Unix:Using OCI with C++ on Solarus 8

I am using the FORTE C++ compiler on UNIX Solarus 8. I am looking for the UNIX C/C++ OCI libraries to build Server and Client components to interact with an Oracle database.
Please direct me to a URL where I can find the OCI libraries and header files for C++ on UNIX??
Thanks in advance.

Mitchell,
You should be able to find header files and libraries in the $ORACLE_HOME/oci subdirectories. By the way, you can use the new OCCI (Oracle C++ Call Interface) in Oracle9i to access Oracle databases. OCCI would be a lot easier for you if you are using C++.

Geoff

  • Using OCI with Oracle RDB V7.0.3

    We will shortly be upgrading our RDB installation under OpenVMS (Alpha) to version 7.0.3 of RDB, running on version 7.2 OpenVMS.
    Q1) Will it be possible to use the 'Oracle Call Interface' or OCI with this version of RDB. If so, what extra software components, if any, will be required.
    Q2) We would also like to use Designer/2000, Developer/2000 and Discoverer/2000. Is this possible with this version of RDB and, if so, what extra software components are required.
    Many thanks

    Hi Shivek,
    An excellent solution for this is provided in the metalink Note:455905.1.
    Let me know if you have more questions.

    Well Perhaps you would like to tell us a little bit about your installation of OSX.
    keeping in mind that there is currently 4 different revisions.
    but i would guess your library is out of date, VRS the library on your osx version

  • Using OCI without SRM

    Hi all,
    i was asked to verify if it is possible to implement a vendor integration without an SRM Server. The vendor offers a catalog that supports OCI.
    We want to build a simple prototype that shows the vendors catalog, gets the data from it and processes the returned data.
    In our ERP system (2004 and 2004s) I found the package BBP_WS_BASIS which contains sample implementations for the OCI. As far as I tried, I could not get the example apps running.
    Unfortunately I was not able to to find any documentation on the package.
    Has anyone experience with the package or in using OCI with ERP without SRM?
    Any information might help.

    and to set up this var (the dynamic lib path) so that you can use your windows app from the finder or xcode, you can check this:
    "This is true, but it is also possible, and I believe Gary alluded to
    this in his post, to set environment variables for all GUI apps a user
    launches under Mac OS X. In every user's home directory, there is an
    invisible directory named:
    .MacOSX
    In that .MacOSX directory create (or add to, if it already exits) a
    .plist file named:
    .environment.plist
    The easiest way to edit .plist files is with Property List Editor Which
    is in /Developer/Applications if you've installed the Developer Tools
    (or Xcode).
    To add environment variables that will be in effect for any GUI app,
    such as the Carbon Version of Emacs, available at:
    <http://mindlube.com/products/emacs/index.html>
    add new children to the Root entry (or new siblings of existing child
    entries, same diff), one for each environment variable, and enter it's
    value on the right hand side.
    For example, to use slime with sbcl, the environment variable SBCL_HOME
    must be set (it's the directory where the sbcl core file is). So, you'd
    make a new child named SBCL_CORE and set its value to /usr/lib/sbcl (if
    that's where you've installed sbcl).
    To have a certain value of PATH in effect for all GUI apps, add (or
    modify if already existing) a child named PATH and set its value to:
    .:/another/directory/I/want/to/add:/yet/another:/another/still
    Note the .: at the beginning (dot colon) - this tells the system to add
    these entries to the existing default entries which are already in
    effect for all Mac OS X GUI apps. Note that the last entry does *not*
    need to have a colon after it.
    N.B. - For any changes to take effect, you will have to log out and log
    back in. This one has bitten me many times. Dammed aggressive caching!
    (unfortunately, merely executing:
    touch ~/.MacOSX and/or
    touch ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist
    will not work. You really do need to log out and back in again).
    Does anybody know if there's a process that can be killed and
    restarted so that logging out can be avoided (probably the
    WindowServer, so you'd lose anyway - oh well)."

