Universe and Flat File

Hello,
I would like to get some information about the flat files connection in BO 4.0.
Is it better and easier than in BO 3.1 ?
Is it possible to create an Universe from a CSV/xls file directly ?
I know that it is possible to use Explorer from a Excel file saved on the BO Server.
Is it possible to create a WEBI Query from this Excel file ?

Hello All,
I have a question, is it possible to have SQL Server as Source and Flat File as Target without using any intermediate Oracle table(s).
like
SQL Server --> ETL Operators --> Flat file?
as i m getting errors in data type conversions here. but if i replace flat file with Oracle table it works fine. (though i have used some conversion functions for data types as well in Flat file loading but it is giving me errors)

Yes this should be fine. Are you using the gateway to access SQLServer or code template mappings? You need to track which columns are throwing the data type conversion errors.

Generic and Flat file extraction

Generic extraction is an extraction where you create a Generic DS and based upon this you would be extracting the data from R/3, which means you would have an source system to extract the generic data from the generic data source.
Flact file extraction is an extraction where you need not have to connect to source
system, in this case you source system would be PC, here you would be designing an infosource based up on the fields/columns of your flat file and mapping the corresponding the infoojects to it.. and update rules..
and you would be loading/extracting the data from the file as a source..
These two things are different in nature and usage..

IDOC to Flat file and Flat file to IDOC

Hello Experts,
I have the following requirement in my current project:
Third Party Sender sends the data in the in the below XML format via HTTP:

In the above XML, the Tag <DataStream> is a string which contains the IDOC flat file.
Now, the scenario is HTTP to IDOC, where the sender sends the above XML payload and PI needs to convert <DataStream> to IDOC XML and pass it on to the receiver R/3.
But the challange i am facing is converting this <DataStream> tag which contains the IDOC flat file to IDOC XML using a Mapping program.Since both adapters are running on ABAP stack i can not go for Adapter Modules available(We are using PI 7.10).
Looking for some guidance on the same.

There are 2 options for you
In either case, you might need a java mapping to convert the DataStream into String. Use a file adpater to write this string to IDOC-File.
1) Option1: Write the content of DataStream into IDOC-Flatfile.(java mapping) Pick it from PI to convert IDOC-flat file inot IDOC-XML (using std features of PI) & send it to ECC.
2) Option2: Write the Content of DataStream to IDOC-Flatfile (accessible to ECC system). Configure WE21 to pick the file from a file port.
If the datastream was IDOC-XML, then it would have been simpler, it will be a direct communcation from PI to ECC (using java mapping & IDOC adapter).

Best way to load data in table from combination of Table and flat file?

Hi All,
Could you please share your thoughts on best way of achieving this objective -
Flat File - 15 Million records (Field A,B,C)
Table A - 15 Million records ( Field A,D)
Objective -
Load Field A,B,C,D in Table B from Flat file and Table A.
Data can be loaded from flat file in Table B then updated from Table A but this update operation is taking lot of time. (Intermediate Commit, Bulk operations already tried)

With the Partitioning, OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options
Tables are analyzed.
Indexes are their.
Update statement using the index.
Data is close to 200 MB.
I am interested in knowing if there are alternate ways of doing this, other than conventional way of loading data then updating it.

It's not exactly clear what you mean. Could you perhaps paste the MFL you are using, the current as-is XML and the XML structure you want it to be in and possibly also the source file contents with non-real data.
Other than correcting the MFL you can also use an xquery function to transform the current XML you have into the XML you want, removing any unwanted records or elements.

Datatypes and flat files

Ola,
Can anybody explain in short terms what kind of logic is used in OWB (or Oracle) when a flat file is imported?
Does Oracle perform a kind of LEN function to determine what length is necessary for the columns?
Why is a date field in the flat file represented as a varchar2?
If short terms is not possible please add links to extra information?

Thanks for your quick reply. How would I check to see if the ODI server / agent has access to the system drive? Basically, what question do I ask? Would the ODI server itself be given access to the system drive? Would the ODI Agent be given access? If it's the ODI Agent, is it treated as a 'user' for granting access? Would I ask if SCH_AGENT has access to the system drive? I do not have the option of installing ODI and the Agent anywhere else so I need to handle this with an access solution is possible.

PROCESS CHAIN and flat file

I tried to load the flat file to ODS in the process chain.
I got this error:
An upload from the client workstation in the background is not possible
,can anybody tell me how to solve this error.What are the proper settings for loading a flat file in process chains.

Hi,
in the process chain at the background, u cannot load the data using the option Client Workstation instead you would need to select the option Application Server and then save it , go to the schedule tab of the IP scheduler and then click on the start button and then go to monitor screen, u willt hen see the records being extracted.
1. change the option to Application Server
2. Save
3. under schedule tab in Infopackage scheduler , select "Start to load data immediately" and then click on Start button.
4. after u see "Data was requested" at the status bar of the Infopackage scheduler then you click on Monitor icon and see the records being extracted.
Do let me know if it was successfull or not.

FIDCC1 Validations / Substitutions and flat files?

