Update Nulls With Value from Another Row

Good Morning,
I word for a car manufacturer. I am pulling an excel spreadsheet into SQL 2012.The spreadsheet lists one line for each dealer, each carline. So if there are 6 carlines and 65 dealers there will be 390 lines. when the spreadsheet gets to me it looks like
this:
Dealer
Carline         District         Data         Data         Data
East Side Craworld Model1
1 0
0
Model2
1 0 0
Model3
1 0
0 0
So the Dealer is only listed once. When I pull this into SQL the blank lines are nulls and I want them to be the Dealer name in there. How can I accomplish this with an update.
Just one thing more. When I programmed in access, I would loop through a table and set a variaiable =Dealer name and not change the variable until the next not null row and then make that the new variable all the while making nulls=the variable. Is there
a way to accomplish that here.

The only issue is this file will eventually be a feed and an ftp agent will grab the feed place it somewhere and and there will be a stored package to import it.
Can I do an update on a null field with the field from the previous record, or am I dealing witht he ordering thing again. I found this code. Will it work?
select Date
, GroupId
, case
when Comment is not null then Comment
else
select Comment
from YourTable yt2
where yt1.GroupId = yt2.GroupId
and yt2.Comment is not null
and yt2.Date < yt1.Date
and not exists
select *
from YourTable yt3
where yt1.GroupId = yt2.GroupId
and yt2.Comment is not null
and yt3.Date < yt2.Date and yt2.Date < yt1.Date
) end as Comment
from YourTable yt1

  • Update table with select from another table

    Hallo,
    I'd like to update table b with codes from a mapping table a.
    a has:
    town_id, town_code, town_name
    b has town_code, town_id, town_population, town_zip_code,...
    Table a has all the details - town_id, town_code and town_name and acts as the mapping between town_id and town_code
    In table b, town_code is null. I want to update the column b.town_code with town_code from table a where a.town_id = b.town_id.
    How will the update query look like?
    I tried
    UPDATE B SET town_code = (SELECT A.town_code FROM A,B WHERE A.town_id=B.town_id)
    and I get the error 'single-row subquery returns more than one row'
    Will appreciate your assistance

    This is what I did.
    First, I created and populated the TOWN_INFO table:
    CREATE TABLE "TOWN_INFO"
    (     "TOWN_ID" NUMBER,
         "TOWN_CODE" NUMBER,
         "E_MAIL" CHAR(15 BYTE)
    Table Created.
    insert all
    into TOWN_INFO (TOWN_ID, E_MAIL) values (3024,'[email protected]')
    into TOWN_INFO (TOWN_ID, E_MAIL) values (3040,'[email protected]')
    into TOWN_INFO (TOWN_ID, E_MAIL) values (3052,'[email protected]')
    into TOWN_INFO (TOWN_ID, E_MAIL) values (3065,'[email protected]')
    into TOWN_INFO (TOWN_ID, E_MAIL) values (3066,'[email protected]')
    select * from dual
    5 rows created.
    The following creates and populates the mapping table:
    CREATE TABLE "TOWN_MAPP"
    (     "TOWN_CODE" NUMBER,
         "TOWN_ID" VARCHAR2(255 BYTE),
         "TOWN_NAME" CHAR(6 BYTE)
    insert all
    into TOWN_MAPP (TOWN_ID,TOWN_CODE, TOWN_NAME) values (3024,'1001','TOWN_1')
    into TOWN_MAPP (TOWN_ID,TOWN_CODE, TOWN_NAME) values (3040,'1003','TOWN_3')
    into TOWN_MAPP (TOWN_ID,TOWN_CODE, TOWN_NAME) values (3052,'1002','TOWN_2')
    into TOWN_MAPP (TOWN_ID,TOWN_CODE, TOWN_NAME) values (3065,'1004','TOWN_4')
    into TOWN_MAPP (TOWN_ID,TOWN_CODE, TOWN_NAME) values (3066,'1006','TOWN_6')
    into TOWN_MAPP (TOWN_ID,TOWN_CODE, TOWN_NAME) values (3088,'1007','TOWN_7')
    into TOWN_MAPP (TOWN_ID,TOWN_CODE, TOWN_NAME) values (3020,'1009','TOWN_9')
    select * from dual
    7 rows created.
    And now the update query:
    UPDATE TOWN_INFO
    SET TOWN_CODE=(SELECT B.TOWN_CODE FROM TOWN_MAPP B, TOWN_INFO C
    WHERE B.TOWN_ID=B.TOWN_ID)
    SET TOWN_CODE=(SELECT B.TOWN_CODE FROM TOWN_MAPP B, TOWN_INFO C

  • How to update this table with values from another table ?

