Current BT customer sent to debt collectors for un...

Hi,
Firstly I would like to point out, just so I don't have to repeat myself throughout later, that what I am about to describe can - at best - be described as appalling customer service. At worst it is probably tiptoeing around fraud.
I moved house in January after having a BT phone line at a previous address for 18 months, paying by variable direct debit. However the house that I moved to did not have a phone line connected so the move was pretty painful - BT were not any help here - basically it seemed like the only way to get it done was to apply for a new phone line here. So due to BT's processes, I guess I ended up with two accounts, all for the same person though in my application for this house I gave them my previous house and phone details.
I left the phone line connected at the old house for a couple of months to help the landlord out, and when the new tenants transferred the phone to themselves I was phoned by BT to confirm that I was happy for that to happen. I said it was fine and the last few months had been paid by direct debit as per normal - so I believed that this was the end of it. I was not told at this time that BT were about to charge me for the remaining time on a contract that I never renewed.
Now, 4 months later, I get a phonecall from a debt collection agency chasing money on the old account. I was surprised by this - since the account was paid by direct debit I didn't understand how anything could be outstanding. Its for termination charges, I was told. This surprised me because I had only ever taken out a 12 month contract - I would never had renewed it as I only had another 6 months left on the lease. It is doubly surprising since I am still a BT customer, and rather than telling me they sent it straight to a debt collection agency.
I have notified the debt collection agency that I dispute the charges. However, it is going to take someone from BT to sort this out, so please do. You have already damaged your customer relationship possibly beyond repair by sending me to a debt collectors rather than sending me a bill (I guess it was too much work to check your own customer database first).
Checking through the fine print of  your terms and conditions of one of the extras I had on the phone line, I see you have some ridiculous clauses in there to automatically renew a 12 month contract into another 12 month contract - I am surprised this is legal since effectively you are forcing people into a subsequent contract without their agreement. If that is legal it must be a huge benefit to the other unscrupulous companies out there!!! Anyway it also says that you notify the customers before you do so to give them the opportunity to opt out - I was never notified and indeed this was the first I heard about it. When I first signed up for my phone contract for 12 months there was no such clause and when someone upsold me (by phone) on the friends and family international plan they most definitely did not warn me that I was then forced to buy my phone rental from BT in 1 year blocks.
What I would like is for these - in my view, illegal, but at the very least non-contractual - charges to be removed from my account. I would also like to know what you recommend I can do to protect myself from this kind of unscrupulous business practise in the future.
I look forward to your response
Steve

Hi Steve and welcome
I too have had to discuss this with BT when I noticed that I was automatically signed up for another 12 months without any contract end date / contract renewal notification. They accepted that there had been a 'technical issue' and a note was placed on my file to say that I would not be held to terms of the contract. This was done over the phone but as you have written that you are looking forward to their response then you may wish to email the forum mods - [email protected] - with your account details. Theres a good chance they can sort this out for you.

  • Debt Collectors

Here is a list of event which have left to debt collectors contacting me.
I rang BT to give 30 days notice of moving home.
I get home to find BT has been cut off the same day.
I ring BT to get it reconnected but they tell me I will have to sign up to 12 month contract.
I argue it was BT's fault and they say they will sign me up for a new 12 month contract but there will be no early termination fee.
    I move home.
I call BT and ask to cancel the new account. They try to charge me early termination. I explain it should be no charge and to look at the notes.
BT agree and cancel my contract.
3 months later I receive an email from debt collectors for 0ver 350 pounds (whilst on holiday in USA).
I immediately call BT to resolve this. I wait in queue on my mobile for 15 mins. The operator says he will arrange a call back.
    Call back never happened.
Online chat India were no help and could not understand this long story.
Please could somebody from BT read and understand this message and respond? I'm trying my hardest to sort this out but BT are not making it very easy at all.
    Thank you

  • Debt collectors chasing me for an account that was...