  • SQL Developer 3.2 crashes with java error when using OCI/Thick Driver

    I just installed SQL Developer 3.2 on my linux desktop. SQL Developer crashes with a java error when I select a database from the object tree.
    When I check Use OCI/Thick driver the application will crash when I navigate to the tree and open a database.
    The app does not crash then I have Use OCI/Thick driver unchecked.
    Here are some details of my environment:

    I also had the problem of SQL Developer crashing when using OCI/Thick driver but I've managed to solve it. My configuration is:
    - Windows 64-bit
    - Java 64-bit (1.6.0.34)
    - SQL Developer 3.2.09 64-bit
    - OCI Instant client 11.2.0.3 64-bit (without installation).
    The thing that solved the problem was copying two files, ojdbc5.jar and ojdbc6.jar, from Instant client installation folder to JAVA_HOME/lib/ext folder+.
    After that, I haven't had a single crash or error message.
    The same trick that solved the problem on 64-bit installation also solved the problem on another windows computer with 32-bit SQL Developer installation.

  • How to use "OCI Statement Cache - OCIStmtPrepare2" with XA ? Tuxedo ?

    Hi All
    Is there is a way to use "OCI Statement Cache - OCIStmtPrepare2" with tuxedo and XA ?
    We have found out that a lot of the "CPU time" is spent by OCIStmtPrepare. We have 8 frequent statements (with bind) that we would like to cache .
    Based on the following ORACLE paper, our interpenetration is that it is not allowed to cache statements when using XA.
    *"Oracle® Database Advanced Application Developer's Guide 11g Release 1 (11.1)" - "Developing Applications with Oracle XA"*
    Highlights from the ORACLE paper.
    "When used in an Oracle XA application, cursors are valid only for the duration of the transaction. Explicit cursors must be opened after the transaction begins, and closed before the commit or rollback."
    "Ensure that the application resets the fetch state before ending a transaction. In general, use release_cursor=no. Use release_cursor=yes only when you are certain that a statement will execute only once."
    Regards
    TechSgin

    confirmed by ORACLE.
    XA connections don't support OCIStmtPrepare2 (statement caching)

    Bathina,
    Your problem is in your URL:
    String url="jdbc:oracle://oci8:/@mohan";As far as I know, you can't use the forward-slash character ("/"), by itself, as your database login name -- you must supply a "login/password". I don't know why, and if you don't like it, I suggest you create a TAR (Technical Assistance Request) via the MetaLink Web site.
    I recall similar questions being asked in this forum -- have you tried searching the forum archives?
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • How to bind arrays to PL/SQL stored procedure using OCI?

    Hi,
    We are having problems trying to bind arrays to PL/SQL stored procedure using OCI. Here is the situation:
    - We have a stored procedure called "GetVEPFindTasks" with the following interface:
    PROCEDURE GetVEPFindTasks (
    p_ErrorCode OUT NUMBER,
    p_ErrorMsg OUT VARCHAR2,
    p_RowCount OUT NUMBER,
    p_VEPFindTasks OUT t_VEPFindTaskRecordTable,
    p_MaxTask IN NUMBER);
    t_VEPFindTaskRecordTable is a record with the following entries:
    TYPE t_VEPFindTaskRecord IS RECORD (
    RTCID NUMBER,
    TransNum NUMBER,
    TransTimestamp VARCHAR2(20),
    Pathname1 image_data.pathname%TYPE,
    Pathname2 image_data.pathname%TYPE,
    Pathname3 image_data.pathname%TYPE,
    OperatorID operator.id%TYPE);
    - Now, we are trying to call the stored procedure from C++ using OCI (in UNIX). The call that we use are: OCIBindByName and OCIBindArrayOfStruct to bind the parameters to the corresponding buffers. We bind all parameters in the interface by name. Now, we do bind the record's individual item by name (RTCID, TransNum, etc.), and not as a record. I don't know if this is going to work. Then, we use the bind handles of the binded record items (only record items such as RTCID, TransNum, and NOT error_code which is not part of the record) to bind the arrays (using OCIBindArrayOfStruct).
    All of the parameters that are binded as arrays are OUTPUT parameters. The rest are either INPUT or INPUT/OUTPUT parameters. Now, when we try to execute, OCI returns with an error "Invalid number or types of arguments" (or something to that sort... the number was something like ORA-06550). Please help...
    Is there any sample on how to use the OCIBindArrayOfStruct with PL/SQL stored procedures? The sample provided from Oracle is only for a straight SQL statement.
    Thank's for all your help.
    ** Dannil Chan **

