UPDATE NO WAIT

Hi,
When a particular record is being updated by user1, at the same time user2 try to update the same record, then the user2 will be suspended until user1 commits the transaction. Is it mandatory that user2 has to wait till the user1 commits the transaction?
When user try to update a record from the front end application can I generate any message to the user when above problem occurs...
The UPDATE NO WAIT hlepful for my problem?
Please explain clearly about UPDATE NO WAIT...
regards,
SumanNaidu.S

Is it mandatory that user2 has to wait till the user1 commits the transaction? If you use only UPDATE statements, yes because UPDATE NOWAIT does not exist. But before running UPDATE you can use SELECT FOR UPDATE NOWAIT to detect this situation. See SELECT reference doc in http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_10002.htm#i2065646
If the row is already locked and you try to run SELECT FOR UPDATE NOWAIT, note that you will get Oracle error ORA-00054.

  • Oracle for update no wait

    Hi All..
Can any one pls tell me in which case we need to use for update no wait in cursors.
my understanding is for enable locks on top of records selected by cursor using for update.
but dont have knowlodge on NOWAIT clause. Can any one pls tell me in which case exactly we have to use nowait clause .
    Thanks in advance,
    Sanjeev.

    Hi Sanejev,
    There are 3 choices
    1. NOWAIT, You will set this, if you don't want to wait for the locks.
Enough if 1 row is not available for you, you will get a ORA-54.
    2. You can wait up to 'n' seconds. after 'n' seconds you haven't got the rows
    you will get an ORA-30006.
    3. New feature - offically- in Oracle 11g! SKIP LOCKED!
Sometimes is good for us that we TRY to lock all the rows, but no problem if there are some rows
    which are available for us.
In this case we modify all availabe rows the remaining will be skipped.
Later - maybe- we try to repeat our process for the remaining rows.
Of course, we mark our modified rows somehow(for example with flag)
Note that this feature is available in Oracle 10g( unofficially)!

  • Hi Select for update no wait

    Hi All
please anybody help me with an ex of select for update no wait.
my requirement is i want to update one table , before updating i want to know is that table is using by some other.

    What do you mean by
same record is opened Do you mean, queried by another form? This is not possible.... other session can always query a table (with approp privs)
    You are confusing me....
    1) you update DEPT using a form (not clear which one - but it is irrelevant)
    2) Another form is querying the DEPT table and you want to know this? Why? What do you care?
If you are worried about a lost update, don't... Forms takes care of this

  • Select for update no wait distributed polling strategy

I have an esb process which currently uses 'logicaldeletepolling strategy'.
I need to change it to use the 'select for update no wait' distributed polling strategy.
What steps do I need to perform on the existing process ?

    Hi,
Try: http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/integrate.1013/b28994/adptr_db.htm#sthref558 (Oracle® Application Server Adapters for Files, FTP, Databases, and Enterprise Messaging User's Guide
    10g Release 3 (10.1.3.1.0)
    Part Number B28994-02).
Also you can reconfigure DB adapter (I think this's the best way): laucnch adapter configuration wizard in JDev and at step 9 (adapter options) check distributed polling checkbox (query now contains for update clause).

You need to delete and redownload them to do that. This may require repurchasing paid ones.

  • N8 Symbian Belle update:: Long Wait!!!

