SRJ Debt collection claim I owe BT a cancellation ...

I was so pleased to come across this forum via a search for SRJ Debt collectors.  I received a letter from SRJ today asking me to contact them urgently.   Clearly concerned, I called them and have been told that I owe BT just over £35 for cancellation of my phone service.
I moved house in April 2009 and informed BT well in advance of the move that we would no longer require their services.  I had been a customer at the address since July 2005 and was not tied into any package time agreement.
After moving BT contacted at my new address re the final bill which was settled and I eventually received a small refund for overpayment!!
I really could do without all the worry over this.  I know it's not a huge amount, but I have read so may horror stories this morning regarding SRJ.  My fear is that this is the start of endless letters and phone calls to very arrogant and unpleasant individuals, such as the person who took my call this morning.
Is there a BT number that I can call direct, where I can find assistance?
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

  • Unknown Charge Sent to Debt Collection

    * 1st incident *
November 2012, I purchased a verizon galaxy s3. Upon buying it, I tried to keep my older number. They said even though my contact was ended, because the number was added to a family share plan it was re-instated on that contract with that phone, and I would need a new number. So I payed the $350 for the phone and the $130 for the activation fee. I asked if everything is payed and okay now. They said yes and you won't get your 1st bill till the end of the month. I got a letter at the end of the month saying I am charged a late fee of $15 for not paying the 1st month, and I owe 1st month and 2nd month. I sighed and paid it since I didn't have time to dispute such things.
    * 2nd incident *
Saturday, I get a letter from a debt collection agency saying I owe verizon $13.02 (ruining my perfect credit score). Upon receiving this letter (March 02) it says if I do not disput it within 30 days of January 17th, I will automatically be pleeding guilty. When I call verizon to ask if this was some sort of phishing attack, they said it was over an account I closed a year ago and it is real. When I closed the account (regarding a USB Modem) the balance was $0. I asked them if there would be any fee's in the future I would have to pay (knowing verizon), and they said "no, your balance is $0 and the account is closed". Back to today on the phone conversation, the lady said they cannot check why I owe the the $13.02 or what it is for, and I need to call the billing agency. She gave me a number, and said they are only open Monday-Friday 8am-6pm (hours I work 8am - 10pm). She said to take time off work to make the call to find out what is going on. So I am going to have to take the day off work knowing that dealing with such issues with verizon over the phone can take 2-3 hours. I'm so frustrated I don't know what to do about this. I don't mind paying the fee, it's having a dent in my perfect credit score because verizon fails to notify me of some mysterious charge that shows up, and just sends it off to the debt collection agency.

Okay so I just spoke with a lady over the phone that made it kind of confusing in the explanation. Basically the bill was charged for the advanced month that wouldn't show up till the next bill cycle (even after closing my account). Since the advanced month had a 0 usage the bill was pro-rated to $13.02. I made the payment, and she said it will take 24 - 48 hours before the collections is notified. I will be calling them in 3 days to ensure that this will not be reported on my credit record, as well as checking my credit history to look for a dent in the made payments. If it shows up then I'm going to have to dispute that as I never received any notice that I needed to pay that fee.

  • SRJ DEBT LETTER????