    Hello all,
Received a phone call this afternoon from quite an aggressive lady from a company called Advantis and representing a third party called TDX.  She was quite cryptic at first and started out by asking me for lots of my personal details.  I went along with this for a while then decided I had had enough and I wanted to know what was going on.
She informed me that I owed (either her company or TDX, I'm not 100% sure as I had just woken up) for an outstanding BT bill of £197.  I told her I thought she must have made a mistake but she was not interested and just wanted to talk about payment.  She wasn't even able to give me exact dates or even the reason for the charges but did inform me that she worked for a debt collection agency.
I told her I would commit to nothing until I rang BT.  I got through to the BT call centre about an hour later and was indeed told I had owed broadband and line rental frees from July, August and September 2010 that they having tried to collect from me unsuccessfully had sold onto a collection agency.
I'm not currently a BT customer - I cancelled my last account with them at the end of May 2010 as I was moving house.  I told the call centre advisor this and he admitted that he could see on my account a phone call I made on the 29th May 2010 to cancel my account.  I had at that point paid the following months (June) fees.
However he then informed me that the cancellation had been cancelled!  He did not tell me by who though.  I assumed this was just a minor problem and he would be able to see that my usage (MBs) of the service ceased at the end of May and obviously a mistake had been made cancelling the cancellation.  I never used a phone from this line so it was all just rental and broadband.  He sounded positive that a favourable outcome could be arrived at but he would have to ring me back in 30mins.  Hate these ring back promises as I've been lied to in the past by some BT reps.
He did ring back, after an hour, but did apologise for this so I was happy enough - the conversation started well but then he informed me that the service had been used as he could see data totals for 3 months after I left my address.  I asked him how this was possible as I had moved out of the property and he basically said this was only possible if I had still been living there and using the service.  He basically implied I was lying and would have to pay the bill with the third party.
I have a letter from the company I rented the flat from informing me that I had given notice on the flat in April 2010 and would have to move out at the end of May - If I was still there and using the service I'm sure the new tenants would have spotted me!!!
I was then informed again that this was my debt and he could do nothing for me and I would have to pay it.  I re-iterated that I had left the address at the end of May and asked if there was any possible way this could have happened by accident - he said no the account must have been accessed by me or somebody who knew my password and from my flats landline!  I had never told anyone my password.
The account was finally cancelled after three months of non-payments and I was told they will have tried all ways of contacting me - nobody thought to Email me at my 10 year old BT Internet account though!
He ended the call by saying his manager would ring me in 2 hours time, 3 1/2 hours have passed since then!
From what I have read this seems like a friendly forum - If possible could anyone comment on the following please:
How and why would a cancellation be cancelled?
When investigating this before sending to debt collectors did nobody see the cancellation on my account and notice that my direct debits had been cancelled and think it was a bit odd?
How can my account run up data usage when I no longer lived in the flat or used the router or landline - I had moved 200 miles up the country and was using a Virgin service?
Does this cast doubt on the amounts of data I was being billed for prior to the cancellation, some of my monthly bills were very high?
Is my credit rating now trashed?
Why do BTs overseas call centres only ring back 50% of the time?
Sorry its so long but I wanted to give as much info as I could, hoping for opinions

Nobody from the call centre bothered to ring me back as promised yesterday.
I waited until 12.45 today to ring them again - spent 15 minutes on the phone explaining again to be told the they were having system problems and couldn't help me.
Was again promised a call back - 8 hours later still no call back!
If the debt collectors ring again I'm reporting them to the police and BT to the Office of Fair Trading.
If anyone from BT does read this can I have a job in one of your offshore call centres please - it sounds great, just keep promising callbacks that you never have to make!

  • Debt Collector sent letter to start sending payments directly to Capital One

So I had a judgement a few years ago from an old capital one card, been paying on it since to a debt collector (Hosto and Buchan). The last few months I kept sending a request for a current balance owed on it, but didn't hear from them. Sent a more formal letter the third time with my payment. Well about a week or two ago I got a letter from them stating they were no longer managing my account and to send payments to Capital One (they included a PO box to send it to) and returned my payment I had mailed in for last month.  Seemed kind of odd. So this month's payment is due this week and I was getting ready to send in payment to C1, but thought I'd post here first to see if this throws any red flags up to anyone, or if there's something I should do before just start sending payments in to C1?Thanks!Jen

  • How to debug a Diagnostic Data Adapter (custom data collector) for Microsoft Test Manager

    Hello,
I have created a custom Diagnostic Data Adapter aka. custom data collector for Microsoft Test Manager (MTM) and installed it, all according to the guidelines under  Creating
a Diagnostic Data Adapter to Collect Custom Data or Affect a Test Machine.
I would like to debug my data collector. On which machine should I perform the debugging and to which process should I attach from Visual Studio? Are there any restrictions regarding the user who is running the debug session?
    How can I do that?
    Thank you ,
    Ana