    As you said:
    You have to pass in an array for every field and deconstruct/construct the record in the procedure. There is no support for record type or an array of records. Can you give me a example? I'am very urgently need it.
    thanks

  • How to use Terminal with KeySpan USB serial adaptor cable?

    I own a KeySpan model USA-19HS to use with our MacBookPro when working on clients networking equipment that require serial communication. I have used ZTerm with excellent luck, but it costs, and is yet another application that I dont really want. I would like to know if any one out there has exacing instructions on how to use Terminal with this adaptor. If I could write a file that had, say, the couple most common settings (9600-8-n-1, 57600-8-n-1, et cetera) that I could simply click on, to open a new Terminal window with those settings, then simply close that, and open a new window (apple+n) in order to get back to a default settings terminal window. All feedback is most appreciated.
    Thanks so much, Jason Sjobeck

    Hi, Jason. Welcome to the Discussions.
    You wrote: "All feedback is most appreciated."OK.
    1. Have you considered discussing this with Keyspan Support?
    2. Have you read the section "OSX has Terminal.app - why do I need ZTerm?" on the ZTerm Home Page? That seems to explain why one needs an app like ZTerm.
    3. A quick search of Keyspan's FAQ for your product and terminal doesn't yield much more than how to find the serial ports using Terminal.
    Likewise, this Google search also yields little, and variants of that search of such weren't particularly help either.
    It appears your inquiry seems to be a somewhat esoteric topic.
    4. Apparently, ZTerm X is a bit long in the tooth and there's no Universal Binary for it. It sounds, however, like you've tried it running on your MBP under Rosetta, yes?
    5. In researching alternatives to ZTerm for you, I note the followng:• The comment from "Reverb" on this page suggests C-Kermit or Kermit as a free alternative.
    • This tip on Mac OS X Hints cites Minicom as another option.6. You may want to try your question on the Unix Discussion.
    Good luck!

    When I am using thin driver, I am successful in connecting to the database
    oracle.url=jdbc:oracle:thin:@(description=(address=(host=url.name.com)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(sid=user)))
    I am using JBOSS 1.6 with oracle 11.1.0 and jdk 1.6
    Please help me resolve the problem
    Thanks,
    Kumar

    You should confirm that you can connect to the DB with a simple Java class using the url that the code you posted is using.
    This will show that the OCI client is installed and executing properly. If you can't connect externally you will need to fix that first.
    Is the Oracle client installed on the same machine the JDBC code is running on?

  • Can't connect using OCI JDBC driver in OC4J 10.1.3.3 standalone

    Hi all,
    I've recently upgraded my JDev from 10.1.3.2 to 10.1.3.3 and now I'm unable to establish any OCI connections with my local Oracle 10.1.0.4 database. Not even through a connection pool. The strangest thing is that when I test an OCI connection running from JDeveloper it works fine and the JDBC jars and the oci client are exactly the same.
    The error is always the same when I execute a test on a connection pool using the OCI driver:
    WARNING J2EE DS-00001 Exception occurred testing connection. Exception: java.sql.SQLException: Closed Connection.
    If I just change the driver to the THIN one, the same test works. If I take the same URL from the OCI test and use it in a test class and run it inside JDeveloper, it works also.
    I've even downloaded the instant client 10.1.0.5 (which happens to be exactly the same version of the JDBC driver that comes with JDev 10.1.3.3) and tried to use it with no success.
    THIN connections are working just fine. The problem happens only when I try to connect via OCI and this problem was not happening in version 10.1.3.2.
    Any help?

