Uninstall corrupt Adobe reader 9

When I open "all programs" in my Win XP I see Adobe reader 9 listed. However, when I click on it I get an error message that the path is not valid. I would like to uninstall and reinstall the reader or else another reader that will open pdf files for me. When I attempt to uninstall it I also get a similar error message regarding an unvalid path.  Can some one help me find a utility some place that would clean my system and install a working pdf reader for me? I dont use it often but when I need it I would like to have a viable reader. Thank you.
Macamatoadobe
P.S. My laptop has Win XP and Adobe reader 8. It works just fine. I have no idea how I acquired Adobe reader 9. on the desktop. If I knew how it got there I would make sure it doesnt happen again.

Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove the corrupted Reader, then install afresh.

  • How to uninstall manually Adobe Reader XI in a corrupted install and not being able to uninstall from control panel

It seems that Adobe Reader X1(11.0.0.9) installed and the installation was corrupted.  It now opens up the Windows help center automatically.  Booting the computer in safe mode and trying to unistall in the control panel,  I get the Windows Installer Servicee could not be accessed.  I am able to uninstall other programs with no problem.
    can someone help?

One way is to download again and install, then uninstall. That sometimes resolves the issue. To clear the registry of Acrobat and Reader (this is the Acrobat forum by the way, Reader is another forum), use http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html.

  • Uninstall of Adobe Reader 9.5.5 to install Adobe 11

Odd problem with Adobe Reader on Windows XP SP3... I hope. I had 9.5.5 installed after a reinstall of XP, and want to upgrade to Adobe 11. When I try to uninstll from Add/Remove in my Control Panel, the process fails saying 9.5.5 is installed on Drive G. I don't have a G drive so the Fatal Error shows.  I've tried searching for the files and found them but it's impossible to delete or uninstall as the process says it's on Drive G.
What do I have to do to uninstall Adobe 9?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the relpy Pat but it didn't work. I still get the msg "Error 1327.Invalid Drive: G:\" when I tried to install 11. Cleaner said it worked but seems it didn't. I'll try again but I don't think it will change anything.
I can't understand this as I have no G drive on my computer. Only C:, D and E: for my CD/DVD drives, and F: for a removable drive.
    Thanks

  • Can't open PDFs/uninstall program Adobe Reader (11.0.08) MUI

I can't open PDFs, can't uninstall program, I have Adobe Reader (11.0.08) MUI (I don't know what MUI is...), help! I have tried numerous times to uninstall and change the program. Every time I try to do this, a window comes up saying that files are open (Adobe Reader) and to either retry or close. I can do neither, so I'm unable to uninstall the program. I've never had anything like this happen to me. I scanned my computer for viruses, malware, etc. and nothing came up. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just try to download the software from the Adobe site and see what happens?
    Thanks, Tracy

Assuming you are in Windows (which you haven't said), you can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.
And I think it is Multilanguage User Interface...

  • Is a removal program available to clean a corrupted Adobe Reader v9 out of my computer?

I can't get rid of it to do a fresh installation of Adobe Reader v9.  It somehow became corrupted when I disabled some Raid 1 and Raid 0 drives on my computer to free up some processing power.  I began having problems with Reader v9 and it won't let me do a fresh installation of the program.

  • How to uninstall multiple Adobe Reader Install

    Dear Forum,
Last night I attempted to install Photoshop Elements 6 for OS X and ran into problems. I have the Photoshop installed and registered. But it also had the Adobe Reader as a choice. So,I thought that the reader is probably required to read the users guide. So, I had problems downloading it, and ended up with multiple downloads which I would like to uninstall. I have one icon for the Adobe Reader Installer, and 3 other reader icons showing in applications. How do I uninstall these extra duplicates. I was up all night with this problem. I have an iMac which is 6 months old, 3 G RAM. I use Firefox 3 most of the time. I have other programs which I would like to load, so I don't want to use up memory if I don't have to. Also, it shows a circle with a slash through it sometimes which says it is not can't be used in this architecture. Help!
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Annie

A program doesn't use any memory at all unless you actually start it,
so don't be concerned about using memory.