It seems that I found the solution, but I would like someone still to verify if it is the right one.
    Steps:
Turn on "Microsoft Symbol Server" under In Tools-->Options-->Debugging
Restart manually "Visual Studio Lab Agent Service" on the machine where the collector is installed (this actionautomatically restarts the  Visual Studio Test Agent ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\QTAgentService.exe"))
Load code for your collector in Visual Studio
Attach the Visual Studio debugger to the processes QTAgentService.exe and QTDCAgent32.exe
Start test in MTM on client machine using test setting which trigger the data collector (diagnostic data adapter)
and finally hit a brake point in your code...
    Thank you,

There's a pre-release build of the exchange collector available for
    2010, just contact NTS.
If you need a full formal release, we're looking to have 2010 and 2013
    support by approximately mid-year.

  • Lenovo sent less than paid for; cannot get ahold of someone to resolve

I purchased a "25681RU" and received the cheaper product that is no longer listed on the website this week.  My order number is "4242232572."
The current model does not meet the specifications for the device purchased.  I have already customized it with a number of hours spent installing and transferring data.  I require that a technician visit to install the current hard-drive into a properly paid-for system.  Or, I would accept a generous partial refund for the error on the part of Lenovo.
A brief overview of the difference:
I paid for the NVidia with 2GB of RAM.  It has 1GB.
I paid for a device with HDMI IN and OUT.  This has HDMI OUT.
I paid for a device with an IR remote that functions.  This remote does not work.
I have not had a response to emails sent to Websales and my phone attempt ended in a disconnect.
Can someone please assist me with contact information to a person who can resolve the situation.

    Hey derekcentrico,
I have asked a member of our post-sales team to reach out to you. If you have not heard from someone yet, you should receive a call soon.
    Thanks,
    Ty

I'm not sure if I am writing this in the correct area (this is my second attempt at posting a question), but I have a comment about a recent store experience in Sandusky, OH.  I am not a current Verizon customer, but I was visiting friends and we had to go to the store to get something taken care of.  First off, allow me to compliment the nice, new store.  Boy, its changed over the past few years ago when I was in last. My comment is mostly directed to one specific employee.  When we entered the store, we were "welcomed" by a sloppy dressed gentlemen (his clothes were probably two sizes two small), which really struck me as unusual because every other employee in the store was dressed really "casual" with nice sporty clothing and red shoes.  Either way, after being entered into the computer, the gentlemen told me to wander around or have a seat in the back and someone would be with us soon.  As soon as we walked away from the door, the gentlemen handed his "duty" off to another employee who took over welcoming people coming in.  For whatever reason, I felt glued to him as he stood out to me.  After leaving the door, he immediately went to the back of the room, hunched over a cabinet, where he stood for the next 30+ minutes playing on his phone, frowning and not speaking to anyone around him.  Again, I found this unusual because everyone else was overly friendly and smiling.  I finally decided to walk by and see what he was doing.  It appeared that he was texting someone.  He paid no attention to me whatsoever as I walked by, just continued to frown and text on his phone.  I did take not of his name tag for future reference.  His name was Justin.  I am assuming he's the manager of the location as he was just standing around while everyone else worked.  I do understand that managers aren't necessarily doing the "dirty work" of the employees, but he could have at least found some better fitting clothing (I find it hard to believe Verizon doesn't supply it), been a little friendly, pretended to be busy, and not been texting the entire time we were there.  Again, the store was great, the other employees were very helpful, but the manager seemed to be doing is own little thing and it didn't put off a good image for the rest of the store.  Just wanted to share my comments.

  • Abolish product cost collector for production order

    Dear Experts,
we use for some production order types the product cost collector. Now we plan to abolish them and change the settlement for production order. Which things do we have to pay attention? Do we have to finish our running production orders first or is it possible to change customizing during running production process. Thanks for your hepl!
    Best regards
    Steffen

    Hi Ajay,
    thank you for your answer.
    We have tested two variants:
    1. new order type, so we can process two separate settlements, for orders with PCC and the new orders without PCC. After archiving of all prodorders with pcc, archiving of pcc it should be possible to switch back to old order type.
    2. change customizing without finishing existing orders, settlement for existing orders, all orders which already have been processed will be settled by pcc (status pcc usage in order header) We have not be seen any strange system behavior.
We use the pcc collector for different order types in different plants and want to abolish plant by plant. In this time the pcc will still be customized/exists.
    Best regards

    Environment:

Current issue with Audit Vault collector for SQL server is that it is not giving PSFT login ID instead it is giving Peoplesoft DB service Account ID.
Is this expected ?. If yes, what is the workaround ? Can Database Firewall is a best option to capture PSFT login ID ?

