Unstable speed fluctuating between being fine and ...

Hello, usually my internet is fine. I'm used to around 5mbps up and 0.35 down, which is fast enough for me. However for the past week my internet speed has been very unstable. It fluctuates between being normal and dropping down 1-3mbps. I am also recieving ping of around 200-500ms which is very frustrating as I do a-lot of online gaming. webpages load very slowly, I have to leave videos to buffer for a long time and i recieve lag in games. It seems as if the internet is fine in the morning but gos downhill from around 1pm onwards.
My internet does not usually do this, but this has been happening for around a week. I have a BT home hub 4, and have tried resetting it several times but this has not made any difference.

you need to stop resetting the hub as that will certainly not help your connection and will probably make it worse - stable conenction is best
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

  • Battery keeps fluctuating between "Replace Soon" and "Normal"

    I have noticed that over the past few weeks, my battery continues to fluctuate between 43% health (Replace Soon) and 95% health (Normal).
    The weird part is that, when the battery is listed as 95% health, it functions normally (2 hours of charge). However, when the battery is listed as 43% health, it lasts significantly less even when doing the same light web browsing.
    Anyone have any ideas? Replace the battery? Is it defective? Thanks!

    1, 668 cycles is a good life for a battery that is expected to hold about 80% capacity after 300 cycles.
    2. 668 is a lot for an 18-month old battery--that's well over one cycle per day. You are using your battery hard, apparently for hours and hours every day. It shouldn't be surprising that it's being schizophrenic in its reporting to the OS about its status. When you get your new battery--yes, I am sure you need one--treat it better. Use it plugged in when power is available, unplugged when not, and calibrate it every six or eight weeks. Some reading:

    Has anyone seen any performance tests showing the difference between 2.4 and 2.93 ghz MBP? I've googled around and haven't found anything.

    Check Bare Feats for benchmarks and do some Google searching. Logically, the difference is not likely more than the difference in processor speed, plus or minus.

  • SCXI 1140 readings fluctuate between correct value and zero

    I have a SCXI Chassis with two 1531 modules, one 1520 module and one 1140 module, controlled by custom written software written in Labwindows/CVI.
    When tested in the UK lab it all worked fine. When taken into the field in Romania I got strange signals from the 1140 (voltage input) module - at about a 50Hz cycle the signal would rapidly switch between zero and the correct signal. The signals from the other 3 modules were fine.
    I assumed it had been damaged in transit, but when I got back to the lab it all works fine again.
    The only difference between the two situations was the power supply level. Both were AC mains, UK was 240V, Romania was 220V, and I remembered to change the voltage selection wheel on
    the supply to the SCXI chassis.
    The symptoms are identical to those mentioned here but I'm not using DAQmx, and I only get the problem with the 1140 module.
    I'm reluctant to turn the voltage selection wheel back to 220V when it has a 240 V input, and can't think of any way to recreate the situation I had in Romania.
    Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this problem, or how I could test it locally?

    The Romanian supply is 50 Hz.
    In Romania I pulled the 1140 module out and checked that all the dip switches were firmly in place, and nothing else seemed loose.
    The fault was extremely periodic, and was at exactly 50 Hz. It's as if there was only an output signal when the supply voltage was positive, and when the supply voltage was negative the output signal was zero.
    I would really like a way to check the module in the lab with a 220 V supply.

  • Different wi-fi speed connection between my iMac and my Macbook Pro (both placed side by side)

    I have purchased my iMac and my macbook pro at the same time and now I am facing something which I consider weird. The wi-fi connection speed in my iMac is fine but the wi-fi speed connection on my macbook pro is awful. It works as fine as the iMac if I connect it to a ethernet cable. I have put my macbook pro side by side with my iMac to try it and for my surprise, my macbook pro wi-fi speed connection was still lousy whilst the wi-fi speed connection from my iMac was nice... Does anyone face the same issue?

    Non Apple router? Try restarting the router.
    If you are using an Apple AirPort base station, try a different channel on the MacBook Pro.
    Open AirPort Utility located in Applications > Utilities
    Click on the base station icon then click Edit the select the Wireless tab then click Wireless Options.
    Cick the first Channel pop up menu, select Automatic
    Click the second Channel pop up menu, select Automatic
    Cick Save.
    Give AirPort a minute to reset.
    If automatic does not help, try a numbered channel from the pop up menu.

  • Is there a difference between being associated and authorized?

    i thought i authorized this windows 7 machine but it tells me that i am not authorized to play some songs that my mac is authorized to play.
      If I deauthorize all 5,  most of which are dead and gone, will I have to update software?  my 2 macs are still at 10.4 and I don't want to have to update the os on them
    and yet this window 7 , under account and manage this computer in the cloud , says that this computer is associated with auto downloads adn to download previous downloaded music.
    is this not the same as authorized?
    I am confused.