I recieved a letter from SRJ claiming i owe them alot of money..... £545.38 to be exact!
I was a bit wary at first when they wanted me to contact them and give details of a personal nature. Why would i give my address, date of birth etc to them to clarify who i am??? who are you more like???
I recieved a phone call from them a week later asking me details,of which i was unwilling to give.I am very wary due to the kind of people there are in the world today.eventually they gave me enough details to make me believe who they were, so the conversation started.
They said they had tracked my new address and the outstanding bill is from BT for the above amount, since we have moved house.
When we moved house, the first thing i did was make a list of who to contact and BT was one of the top ones on my list. They needed my old address, new address, account number etc and they had every bit of information they asked me for. This was in the beginning of February 2011,we moved mid feb (min 5 days notice needed). Our contract was due to expire in march 2011.
When we moved,we found that we could get a better deal with another provider for phone,tv and broadband,so we had given the notice to end the contract and after march 2011 we would no longer be under any contract with BT,hence the last payment being in March 2011.
I have been in contact with somebody at BT this week (12-12-11), and they said that yes there is a bill outstanding that needs to be paid. When i asked what it was for, they said for ceased payments from march this year and that the contract ended in October 2011.How can it be in contract when it ended in march? I asked what the charges were and he said for calls and ceased payments and cancellation fees.
Since looking into this further, and having had NO CONTACT via letter, email, telephone etc,of which they could have done,we have found some very interesting things.
    1)  my mail was redirected until august this year.
    2)  after logging into what i thought was a closed account since march, there appears to be significant phone usage in April-     June 2011,when we moved out in Mid Feb 2011.
    3)  How did BT let it slip through the net when they were clearly informed of our new address details?? we now have a
whacking great big bill for something we weren't even there to run up!!!!
    4)  I was told BT needed 2 weeks notice to connect in our new house, hence us looking for other deals in the meantime.
    5)  The contract for our broadband and calls was due to end on 22-3-11 and if we wanted it in our house, the new contract would start on 25-2-11 after we'd moved in and we had until 12pm on 24th feb to cancel it if we didn't want to continue with BT.We DIDN'T want to continue with BT,so WE DID RING AND CANCEL. Clearly there seems to have been some problem with them actually putting what i was telling them in the computer system, hence me getting a bill that someone else has run up.
I would like any help and advice as to what to do next. We will take this further.Who has £545.38 lying around to pay off someone elses bill? IF I OWE ANYBODY MONEY,I PAY IT!! but i am not paying for this bill!!

    Hi sal.
The only people here who can help you with looking into this are the forum mods.
If you fill in this form: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951 with a link back to your post for ref, the mods will get back to you. It can take up to 3 days ( sometimes longer in busy periods), and they will contact you direct via phone or email.
I will say whatever cancellation charges you had and might disagree with, if you had broadband and did not request a MAC code to move to another ISP, then there would at least be a £30 cease charge for broadband, if nothing else..
Also was it an 18mth contract or 12 mth
Anyway, like I said, get in touch with the mods and see what they say.

  • BT Wifi debt collection email.

So a year or two ago I had a BT Wifi package for my old accomodation. I kept used it often and regulary and kept up with all the bills and payments.
I moved house and had no use of it anymore, but still kept up with payments. But at one point I got an email saying I had missed a payment, even though I had the funds in the account for them to take (It was setup as a direct debit), a day later I got another email pretty much saying 'Fine, we have canceled this service. Done.' Which I was happy with because as I said I didnt need it.
Now over a year later, I just purchased a BT internet package last week, and today I got an email from a debt collection agency asking for money from BT. It goes into no details or anything, just to pay up £150. My best guess is this is because 'THEY' ended my contract early, not myself. Obviously I moved house, and they deleted the account anyway to access it, so I was oblivious to this because I got no emails, letters and couldnt login to check (No reason why I would though)
I was also in the process of talking with support about swapping to a full BT package at no extra cost before they randomly decided to delete my account.
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do, or if even just to ignore it?

  • Chase to pay $166 million forr shoddy & illegal debt collection

now seems like a good time to request an update on my report. i paid every penny to this money grubbing bank and they did not report like they said they would. i entered a hardship plan and was promised it would say closed by consumer which they did not do. they also have my highest balance listed as over credit limit which is a 15 point killer seems kind of unfair since they took away the fee's that brought my balance up that high. i never spent over my limit. they revised it once on one report but when i requested the consumer dispute comment be removed someone it got added back. three lates in 8 years but still counts as a negative acct even though it's paid in full. glad to see someone is doing something about these big greedy dishonest banks.

  • Harassed by debt collection company for Verizon account I don't even own

I've been receiving letters from Debt Recovery Solutions claiming that I owe Verizon Southwest $292.69 for cable/cellular service. I don't even use Verizon for cable/cell, only internet and I've never missed a bill. And the account number they referenced is not even mine. Worst of all they reported this as a deliquent account and is negatively affecting my credit score, lowering it by almost 100 points. Anyone experienced this before? Do I need to get a lawyer to resolve this?

