Universe Shared

Recently Ive just solved a problem whose solution was a little bit difficult to find. I wanted two Java frames pointing to the same virtual universe. Ive solved it by manually creating two (or more) Viewing Superstructure branches and attachem to the same Locale object belonging to just one VirtualUniverse instance, then I put two (or more) different Canvas3D objects in the frames that I wanted at the begining and .... DONE!!!
But my problem goes beyond than sharing the same VirtualUniverse in the same machine. Could you guess what is it???
Exactly!!! Would not be even more interesting be able to share that same universe between (or among) different computers by using a network connection???
I tried by sending the Canvas3D object through the net (java.io.Serialization) and receive it at the other side in order to be used in a frame located "ailleurs", but the operation was not succesful.
... so, what to do?, could be better send the universe or some Viewing superstructures (writeObject(), readObject())??, How to make two or more computers render the same virtual universe at real time?, emulating it and better send and receive commands as works in TV?, so many answers?, and if so, what would be the best one?
I realize the questions arent easy to be answered, but equally I know somebodys out there who got the divin answer, or at least the site where I probably will find information about this advanced viewing construction topic.
Your comments and suggestions will be REALLY welcome!!! Thanks!!!
Ahhh, and.. no,.. Im not French...
.. Greetings Java Guys!!!

Hi,
You could define a filter object in the universe for this purpose using the @prompt function.
example... your derived tables T1.Date, T2.OtherDate, T3.Date
Hence the syntax of the filter would be somehting like this...
@prompt('Start Date','D',T1.Date....) AND @prompt('Start Date','D',T2.OtherDate....) AND @prompt('Start Date','D',T3.Date....)
Note that the prompt text 'Start Date' is exactly the same for all the @prompts... this will result in 1 prompt occuring called 'Start Date'.
Use this for your main report. You can then use another prompt or filter for the sub reports and join them on as you would join main and sub reports (assuming you are using crystal reports)
If you are using Webi or Deski the same principal can be applied by adding this to the report filters in the query. Using the same distinct prompt text for multiple prompts will result in 1 prompt to be completed.
Hope this helps.

  • Convert a static library (.a file) to a universal shared lib (.dylib)

I'm working on an extension to a ruby based application. I'm using the ruby/dl extension capability for calling out to a dynamic library.
I'm accessing a wrapped version of the Newton Physics SDK which ships with a universal static library (newton32.a).
I've worked out a process for using LIPO to thin the .a down to the intel only version of the lib and then dump all the .o files. I then use g++ to relink into a dynamic library and I can access it successfully using ruby/dl.
however, I'd like to create a universal shared lib. Anybody got the recipe for doing this???

Probably not legally. You might want to check with your library to see what you can do with them, for example, can you burn them to an audio CD? The whole purpose of the DRM is to prevent you from converting or copying the files in ways the rights holder hasn't authorized. Discussions about how to circumvent DRM are not allowed according to the terms of use of these forums. Sorry.

  • Sharing External USB & Firewire Hard Drives?

I have a MacBook Pro and a Mac Mini. The Mac Mini has an external firewire and external USB drive attached. I can log into my Mac Mini from my Macbook Pro using file sharing. The problem is I can not connect to the exrternal drives. They are not showing up as options to mount. I could swear I was able to do this before with my old G5. How can I set this up so when I connect to the mac mini I can access the external drives?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me with this problem!

    Well, to be more specific:
Sharepoints allows simple management of the network sharing of folders.
Mac uses Samba as a 'universal' sharing protocol. (Samba, or SMB, is a wel-estabished protocol).
Manual management of the Samba configuration file is possible, but can be tricky. It's a file hidden from easy accessibility within the /private directory structure.
Sharepoints simply allows easy, graphical interface to that file. Sharing of certain folders (and in this case...a USB or Firewire drive), user-access permissions, and other cool stuff...is all handled in a very simple window.
    (however, you don't NEED it)
You can download it to your existing machine, and take a look, practice.
It will much clearer once you have a 2cnd Mac. Until this it will all seem like theory.
    "de rien"

  • Can I share one iTunes Library with multiple computers on a network?

Can I share one iTunes Library with multiple computers on a network?
note: one library universally shared, not Home Sharing (one library each, shared to each.)
I want to share one library stores on my server and access it through various local computers. When I buy a song from a computer (non-server), I want it to be added to the library (stored on server). I want it to auto copy to my server, for organization. I want to be able to sync my phone from any computer.
Most of this I can do, if i figure out how to use one universal library for all my computers.
Any ideas how I can do this?

    eyeinit,
You can authorize your iTunes account on up to 5 computers at a time.
However, purchased music is downloaded to the first machine to download it, but these articles have more information on moving your music between authorized computers:

This one is for moving all your music using an iPod as a storage drive

  • IPhone (not my iCloud account but still has my info and settings on it), able to transfer stuff to correct iCloud on my newer MBA?