    Hi
    I have a table "regies". I want to replace the values of the column "regies.agent" by the value of the column "regies_personnes.id"
    As you see the tables have a common values column. ie regies.agent = regies_personnes.nom
    Table "regies" :
    Insert into "regies" (AGENT) values ('Humberdot Alain');
    Insert into "regies" (AGENT) values ('Danard Patrick');
    Table "regies_personnes" :
    Insert into REGIES_PERSONNES (NOM,ID) values ('Humberdot Alain',1);
    Insert into REGIES_PERSONNES (NOM,ID) values ('Danard Patrick',2);
    Before we have this
    sql>select agent from regies ;
    Humberdot Alain
    Danard Patrick
    After the update, the result should be
    sql>select agent from regies ;
    1
    2
    Thank you for your kind answer.

  • Update Query with Results From another Procedure

    I am not sure if you can do this or what the proper format of the command might look like.
    I have a stored procedure which insert records into a database. I want to insert the records which are returned by calling another procedure. This other procedure returns a cursor object to a variable named o_rows. Can this be done using Oracle 8i?
    Insert into MyTable
    MyStoredProcedure(oRows);

    You have a couple of options.
    1) You can turn your stored procedure into a pipelined table function. This would allow you to do something like
    INSERT INTO myTable
      SELECT *
        FROM TABLE( myStoredProcedure() );I don't believe that pipelined table functions were available in 8i, however.
    2) The other option would be to fetch rows from the cursor and insert those into your table. Something like
    LOOP
      FETCH oRows INTO col1, col2, col3, col4, ...
      INSERT INTO myTable( <<column list>> )
        VALUES( col1, col2, col3, col4 );Note that for simplicity I am omitting the declarations of the local variables col1, col2, etc. and the check to see whether the cursor was exhausted.

  • How to create a new row for a VO based on values from another VO?

    Hi, experts.
    in jdev 11.1.2.3,
    How to create a new row for VO1 based on values from another VO2 in the same page?
    and in my use case it's preferable to do this from the UI rather than from business logic layer(EO).
    Also I have read Frank Nimphius' following blog,but in his example the source VO and the destination VO are the same.
    How-to declaratively create new table rows based on existing row content (20-NOV-2008)
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/13-create-with-params-169140.pdf
    I have tried:
    1.VO1(id,amount,remark1) and VO2(id,amount,remark2) are based on different EO,but render in same page,
    2.Drag and drop a Createwithparams button for VO1(id,amount,remark),
    3.add: Create insertinside Createwithparams->Nameddata(amount),
    4.set NDName:amount, NDValue:#{bindings.VO2.children.Amount}, NDtype:oracle.jbo.domain.Number.
    On running,when press button Createwithparams, cannot create a new row for VO1, and get error msg:
    <Utils> <buildFacesMessage> ADF: Adding the following JSF error message: For input string: "Amount"
    java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "Amount"
         at java.lang.NumberFormatException.forInputString(NumberFormatException.java:48)
    Can anyone give some suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,CM,
    I'm really very appreciated for your quick reply! You know, today is Saturday, it's not a day for everyone at work.
    My principal requirement is as follows:
    1.select/check some rows from VO2, and for each selection create a new row with some attributes from VO2 as default values for VO1's corresponding attributes, and during this process the user may be cancel/uncheck or redo some of the selections.
    --so it's better to implement it in UI rather than in EO.
    2.it's better to implement this function with declarative way as in Frank Nimphius' blog.
    --little Jave/JS coding, the better. I only have experience in ORACLE FORMS, little experience in JAVA/JS.
    In order to get full information for the requirements of my use case, can take a check at:
    How to set default value for a VO query bind variable in a jspx page?
    (the end half of the thread: I have a more realworld requirement similar to the above requirement is:
    Manage bank transactions for clients. and give invoices to clients according to their transaction records. One invoice can contain one or many transactions records. and one transaction records can be split into many invoices.

