Unusual error when creating PDF from Excel

2 of my work computers started suffering from this 1 week ago in Excel 2003.
All create buttons and dropdown menus work, the creation process goes through progress bars and such.
At the end, an error box titled Acrobat PDFMaker displays this error;
"An error occurred while saving the file. Please check if there is sufficient space in the temporary folder."
It's Acrobat 8 and its been updated to the highest level for quite a while. No settings have been changed.
Running on Windows XP Pro. PDF creation has worked fine before this.
It still works fine on Word.
The error is not on Google or here, so I assume I'm the first to ever get it!
There's at least 40 GB free on the drives. I cleared the system temp folder for kicks, but no change.
I did a generic uninstall and reinstall on one computer, reapplied updates, but error still pops up.

Hello - this did not happen when I printed the file to the Adobe PDF printer.  It correctly sized the sheet as 8.5" x 11".  Thanks for the suggestion.  Also, it will properly print out to the physical printer.
The main problem is when I am combining several PDFs into one document, I have some sheets sized at 8.5" x 11" and some at 17" x 22", so the document looks strange when viewing it online.  I am still not sure why the Create PDF add-in creates a different sized PDF than the Print to PDF function.

  • Page size error when creating PDF from Excel 2013

    Hello,
I am using Acrobat Pro XI, and am creating a PDF from Excel 2013.  I have updated Acrobat to the latest version (11.0.4).  I am using the Acrobat CreatePDF add-in inside Excel to convert a spreadsheet to PDF.  However, when I create the PDF, the page size doubles from 8.5" x 11" to 17" x 22".  I have checked the print settings inside Excel to insure that the content fits onto an 8.5" x 11" page.  I also checked the Preferences->Advanced Preferences of the Create PDF add-in and confirmed that the default page size is set to 8.5" x 11".  Does anyone know why it is creating the PDF with a 17" x 22" page size?  Also, can the page be resized back down to 8.5" x 11" within Acrobat Pro XI?

  • Unusual Bug when creating pdf from image files

Hi I have a very mindboggling problem which I cant seem to get my head around.
basically I am trying to create a pdf using a large amount of image files, these images are scans of pages of a book. so I have been trying to create a pdf file from these images, and everytime i try, it all looks ok except for one page which comes up smaller in size than the rest which is a big problem and very unusual. If I change the view of acrobat so that it shows two pages at a time then this is clearly visable where one page is normal and the page next to it is like a third of the size. Ive checked the image file properties for that page and they are more or less the same as the rest, the dimensions of the image file too, but when I add it into a PDF it seems to shrink in size, any ideas as to why? any help would be much appreciated! (and I hope what I said made sense lol )
    Thanks

    Hi Davew000
Can you please tell the steps you are doing to create the PDF ?

  • Incorrect page size when creating PDF from Excel 2013 (export and print)

I am in the USA so everything tends to default to 8½"x11" ... but I created a document in Excel with A size settings. I have attempted to export it to PDF with every setting I can find set to A4 and I have attempted to print the document to PDF again with every setting I can find set to A4 (page size, layout - advanced - paper/output - paper size - A4) with all scaling turned off and yet when I open the finished document in Acrobat XI Pro (with all updates installed) the document properties lists it as 8½"x11". I don't see any resize document settings in Acrobat or any other reason it would be anything but A4 in Acrobat's settings, and I've even had someone in our design department that uses Acrobat extensively look at my steps and they don't see where I'm making any mistakes.
Does anyone here have any suggestions?

Notice in the illustration the button Page setup.
Click on that and see if you can set printer from there.
I don't know whether this is in the PC version.
This is an adobe dumb idea inserting a Print menu in between a print menu and the printer, and not allowing the Printer to do the control Setup itself.
One of them ideas that came up when a developer was sitting around twidling his thumbs, and saying hey lets do this.  Another idea That comes along with this, is the inserted property feature called simplex printing. If you want to print a PDF duplex you can setin printer till cows come home and you blue in the face. Won't print Duplex.  You have to Click Propties and Locate the command simplex, and turn off.

