256. During the conversion from 48-bit to 24-bit there is a permanent elimination of possible color values and this severely limits the color/tonal range when the conversion is completed.
For others that read this post:
A 24-bit tonal range is an actual numeric scale from 0 to 255.
A 48-bit tonal range is an actual numeric scale from 0 to 65,535.

Furthermore in some cases it could be that you would be able to go the other way, from JPG to TIFF and get the original tonal range. All it would require is enough "room" between tonal ranges.

You can not “go the other way” and get more out of the picture! I have to ask you where would the “room” come from and where would the factual data values come from? The tonal ranges listed above are absolute. Any “additional” colors would be interpolated from existing color/tonal values during the conversion from 24-bit to 48-bit. There would be more data but none of it original.

Consider a picture of a wall with black and white squares in a flat light. That's going to occupy the same tonal range in either a TIFF or a JPG. White and Black are still absolutes in the picture, it's just that the absolute is represented by a slightly different number.

The absolute value for black is the same. The value for white is different by exactly 281,474,959,933,440 colors.
For others that read this post:
Inside a 24 bit image, black is 0,0,0, white is 255, 255, 255.
Inside a 48 bit image, black is 0,0,0 white is 65535, 65535, 65535.

I must agree a very esoteric discussion indeed! I have not heard of anyone using a comparison between the two formats. Our courts are a more than a bit behind the times when it comes to digital imaging. RAW files have been used in court for a couple of years now and they have yet to be challenged. As technology evolves, so will the courts. As new technology is introduced, older methods are used less and considered less reliable.
An example of this is our use of DNA, Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid, as a means of identification. DNA is considered more reliable that witness testimony! There have been about 175 cases to date where DNA has proven that a person was wrongly convicted! (So much for the photographer’s testimony!)

MAKE A MOVIE CLIP UNDETECTABLE TO CURSOR IN ACTIONSCRIPT.

Simple problem.
On layer1 we have a button.
On layer2 we have a symbol_MC (which is a movie clip with animation embedded inside) overlapping the button.
Result.
The button cannot be rolled-over or clicked due to symbol_MC overlapping it.
Solution.
Obviously I need to make the symbol_MC on layer2 which is overlapping the button undetectable to the cursor,
so that when the cursor rolled over symbol_MC, it detects the button instead.
I don't have any code to make symbol_MC undetectable to the cursor!

Error on Micro SD While taking picture. Micro SD Undetected.

Hello this is my first time using a Micro SD, my last phone was Xperia S. While I was taking picture I got an error, my phone does not detect my Micro SD and also my Laptop can't detect it. It's a 32GIG Transcender. My phone is fine but no more Micro SD.
Anyone knows what to do and how to fix an undetected Micro SD? This is my first time using a Micro SD.

I am currently testing the **bleep** out of a 16GB Sony UHS1 40MB/s.
The results are very promising. Heavy file transfers, deleting and recopying. Switching between media (like playing music, then going to movie app and switching straight to movie from SD card while music is playing from SD card). And so far no corruption.
Unfortunately it doesnt rule out 64GB SD problems, but it might. 16GB could be more rugged - perhaps the internals are thicker?? They certainly come much cheaper.
Maybe top end cards only will work without fault.
Not really wanting to spend $100 on an SD card, but I think it could be a solution.
I have seen many stories of top end cards getting roasted, but if mine works, then it works with a high end Sony SD Card.

Simultaneous ASDW key press undetected

Hi guys, I'm currently developing a game that uses ASDW buttons for its movement system
During one of my testing session, i realized that if i press 2 buttons simultaneously, (ex: A and S), both events would be dispatched one after the other (just like what i assume they would do)
But if i press 3 buttons simultaneously, (ex: A, S and D), the last keypress (D) will go undetected
Only after i release one of the keys (either A or S) will the last keypress be detected

Because i might be wrong, but i think i've played several non-flash games before that possess the ability to address multiple keypress at the same time
- Can this problem be fixed?

The problem comes from the way in which the signal for the pressed keys moves from your keyboard to your computer. The signal is only 8-bit, and there are limits to how the signal can be changed to represent more than one key being pressed in combination.
Long story short, the guys who designed the origional keyboards made a descision to support all two key combinations, and then selected as many three key combinations as they could support with the hardware. This meant that some combinations had to be left out, and they had to make a descision about which ones were more important.