    Hi elunic0,

  • COMPLAINT - Debt Collection from Pastdue Credit So...

    Hi,
I've received a letter from Pastdue Credit Solutions stating that I've outstanding BT Bill of £156.41 for property which I vacated in Oct, 2010.
As far as I know, before vacating the property, I contacted  BT and paid all the outstanding amount.
But after 3 years, I'm being informed about this amount. No e-mail or call was made by BT to me for this amount immediately after I vacated the property.
During my tenancy period at that property, it was shared among three people. How I'm expected to get the amount from them if I'm receiving the letter after 3 years.
I've dropped mail to BT and tried to get answer from BT Chat/Call as well as from Debt Solution company, but I still haven't got any answer.
Can I get any help in this forum?

Were you the account holder hence you have received the demand? Are you still a bt customer?

  • Debt Collection

due to a change in circumstances i couldnt pay my bill and have been passed to debt collectors luckily i have a new job and plan on paying end of the month will my phone come back on and be ready to use as its now completely dead?

Hi, you will need to make at least a part payment before they activate your mobile again.
    EE T&C
    Interim payments
If you need to make an interim payment (for example, if there's a bar on the account), you can pay the total amount of your bill (your outstanding balance) or you can pay just one part of your bill.
In both cases you need to make the payment at least five days before the date of your Direct Debit to avoid double payments.
    Hope this helps

  • Debt recovery on moved broadband with BT (Current ...

    Small history:
Signed up with BT broadband some 3,5 years ago, As well as a phone line. About 1,5 year later, we moved address not to far from the old one, and thus called BT to have our phone and broadband moved to the new address.
I asked weather this was a problem, as we had run the course on our contract, and they didn't give any warning signs as to us moving to a new address.
As we held on to the old apartment for 2 months after moving to the new, not long after, they contacted us regarding an outstanding bill at that old address, and I asked how that was possible since we were now installed at a new address and paying for both broadband and phone there, and also why I was told that it would be closed, with no charges, when moving into a new address. One phone call later they were happy that to inform us, that it was a mistake, and the charges would be removed, we assumed that was the end of it, and continued to this day, with BT.
Now this morning, we received a letter from a Debt recover agency called SRJ. They claim we owe BT 150 pounds in outstanding charges for BT broadband at our old address. To be sure after calling them, talking to some person claiming this and that, not to mention the threats, I went to try and call BT and ask them what they possibly have going on here. Got India, and got disconnected (Will try to get an English number for billing if it exists) no surprise there (Anyone got a number to English "service" ?)
So, apart from the fact that I don't believe one second, that after 2 years, they suddenly pop out, with no warning to collect money, that we never owed them in the first place, as all bills have been and always was pay'ed. Any suggestions and or experience with similar claims would be appreciated.
    Cheers, Mac,

    Update.
About 2:30 into calling BT, and 2 wireless phones with dead batteries later, on the 4 call, I managed to get through to the correct department for billing in the UK. Spoke with a very nice lady, who promised that they would call of the debt recovery, until the matter had been sorted, and is now being looked into, with a firm promised that she would call me back within the day, to see what they can recover.
As this is on the old account system, they seem to be having trouble accessing the details, but I did manage to attain, that they believe to have somehow transferred back a valid payment of our broadband, to our account, thus missing a payment from May 2009.
This brings me back to the fact, that our broadband contract at the old address ended in January or February 2009 and we took over the new address from 2nd of march 2009. I even have a letter from the 26 February stating that they are happy to confirm the renewal of our old contract, which makes no sense, and probably where the fault lies, as I remember calling them asking why they are renewing our old contract when, we in fact, just asked them to move the broadband to our new address a week later. This is where they returned payment we made via direct debit probably around may 2009 where that bill would have been due.
Going to check into our accounts, if they date back that far to see what has been payed and what was returned and when. Might shed some light on this rather odd occurrence.