  • Problems with black color creating PDF from Excel 2013

    Hi
I want to create PDF from Excel 2013 using Adobe Acrobat distiller. When I do so I have problem with black which is 300 percent black instead of 100K. Problem is only with drawed lines from Excel's symbol menu (text is fine).
I use Acrobat 9 Pro and few days ago switched from Office 2000 to 2013.....and problems started.
Office 2000 and Acrobat 9 Pro worked ok and everything including drawed symbols like lines or squares were 100K black in PDF. Now in the case of Excel 2013 it is not so but when I use export function included in Excel and export file to PDF output is 100K. I am not sure if this kind of export is good for me. I use PDF's as inputs to InDesign. So I would like to have more control when create PDF from excel. But in Excel setup I can choose standard and minimum size and that is all.
I imported Adobe PDF Settings from computer where these settings worked with Excel 2010 but they do not do same job for me in combination with Excel 2013 (I have 300 black).
    To explain my workflow:
I am a publisher of crossword magazine and I use Excel to write crosswords. Then I create PDF's and import them into InDesign.
Should I use internal export included in Excel 2013? Are these PDF's ok for working in InDesign and finally for print purposes?
Or If you have any suggestion how to create PDF via Adobe Acrobat distiller setup (which I prefer) please give me advice.
    Thank you in advance
    Juraj

These are tough issues I suspect and the answer you need is probably trivial (it is finding it). I will make some suggestions, but I have no idea if any will work.
    -  In the printer under the Properties>Layout>Advanced>print quality, I use 300 dpi (default is 1200).
    - Under the printer preferences>settings>edit the settings file, I use again 300 dpi (default is 1200 dpi).
These may not fix your issue, but migth be worth a try. You could also try using the preflight script to change to gray-scale. It may not make any changes, but again may be worth a try.
All I am trying to suggest are the things I would be looking at. Maybe they will lead you someplace. Others may be by with better suggestions in time.

  • Acrobat 9 Quits When Create PDF from Scanner Selected

Hi. I wonder if anyone can advise please.
I have recently installed Acrobat 9 on my MacBook Pro and have plenty of RAM. However, I can "Create PDF from Scanner" just the once. After that, Acrobat quits when I select Scan or quits if I cancel the scan.
    I have tried the following:
    1. Troubleshoot System Errors & Freezes
    2. New User account
    3. Recreated Preferences
    4. Booted from separate disk
    5. Repaired disk permissions
    6. Have no third party plug-ins installed
    7. Have run Repair Acrobat
    8. Changed Universal Access
    9. Defragmented disk & repaired files
    10. Safe Boot and reinstall Acrobat
Nothing has worked except when I clean install I can scan through Acrobat once.
I can scan from the scanner software - Lexmark 4850 - with a jpeg straight to Acrobat but want to try to solve the issue of scanning straight from the app.
    Thanks for your help people.
    Regards
    Paul

After I discovered my problem of quitting after completing the scan of the first side of a 2-sided document and decided to go to Adobe for help, I should have known I was in real trouble after following their instructions for locating the Acrobat serial number. After bringing up the splash screen and clicking on it, instead of seeing the number the splash screen disappeared! So I had no option but to use the phone. Then their help person couldn't give me the serial number- he had to transfer me- and I chose to stay with him for help instead. He decided it was a conflict between the Acrobat & HP software and ended the help session.
I then did some on-line research and discovered others with the same problem, and came up with the comparison test with the Windows version. Adobe's phone system didn't recognize my Case #, but the second Help person said it worked fine. At that point, I got the feeling that I was in real trouble. After another hour going over the same ground and repeated denials that their software was at fault, the Helper refused my request that they do a Windows comparison test or send me a Windows version to test myself and promised to call me back with results of their "research". That call never came.
On the third call, again with the Case # unrecognized by the phone system, the Helper was even more unhelpful, probably after reading the record of the first two calls. He insisted on going back to the machine and over the same ground once again, and I ended the call.
I agree that the on line approach is better, and I may have to make a double call to get the serial number (neither of the two I have, each different on the case or on the CD worked) and try that if my request for a supervisor fails. Fortunately they are so incompetent that they can't track starting over.
I'm not a programmer, but have lots of varying experience with computers dating back to the first Atari-400. Since your Acrobat uses only the Twain driver component from your scanner software, the first place to look for a problem is in the Acrobat software, especially since the software doesn't run again after the first use without reinstalling, and the scanner continues to perform properly using it's installed software. The Windows comparison test such as Tim Whitfield was able to make, would clearly establish the Mac version of the Acrobat software to be at fault, but would still not resolve our problems. Unfortunately I hold out little hope for either you or I with Adobe, since neither their phone nor the online help has come up with a prior fix. This indicates a bug fix requirement, which for something like this looks to be a relatively long time in coming.

