Updaing SQL 2005 Report Builder Reports (based on Report Models) to SQL 2012 Report Builder Reports?
We are upgrading from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012 directly (no SQL 2008 to be installed). We have many SSRS Reports written in Report Builder 1.0 against Report Models generated from an OLAP datasource. In SQL 2012, Report Models can no longer
be created or edited. I have found many posts on this topic, including this:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/896522da-45c3-46c0-848a-16f8f02ab051/how-to-upgrade-report-models-from-report-builder-1020-to-30. which the 'answered' response states:
SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services does not include tools for creating or updating report models. Although you can continue
to use existing report models as data sources in SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services reports you should consider updating your reports to remove their dependency on report models.
But I cannot locate any instructions/documentation, etc. on how to go about "updating your reports to remove
their dependency on report models.". How do I take existing Report Builder 1.0 reports that point to Report Models and upgrade them to the new SQL 2012 without Report Models? Is there a way to convert them? Or, do they need to be rewritten
from scratch? If there is a link to these instructions, please post as I cannot locate it any where. Thank you.
Katherine thank you for helping with this. Here is what I have tried:
On the Report Manager (2012) site, I created a new OLAP data source. And when I test the connection, I get the pop up "Connection created successfully."
I then pointed my Report Builder (v1.0) report to this new Data Source (from Report Manager site, selected 'Manage' for the report, from Data Sources, selected Browse and drilled down to the new Data Source I created and selected Apply).
Now when I try to View the report, I receive the following error:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Query execution failed for dataset 'paramDataSet'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand) The SemanticQuery element at line 7, column 279 (namespace http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2004/10/semanticmodeling)
cannot appear under Envelope/Body/Execute/Command.
I then exited IE and reopened the Report Manager site. I opened Report Builder 3.0,, selected Open and opened this same report. Idrilled donw to Data Sources and right clicked on dataSource1 (the only one listed) and selected Data
Source Properties. I kept the same name, but selected the new shared datasource I created (New DataSource), and selected OK.
Next, I drilled down to Datasets. There are two listed, dataSet and paramDataSet (yes, this report has parameters). I right clicked on the dataSet and selected dataSet properties, and see that it points to dataSource1 (which is the dataSource
I just pointed to my New DataSource). I cancelled and checked the Data Source for paramDataSet, and it also points to dataSource1. Selected cancel and went back to the main dataSet.
So both datasets point to the new DataSource I created.
If I select Run, I get the following error:
I select OK and right click on dataSet and select Refresh Fields and get this error:
Can you (anyone) please explain what I am doing incorrectly? Thank you.

I think I created a table without the field 'System_ID' when
first migrating from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 and now I can not get CF
5.0 to refresh its view of SQL 2005.
I get the following error when running SQL 2005 and CF 5.0,
but have no problems when running SQL 2000 and CF 5.0 nor when
running SQL 2005 and CF 2008 trial version. If I delete the
'system_id' from the SELECT statement it works too.
I get the same error if I delete the table, or if I delete
the entire database. The only thing that causes other errors is
when I shut down the server or delete ODBC connection. I have
rebooted the entire server (Server 2003), shut down the SQL 2005 -
anything I could think of to clear buffers. The other thousand
lines of CF code and about 100 tables works fine and interfaces
nicely with a .NET application and Crystal Reports.
Short of spending $1200 to upgrade or renaming tables or
databases, does anyone an idea of how to get around this.
Thank you in advance,
Bill

Can SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 drivers co-exist in PI?
Hi,
Currently in our PI environment, we have JDBC Adapter connections to SQL 2000 database servers for which the Driver has already been installed.
For connecting to new SQL 2005 database servers, I understand that we have to install the SQL 2005 drivers. I also came to know that SQL 2005 Driver is backward compatible and supports JDBC connection to SQL 2000 server.
But the question I have is whether both the SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 drivers can be installed together in a way that connection to SQL 2000 use the 2000 driver and the connection to 2005 uses 2005 Driver.
(They have different connection strings)
Many thanks in advance,
Regards,
Rosie SasidharanThe SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver is far better than the SQL Server 2000 JDBC driver. The 2005 JDBC driver primarily consists for one file, sqljdbc.jar. ( if you want to use windows authentication there is another file you would need based on your platform x64 vs x86 called sqljdbc_auth.dll. If in the connect string you list ;integratedSecurity=true which means integrated security would be used and this second file would be required. The 2000 driver did not support integrated security.
The SQL 2000 JDBC driver was made up of the 3 jar files:
msbase.jar,mssqlserver.jar and msutil.jar.
If you want to use a Microsoft JDBC driver to connect to SQL Server 2005, than you should use the 2005 driver, sqljdbc.jar.
Follow the instructions in point 1 of the note #831162 - FAQ: XI 3.0 / PI 7.0 / PI 7.1 JDBC Adapter questions 1 and 13.
Since the jar are different I assume you can use the both drivers, but it doesnt make sense. -
SQL 2005 suppprt for CF 7.02?
Hello,
I'm sure that SQL Server 2005 is supported by CF 7.02 but I
can't find proof on the Adobe site. Is there such a document saying
this is supported on for 7? Our db guy needs this to start the db
upgrade process. We'd also like to know if CF can connect to a
"named instance" of SQL Server.I haven't had any issues using the SQL Server driver included
with CF7 to access a SQL 2005 server. If you're interested in a SQL
2005 specific driver you can get one from Microsoft.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=C47053EB-3B64-4794-950D-81E1EC91C 1BA&displaylang=en
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=ded4216b
Note that I think the Adobe article applies to an older
version of the MS JDBC driver so some filenames, paths may be
different.
In my experience the SQL 2000 to 2005 upgrade was painless
however in 2000 the case sensitivity of SQL passwords was based on
the server collation and in 2005 all passwords are case sensitive. -
SQL to get a LOV based on a value range (zips based on zipcode range)
I have a requirement to capture state, county, city and zipcode values based on AR Tax tables. I created an DFF with Input field for State, County and City and corresponding LOVs based on the tax tables. I am not sure how to proceed with zipcode (I am not a FORMS expert, that further makes it complicated :) )
For those who are aware of the tax tables - AR_LOCATION_VALUES and AR_LOCATION_RATES, there are no list of zipcode values. zipcodes are maintained at the city record level as a range FROM_ZIP_CODE and TO_ZIP_CODE. So a CITY record for GA.FULTON.ATLANTA has a from_zip of 30301 and to_zip of 30321-9999. I am not worried of the ( +4 ) values, all I care is the 5 digit zip and zip will increment by 1. For this scenario I want to show each zip code as a value in my LOV..so I want to show 30301, 30302, 30303....30320, 30321. Is there a SQL to generate such LOV based on range?
Any SQL experts out there with ideas?
Thx, SureshWilliam Robertson wrote:

