"unsigned char** pImgData" How to call in LabVIEW

HI,
I am calling a DLL in LabVIEW8.5 by using "Call Library Function Node".
I can able to access all the functions and getting exact results.
But for the below function LabVIEW is crashing.
void SFCCU_GET_IMG_RAW_DATA(unsigned long *length,unsigned char** pImgData,unsigned int iCamObj)
According to the doccumentation of the dll provided, pImgData is 1D array.
I tried the same dll in VC++. I can able to acheive the result of he above function properly.
I attached the Call Library Function Node.vi's prototype with this mail what i have done. It seems to be correct.
But i dont know why its crashing. Please tell me wether i am calling properly or not.
if not, kindly suggest me how to overcome it.
Thanks in advance for the help,
Please help me,
Thanks,
Sams.

Hi Sams,
Can you clarify what you mean by crash? Can you describe what happens? Do you get an error message? Is there anything different in how you are calling the function in LabVIEW versus VC++?
I look forward to your reply to help move this issue forward.

  • Calling a dll that has an unsigned char, unsigned char * in a function call

    I have a dll that has the following function that I am trying to call from LabView
     GetAvailableData( unsigned short * Num1,   unsigned short * pList,   unsigned short in,   unsigned short * ip  )
    In this, the second parameter is an output. When I use call library function node, I  use the second arg to create an indicator. When I run this program, I see the return value to be zero.
     I use the following for arg2:
    Name: arg2
    Type: Numeric
    Data type: 16bit Integer
    Pass: Pointer to value
    Any help is appreciated.

    dinks-
               Just some janitorial work first: when posting try and keep the spaces between lines to a minimal. Empty spaces just means less memory somewhere. To your question, I think some clarification is needed. Tell me if this is right, you have a dll that you are calling into LabVIEW using Call Library Function node and then trying to get this unassigned character.
     Yes. That is correct.
    It returns 0 but it should be giving something else (what should it be returning?). Are you getting any errors running this or you are just not getting the expected value back? Thanks for the clairfication!!
    Thanks for the response. I think there are lot of nitty gritty details when calling a c++ dll from LabView that I need to learn. The unsigned char problem is solved when I modified the output to Array in Labview.
    I have issues using C++ functions that return a bool value.
    The other problem is with C++ functions that return a HANDLE.
    In the first case where the return value is bool, I assigned the return value in LabView to  Signed 32 bit integer when I call this function,  the return bool value is some large number always irrespective of the C++ bool value (true or false).
    For the second case (return type HANDLE), I assume, I should specify the return value as signed 32 bit integer in the configure option of call library function node. I tried that and it returns the same value. The dll returns non zero if my hardware that I am interfacing with is found. If it doesn't find the hardware, the return HANDLE is 0. The Labview program returns the same value if I enable the hardware or disable the hardware.
    I am following the  Call DLL.vi example for using various data types in C++.
    Really appreciate your help.

  • How to call a labview dll from excel-VBA?

    How to call a simple Labview DLL from Excel VBA?
    I have seen examples of DLL calls from VB but does it work the same way for VBA? I have 2000 excel and Labview 8.5. I created the DLL and tried to call it from VBA using the same type of code as in NI's website example(ofcourse its a bit diff with 8.5)
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/...
    BUT it errors out when called from excel
    ERROR: The object invoked has disconnected from its client

    You would need to provide more details about the LabVIEW DLL, such as the prototypes of the functions (VIs) that you're trying to call, and your actual VBA code. Specifically, what object you're trying to create. You should also make sure the Run-Time Enginer is installed, as well as any required libraries such as the VISA Run-Time if you're using VISA. Have you made sure to enable the ActiveX server for the DLL?

  • Anyone know how to call a Labview dialog without the splash sceen popping up?

    Has anyone had success with the workarounds for the problems with the Labview splash screen and not being able to click on the Labview dialog? I've attached a simple sequence file to demonstrate the problem. If I use the "make modal" vi's, that seems to solve the mouse click problems, with the annoying side effect of the front panel popping up. I haven't found a solution for the splash screen yet. See the links below for background on these problems.

    Hi Mark,
    I've tried your examples and it looks like the only solution would be to junk the labview dialog functions (for the time being) and create your own dialog vi. If you make it connector compatible with the labview functions then you can easily replace it when NI have fix the problem.

  • How to call Labview DLL from VB2005

    Dear all expert,
    I'm a student and very new in Labview programming.
    Currently i have build a simple vi and need to convert it to dll so that i can call it from my VB.net. But the problem is how to call the labview dll from my VB.net?
    I know we must declare function something like this,
    Auto function Bodeplot Lib"..\\Bodeplot.dll" (Byval Val1 as double, Byval Val2 as double,...) as double
    but how to determine Val1, Val2 (and so on) is input for which data?  if my vi have 10 input (frequency, Kc,Fcz,Fcp,Wzrhp,Wp,k,Wz,Beta and Operation) ? and how to select the output (my application have 3 possible output : magnitup loop,phase loop, and degree loop)
    In addition, since I'm using Labview 8.0 , and as i know apllication  builder for this version cannot convert vi to dll which contain Mathscript (but unfortunely, my vi all use Mathscript), so really hope someone can help me to convert my vi to dll using Labview 8.2 (which remove this limitation).
    here I'm attach my Vi and really hope someone willing to help.
    Thank you.