  • Creating Variable with Replacement Path to get value from ANOTHER Variable

    Hi all,
        Is anyone has created the Variable with Replacement Path to get the value from another User Entry Variable, PLEASE ?
    First created the User Entry Variable (ZV_X) and it accepts the date range like '01/01/2009 - 01/31/2009'. Next created the Characteristic variable (ZV_Y) of Replacement Path for which source variable will be ZV_X and we should get the 'FROM Date' (01/01/2009) from the selection (ZV_X) into it (ZV_Y).
    While creating the Characteristic variable (ZV_Y) of Replacement Path, I didn't find my newly created ZV_X variable in the list of available variables under 'Variable' header in 'Replacement Path' tab and it is causing the error 'Source to replace variable ZV_Y is not defined'. How could I create the Characteristic variable of Replacement Path for my requirement, PLEASE ?
    The following is from help.sap..com:
    Replace with Characteristic Value
    Text and formula variables with the processing type Replacement Path can be replaced with a corresponding characteristic value. In the variable editor, on the General tab page, you specify under Reference Characteristic the characteristic that is to be referenced by the replacement. On the Replacement Path tab page, you can choose whether the variable is replaced with the From or the To Value and with the Key or the Name of the characteristic value. You can also specify the Offset Start and Offset Length for the output.
    Replace with Variable
    Characteristic value variables, hierarchy variables, text variables, and formula variables with the Replacement Path processing type can take their values from a different variable.
    The following prerequisites need to be fulfilled:
    Variable
    ●      The variable must not be input-ready
    ●      The variable must represent a single value
    Source Variable
    ●      The source variable must not be a hierarchy node variable
    ●      The source variable must be input-ready
    ●      The source variable must be available in the query
    ●      The source variable must represent a single value or an interval
    In the variable editor, on the Replacement Path tab page, you specify the source variable from which the value is to be determined. The value is either determined from the key, the external attribute of the key, the description, or the attribute value. You can specify an Offset Start and an Offset Length for the output here. The variable is replaced on the variable screen upon each data release.
    Thanks,
    Venkat.

    Hi Eve,
    It is possible to connect the 2 queries using a Replacement Path characteristic variable. You would need to create the variable on the char whose values you want to pass from Q1 to Q2. The variable will be of type replacement path and you will need to enter the name of Q1 from which it will get the values. Make sure that you include this char in the query definition of Q1 and Q2. In Q2 you will restrict the characteristic using this variable. DO not use this variable (replacement path) in Q1.
    In your query properties check if you have turned on the checkmark for Release for OLE DB for OLAP (3rd tab). If the check mark is there, then remove it.
    We are using the scenario in a couple of places, and it works very well.
    Hope this helps...

  • Field with a default value from another field

    I need to populate a field as the default value from another field that the user inputs. I've tried the scripting that I found from the below Topic in the Archived Forums, but I'm not able to make it work. I've tried numerous variations and still to no avail. I tried to make the scripting work in Acrobat 6 and then decided that maybe I needed to upgrade, so I'm now trying it in Acrobat 8 with no results. Can anyone help?

    How can I have a field date2 which has the default value of field date1, but which can be edited by the user if necessary without changing the value of date1.
    I've tried, but I just can't figure it out!

    This, or some variation of this, should work:
    if(this.getField("date2").value == ""{
    this.getField("date2").value = this.getField("date1).value;

    Thanks very much.
    I put it in at document level to start, but it didn't run the script automatically when date1 was first filled in, so I have put it in as a mouse exit action in date1 and it works a treat.
    Thanks for your help.
    Ben

    Okay forget what I posted above and lets start over. Go to your first field and under Properties -> Actions Tab -> Select Trigger -> On Blur Run A JavaScript.
    Put this:
    this.getField("myField2").value = event.target.value;
    Make sure that you replace ("myField2") with the actual name of your second field. I just tested this and it works for Acrobat version 6.
    I haven't been doing as much javascripting as I used to, so sometimes I too make some basic mistakes.

  • UPDATE SQL string substitution from another table

    Hi - I've come across a tricky situation where I would want to update a column in all the relevant rows of a table with values obtained from another table WITHIN the same column update using string concatenation. im not getting any clean way of doing this.
    The goal is to achieve something like this:
    UPDATE table1 set col1 =
    'LANG_ID=(%s),'||
    '_CHALLENGE_RESPONSE_=(%s),'||
    'CRDN_NAM=(%s),'||
    'CLNT_MODE=(%s),'||
    'PTY_ID=(%s),'||
    'CRDN_VAL=(%s),' ||
    'USER_TZ_COD=(%s),' ||
    'GTS_USER_ID=(%s),'||
    'SP_ID=(%s),' ||
    'SP_ALIAS=(%s),' ||
    'ORIG_CLNT_ID=(%s)'
    where table1.col1 is null
    and to substitute the (%s) with data from another table2*. An example is:
    update table1 set col1=
    'LANG_ID=(select LANG_ID from table2* where USER_ID = (select USER_ID from table1))' ||
    '_CHALLENGE_RESPONSE_=((select CHALLENGERESPONSE_ from table2* where USER_id = (select USER_ID from table1)),' ||
    etc for the rest of the values