  • Acrobat X Pro - create PDF from Excel with no margins...ARGH!

    Hello all,
Does anyone know if it's possible to create a PDF from a selection of Excel cells without a margin appearing on the PDF file? Even if I set the print margins (print to Adobe PDF) to zero, Acrobat still puts in margins in the PDF. The background of the Excel file is black (as specified by my manager), and he wants black all the way to the edges of the PDF page.
I have to submit this weekly, and as it's several pages long I don't want to be faffing about with the crop tool each Monday morning (it already takes long enough to source the data). The current solution I have been given is to create a template in Powerpoint (HATE) and link the cells/graphs, but and paste any text boxes, and then convert from Powerpoint to PDF, as no margins are imposed this way.I know cropping would be quicker than this, but surely in this day and age it's easily possible and there's just some simple option I'm just missing?
    Regards,
    George

I have the same setup with Win 7 and Office 2010 and have created thousands of PDF from Excel sheets, but never noticed this particular issue.  Regardless, rather than fight an issue like this where no specific documentation exists, I usually resort to other options in the interest of not getting bogged down in a maddening search for answers.
Go ahead and convert to PDF so that your links are retained, etc.  Open the resulting file in Acrobat, and use the crop tool to remove the blank margins that are at issue, either maintaining proportionality or not, depending on your needs, making sure to set the cropping tool to apply the scheme to all pages.  I'm assuming that all pages are formatted the same, such that this strategy will work.  Then, apply the cropping, and sanitize the file to remove the cropping data.  At this point, your blank margins should be completely gone, and the file can be scaled for printing if that is your objective, but that will obviously introduce some white margins again at the printer.
The only other option I'm aware of to address this from the PDF side is via a third-party plug-in from Evermap called AutoPagex.  One of its features allows you to scale a document's content to the page margins, either maintaining proportionality or not.  Without proportionality, I was able to scale an Excel sheet with black background to all but a tiny sliver of the top and bottom margins in landscape orientation.  From here, I scaled the content via an additional feature to 100.5%, and all white margins were gone.  That said, it probably just as effective to accomplish this via the crop tool, assuming the page formatting remains consistent.
Disclosure:  I have no affiliation of any kind with Evermap, but did address the use of several of their products in my book, "The PDF Litigation Guide."
    Hope that helps!

  • TOC not updating when creating PDF from Robo9

I have not really created PDFs from Robo before, so I might be missing something basic. I am trying to create Word and PDF documents from my Robo9 project. My problem is that some of my topics are not being generated, in either the Word output or the PDF output. The topics are indeed part of the TOC in the Robo project, but they are not part of the TOC in the Word and PDF output. The strange thing is, all of the TOC books make the conversion, but the one book I am having the issue with includes one topic, but all of the other topics in that book do not get converted. I tried recreating the TOC, and it still does the same thing. It's almost like the printed documentation generation is ignoring any new changes to the TOC, as it's the same every time no matter what I change. I tried making some changes to topics that are generated, and I can indeed see the changes in the printed output docs.
Anything glaring I am missing, or should try? Thanks.
    Mark

    Likely a common misunderstanding.
The first time you create printed documentation, the topics are based on the TOC. Thereafter there is no link.
When you add new topics to the project, they are not automatically in any of the TOCs. You have to add them to each TOC. It's the same with print, you have to add them in the print layout.
Easiest way is to simply use the double left chevrons to remove the topics in the print layout and then use the double right chevron to back in, the difference being it will add all the topics in the TOC and as you added the new topics there, they will be in the print layout.
There's more in Printed Documentation on my site.