    Speed.   800 is up to twice the speed, and sometimes faster.    You can connect the two connectors with a cable that fits both ends, but you will be left with the slowest speed.

  • Hard Drive Speed Difference Between FireWire 800 and Internal Drive

    Right now I have my entire 1.5 TB Lightroom photo library on an external drive connected to my new Mac Pro via FireWire 800. Will I experience dramatic or even noticeable speed improvements if I move this drive to one of the internal SATA hard drive bays in my Mac Pro?
    I would likely buy a new drive and SuperDuper the external to this new drive I put in the Mac Pro.

    SATA II 3Gb is only the controller bus and has almost nothing to do with actual individual drive speed. Confusing the bus interface with hard drive speeds is not a clear way to compare.
    Just pull the drive out of the FW case is all you probably need to do. Actual FW800 is less than 80MB/sec and more like 72-75MB/sec - which is as slow as your hdd gets from slow inner tracks.
    Other than green, most 1.5TB drives average minimum 75MB/sec to max 115 with average in mid-90s. And the first 1/2 of a drive is where best performance comes from.
    The size of the data and media library, amont of free space, all play a role.
    I think FW should be left to backups, an alternate boot volume, off line data.
    If it was Aperture library, but otherwise SSD is not realistic or viable. Nobody uses RAM disks as they are inefficient.
    I still find 10K VelociRaptor ($279 / 600GB) fast, smoother, more responsive, great for system and data drives, even if they are only 135MB/sec, or about what some of your 2TB drives can offer.

    If your actual connection speed is about the same, I wouldn't worry too much about the indicator.

    I am doing an an aquisition and displaying the data on graphs. When I run the program it is slow. I think because I have the number of scans to read associated with my scan rate. It takes the number of seconds I want to display on the chart times the scan rate and feeds that into the number of samples to read at a time from the AI read. The problem is that it stalls until the data points are aquired and displayed so I cannot click or change values on the front panel until the updates occur on the graph. What can I do to be able to help this?

    It may also be your graphics card. LabVIEW can max the CPU and you
    screen may not be refreshing very fast.

  • Crystal Report Output is Fluctuating between USA and European format Issue

    We use Crystal Report 10 .net for our web development in asp.net. We export crystal to PDF Or excel. And it is showing different format for date and decimal points. Its not doing this all the time, but its like every other time I run the webpage then report exports to pdf shows dd/mm/yyyy format, then next time would be mm/dd/yyyy format. Same things with numbers like
    10,000.50 would show like 10.000,50.
    Is something corrupted or there are any hot fix if this is an issue?
    The weird thing is, its not continuously doing this but its fluctuating between this formats.
    Please help....

    Other than that, as CR 10 has been out of support for a number of years, I have no way of testing or reproducing the issue. In order for me to do any troubleshooting, You'd need to get to a supported version of CR. Either CR XI r2 (11.5) or CR 2008 (12.x). 12.x recommended as CR XI r2 will be out of patch support next month.

    I have reset the NVRAM and the SMC a couple of time but that didn't work so I ran an Apple Hardware Test and while testing the logic board it gives the following error:
    4SNS/1/40000000 LB1T
    I've done some research and found this is a temperature sensor related to the battery, but cannot find where the sensor is located in the computer.  Would you know how I can find the sensor to test it?  Could my battery problem be related to something else?  Would a fresh install of Lion help?

    Two pieces of information that may or may not b helpful, the hard drive is from my early 2008 MBP and the only test disc I have access to is from an iMac.

    Why do you have LION installed on that older machine?

    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • Combined PDF page display speed difference between Acrobat 8 Pro and Acrobat X Pro

    I have encountered a display speed issue with regards to combining Tiffs with Acrobat X Pro.  The Tiffs are between 200 KB and 600 KB.  Tested the issue by using a series of Tiffs originally combined using Acrobat 8 Pro but used Acrobat X Pro to combine them.  When I open the combined PDF files using X, I can cycle through the pages of the one created using 8 significatinly faster (i.e. about as fast as I can click) but the file created using X is significately slower.  Note: PDF file size is smaller using X (30.9 MB) than same combined files using 8 (46.1 MB).  Any ideas on what might be causing this issue?

    Found a Tips & Tricks document for Acrobat 8 which indicated the default Monochrome Compression setting for Acrobat 8 is CCITT G4.  Recreated the combined PDF file from the original Tiffs using X Pro with the modified setting and works like a charm.  Thanks for the point in the right direction.
