Unexpected behavior on 5.1.19 Select query

Hello There,
We are seeing an unexpected behavior on 11.2.5.1.19 where we are expecting our query should response “X” number of records while it response us back with less number of records in some situation. While looking to the change log we did notice that a fix has been added to 11.2.5.1.25 as follows:
“Fixed a bug that would return DB_NOTFOUND while searching for an existing item using a cursor on a non-sorted duplicate btree database. [#19210]”
We were wondering whether that fix could resolve this issue or not? If yes, is there a way we can get a Patch to apply and validate so that we can move to 11.2.5.1.25 or newer versions.
Here is what we are doing, Within an application we have two threads, One is Inserting/Updating record in the table while the other one is selecting, and all DB operations are done in transaction. Select thread comes after certain time whenever a condition is satisfied. Although it work fine most of the time but there are situation where select response with fewer records that we expected, that causes our program to died as expected. However, if we query the Database (using dbsql) after the application died using the same select query/criteria we could able to select the exact same number of records that we were expecting to see. We are not sure what is going wrong here, any help is appreciated.
Regards & Thanks

Hi Rittick,
I have made some modifications to the example program ex_sql_multi_thread.c,
based on the information you sent in email. So far I can not reproduce the
problem either. This does look like something we have seen before:
Berkeley DB lost data sometimes when I ran the example ex_sql_multi_thread
but it is difficult to pinpoint without an exact reproducer. One thought is
if you can try the application with the latest Berkeley DB release which
is: 5.3.15. Some race conditions were fixed in that release and since you can
reproduce the behavior with 5.1 and 5.2 you should be able to verify if
it is present or not in 5.3.15.
Thanks,
Sandra

    Hello everyone,
I need to create a select query which involves using of Dynamic Tables.

SELECT * FROM (wa_all_tables-name) INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE <d1>

It would appear that the java backtrace here came from either client or middle tier java rather than java running in the database server. If so, this isn't the appropriate forum for this question. The JVM forum is for questions related to the Oracle proprietary Java VM that runs in the database server. Unfortunately I can't suggest a more appropriate forum as I don't recognize the code that appears to be in use.

  • Select query, case statment

    Hi,
I have two tables Registration and Place.
"Registration" table has Name and Registration_id column and "place" table has Registration_id, task_id and state columns. So both tables have inner join on Registration_id column.
now one Registration_id has two task_id
    so for example,
    Name
    Registration_id
    task_id
    State
    Vicky
    101
    11
    NY
    Vicky
    101
    12
    CA
Now in output table "Person",  I have 2 columns, one is Birth and one is Death.
So one person has 1 Registration_id associated and that Registration_id has two records in "Place" table,
Now condition is like this, for same Registration_id if task_id = 11 put state value in Birth column and  if task_id = 12 put state value in Death column.
So for example output (Select query for Person table)should looks like below,
    Name
    Registration_id
    Birth
    Death
    Vicky
    101
    NY
    CA
So please tell me select query for this output from above 2 source tables which I use to insert records into "Person" table. (Just for information - I have 12 source tables and there are many columns I have to select from these source tables
and this is the part of that select statement where I am stuck for now). Please let me know if you need any more detail on this.
I think, we have to write subquery in select statement. like,
    Select
    Birth =(select
STATE from PLACE pl inner join on Registration R ON R.Registration_id = pl.Registration_id
    where
    TASK_ID = 136)
    , Death
    =(select
STATE from PLACE pl inner join on Registration R ON R.Registration_id = pl.Registration_id
    where
    TASK_ID = 141)
    , other columns
    From other source tables.
    Thank you in advance.
    Vicky

I can refine my question if it does not provide you enough information.
The stack trace i displayed here states that oracle jdbc driver has found the connection to be closed, interrupted etc.
Application behaves perfectly under normal load but blows up as soon as we reach 3000 concurrent sessions. No firewall is breaking connections, the select query that we observe this behavior for is part of a larger workflow that write data, update some, delete some as well in different tables. Then we see above stack trace for the select query.
I am trying to explore possible options to investigate. One i mentioned is related to Solaris file descriptors. Could it be database it self?
Any possible course of action for investigation? Help is much appreciated.
Oracle errors get reported with error code & message; like ORA-01555 Snapshot Too Old; which is not present in your post.
You indicated that Connection Pooling is used.
Is there some (artificial) limit within the application that falls off the cliff at 3000 sessions?
Oracle does not know or care about the "flavor" of client connection. It treats jdbc the same as OCI or ODBC connections.
Is OS limited to fixed number of open file handles?

