Update multiple InDesign documents using XML

I am looking for a solution to update multiple files using XML.
We have over 100 resumes in indesign and each resume has about a dozen projects (name, size, cost, location)
I would like to keep all of the projects in a master file "projects.xml" and then basically populate each resume from this file. This would allow me to make one change to a project and have that project update across all the resumes.
This file would be edited and probably rearanged frequently. I have a basic understanding of XML but am not sure how moving the order of projects within the XML file will effect the resumes.
My question is what type of issues would I be faced in working this way and how could I tackle them. Any workflow or advice would be very helpful.

In my understanding, the order of different elements in the XML file wouldn't matter - the order is set by the style sheet (XSLT) file.
I can't give any real suggestions though, except to consider a third party plugin which would make any XML solution much easier - XMPie, DesignMerge, StudioID etc. You could then reference a database (Access/Excel/csv) containing columns for name, project1, project2... and set the project info to only display if there is a corresponding entry in the database file.

Database that will update multiple InDesign documents

I have multiple documents with several different numbers within the paragraphs. I need to update these numbers quarterly. I want to keep one database (whether a Word document, Excel spreadsheet, etc...) where I store and update the numbers and have them flow across these other documents. Is this possible?

Ah OK. Here's some more detail.
I have five documents. Each document has a paragraph that contains different stats. For example:
We have X number of locations and are an $X million dollar company. We currently have over X customers.
Let's say, for simplicity's sake, that the above paragraph exists in each of the 5 documents. Currently, as those numbers change monthly, I have to open all 5 documents and update the 3 different numbers in each one.
What I would like to do is have one document that holds those numbers. Then I could open that one document, update all three numbers, and have the change cascade to my 5 InDesign documents.

Getting errors while updating links in Indesign document using javascript

We are updating the links in InDesign document using javascript. After running the script, we are getting the below errors in Adobe InDesign CC debug.
When closing the document for first time we are getting the below mentioned errors,
ASSERT 'fRefCount == 0' in c:\development\citius\source\components\database3\revisioneddatabase\SaLRICache.tpp at line 230 failed.
Erased item list not empty at block delete time
blockUID = 10486786 not freed
Internal error: 904 items were leaked!
After that we are opening the same document for second time, then we are getting the below mentioned errors,
ASSERT 'ts_DBPubFile->PlacementUIDIsAvailable(uid)' in c:\development\citius\source\components\database3\revisioneddatabase\SaLRIUtils.tpp at line 195 failed.
DB failed to create UID!

Please help us to solve this error in InDesign debug.

Automatically place images within multiple InDesign documents

I work for a publishing company of agricultural trade magazines and work on few titles each month. We are trying to streamline our production procedures and previous company I worked for had a script they used to place images within text pages by searching for the file name, however there were some limitations with this script (it would only work within 1 InDesign document and only within 1 InDesign story at a time). The company I am with now breaks out each editorial story into separate InDesign files and we place image boxes when the display ads are going to go. For our purposes now, I am looking for a script that, once all of the image boxes were tagged with the image file names, could search between multiple InDesign documents in a folder and automatically place all the images for us. Is anything like this available or able to be created? If so, would it have the capacity to search between multiple InDesign documents and search the entire document for the image file names? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

They were tagged using a program called Pathways created by a computer programmer the company used at the time. The issues that I was working on were annual Buyers' Guides so they were mainly just listings and inline graphics. The kinds of issues I work on now are monthly issue with various stories and no inline graphics, but display advertisements. And each story is created and laid out in a separate InDesign document. So I would need a script that can search an entire group of documents for file names and/or image boxes instead of just in one story in one document for inline graphics. (sorry if this is confusing).
I currently do not have a script to work from and am looking for something new that can be used to save use the time of placing every ad manually.

Once you have the snippet in your document, how do you move it/select it? My snippet is a text frame with a table in it.
This does NOT work:
var myFoot = myDocument.pages.item(0).place("Hard Drive:Users:Casey:Desktop:footer.INDS")
myFoot = myFoot[0]
myFoot.geometricBounds = ["1", "1", "1", "1"]
The snippet gets placed, but my error says "Object does not support the property or method 'geometricBounds'. This code works for normal images I place.

Place multiple InDesign document pages (ImportedPages)

I need a way to place multiple pages from an InDesign document in much the same way as the sample PlaceMulitpagePDF.jsx does but with InDesign documents rather than PDFs.
The following is the critical line where the PDF page number to import is set:
app.pdfPlacePreferences.pageNumber = myCounter;
What is the equivalent command for setting the InDesign document page number when choosing a page to import?
I have tried using:
Application.ImportedPageAttribute.pageNumber
but without result.