    If you insist on using Labview with your project then you should
    consider using ActveX in place of using a dynamic link library to
    interface to your VB.net code. You don't need "Application Builder"
    if you use ActiveX. The Student, Basic and Full development versions
    of Labview for Windows come with ActiveX capability. For more
    information on ActiveX look up the subject ActiveX in Labview's Help
    File.

  • JNI equivalent of an unsigned char *

    Hi,
    I have a String in Java that needs to be passed to a predefined C library routine. The routine's signature is
    master(unsigned char *).
    How do I pass this string so that the routine can process it.I tried passing it as a jbyte array from java , the compilation and stuff does not fail but , my routine is returning an error because it is not able to read the data.
    Thanks in advance.

    I'm sorry , I'm not sure if I understand this correctly,
    if my method signature in my C file is
    JNIEXPORT jint JNICALL Java_reflexis_bac_validation_wrapper_Validate_MY_1FPI_1Master
    (JNIEnv * env, jobject methodObj, jlong instance, jbyteArray liveTemp, jbyteArray masterTemp, jobject xtraInfo){}
    where I have a jbyteArray type of variable. Now I need to pass this variable to a C method whose signature is
    int FPI_EXPORT FPI_Match( LPFPIINSTANCE lpInst,
                        USHORT wMatchingStrict,
                             UCHAR *lpLiveTemplate,
                             UCHAR *lpMaster,
                        LPFPI_MATCHINFO lpResults )
    So are you saying I have to convert the jbyteArray to an unsigned char string . How do I do that?

  • How can I get an unsigned char string with nulls from a dll into LabVIEW 6i?

    The following ethernet packet data is contained in an unsigned char * string returned from my dll (it's formatted on printing):
    Received A 230 Packet On Adapter 0x008F0070
    Ethernet Dest: 01.E0.BB.00.00.15 Src: 00.E0.BB.00.DD.CC Type: 0x8868
    000000: 01 E0 BB 00 00 15 00 E0 : BB 00 DD CC 88 68 48 41 .............hHA

    000020: 01 00 F0 18 FF 7F 7F FF : FF 7F 7F FF FF 7F 7F FF ................etc., etc.
    However, when I read this string into LabVIEW 6i, I only get the following:
    01E0 BB
    Which is the data before the first NULL or 00 information. I found a "Remove Unprintable Chars.vi" but it
    just sees more data before the above string, nothing after, as seen here: 5C30 31E0 BB.
    Anybody have any suggestions for how to get the rest of the string? Is there something I can do to further reformat my dll? The dll I'm using is already a wrapper around another dll so I have some flexibility, but the bottom line is, the data I want is in the format of an unsigned char *.

    Excellent advice, this mostly works so I have some further questions:
    I am just reading network traffic off my ethernet card right now, but here is what I get using my C program to test:

    0000E0: FE FF FF FF 00 01 : ................
    And here is what I get using LabVIEW to call the dll:
    0015 00E0 BB00 DDCC 8868 4841 00E0 BB00 DDCC 80B3 0000 FFFF 0002 0001 0100 9600 7F7F 7F7E 7F7F 7F7F 7F7F 7F7F 7F7F 7F00 B405 4300 3300 0000 0000 0000 01E0 BB00 0015 00E0 BB00 DDCC 8868 4841 00E0 BB00 DDCC 80B3 0000 FFFF 0002 0001 0100 9600 7F7F 7F7E 7F7F 7F7F 7F7F 7F7F 7F7F 7F00 F405 1B04 0C04 0000 0000 0000 8000 0000 0000 0000 0800 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000
    The first thing I notice is that the first 4 bytes are chopped off, and after about 50 bytes, the data is corrupted until the sequence starts to repeat, but this time it starts with the missing 4 bytes and still corrupts after about 55 bytes.
    I am expecting the data in LabVIEW to look very similar to the C data because the network packets I am grabbing are pretty consistant, only a couple bytes will vary between them, not the number I am seeing in LabVIEW.
    Another side effect I'm seeing is that I can only run my labVIEW code once, if I try running it again it crashes with failures such as:
    memory could not be "read"
    For reference, I am opening and closing the network adapter inside the read function of my dll, but the pointer seems like it should be intact...

    You don't. This is the callback protoype that would be passed as parameter to another API and as such never will be called by the caller of that API but instead be provided by that caller!
    And LabVIEW does not support function pointers at all, so you really can't do this.
    The only solution is to write a wrapper function in your DLL or in a separate DLL that translates between this interface and some more event oriented LabVIEW functionality such as user events, but unless you do know C to a fairly good level, you should probably leave that to someone else.

  • How to display error messages and output from Matlab (which Matlab would typically send to its command window but no longer does when called by Labview) into Labview or allow it to be dumped into Matlab Command Window?