    Hmm....
Well I'm not sure we have quite enough information yet to really help
you. That said, there are some basic things we can check:
    1) Are you saying that you are seeing this error with a completely
unmodified Collector, e.g. you ran the "Create New Collector Plug-in"
Ant task, then immediately built and deployed the result?
    2) Are you using the 'stable' SDK or the SVN-based 'current' branch?
Also, I'm not clear what you're saying about the this.read bit, but the
    line that states:
    record.connectorData = getData(5);
(which is in the Connector.read() method) is where the Collector
fetches the next record from the Connector. You should note that if no
data is retrieved, you'll basically get an empty record. If you try to
do any parsing on that data, you can run into problems because the
variable you are trying to operate on don't exist.
By this I mean that if rec.s_RXBufferString doesn't exist (e.g. you got
a null record from the Connector), but you try to do:
    this.s_RXBufferString.substr(5,8);
you'll get an error like "method substr() is undefined" or something.
Also I should note that if your Collector is pausing at the getData()
line, that probably means that your device isn't actually sending any
records - check using a Raw Data Tap on the Event Source.

  • IS THIS LEGAL?? Original Creditor listed as the Debt Collector instead of Capital One!!

I just checked Quizzle and I know that the scores are FAKO scores, but I was really checking the credit reports. I had to fill out a form to send in for my husband's and my reports as they will not allow us to pull online.  Anyway I found this!
Is is legal for Capital One to list PR as the original creditor??? We never signed any paperwork with PR!! They are the debt collector on my and my husband's reports!!

I would speculate that it is an error on the part of the party who produced the credit report rather than an inaccuracy of reporting to your credit file. The substance is unaltered... you have one OC and one debt collector.Assertion of "illegality" would be based on an assertion that they have intentionally misreported inaccurate information.I see no basis for making such an assertion.

  • Trouble with ADFS: SAML tokens sent with missing attribute for most test users

About two months ago, I set up an ADFS server to authenticate our users for another agency's website. I granted three users access to the website (by adding them to specific combinations of AD groups), and everything seemed to be working quite well. Then last week, my boss asked me to add another user to the required groups to grant them access. I did so, and he called me back about 30 minutes later to say that the newly authorized user was unable to access the website. After entering his credentials, he receives a 'webpage cannot be displayed' error. I have since added several other users, with mixed results: a few can log in with no issue, but most receive the same error.
After corresponding with the other agency (a torturously slow process), they sent me SAML responses for two of our test users: one working, one failing. The SAML...

  • Custom number in download history for subscription buttons

Ive emailed support about this but think it will be valuable to include here as well since i have not seen a solution. We currently use hosted buttons for recurring payments with the "custom" property set to our internal customer number. We set the custom value dynamically based on the current user. This all works perfectly and paypal correctly informs our back end via ipn of the the customer that has made a purchase.
The issue we have is that the "custom" field value does not appear in the paypal transaction history logs as specified here under the "custom number" column.https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/admin/download-history/ --------------------------------------------
    Field Name : Custom Number
Description: Specified by seller in any of the following button-creation fields:
    PayPal Shopping Cart Custom Number
    Buy Now Custom Number
    Subscription Custom Number
    Format: alphanumeric
    Payment Button Variable: custom
    Related IPN Variable: custom
we desperately need every line in the transaction log to contain the custom value for each subscription so that we can tie transactions to customers.

UPDATE, Recieved a reply from technical support saying that this is intended behaviour.  "Kindly be informed that it is an intended behavior that the value passed in custom variable will not reflect in transaction history but can only be seen via IPN. My sincere apologies for the inconveniences caused but that is how it works." I dont quite understand this when developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/admin/download-history/ explicitly states that this field IS available in the the report AND I can confirm it works for other button types.
    Custom Number
Specified by seller in any of the following button-creation fields:
    PayPal Shopping Cart Custom Number
    Buy Now Custom Number
    Subscription Custom Number
