UNIX Command to install app

So, in ARD, i have pushed out a app to the local Admin account of my laptops     I want to run that app from the root account on the Admin Desktop..
Say the app is called KC.app It seems to just have a .exe file in the app, it's NOT a .pkg that i can just push.
If i go to the actual machine and switch over to the Local Admin account, i run the app, and it asks for the local admin reds and does the rest.
I'm trying to automate it so i don't have to go to individual machines and switch to the admin account and launch this..
What command would you use in ARD to get the app on the local admin desktop to launch? I know i'm close on this....
Thanks.

or maybe something like this?:
./Users/admin/Desktop/KcsSetup.app/Contents/MacOS/KcsSetup install
But i keep getting a -29 error..
I can do it over Terminal if i SSH onto the machine, but i'm trying to do this by ARD...
i SSH on, and then go to the /admin/Desktop and run the command listed in the post above, and it asks for my password, and it runs..
But i'm trying to get this done using ARD as root instead of SSH..
I also tried over ARD:
open /Users/admin/Desktop/KcsSetup.app
as root, but got this error:
LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed with error -10810 for the file /Users/admin/Desktop/KcsSetup.app.

  • Unix command(s) to run a .app installer, not .pkg

    I asked this over in ARD, but there does not seem to be a "Terminal" forum to ask:
    UNIX Command to install app
    I have an Installation .app, not a .pkg that i need to get installed on all of my user's machines.. The company that created it does not offer .pkg installers. and No, they will not make one.
    I put the application/installer on the local admin desktop.
    I can SSH onto the machine and run the application./installer fine.
    But i can't get the UNIX to work over ARD.
    Can anyone assist? I think i'm close,
    Thanks.

    yeah, this .app is actually an installer. i know, not normal. but that's what it is, you launch the app, and it runs an installer... If i go though the contents of the app, it's just and exec file in there, Normally, i would just pull out the .pkg and push that over ARD, but this is a Unix Executable. so it won't work..
    I can launch it just fine and run it just fine. the problem is that i don't want to go to 90 machines and switch over to the Admin side and run the app rom there, and enter my local admin creed 90 times...
    I suppose in writing this that i "could" run it form the logged-in user desktop, but then again, since users are not local admins, i would have to intervene and enter the local admin reds to get it to run.

  • ARD Unix Command install with root

    I'm a bit of a unix novice, I am trying to install a script file, 'install.sh', via ARD. Works fine in Terminal locally but I can't work out how to input the root password via the ARD unix command tool.
    cd Desktop
    chmod +x install.sh
    ./install.sh -i
    & set to run command as Root.
    I'm getting seemingly nonsense errors e.g. 'Error 127 sh: line 1: cd: Desktop: No such File or Directory' when the file is definitely there, on the desktop.
    I'm pretty sure it needs to enter the root pw in the code window, can anyone advise please?

    when you say install.sh is on the desktop of the remote computer. Is that the desktop for account root? Or is that the desktop of the current logged in users? (assuming the currently logged in user is not root)
    when you run a command as root you start at "/var/root/" there is only going to be a folder /var/root/desktop/, if you've used the login window at least ones to log into root.
    if the current user logged into the remote computer is another account, then your install.sh resides in another location. Witch will look some thing like this. /Users/nameOfUser/Desktop/install.sh
    try this. Send the command:
    cd Desktop
    pwd
    send the command first as the current logged in user, then as root. When you run it the first time, you should get some thing like  /Users/nameOfUser/Desktop/
    when you run it as root you'll probable see /var/root/.
    if you do then you would probable want to do some thing like
    chmod +x /Users/nameOfUser/Desktop/install.sh
    /Users/nameOfUser/Desktop/install.sh -i

  • Method to restart Oracle Apps 11i OPP via Unix command line

    Hi All,
    Does any one knows if there any way to restart Oracle Apps 11i Output Post Processor (OPP) via the UNIX command line?
    Thanks

    Oracle-User wrote:
    Do you recommend that I set the profile option Concurrent: OPP Response Timeout to a higher value instead of increasing OPP Processes from 1 to 2? Yes.
    I'm thinking that increasing OPP Response Timeout to a higher value will not solve our issue as it seems that once we get our first OPP Timeout error, all of the requests that need the OPP fail. We've had this occur on a Saturday, which is a day where the volume of jobs that need the OPP is very low. The error you are getting is related to the timeout and it has nothing to do with the number of OPP processes you are running on. Please set this profile option and check then (after you bounce the OPP).
    Thanks,

  • Do previously installed UNIX commands retain themselves in Lion?

