Union reporting involving null fields.

Hello ALL;
I'm new to OBIEE and the following is a query on 10g.
I use the union reporting using dummy/null fields as the Subject areas are built in a way that they don't include all fields one report would need at my work place.
(Let me know if I could work otherwise)
Suppose I have a, b fields from S1 and c from S2, I implement the following approach:
S1 a b 0
S2 a 0 c
What I expect to see is:
Result a b c
What I see is:
Result a b 0
a 0 c
I see two records with one ID(feild a).
Could anyone help me on this, please?
Thanks,
-RB

Goto Table View in the answers, change result column formula to avg(saw_1 by saw_0).

    in WebI report, is that possible to show ZERO in NULL fields? crystal report has no issue, but i could not find a way to set ZERO to NULL field
    can you tell?

    Bram,
    This formula you used above is corrcet but is returning you a character '0' and when a descending sort is applied character values will be at the top.
    So , apply the formula 'ToNumber' on the value returned form the above formula :-
    ToNumber(above formula)
    And then it will change 0 to number and give you the exact sort order.

  • UNION changes type of field

    Statement 1:
    SELECT E0380.CardValue
    FROM (SELECT E0465.CardValue FROM E0465 UNION ALL
    SELECT null AS CardValue FROM E0465) E0380
    Statement 2:
    SELECT E0465.CardValue FROM E0465
    I use OleDbCommand to execute these 2 statements. For statement 1 I use GetDecimal method to get value.
    For statement 2 I use GetDouble to get value. The type of field CardValue is FLOAT. Why the type in these 2
    statements are different? How to solve this problem?
    My Oracle is 10g and connection string is "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=EMS;Password=abc;User ID=S000"
    Thanks a lot

    I believe the behavior you're describing is apparent outside of OLEDB, so the database sql forum may be better equipped to assist.
    I tested the following, so we could easily see the resulting datatype from the union:
    SQL> create table floattab(col1 float);
    Table created.
    SQL> SELECT E0380.col1
      2  FROM (SELECT floattab.col1 FROM floattab UNION ALL
      3  SELECT null AS CardValue FROM dual) E0380;
          COL1
    SQL> create table tt as SELECT E0380.col1
      2  FROM (SELECT floattab.col1 FROM floattab UNION ALL
      3  SELECT null AS CardValue FROM dual) E0380;
    Table created.
    SQL> desc tt;
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    COL1                                               NUMBER
    SQL> desc floattab;
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    COL1                                               FLOAT(126)
    SQL>If I read the docs correctly, it looks like this is probably expected, but the database folks may be able to comment better since the behavior does not seem related to OLEDB.

  • How can I suppress a sub report if a field contains the charcaters N/A

    I have created a report (using Crystal Reports 10) containing several sub reports.  I have used the Selection Expert and checked the Suppress Blank Section check box for all the sub reports.  This will hide the sub report if the fields have null values.  I would like to be able to suppress the sub report if any fields contain the characters N/A.  Is there a formula or a method I can use that will suppress a sub report if the only field value is N/A?

    You can have a summary field for counting if there're any 'N/A'. If there are any, you can then suppress the corr. section. Further in the section in which the subreport is placed, within the main one, you can tick 'Suppress blank section' in the section expert.

  • Report using Parameter Field

    Hi,
    I have designed one report using Parameter Field which is Cost Code (string).
    When I run my report, I ask to enter cost code. When I enter cost code 30, I get report for all transaction of cost code 30 and 300.
    How could I avoid this problem.
    Thanks
    Mithani

    Try with this
    {Project_cost.EXPENSES_Code} IN {?Cost Code}
    and also
    Check the query formed after giving the input parameter. Goto Database --> Show Sql Query.

  • ALV report using the field catalog

    which is the quickest way to generate an ALV report using the field catalog merge.  without needing to build the field catalog manually .
    is it easier to create a structure and passe it in the field catalog merge .  if yes can i have an example plzzzz

    hI
    Supports the creation of the field catalog for the ALV function modules
    based either on a structure or table defined in the ABAP Data
    Dictionary, or a program-internal table.
    The program-internal table must either be in a TOP Include or its
    Include must be specified explicitly in the interface.
    The variant based on a program-internal table should only be used for
    rapid prototyping since the following restrictions apply:
    o Performance is affected since the code of the table definition must
    always be read and interpreted at runtime.
    o Dictionary references are only considered if the keywords LIKE or
    INCLUDE STRUCTURE (not TYPE) are used.
    If the field catalog contains more than 90 fields, the first 90 fields
    are output in the list by default whereas the remaining fields are only
    available in the field selection.
    If the field catalog is passed with values, they are merged with the
    'automatically' found information.
    Below is an example ABAP program which will populate a simple internal table(it_ekpo) with data and
    display it using the basic ALV grid functionality(including column total). The example details the main
    sections of coding required to implement the ALV grid functionality:
                             Data declaration