  • Change of ownership of a customer site in SAP

    Hi
By change of ownership, we're talking about a customer site (physical outlet/store) changing owners from Owner A to Owner B. Owner A and Owner B can be totally different customers with different Payer details.
Currently we are creating a new Sold-To for Owner B and then making the old Sold-To (owner A) "inactive" which has led to a bit of a mess. We'd like to avoid having to create a new Sold-To each time a change of ownership occurs.
One option we're considering is to update the existing Sold-To account (for the phsyical outlet/store i.e Owner A) with the details of Owner B but create an Ex-Payer account (i.e dummy payer account that is no longer linked to the Sold-To) for Owner A and a separate Payer account for owner B that is linked to the Sold-To. This way we can manage debt collection/claims on the old owner through the Ex-Payer account and manage payments /invoices for new orders on Payer account for owner B.
What other options are available to us?
Can we use the Head Office / Branch concept in some way to deal with the above mentioned change of ownership scenario?
What is the best practice way of handling a change of ownership of a physical outlet (sold-To) in SAP ?
Are there articles that deal with Change of Ownership and / or Head office-Branch concept that we could read up on?
Any help or ideas on the above would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    Trevor

    Hi
This is an interesting scenario. Creating a new customer and leaving old one as orphan doesn't sound a good idea. What you have shared is the best approach I think. You are creating new Payer and assigning that to existing sold to party and changing the name address etc of that sold to party is the good approach. With this you could have financial information of old owner separately and you can start new business with new owner.
Head office and branch customer is not for this purpose. That is something else which you may have already read that. Thats kind of parent child relation but in your case your ownership is changing so I think you are already doing good.
    Thank$

  • BT claiming charges that I do not owe! community h...

    Hello there,
I took out a broadband contract with BT mid last year. Just before Christmas I moved address which already had broadband so need to cancel my contract. BT informed me there would be a fee so I asked if there was anyway around this fee as it was a quite astonishing fee. The lady said that there was a way she could think off! Brilliant. If I transfer the acount into another flat mates name they can take over the contract and I wouldnt need to pay.
Just recently I have phone calls from debt collection agencys sayin I owe BT about 250, around 200 cancellation fees and 50 late payment fee for not paying the cancellation fee right away! I never got any bill through the post because I moved address and they dont have my current address.
No one ever called me to tell me this and I got them to listen to the old conversations that I had and they claim that the person I spoke to didnt say this and that a transfer of acount doesnt exsist within' BT's system. To get a copy of the phone calls they are charging £10 a call and back then it took me about 5 calls to transfer the acount, so I cant even have a listen myself!
Does anyone have any advice of what to do in this situation, or any idea of organisation that can help you with big corprate companies trying to money grab?
Any advice would be much appreciated, thank. Daniel Hayball

There is no way to transfer an account unless you are moving home, and want to take your broadband with you.
As you entered into a contract, BT are entitled to hold you to it.

  • CBE collections debt, or phishing scam?

    Hello,
I've been a verizon customer since 2006.  I've kept the same number, but switched plans twice (from family to individual a couple years ago, and from individual to prepaid very recently).  About a month after switching to prepaid, I started getting calls (up to three times a day) from CBE collections group about an outstanding debt from verizon wireless of ~ $35.00.  I've always paid my bills online, using autopay.  When I checked my online account (which I've had for years), my balance was zero.  I've been to both of the local stores, and both told me as far as they could see, my account balance was zero and in good standing.  I've called verizon probably half a dozen times (with hold times up to an hour and multiple dropped calls), and talked to both customer care and financial services.  Everyone has been very confused, and told me my account is in good standing, and I owe verizon nothing, and they didn't know how to help me.  The most recent customer care rep actually told me with certainty that this sounded like a scam to her, and I should block the numbers and report it to the police.
When I've talked to CBE collections, they've told me they can't give me any kind of verification unless I give them my verizon account payment password (!!!).  However, they assure me that they are 'not a scam'.
Given my recent plan switch and the fact that CBE collections has a partnership with Verizon, I'm 90% convinced this is actually a legitimate bill that is being handled very badly.  I hope it's in fact a phishing scam-- if it's real, I am extremely angry about how it's been handled. I am very seriously considering changing providers.
Under the circumstances, I am hesitant to pay CBE without some kind of verification from Verizon.  How do I go about getting a written verification that this is a legitimate debt, when customer care has no information?  If it's not, how do I get a written verification that I can use to challenge any damage that CBE has done to my credit score?