    Using Labview 6i and Matlab 6.1. I want to be able to see Matlab warnings and error messages either in the Matlab Command Window or in Labview itself. Currently Matlab is called by Labview (which is working). However I would like to debug and/or modify my Matlab script file to better understand how the two programs are interfacing. It is difficult since no data or messages can be displayed currently to the Matlab command window. I would like to change that if it is possible - Labview is suppressing that from happening. If not possible to send these
    messages to Matlab Command Window can I make it at least possible to see Matlab's actual warnings and/or error messages in Labview?

    I don't think you can debug your Matlab script from labVIEW. The following webpage talks about this:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/3efedde4322fef19862567740067f3cc/19106e318c476e608625670b005bd288?OpenDocument
    My suggestion would be to write a script in Matlab and thoroughly test it before calling the script from a Matlab script node in LabVIEW.

  • How do I call a LabView VI via dll to display its control panel in a tab of my uir in LabWindows

    Hi User Community,
    I am trying to build a LabWindows Top Level Control Panel to call individual LabView VI's, which have been compiled into a dll.
    I have no problem using the CmtScheduleThreadPoolFunction to start a new thread that calls these VI's however, I'm having trouble trying to get the display that comes up in it's own window to display in a tab of my existing UIR.
    I've compiled the DLLs to always display the VI Control Panel window when running - and usually it covers the whole screen you can't see the LabWindows window until the VI completes.
    Is there a definitive guide to LabWindows Windows/Panels/Tabs? Or does anyone have experience with this? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,
    I would suggest reviewing the Programming with Panels and Programming with Tabs CVI Help documents.  I think that this can be done with the LoadPanelEx function.  Let me know how it goes!
    As well, I found some example code to get you started.

  • How to map C/C++ unsigned char[] to Java

    hi all,
    I'm using w2k OS.
    Given that C code:
    BYTE *fBuf;
    fBuf = new BYTE[256];
    Is there anyone of you know how to pass/map the unsigned char to java?
    regards
    elvis

    why did you classify this as byte? how do you did
    that?They probably guessed. It is probably a good guess.
    You can use the following to determine the size exactly.
    First determine what "BYTE" is exactly. You will have to find that in an include file somewhere. Your IDE might do this for you automatically.
    So, for example you might find the following...
    typedef unsigned char BYTE;
    So then you would know that the type is actually "unsigned char".
    Once you have this information you then look in limits.h (this is an ANSI C/C++ file so it will exist somewhere.) In it you find the "..._BIT" that corresponds to the type. For the type given above you would be looking for "CHAR_BIT" (because unsigned and signed chars are the same size.)
    On my system that would be...
    #define CHAR_BIT 8
    That tells you that there are 8 bits in the BYTE value. So now you need to find a java type that also has at least 8 bits. And the java "byte" value does.

    I also had this problem.  My application is unicode-aware, but I was attempting to link it to a library with primitive C-string arguments.  You could dynamically load the DLL as suggested (more work), modify the header files (really not recommended), or if you are feeling lucky you could try fooling the compiler, as I was successfully able to do in Visual Studio 2010, by steering the preprocessor around those functions (assuming you're not using them, of course -- otherwise this probably wouldn't work):
    // prepare for NI extcode.h inclusion. avoid linker errors for this project.
    #define StrCatW(a,b)     IgnoreLinkError_StrCatW(a,b);
    #define StrCpyW(a,b)     IgnoreLinkError_StrCpyW(a,b);
    #define StrCpyNW(a,b,c)  IgnoreLinkError_StrCpyNW(a,b,c);
    #define StrCmpW(a,b)     IgnoreLinkError_StrCmpW(a,b);
    #define StrCmpNW(a,b,c)  IgnoreLinkError_StrCmpNW(a,b,c);
    // header file for my LabView-built DLL (ASCII single-byte character arguments)
    #include <MyLibraryHeader.h>
    // clean up afterwards, put things back to 'normal'
    #undef StrCatW

  • Help!Could someone kown how to call ArcGIS application within Labview?

    For my desigh, ArcGIS must be as a application within Labview.Since I haven't found any information in this field. Could some help?
    Now I have finished the two individual parts of Labview and GIS module, but the main problem is how to call for GIS module in Labview. Maybe some one can give me some suggestion.
    Thank all!

    Hello
    If you created a DLL out of your GIS application you could then call it from LabVIEW using a Call Library Function Node.
    The best place to start understanding Call Library Function Nodes is the LabVIEW Help.
    Also, you might want to take a look at this link.

  • How can I call a LabVIEW executable from within another LabVIEW executable?

    I have a customer requirement for two LabVIEW executables. Based on their current setup, they need to run executable "A" or "B", both of which are under independent revision control. As with the other poster, I suspect a path problem. You might try the
    path out in a shell window, and if it works, copy the complete absolute
    path to LV to see if that works. LV is basically passing the comma
    nd to
    the OS and doesn't even know what is in it, so you should be able to get
    it to work.
    The other poster commented on subpanels, which is a good suggestion, but
    without going to LV7, an EXE can have open more than one VI. You can
    use the VI Server and the Run method to fire up another top-level VI.
    The decision is whether you want both to be in unique processes.