I am investigating the potential for two different types of functionality from using the FIDCC1 IDOC for transferring financial postings between two separate SAP FICO systems. My understanding at this point in time is that this IDOC won't perform any of custom or standard substitutions or validations of the receiving system. Is this correct? can anyone confirm? Also, I understand that some IDOC will generate a flat file on the receiving system in addition to the posting of data there. Will FIDCC1 do this as well?
My apologies if this information is readily available elsewhere. I need to obtain these answer quickly and find that I can usually get rapid answers from the SAP Development Community.

Ok. That one is nice, especially in terms of defining header and trailer records. I also found this one http://sourceforge.net/projects/flatworm/ which allows for multi-line flat-files, which is also nice.
The problem is both only deal with parsing. Granted, writing a serializer even via reflection would not be all that tough. But a few Dukes for you!

Merge dimensions from universe and Excel file to display a value from Excel

I have a report with two sections similar to the following: customer, and a concatenation of customer-equipment. The customer and equipment are displayed as a header on each page, not as part of a table. Each page of the report has data for a single customer-equipment combination, but each customer can have several pages if that customer has several equipments. The data for customers and equipments comes from a universe, but certain combinations of customer-equipment need to display a label that is found in an Excel spreadsheet that also contains customer and equipment information. The label will be displayed in a free-standing cell, not in a table.
I created a concatenation of customer-equipment in the universe and in the spreadsheet to merge those dimensions. How can I retrieve the appropriate label from the spreadsheet? I want to have a free-standing cell that displays something to this effect: SELECT label FROM spreadsheet WHERE customer_equipment_combination_on_this_page = customer_equipment_combination_in_the_spreadsheet.

Thanks for the tip. I'm using BOXI 3.1. The spreadsheet looks like this:
Where the Concat column contains the formula "=UPPER(TRIM(A3)&TRIM(B3)&TRIM(C3))". The report looks like this:
The vertical table contains data from the universe. The universe also contains Customer, Equipment1, and Equipment2. And the report is sectioned, so each Customer/Equipment1/Equipment2 combination should be on its own page.
I imported the Excel data into Access and created a new universe to connect to that Access database, and then the labels display correctly. But for some reason it won't work if it is merging with an Excel document instead of a universe. The "Cust1 (Equip1/Equip5)" line used to be a free-standing cell on which the report was sectioned, but I replaced it with moved it a three row table for the customer, L1, and L2.

BPM and Flat File

Hi to all.
I'm a new entry in Netweaver BPM technology.
I need to send via BPM a file from a sender system to a target one.
The file has to be delivered as-is without mapping.
In ESR I prepared all service interfaces, outbound, inbound and abstract and in configuration integration builder I customized the receiver determination and interface determination using the correct service interfaces.
In interface determination vs the target I specified just the inbound service interface, according with the SEND step in BPM and not an operation mapping that doesn't exist.
The problem is that the Process Engine stops the queue assigned to the process with the error "Permanent error in BPE inbound processing".
I don't know if these info are enough to understand the problem or not.
I will be grateful to anyone help me to address the problem and the solution.

How to Merge Flat file data and DSO Data

I have one DSO A which has more than 20 objects (5 of them are keys), which include 0comp_code,0gl_account,. I have a Flat file which has the following fields ,COMPANY CODE, GLACCOUNT and SUPERVISOR ,EXECUTIVE,ANALYST. My requirement is to get a DSO with consolidated data from DSO A and Flat File data. That means for exapme, In my DSO A , I have US01 COMPANY CODE so when I merge the data in DSO C It should diplay the data for the supervisor exe and analyst for DSO A as well
When I added with 2 DSOs A (ECC ) and B (Flat file)..C is getting the data from B and its appending the data for Flat file at the end...So I want to merge both...DSO A should match up with DSO B flat file company code and gl account and should display the remaining fields
I think its clear..Can any one let me know the solution ASAP...
Note: We are on BI7.0 not 3.5...

Multiple flat files with Comma delimiter and Pipe Delimiter in the sub folders.

I have a directory C:\doc\Outcomes\Health --(This is the main path).
In the path above i have multiple subfolders like
A
B
C
D
Folder A & B have 20 flat files each which are comma separated and pipe delimiter files.
Folder C&D have 20 excel files each.
1) So, In SSIS while looping through the subfolders how do i limit to loop only excel files one time and flat files one time.
2) In folder A&B, how do i loop only Pipe delimiter files (neglecting comma saperated files). I want to loop only pipe delimiter files while using for each loop container.

Both are txt files, but the data inside the files is saperated by ',' and '|'. ( comma and pipe)

How to delete data from flat file ?

I deleted a record from a tables and I want to delete it from data file.
Can I do it ?

What do you mean by deleting it from datafile ?, Is it flat file or something else you want to ask? I believe you have records in flat files and you want to delete them as soon as you load them into oracle table.Oracle dosent offer such facility, however you can syncronise your tables and flat file contents by using merge statements and update it in a fashion, so that only records which reflects in flat files syncronises with table in oracle database .