Are you this rude or really ignorant and too lazy to read the Netiquette at the start to this forum? Why do you think you do not need a key? No DDL? No constraints? And , why, why do you think that “tb1” is a precise, ISO-11179 conforming table name?
Let's make this a table of rude posters rated on a 4-star scale.
    CREATE TABLE Rude_Posters
    (first_name VARCHAR(15) NOT NULL,
     last_name VARCHAR(15) NOT NULL,
     PRIMARY KEY (first_name, last_name),
     rudeness_code VARCHAR (4) NOT NULL
       CHECK (rudeness_code IN ('x', 'xx', 'xxx', 'xxxx'));
    INSERT INTO Rude_Posters

    ('Steve', 'Harper', 'x'),
    ('Barrack', 'Obama', 'x'),

    ('Bill', 'Clinton', 'xx');
    >> I'd like to write a SELECT query that only lists the rows where the count for rudeness_code is > 1, i.e not display the last two rows from the above entry. <<
The rudeness scale is based on stars, so to ask for an integer value is like saying “on a scale from 1 to 10, what is the color of your favorite letter of the alphabet?”
Next, the number of stars and your narrative do not match. Did you want to say WHERE rudeness_code IN ('xx' 'xxx', 'xxxx')?
Please stop programming SQL until you have gotten more education. At this point, you do not know enough to ask a question.

  • DNS SRV Proxy Lookup and Failover Mechanism / Unexpected Behavior

    Group,
I came across some unexpected behavior yesterday I was wondering if someone could help shed some light on the problem. In my DNS I created this record: _sip._upd.platautofinance.com which when I do a query using MX Toolbox it is correctly reporting the following:
On the SPA504 I have programmed the SRV records into the system using the following:
So here is the issue, the phones will register correctly to the primary server but after a length of time ALL the phones will abandon ship and jump to the secondary server and stay there. I have to manually shut the secondary down, reboot the endpoints at which point they will re-register with the primary. So I think I need to understand the mechanism a bit better. Here is what I can think of:
The phones are not using the primary DNS service record providers DNS servers, we are using OpenDNS instead of Network Solutions <-- Unlikely because the SPA would not be able to resolve the SIP SRV records / servers at all with a broken DNS resolution. I can tell by dropping from the primary to the secondary that resolution is taking place on the phone because they are jumping between the right ones.
My understanding is the proxy fallback interval should have the phone register (and they should be checking periodically if the primary is available again and if so, re-register the to the lowest-weighted server) but that's not happening without a manual reboot. Once on the secondary they want to stay there.
My firewall for both the primary and secondary servers do not answer ICMP.
So the question is: why do the SPA phones think the primary is offline? What is the mechanism or criteria the SPA uses to determine a server is offline and then rolling to the secondary? Why do they want to stick around the secondary which is using only a best effort connection when we have a bonded T on the primary?
Thanks as always for your help and input group! Appreciate your time.

    Hello Adam,
I believe it will be easier if you call SBSC and ask the questions directly. The questions are very good and exact. I will try to answer shortly. Assuming you use only CCA to configure the system.
    1. If you have set dns for your internet connection it should work, you may try with different dns servers. Please delete the SIP trunk and recreate it.
    2. Please delete the SIP trunk and recreate it.
    3. If you need to configure more codecs through CCA you may send feature request using envelope button of the CCA.
I hope the above answers will be helpful although very short. If they are not helpful please contact SBSC and open a case.
    Best regards,
    Alex

  • Select Query Problem

    Hi Experts,
I am having a select query in which I am using a variable in the where condition but it is giving error. Please suggest how to use variable in the select query.
The query I am using is a s below.
    select * from zexc_rec into table it_ZEXC_REC
          where
           LIFNR in S_LIFNR and
          DOCNO in S_DOCNO and
          DOCTYP in doc_typ and
          DATE1 in S_DATE1 and
          MATNR in S_MATNR.
    Here doc_typ is a variable.
    Thanks.

