Unknown Charge Sent to Debt Collection

* 1st incident *
November 2012, I purchased a verizon galaxy s3. Upon buying it, I tried to keep my older number. They said even though my contact was ended, because the number was added to a family share plan it was re-instated on that contract with that phone, and I would need a new number. So I payed the $350 for the phone and the $130 for the activation fee. I asked if everything is payed and okay now. They said yes and you won't get your 1st bill till the end of the month. I got a letter at the end of the month saying I am charged a late fee of $15 for not paying the 1st month, and I owe 1st month and 2nd month. I sighed and paid it since I didn't have time to dispute such things.
* 2nd incident *
Saturday, I get a letter from a debt collection agency saying I owe verizon $13.02 (ruining my perfect credit score). Upon receiving this letter (March 02) it says if I do not disput it within 30 days of January 17th, I will automatically be pleeding guilty. When I call verizon to ask if this was some sort of phishing attack, they said it was over an account I closed a year ago and it is real. When I closed the account (regarding a USB Modem) the balance was $0. I asked them if there would be any fee's in the future I would have to pay (knowing verizon), and they said "no, your balance is $0 and the account is closed". Back to today on the phone conversation, the lady said they cannot check why I owe the the $13.02 or what it is for, and I need to call the billing agency. She gave me a number, and said they are only open Monday-Friday 8am-6pm (hours I work 8am - 10pm). She said to take time off work to make the call to find out what is going on. So I am going to have to take the day off work knowing that dealing with such issues with verizon over the phone can take 2-3 hours. I'm so frustrated I don't know what to do about this. I don't mind paying the fee, it's having a dent in my perfect credit score because verizon fails to notify me of some mysterious charge that shows up, and just sends it off to the debt collection agency.

Okay so I just spoke with a lady over the phone that made it kind of confusing in the explanation. Basically the bill was charged for the advanced month that wouldn't show up till the next bill cycle (even after closing my account). Since the advanced month had a 0 usage the bill was pro-rated to $13.02. I made the payment, and she said it will take 24 - 48 hours before the collections is notified. I will be calling them in 3 days to ensure that this will not be reported on my credit record, as well as checking my credit history to look for a dent in the made payments. If it shows up then I'm going to have to dispute that as I never received any notice that I needed to pay that fee.

  • Current BT customer sent to debt collectors for un...

    Hi,
Firstly I would like to point out, just so I don't have to repeat myself throughout later, that what I am about to describe can - at best - be described as appalling customer service. At worst it is probably tiptoeing around fraud.
I moved house in January after having a BT phone line at a previous address for 18 months, paying by variable direct debit. However the house that I moved to did not have a phone line connected so the move was pretty painful - BT were not any help here - basically it seemed like the only way to get it done was to apply for a new phone line here. So due to BT's processes, I guess I ended up with two accounts, all for the same person though in my application for this house I gave them my previous house and phone details.
I left the phone line connected at the old house for a couple of months to help the landlord out, and when the new tenants transferred the phone to themselves I was phoned by BT to confirm that I was happy for that to happen. I said it was fine and the last few months had been paid by direct debit as per normal - so I believed that this was the end of it. I was not told at this time that BT were about to charge me for the remaining time on a contract that I never renewed.
Now, 4 months later, I get a phonecall from a debt collection agency chasing money on the old account. I was surprised by this - since the account was paid by direct debit I didn't understand how anything could be outstanding. Its for termination charges, I was told. This surprised me because I had only ever taken out a 12 month contract - I would never had renewed it as I only had another 6 months left on the lease. It is doubly surprising since I am still a BT customer, and rather than telling me they sent it straight to a debt collection agency.
I have notified the debt collection agency that I dispute the charges. However, it is going to take someone from BT to sort this out, so please do. You have already damaged your customer relationship possibly beyond repair by sending me to a debt collectors rather than sending me a bill (I guess it was too much work to check your own customer database first).
Checking through the fine print of  your terms and conditions of one of the extras I had on the phone line, I see you have some ridiculous clauses in there to automatically renew a 12 month contract into another 12 month contract - I am surprised this is legal since effectively you are forcing people into a subsequent contract without their agreement. If that is legal it must be a huge benefit to the other unscrupulous companies out there!!! Anyway it also says that you notify the customers before you do so to give them the opportunity to opt out - I was never notified and indeed this was the first I heard about it. When I first signed up for my phone contract for 12 months there was no such clause and when someone upsold me (by phone) on the friends and family international plan they most definitely did not warn me that I was then forced to buy my phone rental from BT in 1 year blocks.
What I would like is for these - in my view, illegal, but at the very least non-contractual - charges to be removed from my account. I would also like to know what you recommend I can do to protect myself from this kind of unscrupulous business practise in the future.
I look forward to your response
    Steve