    I found the cause of this problem. It turns out that you must be very careful with the environment variable ORACLE_HOME. On Windows, normally, we don't even set this variable because most applications are able to get it from the system's registry.
    Well, it happened that I've edited the script start_oc4j.bat and, for organization reasons, I set the ORACLE_HOME variable with my JDeveloper's home directory (which is the same as my OC4J standalone's). By doing that, I kind of confused the OCI client. Once I removed the "set ORACLE_HOME=C:\JDev" line from the script, everything worked just fine again.
    So, always remember: avoid setting environment variable ORACLE_HOME when using Windows and, if you must set it, be sure to do it right.
    Regards,
    Eduardo.

  • How to use Java with PL/SQL commands to send an email with attachment

    Apologizes in advance if this is the wrong place to ask the question.
    I need to use Java with PL/SQL commands to send an email with attachment. My java application runs from the command line and does some magic to gather info from an Oracle 11g db. If the DB has sendmail configured, I'd like to send the results of the data gathering as an attachment to the email addresses. I'm not sure how to do this. I've been reading up on on PL/SQL can send email with UTL_SMTP - with attachments. I'm just not sure how to translate that into being triggered by my Java application. Any suggestions or pointers on what I should read would be appreciated.
    Background - I've been programming in Java for 10+ years, but this is my first time using databases. I also have been on these forums for a long time, but lost my profile when it was switched to Oracle.
    Thanks for all help.

    The original requirements were put together and given to me, an Oracle newbie. They expected the Java app to use something intrinsic to Oracle and Unix sendmail. To solve my problem, I use a JDBC connection to run some SQL commands. I take that data, format it and send the results by email to the user. By default the requirement is to send it as an HTML attachment using Unix 'sendmail'. So I do that using Runtime exec. I have also added JavaMail functionality as an alternative to sendmail. It works great and as expected.Sounds like a reasonable solution.
    Note however that PL/SQL itself can send email. And PL/SQL can call unix sendmail too.
    However myself I would have done it in java with JavaMail.

  • Problem JDBC Connection using OCI Driver on Weblogic Portal on Linux

    Hi Team,
    I want a JDBC connection using OCI Driver in Weblogic Portal 8.1 sp4 on Linux. When I had tested using JDBC connection using Plain Java Code it is working. Also when I create the OCI Connection Weblogic Connection Pool it is working.
    But My Requirement is to create the connection using Java Code in Portal Application
    But When I create OCI connection in the code it is throwing NO SUITABLE DRIVER Found.
    ---------- Code in Plain Java Code ------------ Same code is used in Weblogic Portal Application --------------------------------
         public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception{
              Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
              DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());

              Properties props = new Properties();
         props.put("user","scott");
         props.put("password","tiger");
              conn=DriverManager.getConnection(url,props);
    When I am using the same code in Weblogic Portal and Deployed on Weblogic Portal Server 8.1 SP4 it is throwing following error.

    Hi Vishnu
    Looks like a classloader issue. BEA class loader is very tricky. Any jar added manually in classpath, will end up loading only those classes. Any imports that we have in any of those classes do not get loaded. Anyhow, coming to your point, add classes12.jar inside your portal web project Web-Inf/lib folder and see if that helps. Usually thats where we put all the JARs for 8.1 SPxx applications. If this still breaks, then remove the jar from web-inf/lib folder and add under your portal app App-Inf/lib folder. First try with app-inf/lib folder having this jar. If not then with web-inf/lib. Basically web-inf is specific to that web app only. If you have a different app having this jdbc code, then put under app-inf/lib folder. Make sure that you remove the classes12.jar that you added in classpath either in env variable or in setdomainenv.cmd file.
    When weblogic uses native OCI Drivers, it refers to jars at this location: ....\beawlp814\weblogic81\server\ext\jdbc\oracle\10g or 9g. Try using one of these jars and see if that works. Most of the times I used these jars only for oracle specific native drivers.
    Word of caution. Try to use Connection Pool and a DataSource created in weblogic console for your jdbc code. This Datasource can still use the Oracle drivers that you want (instead of BEA Weblogic wrapper oci drivers) located in above location. Use JNDI Lookup and get Datasource and then connection. This is more recommended approach with many advantages then using DriverManager approach..