    I tried this -although the database shows that the affected rows are updated! but querying the table doesn't show the values in the column!
    select col1 from table1 where col1 is null
    shows back the original content (DESPITE it showing me xxx rows updated!)
    UPDATE table1 t1
    SET col1 = (SELECT 'LANG_ID=('||lang_id||')_CHALLENGE_RESPONSE_=('||
    CHALLENGERESPONSE_|| ...*
    FROM table2 t2
    WHERE t1.user_id = t2.user_id)
    WHERE t1.col1 is null;

  • Get values from selected row in a Table?

    Hello.
    I'm on VC 7.1 (the trial version downloaded from SDN).
    I'm trying to figure out a way to retrieve some values from the currently selected row in a Table element through the output connector.
    I have a web-service which returns results to the Table, and I want the user to be able to select one of the rows and then trigger another web-service call with some of the values from that row -- is this possible?
    Also, I can't find any documentation that lists what can and can't be done with each UI element, is there something like this some where? (the Modeler's guide doesn't help, and the Reference guide seems to focus on menu items and what the VC screen looks like)
    Thanks,
    Alon

    Hi Alon
    This is a very simple task.
    You just need drag the service which you want to execute, after select row, in model.
    Drag output connector from table to input connector of service. Then map the parameter.

  • Values from another infocube

    hi all,
    I have to build a report on infoprovider A (infocube A). this report has a column, where data have to be calculated with information from another infoprovider (Infocube B).
    The information needed from B is just one value depending on parameter year.
    I didnt find  a way to put this value as variable
    in the query.
    Is there a way to get the information from Infocube B in the query?
    thanks for any help !

    If the info you need is always the same (unique) for the entire query you can use a formula variable and fill it thanks to an exit in which you can read the value from the infoprovider (look at previous posts in order to see how)...otherwise (if the value from the infoprovider can change for every row of your query) you have to do the same, but inside a virtual KF...
    Hope it helps!

  • Error while populating drop down list with values from a database

    Hi all,
    I have a JSP page with a drop down list that is to be populated with values from a database.
    This is the code in my JSP file:
         <!-- Form for picking the floor -->
             <!-- Get the available floors -->
             <% ArrayList<Integer> floornumbers = dataManager.getAllFloorNumbers();
                Iterator<Integer> iterator = floornumbers.iterator(); %>
             <!-- Create the form for users to select the floor -->
             <form id="floorselectionform">
                  <input type="hidden" name="action" value="floorselected"/> <!-- Guides the servlet to redirect to the appropriate page -->
                  Select floor | <select name="floorselector" id="floorselector">
                       <% while (iterator.hasNext()) { %>
                       <option value="<%=iterator.next().intValue()%>"> <%=iterator.next().intValue()%> </option>
                       <% } %>
                  </select>
                  <input type="submit" value="Go!"/>
             </form>   The DataManager.java class simply forwards this to its respective Peer class, which has the code shown below:
          package seatplanner.model;
        import java.sql.Connection;
        import java.sql.ResultSet;
        import java.sql.SQLException;
        import java.sql.Statement;
        import java.util.ArrayList;
        /* This class handles all floor operations */
         public class FloorPeer
         /* This method returns all the floor numbers */
         public static ArrayList<Integer> getAllFloorNumbers(DataManager dataManager) {
            ArrayList<Integer> floornumbers = new ArrayList<Integer>();
            Connection connection = dataManager.getConnection();
            if (connection != null) {
              try {
                Statement s = connection.createStatement();
                String sql = "select ID from floor order by ID asc";
                try {
                  ResultSet rs = s.executeQuery(sql);
                  try {
                    while (rs.next()) {
                      floornumbers.add(rs.getInt(1));
                  finally { rs.close(); }
                finally {s.close(); }
              catch (SQLException e) {
                System.out.println("Could not get floor numbers: " + e.getMessage());
              finally {
                dataManager.putConnection(connection);
            return floornumbers;
         }  The classes compile properly, but when I load this page up in Tomcat it just freezes and does not load the form. I tested the DB connection and it works fine.
    What am I doing wrong in the JSP code?
    Thanks for the help in advance.
    UPDATE: I commented out the form, and added <%=floornumbers.size()%> right above the commented code to check if the ArrayList is indeed getting populated with the values from the database (the values are of type integer in the database). The page still freezes like before. I'm puzzled now :confused: .