    Rahul,
use RANGES type variable instead of variable . It acts as a select-options variable. Thn use this variable in SELECT query with IN.
    Eg :
    RANGES r_t510 FOR t510-lgart.
        r_t510-low = '1600'.
        APPEND r_t510.
        r_t510-low = '3190'.
        APPEND r_t510.
Note  : can be use SIGN, OPTIONS properties too in RANGES type.
More deatils go through on HELP of RANGES

  • Unexpected Behavior error while creating a connection in IDT

    Hi Everyone,
I have created a connection on top of a database using ODBC.
I could able to see the connection in IDT.
I have mentioned the user name and pw correctly  and tried testing the connection and got the error "unexpected behavior"
    PFA error.
what could be the reason? any idea?
    Thanks.

I find this 32-bit vs. 64-bit ODBC somewhat confusing.  I know you aren't dealing with Crystal Reports, but this blog post does provide some clarity.  It has a link to this Microsoft knowledge base article from which I quote...
A 64-bit version of the Microsoft Windows operating system includes the following versions of the
Microsoft Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) Data Source Administrator tool (Odbcad32.exe):
The 32-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe file is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\SysWoW64 folder.
The 64-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe file is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\System32 folder.
One other warning.  In my experience I have found that you cannot run both the 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC admin tools at the same time.  If you have one running and try and start the other one it will just bring up the one you already had running.
To make sure I know which instance I am in at any give time I have created a dummy data source that corresponds to the instance; 32-bit or 64-bit.
Let us know how it goes.

  • Oracle 11g :SELECT query blocked..??

    Hi Experts,
could you please explain why the below SQL query is blocked?
SELECT 1 FROM DUAL is blocking the SQL statement on GTTAPPUSR@gttccuatcriba04 ( SID=469 ) blocked SQL -> DELETE FROM GTTDB.PURCHASE_ENTRY_ID=:1
SELECT 1 FROM DUAL is blocking the SQL statement on GTTAPPUSR@gttccuatcriba04 ( SID=367 ) blocked SQL -> DELETE FROM GTTDB.PURCHASE_ENTRY_ID=:1

    Regards,
    Boris
    Edited by: user12075620 on Dec 4, 2012 8:58 AM

The SELECT statement is not blocking the UPDATE. As I said in the previous reply, the string that this query produces does not match the logic.
This query is (at least on the surface) correctly identifying that session 1 is blocking session 2. Session 1 holds some lock that session 2 is waiting on. So far, so good. Since session 2 is waiting on the lock, we can easily enough see what session 2 is running (the UPDATE statement). But since session 1 is not blocked, it is potentially off running a ton of other SQL statements (or no SQL statement at all). The query is looking to see what session 1 is running currently. It has no way of determining what session 1 ran at some point in the past to acquire the lock in the first place.
Going back to my KING example,
    At noon, session 1 runs
    UPDATE emp
       SET sal = sal * 2
WHERE ename = 'KING'Session 1 now has a lock on the KING row in the EMP table. But session 1 neither commits nor rolls back, it is still in a transaction. Session 1 might not have any more activity for a long time-- the user might go off to lunch, for example (obviously, applications should not be designed to allow users to maintain open transactions indefinitely, but not all applications are designed correctly). Or it might start running other queries. Let's say that session 1 now runs a query that is going to go for an hour
    SELECT *
FROM giant_view_with_lots_of_computationsNow, at 12:45, session 2 comes in and runs
    UPDATE emp
       SET bonus = 100
WHERE ename = 'KING'Session 2 is blocked. Session 2 is running the UPDATE statement. Session 1 still holds the lock but it is running some completely unrelated SQL statement.
If we run the query you posted, the query will correctly report that session 1 is running the query against the GIANT_VIEW_WITH_LOTS_OF_COMPUTATIONS but incorrectly imply that this SELECT query is the source of the lock. It is not. It simply happens to be the query that the session that does hold the lock happens to be executing at the current moment (why the application seems to be running a lot of queries that select a constant from dual is a separate question).

  • Oracle SQL Select query takes long time than expected.