USB 3 hard drive undetected (anywhere) only works if plugged into USB port on apple Keyboard

I have the 2013 Mac Pro: OSX 10.10.2, 512GB SSD, Quad Xeon, Dual D500's.
I am using a (powered by adapter) toshiba 2TB external USB3 HDD
Until last week the hard drive worked fine under OSX, however since then it is completely undetected if plugged into and of the 4 USB ports on the Mac Pro
However if I plug it into one of the two USB ports on my apple wired keyboard (the one with num pad) it it detected and mounts no problem.
Normally only mice work in the keyboard USB ports (if I plug in a USB stick it says something along the lines of not enough power). There is nothing wrong with the hard drive, I've tested it on other computers, also the same thing happens with a 2.5" hdd I have on a SATA to USB adapter. (I do not know if this is USB 2 or 3, but it only functions plugged into the keyboard, and it doesn't have external power, everything is drawn through USB)
Any solutions?
I'm not looking for "ignore the issue and keep plugging it into the keyboard" as I've been told elsewhere, that's not a solution. I'd prefer to sometimes use a wireless keyboard, and therefore do not wish to plug in an additional wired keyboard just to use my hard drives.

If you're running Java 7, then in System Preferences > Java > Java Control Panel in the Security tab there is a check box to enable Java in your browser. To check for update go to the Update tab.

If your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken to use a different carrier then the update locks it back again to the original carrier.

Undetected spyware sending e-mail???

When I wake my iMac I sometimes hear mail being sent, however, there were no messages holding in the outbox and no copy of mail just sent shows in the sent folder. Could undetected spyware possibility be involved?
I am running a full scan with MacScan to check, but has anyone else expereinced this?

In following up, the full scan with MacScan found no malware or spyware. I deleted the plists for Mail and Safari and restarted, which has helped somewhat with the amount of disk activity I hear when running these apps. I hear way too much disk activity on this machine when opening or using Safari in particular, but also with other apps, which I don't hear on our other Macs with identical drives. While the issue of unknown e-mails being sent doesn't appear at this point to have anything to do with an overactive drive as I thought it may, I still need to address the drive issue, since it slows the performance of the machine. I use DiskWarrior to rebuild the directories when I think it needs it, which helps, but doesn't eliminate the overactive drive issue.

I search/read many Apple Discussions, but i didn't find any topic resolving the issue that i'm confronted.
Here is the fact :
- My iPhone est completely undetectable by my Mac or PC, but the battery is charging...
- iTunes or Image Transfert do not detect it
- About my Mac or Parallel Desktop do not show the iPhone Device into their USB Device available (just for info)
Solution i've tried, but it failed :
- Switching the connected USB port
- Switching the USB Cable (Apple and not Apple)
- Reinstall iTunes (following http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591) both on Mac and PC
- Reset the parameters on the iPhone
- Start/Stop/Restart Mac, PC and iPhone
How things happened ? i don't know... my iPhone didn't fall, no jailbreak, no specials thing done etc... excepted the last OSX Update done last friday 26/03 (Aperture and iMovie update)... but i don't really think that it could be the source of my troubles...
Well, did anyone have a software solution ? or... is it really an Hardware problem with my iPhone....

Zen Micro undetected, after PlaysForSure Firmware upgrade! *USB 2.0 er

Half way through the PFS?firmware installation, a Found new Hardware window pop up, prompt me to install software for USB 2.0 device. I carried on to install hardware, but it just can't find the suitable software. After I close the pop up, the upgrade installation went dead. The next time i plug my zen micro, the pc can't detect it! The only thing workable is the removable disk. I can't reinstall the software becos the pc cannot detect the zen micro (i tried all usb ports)?Some other info:-Everytime i plug my zen micro in, the Found new Hardware window will pop up, prompt me to install software for USB 2.0 device. Before u tell me it's my chipset problem, i have no problem with other devices that use usb 2.0, and this problem occurs ONLY after i tried installing the firmware, ONLY on zen micro. My zen micro was working PERFECTLY fine before this. -My?zen micro's system information states that the firmware is 2.2.02, though i mentioned earlier that the installation went dead. I am pretty sure this undetection problem is cause by the firmware upgrade. I hope all zen micro users who read this post will stop their intention to upgrade to this firmware, until a solution arri'ves. Hope i can have some "real" help on this. Any user from this forum who has the same problem, can post to share. Anyone who are able to solve this, pls post too, much appreciated.