    Wrong usage of Iterator.
    <!-- Form for picking the floor -->
             <!-- Get the available floors -->
             <% ArrayList<Integer> floornumbers = dataManager.getAllFloorNumbers();
                Iterator<Integer> iterator = floornumbers.iterator(); %>

                       <% } %>
                  </select>
                  <input type="submit" value="Go!"/>
             </form>or make use of enhanced loop as you are already using J2SE 5.0+ for avoiding confusions.
    <!-- Form for picking the floor -->
             <!-- Get the available floors -->
             <% ArrayList<Integer> floornumbers = dataManager.getAllFloorNumbers(); %>
             <!-- Create the form for users to select the floor -->
             <form id="floorselectionform">
                  <input type="hidden" name="action" value="floorselected"/> <!-- Guides the servlet to redirect to the appropriate page -->
                  Select floor | <select name="floorselector" id="floorselector">
                       <% for(Integer inte:floornumbers) {%>
                       <option value="<%=inte.intValue()%>"><%=inte.intValue()%></option>
                       <%}%>
                  </select>
                  <input type="submit" value="Go!"/>
             </form>and a lot better thing would be making usage of basic Taglib provided with JSTL spec or struts spec which make life easier and simple.
    something like usage of <c:forEach/> or <logic:iterate/> would be lot better without writing a single scriptlet code.
    Hope that might help :)

  • Infosource Fields with values from multiple Data Sources

    Hi Experts,
    My question is:
    i have to load values of only few fields of 0LIS_11_VAHDR and few fields of 0LIS_11_VAITM into one infocube.
    If i just create one infosource with those fields only in communication structure, but then i can assign only one data source at time, how to load values from another datasources at same time?
    Can i do it using single infosurce? and if yes any guideline....
    Thanks......

    My dear, the problem is that even for the first solution (only one infosource) you have to manage two separate dataloads, since linking several datasources to one infosource means only that you can manage a unique communication structure, but different transfer rules/structures and, avove all, two different infopackages !
    So, you have anyway to face the automation issue of your dataloading.
    My suggestion has been more functional and conceptual than technical (for which I gave the same answer, that is, "you can do it"): you are not loading a master data source (the same object 0MATERIAL) with attributes, texts and hierarchies (and in this case it's obvious that you have to use one infosource); here you want to use the infosource dedicated to the header flow to load item info too (and you will have to use the same and unique update rules).
    Again, no problem from a technical point of view, but I guess that someone who will look into your architecture, probably, will have something to say with this kind of choice !!!
    Bye,
    Roberto

  • How To Concatenate Column Values from Multiple Rows into a Single Column?

    How do I create a SQL query that will concatenate column values from multiple rows into a single column?
    Last First Code

    Result should look like:
    Last First Codes
    Lesand Danny 1,2,3
    Benedi Eric 7,14
    Thanks,
    David Johnson

    Starting with Oracle 9i
    select last, first, substr(max(sys_connect_by_path(code,',')),2) codes
    from
    (select last, first, code, row_number() over(partition by last, first order by code) rn
    from a)
    connect by last = prior last and first = prior first and prior rn = rn -1
    start with rn = 1
    group by last, first

  • Variable type Hierarchy, how to get the value from another similar variable

    Hi.
    We have created a variable, type hierarchy (using ORGEH hierarchy in HR based on 0ORGUNIT). Let's call this VAR1. We want to fill this with an User Exit, beacuse we want VAR1 to have the value from another variable, VAR2, which is also type hierarchy (and based on the same characteristic).
    However, when we program this user exit and use the VAR1 afterwards, it just behaves as if we have a single characteristic value and not a node value. As a result, we just get posts which do have the 'parent itself' as characteristic value, and none of the subnodes...  Any hints as to what we can do in our User exit to get the value passed over from VAR2 to VAR1 as a node value? Is there any spesific syntax to be used here that we are missing? ( The VAR1 and VAR2 are both defined as hierarchy variables, we have double checked...).

    Hi,
    are you on BI7.0? There you can create variables type replacement path and get the value out from a different variable without any coding.
    regards
    Cornelia