    Hi,
I am facing a problem in SQL select query statement. There is a long time taken in select query from the Database.
    The query is as follows.
    select /*+rule */ f1.id,f1.fdn,p1.attr_name,p1.attr_value from fdnmappingtable f1,parametertable p1 where p1.id = f1.id and ((f1.object_type ='ne_sub_type.780' )) and ( (f1.id in(select id from fdnmappingtable where fdn like '0=#1#/14=#S0058-3#/17=#S0058-3#/18=#1#/780=#5#%')))order by f1.id asc
This query is taking more than 4 seconds to get the results in a system where the DB is running for more than 1 month.
The same query is taking very few milliseconds (50-100ms) in a system where the DB is freshly installed and the data in the tables are same in both the systems.
Kindly advice what is going wrong??

    'CHAMP 'CHAMP
    champ1 champ2
    With Oracle 9
    SQL> select 'champ1','champ2' from DUAL;
    'CHAMP1' 'CHAMP2'
    champ1 champ2
So Can someone tell me how to solve this problem ? Is there a parameter in oracle 9 to set?
    Thanx.

Whenever you are posting anything over internet forums like this - you should be very careful about not just posting the details which requires to solve the problem - also should be sensible about your question.
This is not at all desired when you are posting such question. It may be because - you may not well aware of the fact.
My suggestion is -> First Go through the basics Of SQL in general.
Then go for any specific product like Oracle/ SQL Server/ Sybase etc.
And, finally learn the advanced commands of that DB.
You asked it - may be you thought the difference in output in terms of lines. But, that is not your actual output. That is the graphical display part only.
    Anyway,
You can get the quite familier output by first type the following command ->
    set lin 310Regards.

  • Select Query resulting in Scientific Notation

    Hello all,
I am running a Select query through a batch file that extracts data from an Oracle database. Several of the fields that I am extracting from contain numbers that are up to 38 digits long. When I extract the data, it converts the numbers into scientific notation and it is important for me to have the entire field. Is there something I can change to my query that will pull the data in its entire form? This is what I'm running now:
    select * FROM ML.APPT where APPTDATE >= to_date('01/1/2010','mm/dd/yyyy'
I apologize in advance if this has been answered already.
    Thanks!

    >
When the extractor finishes, it returns the data into a flat file.
don't quite understand the TO_CHAR function. Does this function mean I need to say something like this: select "TO_CHAR('column name', 99999999999999999999999999999999999999" FROM ML.APPT where APPTDATE >= to_date('01/1/2010','mm/dd/yyyy')
    >
Yes- if the tool you use to extract the data (your 'extractor') is converting the numeric data to a string then it is responsible for creating the string in the proper format. If the number is an integer that can have as many digits as you have '9's in your sample format string then that is what you need to do.
Here is how sql*plus (Oracle's tool) will display the data using default settings
    SQL> select 12345678901234567890123456789012345678 no_format,
      2  to_char(12345678901234567890123456789012345678, '99999999999999999999999999
    999999999999') with_format
      3   from dual;
    NO_FORMAT WITH_FORMAT
    1.2346E+37  12345678901234567890123456789012345678
    SQL>
----- TOAD will display something similiar but the default uses more decimal digits in the scientific notation data
    NO_FORMAT,WITH_FORMAT
1.23456789012346E37, 12345678901234567890123456789012345678You can either format the numeric data in the query using TO_CHAR or the 'extractor' can do it when it converts the data to a string.

  • Select-options in SELECT query - syntax error

    Hi all,
I get the error below when I try to use the select options in a SELECT query . Please help me.
"The IN operator with "SO_AWART" is followed neither by an internal
table nor by a value list."
The code i have used(Logical database  PNP is used):

SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF BLOCK B1 WITH FRAME.
    SELECT-OPTIONS SO_AWART FOR CATSDB-AWART.
    PARAMETERS P_THRES TYPE I.
    SELECTION-SCREEN END OF BLOCK B1.
Get data from CATSDB table. Workdates within the date interval are considered.
SELECT pernr workdate awart catsquantity beguz enduz status

                      '1147', '1148', '1149', '1157', '2003' ).
when I give the values directly i do not get any syntax error, but when I use select options in the where condition I get the syntax error.
I have tried different options like using only the select-options in the where condition.
    Thanks in advance.....

    Solved.

    include z...top .
    include z...fo1.
    Thanks for all your help,