I am embarassed to say that my problem was a couple of typos, (reading the Zanelli script made that obvious to me). The command should have been:
app.importedPageAttributes.pageNumber
Note the lowercase "i" on "imported" and the "s" after "Attribute."

Update a system form using XML

Hi all,
I'm trying to update a system form by adding a tab (folder). The form is Customer Equipment Card (nb 60150), in the service menu.
I just want to add a folder called Counter.
When I load the XML file below, I get the following error :
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0xFFFFFFFE): Function not supported on current SBO Version - upgrade is required
If I want to add a button, it's working, but not a folder.
Something's false in this XML file (I add the good uid before I load it) ?

You could try and check wether it's there but invisible (access it in your code and wait for an exception).

I believe. I analyzed another system form and my own forms: None of the tabs are linked to anything. Is this documented? What does it mean?

I looked at the XML source of another system form and the tabs had val_on="SYS_whatever". With my own forms I set val_off="N" and val_on="Y". I remember having had some problems there, but I can't put my finger on it now.

No, it's 6.5. It's not in the documentation but you will find it somewhere inside the guts of this forum. As I said, I once had trouble adding tabs cleanly to a custom form using XML.
Of course, all this is just blindly stabbing into the dark. What else can we do?

Use plsql record type for this type of requirement.
Refer folllowing steps:
1) Create a plsql record type in the database ,
2) create a plsql procedure/package and use above record type as parameter in the procedure.
3) call this procedure from OAF side.

There are many good resources for Powershell tutorials. The MS help page for each cmdlet is usually a good place to start.
The suggested answer is very good and easy to modify to your needs. The linked article provides good detail on creating your csv file. If you look at their sample csv, you will see the column for LicenseAgreement and UsageLocation. You can change the script
to use the values from the csv instead of the same value for every user like so:
-LicenseAssignment $_.LicenseAgreement -UsageLocation $_UsageLocation
Basically, $_.<valuename> is the filled in by the value under the heading <valuename> in your csv file for the current user.
As for what msdivision, replace this with the correct domain name value for your organization. You can get the values for license SKUs from existing users by using the following:
Connect-MsolService
Get-MsolUser -UserPrincipalName <userprincipalname> |select Licenses

Problem happens when I post this Xml to DI server. With the updating of GrossPrice, I got a discount too. The NetPrice failed to Change with the GrossPrice. I am working under 2007B PL10, which is said to have fixed this bug. Something wrong with my Xml? or how can I prepare my Xml?

Verner, thank you. I modified my Xml and only PriceAfVat in document_line was posted to DI server. But the discount in document_line still comes out. As you can see in the Xml, all other fields not shown here are left blank in the xml :

Creating multiple-paged documents using Illustrator

Hi all! I normally use InDesign to create many-page projects. But twice now, I've had clients request that I create the file using Illustrator. Am I missing something? Can Illustrator do this? It seems to be each page would have to be its own separate file. That seems cumbersome to me. Thanks.

In CS 4 & 5 you can can have multiple artboards which are page like regions of the canvas they an be printed like pages.
In previous versions you would tile the art within a larger dimension document.
Bot can be printed or saved to a Multipage pdf.

Updating multiple subscreens in using DYNP_VALUES_UPDATE

Hi,
I have subscreens in multiple tabs. One tab is with fields, the other with a table.
The requirement is that either selecting from fields or table, it will prompt a pop-up with tree structure for selection. Once a selection is made (multiple values allowed), it should update both screens in the different tab.
The scenario is that, if I am in tab 1 (screen 9003), the values updated is only fields on tab 1 and not the table in tab 2 (screen 7338), and vice versa. Both goes thru the same set of codes.
I used 2 DYNP_VALUES_UPDATE to update the different screens (both in the same program) and have also tried DYNP_UPDATE_FIELDS but both works the same way.
I have also tried with 1 call to DYNP_VALUES_UPDATE by passing in the main screen (Screen 7200). It works the same way as above.
Please help.

Thanks for the reply. I believe assigning the values behind the screen with my own code would mean that I pass the value to the field/structure? I've done that prior to calling DYNP_VALUES_UPDATE. Does that mean I do not need to call the function module for it to work?
Can you give an example, please?