  • Not printing line in report if the field is empty

    How can I avoid printing a blank line in my report if the field is blank. eg in an address you do not want blank lines.

    You need to configure the elasticty of the field and the repeating frame.
    Set both to variable and the field should "collapse" if it is blank and the repeating frame will do so as well

  • Union report in obiee 11g problem

    HI,
        I build union report in obiee 11g.In that report i have one column i.e Financial month.I have excluded Financial month column in table view.
        Now my requirement is I have to show results based Financial month at dashboard.For example if i select particular month in dashboard prompt,that month data has to reflect on dashboard.
        For getting results I created one dashboard prompt i.e Financial month and kept 'is prompted' at report level.But am not getting results means if i select any value from Financial month prompt then the report on         dashboard will not reflect.Please help me how to get data based on Financial month.
    Regards,
    Kumar.

    Hi,
    you said about writing query in DB.......whether U meant of trying checking the query in toad..or something else..........
    Since im giving only one join from dim to fact in the physical diagram........
    But more than one join exist between those dim and fact, but im giving only one join mainly the primary key column of the dimension table to the fact table....Whether i need to give all the joins that exist(even if it has 2 or 3 joins between those fact and dim) tables....
    If i give count distinct means it is giving count for every nation as 1....like i mentioned below
    NATIONALITY<----------------------------------------------------->NATION COUNT
    INDIA---------------------------------------------------------------------1
    AUS------------------------------------------------------------------------1
    CAN------------------------------------------------------------------------1
    Since you said to check about depts of the particular column....i couldn't able to understand about "depts" that you meant????
    Whether i made any logical mistake...........
    thanks,
    Harry...

  • Decode function involving 2 fields (urgent)

    Hi .. I am trying to use the decode function involving 2 fields.
    The query runs but does not produce the correct results. If
    anyone knows, please reply .. Usually decode function involves
    one column only but I have more
    than one. The situation is : If ins_code = 2 or special_code =
    MMI, put a 'Y', otherwise, it's a 'N'. Does anyone know how to
    put this in a decode statement? Thanks

    Thanks, Suresh ... but I have to put this condition using the
    decode statement because that's how the rest of the program is
    written. It's part of the script that I have to change. The
    current statement is this: decode(ins_code, '2', 'Y', 'N'). I
    have to change it to ins_code =2 or special_feature = MMI.
    Please reply ... thanks a lot....

  • How to setup the drill down on union report

    Hi,
    I'm setting the union report.
    I want to set the drill down to another report.
    But I can't setup it.
    Would you please tell me how to setup.
    Thank you.

    Hi Hemlatha
    In Crystal Reports, to prevent the ability to drill down into a subreport when published on the Web, add a text object that is filled with blank spaces, created by pressing the 'Space Bar' and 'Enter' for line returns, to eclipse the subreport.
    This workaround is applicable only to subreports that does not grow in size. For example, subreports that display only a chart or graph.
    Steps to Add a Text Object over a Subreport
    1. In the Crystal Reports Designer of the main report, insert a text object over the subreport.
    2. Resize the text object to be the same size or a little larger than the subreport object on the main report.
    3. Fill the text object with blank spaces created by pressing the 'Space Bar' and 'Enter'. This is necessary because resizing a text object without
    the blank spaces will not maintain its size when it has been published on the Web.
    ====================
    NOTE:
    You can format the text object with a hyperlink to another report, another file or a URL.
    ====================
    Now, when the Crystal report is previewed on the Web, the text object that fully eclipses the subreport will prevent the ability to drill down into it.

  • How can L identify what are the not null fields of a table in a stored procedure ?

    How can L identify what are the not null fields of a table in a stored procedure ?

    You could query the data dictionary:
    SELECT column_name
    FROM all_tab_columns
    WHERE owner = '...'
    AND table_name = '...'
    AND nullable = 'N'