    Hi Nokia,
I would like to share my thought, viewpoint on Nokia's firmware updates and it's availability to the global customers
Yes, as mentioned in the subject, I am coming to the much discussed and anticipitated Symbian Belle update for the Symbian 3 smartphone portfolio. Like all other customers, I was waiting for a good user experience on my Nokia s-phone. Symbian Anna might be the first step, but Belle definitely looks a Uber UI for all the users.
Now, let me explain my point: Nokia may release the Belle firmware for Nokia N8 someday in Q1 2012. I am definitely going to get that as I would keep this one in trash as no one wants an indefinite wait. And I may switch to some other phones running on Android/ or anything which I feel 'the cool one'. And I am not going to take another Nokia phone as this experience is horrible to wait for an update (having Nokia said "we don't & won't give the s/w update schedules prior"- it is like We (Nokia) would do whatever we want, and your (customers) interests doesn't matter). I was loyal to Nokia and keep this brand for nearly 10 years with 25+ phones from Nokia. And ultimately, you are loosing me (Nokia doesn't bother, I know). Not to try it's Windows portfolia as it's updates would be available only when Nokia feels to do it.
If this is a strategy to sell off new phones with latest OS (701 viz), this won't work well, as you may add a few customers and ofcourse sell some handsets, but a huge chunk of customer base will move away from Nokia. Another blunder is- the  release of update is happening when the update itself is 'Outdated' compared to the then Smartphone OS Versions.
I know this Post looks like my frustration vent, but certain that others who have similiar views could like or discuss this
    Regards,
    Harish.

    Hi Guys
As frustrated as everyone might be, including myself, I think it's only fair if we look at all sides of what's currently happening.
I, for one, get a bit uneasy reading about a Leaked version of our Long awaited O.S, but hey, that's just how this world operates, there's leaks almost everywhere and we just need to learn to live with it.
It is a fact that Nokia has lost much of it's market share to other manufacturers and it seems as if this happened overnight, but I think it's fair that we give credit where it's due. Anna was launched recently, August if I'm not mistaken, and 3 Months down the line we're at Nokia's throats for another update. Mind you Anna was not just a Bug Fix, it was a MAJOR update, which some countries still don't have due to some errors...... Before the Much Talked about iOS5, iOS 4 was made available to the public for the iPhone and iPod touch on June 21, 2010 (More Info Here), almost 15 Months in between, including the Official Launch date of the iPhone 4S with iOS5, yet we can't wait for more than 3-4 Months after a Major Update? Remember, the S^3 phones aren't the only phones that nokia offers on the market, they offer a wide range (Look at the most recent E-Series Software Updates that rolled out some days ago). If the N8 was Nokia's only Phone, I'm certain things would be running smoother, not Perfect, smoother.....
I would also love to see some sort of Improvement in here and there from Nokia, but trying to regain Market Leadership will not happen overnight and our support, as Nokia Users, will sure go a long way.
Nokia has in the years given us Products to be proud of, why can't we show the same support as we did before?
All I'm saying is, at the end of the day, we all want value for money, we chose Nokia, they are having difficulties, Let's support 'em, we're all human..... We will get Belle, we've only had Anna for about 95 days or so.... And, if True, with Carla and Donna under dev. we know that our phones will still be looked after...... Just a thought....

  • Updated Apps "waiting" after iOS6 Update

I have the iPhone 4 which I just updated to iOS6. Today I clicked "Update All" to update apps that had updates available. Now they're all in "waiting" mode. I tried various things: signed out out of the App Store, restarted the phone, tried updating individually, updated with iTunes. Nothing worked. I'm hesitant to reset to factory settings. Any suggestions, please?

This is happening to a lot of people, i guess we just have to wait for apple to fix this problem.

  • App updates say waiting and never finish Loading to my iPad

Hi. Trying to update my apps through the app store on my iPad. I clicked update all, the app icons show "waiting" and never finish. I tried synching to iTunes by hooking up to my computer, but made no difference.

    Maybe something here will help.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

  • App Update keeps "waiting"

I've been trying to update apps on my 3GS since downloading iOS6, and I've been stuck "waiting" for over 12 hours.  I've tried rebooting, signing in/out of Apple ID, resetting to default, and nothing seems to work.  This is really frustrating.  I tried deleting the app entirely in order to re-install, but it won't let me delete while it's "waiting".  I've even tried synching with iTunes, and that doesn't work either.  Several forums have suggested rebooting and resetting, but none of that has worked for me.
    Please help!!!!

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.
