Unicode question for Android development

I am embedding Arial Unicode typface to display Armenian characters on my HTC Desire HD phone. Armenian is not supported by Android OS yet (Desire HD is running Android ver.2.3). At the moment  on the emulator it displays characters properly. When i am trying to check same application on the phone it displays squares instead of characters.
I am curious if i am embedding type into my application does it make an application independent from OS supported locales ot typefaces installed on the phone?
Thanks,
Mika

I need linux to package the apk for me because I will be changeing some files like some xml files in the bin folder and then I need the new files repackaged again... the linux will be used as a server side packaging for us... get the idea?
I've been using 3.0 in the xml namespace and it created "app.air" for me on the linux! I know I must put the -target apk to the "adt" call but when I set the -target method, it throws many errors!

  • NW 7.3 vs Unicode - Question for SAP

    Hi,
Is it true that we have to convert to Unicode before we start the upgrade for NW BW 7.3?
    Please confirm.
    Regards,
    SC

If your system is MDMP yes you will have to, but if your system is non-unicode single code-page system - till date SAP just mentions that a upgrade to SCP non-unicode is possible until SAP NW 7.0 EhP1 but is not recommended. Check this sap note for further details:
73606 - Supported Languages and Code Pages
Nothing is yet out for SAP NW 7.3.

  • Just a question for mobile development ...

    Hello everyone !
    I was wondering :
I have a bunch of movieclips in my library. Each one contains it's own class and functions etc.
I put each of these movieclips on diffrent frames in my timeline.
My question was, if I am going to put these movieclips, on 2 or 3 frames on my timeline what will be the impact on speed of application (in mobile afcourse).
For example MovieClip2 will be put on frames 2,3 and 6.
It has 300 lines of code. Is the impact noticable ?

that depends on what you coded.  for example, if there no enterframe or timeline or setinterval loops, the impact should be negligible.

  • Flash vs flex for android development

I've seen some videos using Flash and others using catalyst/Builder. I'm not sure which to start learning, I'm very interested though. I'm comfortable with flash (and have new 5.5 creative) but feel like builder/catalyst will eventually be more powerful.
what are the advantages and disadvantages of them (is there somewhere I can read up on this if it's too long of an answer?)
are there any good websites or books that really dig into the actual code from beginner to advanced? I don't even know where to look, the documentation is just very overwhelming. how would you advise even beginning? I don't want to get into bad habbits. i.e. learn in Flash then find out that I am limited by the program, or learn bad coding practices.

I suggest checking out the Flash Platform page on Adobe.com for additional information.  Flash Professional, Flash Builder, and Flash Catalyst are targeted towards individual workflows for building rich Internet applications.  If you want to build data-driven or e-commerce applications and leverage the Flex framework, I suggest checking out Flash Builder.

Not sure if it will help but I posted this question for the Skype for Android team: http://community.skype.com/t5/Android-Live-Event/Port-Android-version/m-p/3988288#M75
They are holding a live Q&A session with the Skype for Android development team. There is more information here
Hopefully it brings the issues we have with Skype for Linux to someone's attention. Alternatively, they might just delete my posts and ban me.
Although it might not be helping much I thought I should mention it to everyone here since it is about "our" version.

  • GPU issues for Android

Trying out AIR for Android development using Flash CS5.5 targeting my Galaxy Tab 10.1 running Android 3.1. Performance was not great do I tried out GPU mode. Performance went WAY up, but the text fields are all distorted and any object with a filter is also strangely pixelated with no filters. I can figure out a way aroudn the filters issue, but any idea why text would be messed up? I am using embedded fonts if that makes any difference.

I wonder if StageText would help wit this.

  • Air for Android app just a black blank screen on emulator.

    Greetings,
I'm starting android app development using air for android and I'm encountering the same problem as in this discussion, http://forums.adobe.com/message/4343423.
Followed all the suggested solutions on the above link and nothing is working for me.
Before I started air for android development, I upgraded my air sdk from 2.6 to 3.2, I overlayed the AIR 3.2 SDK in flash following the instructions on this link http://www.flashdeveloper.co/post/20583114199/air32-in-flash-cs-55.
Published my first air for android test app (a simple test app to test swipe gestures) and installed the .apk on the emulator using the command line. When I launched the app on the emulator, it says Adobe AIR runtime is required so I installed the AIR runtime on the emulator using this tutorial http://renaun.com/blog/2010/12/finding-the-air-for-android-emulator-runtime/.
When I thought everything will now work as expected then this problem came up. What do you think is the problem here?
    I'm using flash pro cs5.5 on windows 7 64-bit.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,
    Randy

    Hi guys, any ideas?

  • AIR for Android setup?

I need to bring an AIR-for-iOS app that I've developed to Android. I know that there are some older tutorials floating around the web on setting up Flash (and FlashDevelop) for Android development but can anyone tell me about any recent ones?  I believe, for instance, that it's no longer necessary to pre-install the AIR runtime on an Android device, but this doesn't seem well documented.
I want to speed up my setup time and avoidance of any basic problematic differences between iOS and Android. Especially in regard to such things as StageVideo and StageText. Also in regard to designing for the multitude of Android screen shapes.
    thanks for any advice,
    Craig

Can you please give directions where can i clear that cash.
Anyway i don`t think its the case, because this is first time i hooked phone to internet, and first time i launched Android app store.
    Edit:
I went to https://market.android.com and there is Adobe air app. But when i try to download it says that my device doesn't support it (Samsung Galaxy GT-I5500) By default it comes with android 2.1 and doesn't support Adobe air, but i upgraded firmware to 2.2.
Maybe that is the reason it doesn't show me Adobe AIR in app store - based on my phone, not my Android version ?