    If I update to Lion, will my user defined UNIX commands that I keep in /usr/local/bin/ still be there, or do I have to do a complete system overhaul to put them back?  (due to multiple dependencies and builds)

    Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1

    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 4

  • "at" UNIX Command in Java Program

    Friends,
    1. "at" command in UNIX execute Unix command at a scheduled time. 2. For each user there will be a table maintained internally which can be accessed by "at" with "-l" argument.
    3. A mail will be sent to the owner with the output of the commands as a message.
    I tried to run the "at" command of Unix in JSP, which gets succesfully executed in Oracle 10g App Server container (Installed in Solaris machine). I have tested the successful execution of command with the log file. But I haven't got any mail for the output. If anyone had any idea, please help me.
    The code I have wtitten is
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process proc = rt.exec(new String[] {"sh","-c","at 2115 Dec 7 < /export/home/usr1/abc.sh"});
    InputStream stderr = proc.getErrorStream();
    InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(stderr);
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr);
    String line = null;
    logger.info("<ERROR>");
    while ( (line = br.readLine()) != null)
    logger.info(line);
    logger.info("</ERROR>");
    int exitVal = proc.waitFor();
    logger.info("Process exitValue: " + exitVal);
    My doubts are:
    1. Who is the owner of the output of "at"command, which gets executed under Oracle 10g App Server container?
    2. If no one is the owner, then where will the output of "at" command will go?
    3. Is there any other way to execute "at" command of UNIX in java program? If so, then please help me.
    Thanks in advance.

    filestream I have to ask - what's a chav ?
    I have doubts abut what it is :-)
    Seriously though, what is that an abbreviation for?
    That's a new one to me.
    http://www.chavscum.co.uk
    chavs are roughly analogous to rednecksI wouldn't use that analogy. While both may lack certain social graces, rednecks typically don't receive ASBOs.
    Chavs favor small cars with lots of bling whereas rednecks are likely to drive a pickup or a large sedan.
    Chavs have pitbulls in their yards (gardens), rednecks an '84 Mustang LX on cinder blocks.
    etc, etc.

  • Unix Command Disabled in Startup Items

    I have a MaXtor One Touch II. After installing the software, during the Restart, Mac advised me that the security settings for an unknown (to me) file needed to be fixed or disabled. I disabled it and have now realised it was a UNIX command to watch the One Touch button. I found the file using System Profiler and it lies domant in the Startup Items.
    How do I enable it again?

    I don't know what mechanism is used to disable the "StartupItem" in this situation, but I have read that one way is by creating an invisible ".disabled" file in the top level of a given startup item's folder. If this is the case here, there are a few ways to get rid of the item but since there aren't a lot of details in your post, I'll suggest a generic method. Try opening "/Applications" > "AppleScript" > "Script Editor.app", paste these lines, and click "Run":<pre>set theItem to (choose folder default location path to startup items)
    set ppath to quoted form of (POSIX path of theItem & ".disabled")
    do shell script "mv " & ppath & " ~/.Trash" with administrator privileges</pre>Choose the folder corresponding to the specific startup that is to be enabled, and provide the "admin" username and password at the prompt. If the "startup item" has been disabled by another method, the script won't find a ".disabled" file so it should just fail harmlessly.
    However, there have been issues with other third party startup items being improperly programmed so that they required incorrect permissions in order to function. If this is the case, the "security settings" dialogue may continue to appear, despite choosing the "fix" option. If that happens, check the Maxtor website for updated software.

