Unexplainable duplication of records in a tables

Hi,
For some unexplainable reason my table of orders duplicated each of its records.
I do not host the database and I do not have admin privileges to the database. I just build queries to obtain reports.
I connect to/access a remote MS SQL server through:
a)  MS Access 2013 ODBC connection and
b) via SQL Server 2014 Management Studio.
The table that got duplicated populates a ColdFusion built application that runs sales transactions and others.
The table in question does not allow duplicates yet a few days ago I noticed that each of my 4200 records had been duplicated.
Unfortunately the table DOES NOT have an automated ID column (so that I could sort the records by that column), but the Order_ID is generated via code i.e. Order-1, Order-2,....Order-100,...Order-201. So I have no way to tell which records were added when.
I do have a date-stamp column but the duplicated records added have the same date stamp.
Naively yesterday I appended 4200 records (containing no duplicate info) thinking they would append at 'the end' of the table that contained 8400 duplicated record. I thought that via MS Access I could manually highlight the first 8400 duplicated records
and delete them manually leaving the 4200 newly added ones (that do not contain duplicates). Turns out the 4200 newly added records were added 'not at the end'  but everywhere.  Now my tbl_orders has 12 600 records with 3 copies of each record!
There are two tables (tbl_orders tbl_skus and tbl_payments) that point to the order_ID column of tbl_orders.
Two questions please:
1) any idea of how these records could have been duplicated? (No body except me queries the table)
2) What would be the best way to remove all my duplicates in tbl_orders leaving only one copy of each record?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Claudia

Thanks a lot for your response Jen. Sorry for not being clear.
Here are my answers to your questions:
What does this mean: "The table in question does not allow duplicates yet a few days ago I noticed that each of my 4200 records had been duplicated."
A: I only guess/suspect that the table does not allow duplicates because when I try to manually delete a record there (via MS Access ODBC connection to the table) I get the message: "Unique index contain duplicate values'  See screen shot below.
DO you have any constraint enforcements in here, or do you mean that there should not be any duplicates?
A: I have no access to see if there are any built in constraints to renforce unique valalues in the ORderID. I just know from years of operating this Database/building queries that the OrderID is unique, can not be repeated.  The ColdFusion code that
generates/builds the OrderID does not allow duplicates.
What does that mean ?
"Turns out the 4200 newly added records were added 'not at the end'  but everywhere"
A: I thought that the 4200 records I added would be listed at the end of tbl_orders but when I query or just open tbl_orders (via MS Access ODBC connection, without any sorting specified, the 4200 records that I just appended do not show/are not listed
at the bottom/end of tbl_orders, they are listed as if they had been inserted in different places not all together as a block at the end of the table.

    Do you have call to any procedure which does some DML.
    Try to figure out whther it is trying to insert into same table before you post???
    As I dont see your form, this is what I can think visually, or your Block might have a duplicate entry populated?????
    You need to investigate as this is specific to your application.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Calculating the size of each record in a table?

    Hi to all,
    I trying to create histograms based on the unique record sizes in a particular table. However , in order to do that I need to calculate the size of each record in the table (in kilobytes preferably) and to get a list of unique record sizes.
    Is there a function or easy way to calculate the size in Kbytes of a record in a table?
    Thank you in advance!
    Tony

    Hi,
    You can use the sum of the average of the vsizes of the fields in the table. For example:TEST.SQL>CREATE TABLE TEST
      2  (
      3  A VARCHAR2(50 CHAR),
      4  B NUMBER
      5  ) TABLESPACE TOOLS;
    Table created.
    TEST.SQL>INSERT INTO TEST VALUES('&1',&2);
    Enter value for 1: A
    Enter value for 2: 10
    old   1: INSERT INTO TEST VALUES('&1',&2)
    new   1: INSERT INTO TEST VALUES('A',10)
    1 row created.
    TEST.SQL>/
    Enter value for 1: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
    Enter value for 2: 100000
    old   1: INSERT INTO TEST VALUES('&1',&2)
    new   1: INSERT INTO TEST VALUES('ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ',100000)
    1 row created.
    TEST.SQL>COMMIT;
    Commit complete.
    TEST.SQL>SELECT AVG(VSIZE(A)) + AVG(vSIZE(B)) FROM TEST;
    AVG(VSIZE(A))+AVG(VSIZE(B))
                           15.5                                  The average line size - from the data in the table NOW - is 15.5 bytes.
    HTH,
    Yoann.

  • Incomplete Data on report (report does not show all records from the table)

    Hello,
    I have problem with CR XI, I'm running the same report on the same data with simple select all records from the table (no sorting, no grouping, no filters)
    Sometimes report shows me all records sometimes not. Mostly not all records on the report. When report incomplete sometimes it shows different number of records.
    I'm using CR XI runtime on Windows Server 2003
    Any help appreciated
    Thanks!