  • Advice on using Flash in the future for Android VS. Air VS. Web Development

First, I am not trolling and I see that other similar questions have been asked recently, though I am looking for specific info to meet the needs of our program (that is why I am posting this now).
We've been teaching Flash at a community college for many years. After Adobe stopped development of the Flash Player for browsers, I'm left wondering what the future of Flash in the web will be? Data shows that a majority of web browsing will take place from mobile devices over the next several years, and if you are not going to be able to view Flash web content in a browser from a mobile device, I am concerned about whether it makes sense to continue teaching Flash to students for web design/development. I know Flash can also be used for developing applications, Air, etc., and we do some of that currently, I'm just wondering how Adobe can expect developers to commit to the platform for web development without supporting mobile web browsers. Am I missing something? Do developers see this differently? I appreciate any insight from Flash developers or Adobe employees. FYI - I just did a similar analysis with our video editing program and asked similar questions in an Apple Final Cut Pro forum and we are moving away from Apple's Final Cut Pro after they changed direction with their latest release and we are now going to start teaching Adobe Premiere. Should we focus teaching Flash for Android and Air development and back off from using it for web development?
    Thanks in advance.

I'd like an answer for this one too.  Thank you, "Media Kat" for posting the question.  I am a prototyper with a background in art and design, who has worked exclusively with Flash for nearly 13 years.  I'm currently working with AIR for Android, but my superiors and associates think AIR is going to die (along with the rest of Flash) and don't understand that simply "switching to HTML5" is not a very palatable answer.  It would be helpful to hear from someone "in the know" about the future of Flash.
    Thanks.
P.S.  If someone from Adobe answers this, please don't BS me like they did at the last forum I attended at Adobe headquarters in San Jose.  We asked specifically if Flash and/oir Flex were dying and were assured that they had a long future... Three weeks before the announcement to kill it!  :-(

  • Why are web developer tools not available on Firefox for Android?

I do some freelance web design. I just replaced my laptop with a tablet last year (Samsung Galaxy 10.5 S). I want to do web development on it - I work from a terminal doing Ruby on Rails and web development all the time. It would be awesome to have the F12 developer tools handy in Firefox for Android, but sadly I've waited for a while and there is no indication they will ever appear.
Do NOT suggest using a remote debugger - I'm not testing the layout of pages on my tablet, I want to be able to profile, view source (without an add-on) and such. I have seen this exact question marked closed by suggesting remote debugging, and I fail to see how telling me to use my tablet next to a laptop or desktop is a solution. Telling me to carry a second device means I don't need the tablet at all, when my intention is to ONLY use the tablet.
My tablet has a huge screen resolution and a powerful processor - more powerful than some laptops? Why is Firefox for Android neutered? I would understand disabling it by default to help those with less powerful devices, but why remove something that would add a competitive edge to your product, and is already integrated in desktop Firefox and has been for years? I prefer Firefox, but if Chrome adds web developer tools for Android first, I'll switch to Chrome.
There are people today using a tablet as their sole computing device. Please do not relegate us to a second-class Firefox experience!
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • Cross-Platform Development for Android and Windows PC

    Hi,
Im trying to build a native Android app and port it over to windows.  Is there a way to build the Android App to minimize the recoding in Windows?
Has anyone used CodeNameOne or Xamarin and, if so, what was your experience? Are there better alternatives or approaches?
In case it makes a difference, is it better to build an app in Android and port to Windows (desktop) or build in Windows and port into Android?
    Thanks,
    Soroush

    Hello,
    Thank you for your post.
I am afraid that the issue is out of support range of VS General Question forum which mainly discusses
the usage of Visual Studio IDE such as WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System
    and Visual Studio Editor.
As far as I know, Visual Studio does not support Android development. I suggest you should consulting your issue on Android forums for better support.
For CodeNameOne and Xamarin, they are third-party tools, please consult on the forums/community provided by their authors.

  • How to exctract/backup a client certificate from Firefox for Android similar to question #1000240 but for the latest Firefox Beta for Android?

As in #1000240 and in #1032181, I've installed a StartSSL login certificate in my Firefox for Android and having a problem with extracting/backuping it to use with another device/browser.
I'm using the latest Firefox Beta for Android (35.0) at present; the Android version is 4.1.2, my phone model is Sony LT26i (Xperia S), so neither of the aforementioned questions asked at the Mozilla Support website do not contain any solution to the given problem.
Any chance to recover the certificate?
    P. S. I haven't rooted my device; if getting a root is the only possible way to recover the certificate, I may consider doing so.

You can try https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/android/addon/copy-profile/ If that does not retrieve the file then see below.
If you know the name and path of the file you can get it using run-as function of adb. See http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18471780/android-adb-retrieve-database-using-run-as
If you end up down here you'll need root to be able to navigate the file system. I don't know the file name, though it is likely in your profile folder which can be determined by visiting about:cache in the Firefox address bar. It will be similar to /data/data/org.mozilla.firefox_beta/files/mozilla/$RANDOM.default/

We are going to use acrobat on some Android devices connected only to corporate network (no Internet connection) and each device is going to be used by many users.
I have downloaded the APK file from Adobe, and published this as test to the devices using Mobile Device Management. We contacted Adobe support if this was OK license vice, but was asked to post the question here as they did not support the mobile versions...

What? Acrobat for Android, I don't think so.
There is an Adobe Reader for mobile devices only you can download for free.