This is how it is: Ive been using an iPhone (and cuz I didnt have a usable CC at the time) I used my gf's account and name, pw for this iCloud. CUrrently there is so much info on it I can;t lose - contacts, pix, apps etc.
Now I bought a MBA that I did set up with my own info, the iCloud with my name and pw. However it syncs to nothing. Is there a way to transfer the phone info so its universally shared on the cloud AND switching my phone account so it matches with the one I created so everythings tidy?
thanks... sorry if this is a dumb Q. Recently jumped from a PC and god does a mac feel/look/play better in every conceivable way

No, unfortunately you cannot just transfer everything of your data to a new account. It should work with contacts and some other data, but not with everything. You could try to delete your girlfriend's account from your phone (Settings > iCloud > Delete Account) and choose the option to keep the data for e.g. contacts on your phone. After you sign in using your new account, you will be asked, if you want to merge the data on your phone with your new account. Photos, the one that are stored locally, will be still on your phone.

    I've just installed the

The other parts to the Windows Universal app (the Windows 8.1 project and the Windows Phone 8.1 project) have two Azure NuGet packages installed: Windows Azure Mobile Services 1.3.2 and Windows Azure Storage 4.3.0. (N.B. Those two projects load without issue.)
This is not a show stopper for me since uninstalling the Azure SDK 2.6 removes the load failure. To uninstall I go via the Control Panel to 'uninstall or change a program' and then uninstall Microsoft Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 - v2.6
I would like to know how to fix this without uninstalling the Azure SDK 4.6.

  • Sharing HP LaserJet 200d on Windows 7 to XP machine

I need help sharing  my LaserJet 220d running on Windows 7 with another computer running XP.
The HP LaserJet was originally installed on the XP 32 bit machine and it ran fine. I bought a new computer with Windows 7, 64 bit and Windows automatically installed the software for the printer and it works fine on Windows 7.
I have printer sharing turned on and the XP machine CAN find the HP printer across the network.
In reading the HP web support on this topic I did try to configure the HP LaserJet for both 64 bit and 32 bit (x86) drivers. However, when I follow through the step outlined on this page -
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02030517
I run into a problem in locating the proper driver. I keep getting an error message saying that I do not have the correct file.
I tried all HP 2200 PCL 5 drivers that I could find on this link, including the universal driver -
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=28862&pr...
but non of them worked. I kept getting the message that I do not have the correct driver. The exact error message is "The requested location does not contain the driver for the HP LaserJet 2200 Series PCL 5 for the requested processor architecture.
What driver do I need to install on my windows 7 machine in order to allow the HP 2200d PCL 5 printer to be shared with my 32 bit XP machine and where do I find it?
    Thanks very much,
    Dan

HP seems pretty damned indifferent to its customers' problems.  I have about the same problem.  My computer has Windows 7 SP1 x64, with a LaserJet 2200D connected via USB.  I have been trying to share it with another computer, which is running Windows XP SP3 x86, on home network.
I am able to use the printer from my computer, but not from the XP machine.  I've tried to download "additional drivers" for the client machine, but keep getting messages "no driver found" after unzipping.  Also have tried installing drivers on the other computer, again to the same messages there.
I've had the printer working on both computers before, but only after hours of fiddling around with different drivers on both machines and then, only by luck it seems, did it work.  Can't seem to get it work this time around.
I usually reinstall Windows (win7) about once a year, and really do not want to have to go through this problem yet again next year.  I want to fix this problem now.

  • Universal App: no Application Insights for Windows Phone 8.1 project

I just created an universal app and installed the Application Insights Tools for Visual Studio extension. It was easy to add AI for the Windows 8.1 project. Unfortunately there is no "Add Application Insights Telemetry to project..." command for
the Windows Phone 8.1 project. Am I missing something? What might be wrong?
    Thanks
    Hans-Peter

Officially yes, but you should be able to get it to work:
    • Add Microsoft.ApplicationInsights.WindowsPhone package to the “Phone” project.
    • Add Microsoft.ApplicationInsights.WindowsStore package to the “Store” project.
    • Add <InstrumentationKey/> element to the ApplicationInsights.config files in both Phone and Store projects with the actual instrumentation key of your app. You need to decide whether you want to use single key for both windows and phone apps or separate
    keys.
    • Create a new instance of the TelemetryContext class in the App class in the Shared project and store it in a public static variable for use by the rest of the code in the universal project.

  • NetAuthAgent & nmbd suddenly active after using University wifi?