    Sorry Alexander. I missed the last line where you clearly say it is runtime.
    A few more questions:
    - Which CR SDK are you using? The Report Designer Component or the CR assemblies for .NET?
    - What is the exact version of CR you are using (from help | about)
    - What CR Service Pack are you on?
    And a troubleshooting suggestion:
    Since this works on some machines, it will be a good idea to compare all the runtime (both CR and non CR) being loaded on a working and non working machines.
    Download the modules utility from here:

  • How to get missing records from one table

    I have one table with many records in the table. Each time a record is entered the date the record was entered is also saved in the table.
    I need a query that will find all the missing records in the table.
    so if I have in my table:
    ID          Date          Location
    1           4/1/2015        bld1
    2           4/2/2015        bld1
    3           4/4/2015        bld1
    I want to run a query like
    Select Date, Location FROM [table] WHERE (Date Between '4/1/2015' and '4/4/2015') and (Location = bld1)
    WHERE Date not in
    (Select Date, Location FROM [table])
    and the results would be:
    4/3/2015   bld1
    Thank you

    Do you have a table with all possible dates in it?  You can do a left join from that to your above mentioned table where the right side of the join is null.  If you don't have a table with all possible dates you could user a numbers table.
    Below is one way to achieve what you want with a numbers table...
    DECLARE @Table table (ID Int, DateField Date, Location VarChar(4))
    DECLARE @RunDate datetime
    SET @RunDate=GETDATE()
    IF OBJECT_ID('dbo.Numbers') IS NOT NULL
    DROP TABLE NUMBERS
    SELECT TOP 10000 IDENTITY(int,1,1) AS Number
       into Numbers
        FROM sys.objects s1
        CROSS JOIN sys.objects s2
    ALTER TABLE Numbers ADD CONSTRAINT PK_Numbers PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED (Number)
    INSERT INTO @Table (ID, DateField, Location)
    VALUES ('1','20150401','bld1')
    ,('1','20150402','bld1')
    ,('1','20150404','bld1');
    WITH AllDates
    as
    SELECT DATEADD(dd,N.Number,D.StartDate) as Dates
    FROM Numbers N
    cross apply (SELECT CAST('20150101' as Date) as StartDate) as D
    select *
    from AllDates AD
    left join @Table T on AD.Dates = T.DateField
    where ad.Dates between '20150401' and '20150404'
    AND T.ID IS NULL

    So my need is the record should not be overwritten.
    it(2nd record ) should be displayed after the 1st record.
    Any one can help me and send the coding plz....

    instead of using set attribute you should use bind table method to display/update the records in table view.
    step1 ) collect all the data in a local table
    step2 ) and the bind that lacal table with your node
    search1 = wd_context->get_child_node( name = `TABLE1` ).
    search1->bind_table( lt_detail)
    here lt_detail is your local table and TABLE1 is node which is bound with table ui element.

    I am working on Oracle Apps - 11.5.8 version.
    I have some doubts in deleting the records from MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS table.
    There are few records which have junk characters and currently resides in table.
    I need to delete those records.
    But as per the approach; we should not delete any data directly from MTL table as it would cause huge impact.
    I have followed the below approach; but didnt worked out well.
    Script
    =======
    1)
    I have modified the below parameter in the MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS_INTERFACE table --> SET_PROCESS_ID =0,TRANSACTION_TYPE ='DELETE',PROCESS_FLAG=1 .
    Apart from that; everything remains the same as in MTL_SYSTEM_ITEM table.
    2) Called the "Import Items" concurrent program.
    It got successfully completed. But record still exists in MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS_INTERFACE table
    Your help is highly appreciated.

    Hi,
    You have to use the delete item utility of Oracle Inventory.
    Responsibility: Inventory Superuser or similar
    Navigation: Items -> Delete Items
    Enter a meaningful name in the Group field.
    Type - Item
    Select the organization you want to delete the item from.
    In the details section, enter the items you want to delete.
    Once all the items entered, click on the "Chcek Group" button. This will validate whether the items you have entered are eligible to delete (i.e. whether any child record such as transactions exist).
    It will submit a concurrent program and once the program finishes you will be able to see the result in the Results tab.
    Finally click on the "Delete Group" button to delete the eligible items.
    Thanks,
    PS.

  • How to delete the Table Contents before inserting records into SQL table ?

    Hello Experts,
            I have a scenario where in I have to Pick up some records from SAP RFC & insert into SQL table.
            i know how to do this scenario but the proble with this is before inserting we first have to ZAP the SQL table & insert a new records. One more twist is The Triggering is happening from SAP side with Sender RFC. If this would have been from SQL Side i could have written a Stored Procedure/ Trigger & could have called this before the SENDER JDBC communciation channel picks up the Triggering event from SQL side.
    So how to do this scenarioin XI, First deleting all the Records of SQL table & then inserting the new reocrds. without using the BPM.
    Regards,
    Umesh

    hi umesh,
    you can achieve this by writing SQL query in message mapping level..

    Hi Naren,
    First get the index number of the IT_data table and store it in one variable whose declaration like this.
    data: tabix type sy-tabix.
    while reading the internal table it_data set the tabix variable.
    tabix = sy-tabix.
    Instead of  the above use below one.
    Delete it_data-objek
    Use the Below statement it will delete  the row from the internal table.
    Delete it_data-objek index tabix
    Thanks,
    Chidanand