  • Using ARD to send UNIX command to add item to dock

    The ARD 3 Admin Guide, page 132, says the following command sequence will install an item in the dock of the target computer(s):
    4) Type or paste the following UNIX command (replace /PathToApplication with your own path to the desired application, and be sure to include the application file extension, .app):
    defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add '<dict><key>tiledata</
    key><dict><key>file-data</key>
    <dict><key>CFURLString</key><string>/Path_ToApplication
    </string><key>_CFURLStringType</key><integer>0</integer></dict>
    </dict></dict>';killall -HUP Dock
    Use “persistent-others” instead of “persistent-apps” if the item is anything other than an application.
    I am unable to make it work. Could anyone help with the correct syntax or suggestions as to how to perform a remote addition to the target computer dock.

    Do you have JSS? I ask because your script contains the word JAMF allot.. if you do have a jss, is there a reason your trying to use ARD instead of your JSS to run this script?
    When issuing the script from ARD as a send unix command, Have you cosnidered using the option to run command as user "root" ?
    are you sure you want to do this? the script look like it dose more then just disable the isite. And do you know how to undo this if you change your mind?

  • Unix Command to change remote screen resolution

    greetings,
    well the topic pretty much says it all :
    I'm running ARD 2,2 on a 10.2.8 Server , from my remote admin box I get a recurring "attempt to reconnect" to the machine when controlling or observing the screen.
    I ran a report which list the servers screen resolution as 1600x1200 (holy smokes bullwinkle). This setting is not correct. I can fully interact with the server (thru the menus of ARD) and all services are running. The server is at the login screen ( as per ARD "current app").
    thank you

    First, you need to install a utility called cscreen (freeware) on the server (or any other workstation you want to control).
    Once you have that installed, here is the syntax for the Send Unix Command:
    Usage: cscreen [-d <depth>] [-x <width>] [-y <height>] [-r <refresh>] [-s <display>] [-v] [-m] [-f] [-l] [-h]
    [-d <depth>] : specifies the bit depth (bits per pixel)
    [-x <width>] : specifies the width in pixels
    [-y <height>] : specifies the height in pixels
    [-r <refresh>] : specifies the refresh rate in Hz
    [-s <display>] : specifies which display to use (defaults to main display)
    use a as the option to -s to specify the action on all displays
    [-v] : display valid modes (use -s to specify display or nothing for the default)
    [-m] : require an exact match
    [-f] : forces settings (ignores safety mechanisms; USE AT YOUR OWN RISK)
    [-l] : lists the current displays and modes
    [-p] : sets the requested display to have the menu bar
    [-h] : displays the usage
    Note: Using -p will change the display index so you will likely want to use -l again to show the current displays if you wish to use -p a second time.
    For example, to set to 1024x768:
    /pathtoutility/cscreen -x 1024 -y 768

  • What is the absolute client permission needed to receive Unix commands?

    The ARD error "This task is not authorized on (computerName)" is forcing me to allow almost all the privileges in the Remote Management section of client computer's Sharing System Preferences. I've already had to add:
    "open and quit applications"
    "change settings"
    "delete and replace items"
    "restart and shutdown" (see this Apple document's suggestion for Unix commands)
    "copy items"
    It makes no sense to my why 'Generate reports' must also be added, but clicking it off makes the error return. I'm just triggering a Unix command that goes something like "echo 1" and runs as root on the one test computer (and potentially dozens, so it wouldn't be pretty changing settings in that many) If it helps, the ARD host is 10.6.7 with ARD 3.4 (installed via the App Store a couple weeks ago) and the clients are 10.4.11 and 10.5.8.
    I'm preparing documentation for ARD and some clients installing our software will not warm to the idea of widening up the permissions footprint. Potentially dozens of computers will need to be retweaked, even if they wouldn't have to leave their seat.
    We also will need to deploy a pkg installer, so some of those may need to remain checked, but ...
    What is the absolute client permission needed to receive Unix commands?
    Thanks

    Have you tried sending it as User: Root
    To my knowledge with that setting you do not need any client permissions as a unix command used as Root overides any permission set. If this is something you need to do often I do know for a fact you can make the report task up use send as Root and tell it to save as template. After this you will be able use the templte to make things a bet quicker. I believe in oder to do this you must enable root user open Directory Utility in order to do this. Keep in mind root has full permissions and any command you enter with unix will be executed as such. This is a word around in the way that the normal client users do not need to have permissions enabled, also having root available at times is handy in stick situations.