  • Help with uninstalling "old" Adobe Reader

Since I trust anything Adobe 100%, I did not hesitate to follow a link (contained in "Adobe for Andoid" email from you to me) to install Adobe Reader on my new NOOK HD+ 32.  IT IS A "BAD" LINK, details were forwarded to Adobe by Chrome Support 7-2-13.  What I have been told from Barnes and Noble, Chrome, Google and Adobe "HELP" Professionals  is to uninstall the download.
You'd think even a 56 year old tech-novice could handle this, right?!?  I Can't because the "Unfortunately System UI message freezes everything up until I respond "okay".... Between my "okay" and typing the "uninstall "  address to my Search bar, the "UI' message has taken over my screen and has frozen every  click I know how to make.  After doing this 5+times, all of the icons begin to shake and then the page completely turns itself off.
I am hoping someone is able to advise me how to "uninstall" from somehere other than my Nook.
    Thank you very much,
    Mizrallen623

It's really hard to say what's going on without knowing more about the system. It's possible that the program is generating an FDF (Forms Data Format) file and launches it, causing the PDF to load and populate with the data in the FDF. Folks have reported that recent changes to Reader have broken this type of thing. So you may need to go back to an even earlier version, such as 9.2 or 9.3, or somehow contact the developers of the application for help.
Is this something that happens in a web browser?

  • Uninstall of Adobe Reader XI to go back to Adobe 9

I recentely installed Adober Reader XI and discovered that my print functionality is limited. I would like to uninstall Adobe XI which should leave me back with Adobe Reader 9 which is still on my computer. Can anyone walk me through the process and where I might find the uninstall?  Thanks in advance for the help!

Sure - I installed Adobe XI on my computer and although I can print when I right click and hit print; I can no longer print from the Menu bar up top. Prior to installing Adobe XI I could print from the Menu bar.  When I try printing PDF's from the menu bar the pdf shows a blank screen.  When I do it by right clicking I can see the PDF and print.  I believe it may have something to do with the Adobe install and so I was simply trying to go back to the version I had before I started experiencing the problem. Feel free to offer any other suggestions you might have.... Thanks for he help!

I recently downloaded Adobe 8.1.1 and have not been able to open pdf files on other browsers. • Adobe reader won't 'uninstall'

I can't print pdfs or download pdfs on the web since downloading adobe reader 9.  The previous version (reader 8) failed to uninstall and I am unable to use 'remove programme' to remove either version of reader.   The error message reads,  patch cannot be found.
Can anyone offer a solution?  I believe I need to uninstall all the adobe files and reinstall afresh but can't do it with add/remove programmes.

    Thank you Claudio,
Your suggestion worked perfectly. I am very grateful.

You may want to try running this fix from Microsoft and uninstall all traces of any versions of Reader: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall If you want to reinstall Reader, download its full installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.Replies to this message go to everyone subscribed to this thread, not directly to the person who posted the message. • Problems with uninstalling and updating Adobe Reader 9.x

I have an issue with updating Adobe Reader 9.4.5. I get regularly automatic update routines and success reports after I ran them. However, when I open Adobe Reader it still shows up as version 9.4.5. So I tried to uninstall Adobe Reader completely. First of all, in the software panel two Adobe Reader versions show up: 9.4.5 & 9.3.5. Of those two, I could only uninstall the Adobe Reader 9.4.5. The 9.3.5 version doesn't sucessfully enter into an uninstall routine. As my computer expertise is limited, I don't know if there are other ways to remove that program successfully. Another odd thing is that when I open Adobe Reader, the version displayed is 9.4.5 although that was the one which seems to have uninstalled correctly. As you see, it's all a bit of a mess and I would appreciate your help with addressing this issues. Many thanks in advance.

You may want to try the following.
Remove  all traces of Reader (not only the program) from your system using  the  Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. This is no longer supported by  Microsoft because it can produce problems with Win 7, but you can still download it from from places like
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Then, download the Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    and perform a clean install.