    Hi Steve and welcome
I too have had to discuss this with BT when I noticed that I was automatically signed up for another 12 months without any contract end date / contract renewal notification. They accepted that there had been a 'technical issue' and a note was placed on my file to say that I would not be held to terms of the contract. This was done over the phone but as you have written that you are looking forward to their response then you may wish to email the forum mods - [email protected] - with your account details. Theres a good chance they can sort this out for you.

  • Why do I have 2 to 3 unknown charges in my account

I have charges in my bank account with unknown charges in dad i didn't purchase anything

Contact iTunes Support - nobody here has access to your account to find out what they are.
Check the email address iTunes Receipts are sent to though. Maybe there's an in-app purchase you (or someone with access to your password) made.

  • BT Wifi debt collection email.

So a year or two ago I had a BT Wifi package for my old accomodation. I kept used it often and regulary and kept up with all the bills and payments.
I moved house and had no use of it anymore, but still kept up with payments. But at one point I got an email saying I had missed a payment, even though I had the funds in the account for them to take (It was setup as a direct debit), a day later I got another email pretty much saying 'Fine, we have canceled this service. Done.' Which I was happy with because as I said I didnt need it.
Now over a year later, I just purchased a BT internet package last week, and today I got an email from a debt collection agency asking for money from BT. It goes into no details or anything, just to pay up £150. My best guess is this is because 'THEY' ended my contract early, not myself. Obviously I moved house, and they deleted the account anyway to access it, so I was oblivious to this because I got no emails, letters and couldnt login to check (No reason why I would though)
I was also in the process of talking with support about swapping to a full BT package at no extra cost before they randomly decided to delete my account.
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do, or if even just to ignore it?

now seems like a good time to request an update on my report. i paid every penny to this money grubbing bank and they did not report like they said they would. i entered a hardship plan and was promised it would say closed by consumer which they did not do. they also have my highest balance listed as over credit limit which is a 15 point killer seems kind of unfair since they took away the fee's that brought my balance up that high. i never spent over my limit. they revised it once on one report but when i requested the consumer dispute comment be removed someone it got added back. three lates in 8 years but still counts as a negative acct even though it's paid in full. glad to see someone is doing something about these big greedy dishonest banks.

  • GEEKSQUAD RENE00015826 Unknown Charge

I just checked my credit card statement and saw a charge for $53.11 that was made 12/21/14 from a GEEKSQUAD RENE00015826 apparently from MN. I'm not sure what this is for and would like to know if possible, thanks.

    Hello PriscillaQ,
Unknown charges can be confusing things. I am sorry if this has created any inconvenience for you due to those funds being charged to your account, and I would be happy to check into this for you.
The things hockeycanuckjc has brought up are certainly possible explanations behind this mystery charge, but it seems you may have eliminated the antivirus as a possibility due to how you purchased it. However, without acquiring more information from you, I will be unable to provide you with a definite reason. You may also dispute this charge with your financial institution. Best Buy should be able to partner with them in the investigation process for any information needed.
Please let me know if you haven’t received a resolution to this yet as I would be happy to try and help.

  • Harassed by debt collection company for Verizon account I don't even own

I've been receiving letters from Debt Recovery Solutions claiming that I owe Verizon Southwest $292.69 for cable/cellular service. I don't even use Verizon for cable/cell, only internet and I've never missed a bill. And the account number they referenced is not even mine. Worst of all they reported this as a deliquent account and is negatively affecting my credit score, lowering it by almost 100 points. Anyone experienced this before? Do I need to get a lawyer to resolve this?