Dsml and SQL 2005 reporting services?
I usually post over in the IDM forum so be nice to the newbie here :)
I have a Sun Directory server that I've enabled DSML on. On that side everything is good. However, ideally I want to pull this data into a MS SQL 2005 reporting services report. They have support for XML and web services, but the DSML front end doesn't accept GET requests and I don't know how to send the request as post in reporting services.
Has anyone else be able to get something like this working?
Thanks! No idea about MS SQL, but is your reporting service able to use files on disk? If so I guess your problem is easily solved by using an app to fetch data from directory server to disk. If you're more adventerous, you write a script in perl/python which acts as a proxy and translates GET requests to POST and relays data back in real time. Not sure if these help or not, just my thoughts.

XL Reporter problem with SQL 2005
Hi,
We just migrated our SQL Server from 2000 to 2005. Everything seemed OK, until we tried to run XL Reporter addon. Our SQL 2005 is 64bit edition, and I heard the 64bit version has some problem with transferring data to Excel, for example.
has anybody had the some problem? How can we solve this?
Thanks.

Check this thread: Re: XLR - Terminal Server
It should be a problem if your PL is upgrade to new.

Report error after update to SQL 2005
We revently updated our database server from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. After the update we have a report getting the following error.
Failed to retrieve data from the database.
Details: 22018:[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Conversion failed when converting the varchar value '96.48' to data type int. [Database Vendor Code: 245]
The report contains 2 views with one join and worked fine previously. The field referenced by the error will display fine as long as there are no fields from the other view on the report. As soon as I add a field from the second view, no data is displayed. I have not created any conversion to integer within the Crystal report for any field. Any help getting this to work again would be greatly appreciated.Hi,
What steps did you perform before upgrading? dont update. Try to back-up all your database and restore to SQL Server 2005 manually lets see if it have problems, seems to me a conflict datatypes.

please advise which data link i have to use for connecting sql server 2005?

Call BI Publisher Report in APEX, based on R.T.F Template Layout.
Hi to all respected members of this forum.
Since 18th May (Saturday), I am trying to connect BI Publisher Reports with Oracle Application Express 4.2.2.
My APEX Version = APEX 4.2.2
Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise Edition (Trial) = 11.1.1.6.0
Oracle BI Publisher Desktop 32 Bit = 11.117.0.79
For this purpose what I did?
Firstly I downloaded Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise Edition 11.7 and when I started Installation I came to know that "R.C.U (Repository Creation Utility)" is required during installation and I don't have that so, left this idea.
Than I downloaded Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise Edition (Trial) from www.oracle.com and BI Publisher Desktop Edition for Templates because there is no facility in BI Publisher Trial Edition to design Report Templates. I have installed both successfully and created a report as per my requirement.
Now, I want to call that report in Oracle APEX but I am unable to do that.
I followed http://dgielis.blogspot.de/2007/12/call-bi-publisher-report-from-apex.html but the link which is shown in picture no: 03, is not available, so this didn't help me.
Then, I followed Oracle BI Publisher Blog https://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/entry/apex_users_why_not_integrate_w which discuss to call BI Publisher Report in APEX based on "Generic Report Layout". This done successfully but still I am unable to call BI Publisher Report .
Then I found this type of script
http://localhost/xmlpserver/Guest/Reporting_Channel.xdo&id=FGFC&password=****&xt=Reporting_Channel&xf=pdf
to call BI Publisher Report in APEX but this also failed.
Please help me to understand that how to call "BI Publisher Report in APEX, based on R.T.F Template Layout.
Thanks in Advance.

Edited by: uzairmalik on May 20, 2013 1:32 PMAre you trying to have multiple sql queries and have multiple sections displaying different data sets ? Or with one single query but display it in different ways in a single report ?
You can create one single query as Report Query in APEX and associate it with a BIP report layout. So you can achieve a Dashboard layout with the report query/layout. -

I would first of all suggest you don't open the same question twice. this looks like a duplicate to this entry:

Crystal Report XI: Can you write your query in SQL instead of using the GUI
Hello
In crystal report version XI, can you write your query in sqlplus and then use the crystal report designer to build your report instead of using the GUI . I would like to be able to go database and show sql query and open that query and make changes directly there, is that possible on this version, if yes is there a setting somewhere? Please let me know.
Thank you

No you can no longer modify the SQL directly. Use a Command Object to enter the SQL directly.