    Hello -
I'm trying to ascertain if I am at risk...
About 1 week ago I connected to the University of Minnesota's "guest" wifi network.  I was asked to provide an email address and that's all.  I was online.
But I use Little Snitch so granted access to a flurry of temporary connections to when they popped up as I was in a rush to connect.  Possibly a bad move, but I was guided through this process by a U of MN tech guy so I felt ok about it.  It worked for the weekend and that was that.  I didn't use my email or login to any websites, I just pulled up a YouTube video for a group's presentation.
All seemed well...  But, when I got home, I received 2 Little Snitch notifications: NetAuthAgent and nmbd.  I don't know if any of this is normal but NetAuthAgent showed up as ~myusername but nmbd showed up as root.
Also, my hard drive space also went down to zero on a random instance when Safari froze up, but I don't have a screen grab of that.
Also, in my Finder, there was a "PC Server" device listed under Shared.  This was new.  This freaked me out.
Not only have I been unable to stop NetAuthAgent and nmbd from prompting me for access every single time I start my computer, the times I have experimented/troubleshot the issue and give them permission, I'm getting the PC Server listed under Shared.
I've run MacScan and I can block it out by denying it access via Little Snitch, but I wanted to ask the digital Jedi out there if this was normal, because when I try to click "Connect To", it give me the following error...
I've seen NetAuthAgent & nmbd before, but not like this.
In summary, these instances started happening constantly after I used the University's network and has not gone away.
Thanks in advance for your time,
    - AmpLife
    P.S. I'm running the latest software on a MBP, 17" (Mid '09)

twtwtw, dude, youre good...  THANK YOU... i think we got it.
actually i didn't have to delete any proxy settings, i left those alone and deleted the wifi network i used at the university:
Sys Prefs > Network > Advanced > Airport > Preferred Networks
once i located the name of the potentially problematic wifi network (U of M Guest) that you said i might be connecting to under preferred networks, i clicked the " - " (minus symbol) to remove it.  after that I clicked "OK" and it went back to Network (sys pref) where i clicked "Apply".
finally, I quit everything and restarted my mac.  when it came back on, the requests for nmbd were gone and nothing i do can recreate the NetAuthAgent alert.
i'm also not seeing anything under shared that shouldn't be there!
    sweeet...
i'm going to sleep on it and give it 48 hours...  i'm sure it'll be fine, but when i verify it's gone, i'll come back and hit you with some Correct Answer points.  i wouldn't have thought to delete the preferred networks without you guiding me to the Sharing AND Network pref panes.
    peace!
PS: here is screen grab of the PASV thing (and the proxy settings i mentioned above) for your reference

  • Universal Apps and Push Notifications (Question on both Store and Phone app)

I have a Universal App and trying to implement notifications. I have an Azure Notification Hub and the code in the app.xaml.cs (shared) file that is creating the channel and binding to my notification hub. This all works great for the Windows Store app.
However, I don't receive any notifications on the Phone app (running in the emulator). I am wondering if this is because the code to create the PushNotificationChannel is only registering once (the Store app) and has the same URI as the phone app. This line
of code is what I am referring to:
    var channel = await PushNotificationChannelManager.CreatePushNotificationChannelForApplicationAsync();
Since this is by application, and I am essentially running the same app twice on the same machine, via the phone emulator, is only one URI being generated for this?
    Thanks for any assistance.

When you created the push notifications in the Azure, you chose the code fr Windows Store, not Windows Phone. as you mentioned you having a universal apps.
Hint: Did you enabled push notifications for local testing ?
This is the 4 steps to have a successful Push notification integration with your app
Register your app for push notifications
Update the service to send push notifications
Enable push notifications for local testing
Test push notifications in your app

  • Can you now have multiple Itunes accounts sharing content on one computer?

Hi - I was trying to find this information on line but cannot.
The last "big" Itunes update (11.2?) prevented multiple Itunes accounts from sharing content on one computer.  Well, you can, but with consequences. For example, my husband purchased a movie rental with his Itunes account on our computer when he logged on to Itunes, but then I could not download any Itunes content for 30 days when I logged on to my account. I no longer purchase any content from Apple because of this. I was hoping this feature has been discontinued – it prevents households from purchasing Itunes.  We never pirate or steal any content at all. In fact, this feature forces us out of the Itunes universe to purchase movie rentals and music elsewhere.
Not just trying to complain, really. Legitimately want to find out if this rights policy still exists before we both try to rent or purchase anything from Itunes.
    Thanks.

No. The 90 day limit ONLY applies to redownloading purchases from iTunes..
So if she were to redownload purchases from the father's account then she'd have to wait 90 days to redownload form her own account. and the computer can be authorized for multiple iTunes account (pretty sure it's 5) . You don't need to later reauthorize for first account if you authorize for a different account.