    Hi elunic0,
Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under "My Support Cases" you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. • Unknown charges/BBM

    Hi.
I've noticed that credit is being taken off my account yet I don't really know why.
I thought it was the BBM, but I was under the impression messages sent via BBM, all over the world, were free....
Myself and my friend abroad, have a BB 8520. I'm in the UK, my friend in The Netherlands.
I'm checking my usage history, I'm on Orange PAYG and all I see five pages of pretty much the same thing. There's a ton of 'em - this is just copied and is only a sample:
date & time  event type   dialled number/description  duration/vol(Kb)  cost (£)
    06/09/10 10:18 GPRS ap-prepaidsessio 3.0 0.02

    05/09/10 15:48 GPRS ap-prepaidsessio 6.0 0.03
I know it's only pennies, but these are adding up in to several pounds.
My texts are showing up as free, which they should be. I have 300/600 free texts.
And I never make a phone call!
I either text or use the BBM.
This is only something I've noticed in the past couple of days but according to my history on my Orange account, it's been like this for a few weeks.
I contacted customer services yesterday and I was informed I do have the data plan, £5 a month goes off my credit, even though I really do not recall having a message about it for a while now.
So, yeah, why am I being charged, is it not free or...?
    I'm slightly confused tbh!
    Thanks
*Edit: And in the process of typing the message another 2p has gone... :-S

    Hiya!
Is this an actual Blackberry data plan?  Do you have email setup on your device? And BBM doesnt usually  cost people money as it is typically billed against data, but it isnt exactly 'free'
Your device automatically "polls" email roughly every 15 minutes. also IM (such as BBM) require data transfer.
I would ask your carrier the details of your 'data plan' mainly because your billed details are indicating Pay Per Use data charges.
GPRS means General Packet Radio Service:
A GSM initiative to deliver high speed packet data services to mobile terminals. GPRS allows many users to share the same channel and allows users to stay virtually 'on line' all of the time; radio resources are used only when data is actually being transmitted or received.
In a nutshell GPRS prepaid session means your being billed data at a ppu rate.
Please call your carrier for details.

I would like to know how to tell what I am being charged for. I have two .99 charges on my bank account and I am unsure as to what they are for. One in particular is from today and I have not purchased anything. I did do some app updates. Am I being charged for updating a purchased app?

My account was charged almost $30.00 for apps that I did not purchase! How do I contact apple about these charges?

I'm guessing you are in the US, apologies if i'm wrong, but if you are then do the following
Check your account history for the relevant order numbers/purchase date, cost etc. of the disputed items
Go to the Apple Express Lane Support for iTunes

    Choose iTunes Store
    Then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
    Click Continue
Choose the devices and versions of iTunes that you normally connect to the iTunes store from and click continue
you will be taken to a page where you can e-mail Apple who will aim to respond within 24 hours

  • COMPLAINT - Debt Collection from Pastdue Credit So...

    Hi,
I've received a letter from Pastdue Credit Solutions stating that I've outstanding BT Bill of £156.41 for property which I vacated in Oct, 2010.
As far as I know, before vacating the property, I contacted  BT and paid all the outstanding amount.
But after 3 years, I'm being informed about this amount. No e-mail or call was made by BT to me for this amount immediately after I vacated the property.
During my tenancy period at that property, it was shared among three people. How I'm expected to get the amount from them if I'm receiving the letter after 3 years.
I've dropped mail to BT and tried to get answer from BT Chat/Call as well as from Debt Solution company, but I still haven't got any answer.
Can I get any help in this forum?

Were you the account holder hence you have received the demand? Are you still a bt customer?

  • SRJ Debt collection claim I owe BT a cancellation ...

I was so pleased to come across this forum via a search for SRJ Debt collectors.  I received a letter from SRJ today asking me to contact them urgently.   Clearly concerned, I called them and have been told that I owe BT just over £35 for cancellation of my phone service.
I moved house in April 2009 and informed BT well in advance of the move that we would no longer require their services.  I had been a customer at the address since July 2005 and was not tied into any package time agreement.
After moving BT contacted at my new address re the final bill which was settled and I eventually received a small refund for overpayment!!
I really could do without all the worry over this.  I know it's not a huge amount, but I have read so may horror stories this morning regarding SRJ.  My fear is that this is the start of endless letters and phone calls to very arrogant and unpleasant individuals, such as the person who took my call this morning.
Is there a BT number that I can call direct, where I can find assistance?
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

My email from one of my email accounts is showing up as "unknown". I think it is linked to my contacts. It is not having this problem in webmail.
    Any suggestions?
Also, now I am showing 260 unread emails for the same account (I may have 10 that are unread).

That is a reflection of what your DHCP server wants your host name to be. Most people just set a custom prompt that keeps the name you want.