  • Acrobat 8.1 Crashing when creating PDF from webpage

    www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/910569/000091056909000016/form6-k15june09.htm
I have been trying to create a PDF from the above URL using Acrobat 8.1 using the "Create PDF from Web Page" function.  The Download Status form opens and shows the progress as files are downloaded and converted.  However Acrobat 8.1 always crashes before completing the task.  Acrobat 5.0 successfully completes the task although the formatting leaves a lot to be desired but that's another issue.
I've tried various values for settings such as processing 1 level or getting entire site but the crash is consistent.
I have also tried a couple of other machines in the office with the same crashed result.
Can anybody suggest why Acrobat 8.1 would fail to render this URL into a PDF and what would cause it to crash so consistently?  Is there an alternate method of creating a PDF from this URL aside from loading it into Word and printing to a PDF?
    Any clues appreciated!

The problem is likely that the web page does not conform to standard HTML. AA8 crashed on me also. You can print the file from your browser. The only thing that would be missing would be the 3 links near the bottom and they are easy to add.

  • XMP Metadata Error when creating PDF/A-1b

    Hello,
I just started using Adobe Acrobat X for Mac to create PDF/A-1b documents from scanned TIFs.  I created a script in the Action Wizard to 1) Combine Files into a Single PDF; 2)Downsample image resolution to 150 ppi (bitmaps to 300 ppi); 3) Recognize Text;4) Pause to find all suspects and make corrections to incorrect OCR; 5) Convertto PDF/A-1b (sRGB); and 6) Verify compliance with PDF/A-1b.
When I use the Action Wizard to to execute the script above I receive an error message stating "Metadata does not conform to XMP."  However, when I execute each of the actions manually I do not receive the XMP metadata error.  It takes a long time to execute each action manually, so I am hoping there is some way to make this full script work in the Action Wizard.
I have an open case with Adobe regarding this issue, but so far no solutions.

I do not receive an error when the "Verify compliance with PDF/A-1b" action is removed from the script.  Does this action have to be performed separately to avoid the XMP metadata error?

  • Corrupt image formatting when creating pdf from embedded visio image in MS word

Hello, Using Adobe Acrobat 9 standard and trying to create a PDF file from an MS word (version 2003) document.  PDF file created is fine except for an image (embedded visio diagram imported into word).  When created in PDF, the image is missing many of the diagram labels, and other text boxes are in the wrong font and wrong location.  I don't know if it's my Adobe Acrobat or MS Word settings that need to be updated.
    thanks, NB

    Dear fellows,
the problem is still present.  My system:Windows 7 32-Bit Prof, MS Office 2010 Prof, Acrobat X Pro 10.1.1, Vision 2010 Prof, all updates installed.
Problem #1: Even the latest Acrobat X 10.1.1 version causes Visio 2010 to start with error messages, origin: the Acrobat Add-In.  Therefore I de-activated the Acrobat Add-In, again, as in the past.
As I design grafics with Visio 2010, I mark them in the active Visio window, copy the marked parts and then insert them into my Word-Document.  So far, so good and as I want it.
The (still present) problem: I can produce a PDF file using the "save as Adobe PDF", but the Visio drawing is incomplete and corrupt.  E.g. arrows as line endings have disappeared.
PS: But using Adobes PDF printer sets the embedded Visio drawing correctly!  But using the printer one looses some features of the "save as Adobe PDF" command.
    Well, probably one day ...
    Regards,
    Rückenlehne.

  • Adobe Acrobat XI crashes when creating PDF from webpage.

I need to create quite a few pdfs from webpages and all of a sudden, after being completely functional, my Acrobat has begun crashing nearly 100% of the time when trying to do so.  I'm defining crashing as either completely crashing ('...has stopped working...') or freezing indefinitely, forcing me to Force Quit.  It may be worth mentioning that I am using the Mac version.  Any ideas?

The problem is likely that the web page does not conform to standard HTML. AA8 crashed on me also. You can print the file from your browser. The only thing that would be missing would be the 3 links near the bottom and they are easy to add.