CBE Group - Debt Collection Solutions
They are a legit company. But I would not give any account password or social security numbers or verify anything with them.
They could be zombie debt collectors or collectors that have no right to your Verizon account.

  • Attempt to collect old CC debt? Scam?

I received a call at work today from and Uknown on my caller ID. First I didn't answer, they kept calling. Finally I answered and he asked if I was who he was looking for and to verify my last 4 of social. I verified and he stated he was trying to deliver a summons. He was trying to deliver to my old address and said this was his 2nd attempt. I asked what it was for and he said it was sealed and for my eyes only. He gave me a docket number, a phone number and name of a person to contact. I said I would like to get more information before saying anything further. He said he had until 2:30 to deliver and it no stop order was placed on it, he would try again. I never gave him any information or admitted anything. Didn't give new address either. I did some searching and number was based out of sheboygan, milwaukee Wisconsin. Didn't trace back to a law firm or any collection agencies. Also tried googling the name and couldn't find anything on him. (the number was 920-287-0911) So I called the number and it sounded like it was a call center. Was told they weren't sure if Henry Weinsteene? (pronounced Wine-Steen) was in or not. They had to verify again it was me that was calling. I was then placed on hold for awhile then somebody else answered and had me verify it was me once again. Completely different person this time. I was told he had to let me know that this conversation was being recorded for, forgot waht he said exactly, and it would be used as evidence. He told me it was a charge that had been sent to the legal department and something about letters was said. I was told it was for an old Chase-Circuit City account that I had opened that was currently at 5k and some change. He then said it looks like it was tried to settle for 3k and then asked," How come I never attempted to pay it?" Something along those lines, but before he finished I just hung up on him. So all I did was verified it was me and I said OK after he told me his whole schpeel. After I said Ok and before I hung up is when he asked me about the 3k settlement I stated earlier. I believe I also received a 1099-C from, for cancellation of debt, on this account. I'm not sure if that relevant or not. Is this a big scam? is it legit? I have no idea and I don't want to investigate this further and have it bite me in the backside.  My state statute of limitations is 6 years on open-ended accounts (credit cards) I never made any partials and I ever admitted to owning the debt personally. Sorry for the long post. I'm just trying to get this figured out without making things bad for myself. If it helps I received phone calls similar to this a couple years back for a Kays account then I basically ignored and nothing ever happened.  Below is a picture of the TL from my report. Transunion  Equifax

It sounds like they are collecting on "zombie" debt, past the SOL. Many CA's call and threaten legal action, wage garnishment, etc to intimidate you into making a payment thus effectively resetting the SOL back to 0 days. Keep in mind when they threaten "legal action"; the CA rep having a cup of coffee is "legal action", sending you another letter is "legal action", if they threaten to "sue" you then you have solid grounds for an FDCPA claim against the CA based on the fact that they told you they would take an action against you that they do not intend to carry out based on the SOL period being expired I did this not long ago, next time they call get their name and mailing address, give them a verbal Cease and Desist then follow up with a written CMRRR C&D. The CA is allowed to contact you one more time to say they received your C&D and debt collection will cease. Anymore calls from them and it's an easy $1k in your pocket for FDCPA violation. It's worth to note that Chase was recently fined $136 million by the CFPB. Chase is supposed to stop collecting on 528,000 accounts, yours may be one of those, here's the link: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/newsroom/cfpb-47-states-and-d-c-take-action-against-jpmorgan-chase-for-selling-bad-credit-card-debt-and-robo-signing-court-documents/
