Update of databases via multiple servers

          Hi all.
          I want to build a scenario like the one in section 17.2.3. of EJB 2.0 spec: one ejb
          in one weblogic accessing other ejb in another weblogic but in a single transaction.
          To achieve this I have configured tx pools with the JDriver (I'm using Oracle 9i),
          and have configured the ejbs transaction as "required" in the deployment descriptor.
          I want to use container managed transaction.
          Do I need anything else to accomplish this scenario? (say.. have clustering?) ?
          I'm using both Weblogic 6.1.
          The problem I'm having is that first ejb have problems commiting the transaction
          once the second return is situation.
          Thanks in advanced for any ideas or pointers for documentation.
          Tiago

I finally found it here but it just shows "silent installation" that works on the local computer which is pretty senseless as you still need to log in to the client where you want to update the JRE.

  • Separating a database onto multiple servers

    We are working on a product that uses a set of SQL Server databases that are currently all in one instance and on one server. Now that we are growing, we need more processing power/space. So we want to move the databases onto multiple servers.
    So we would not need to "shard", we created separate databases (with the same schema) for each company that purchased the product. We could readily put different company databases onto the different servers.
    The question is this, how to we handle the routing to the different servers?
    If we would have "sharded" the data in one database with different keys, SQL Server tools would have handled the routing for us. Because we actually separated the databases, do we have to do the routing manually? (That is, do we need to figure
    out that when company A logs in that they need to go to database server aa.aa.aa while compay B needs to go to server bb.bb.bb?) Or is there a product that can help us with the routing?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
    Based on your description, it seems that you want to copy all schema from a "Shared" database into other servers and separate data into the tables based on the company name.
    If I understand correctly, you can try to use the
    SQL Server Import and Export Data Wizard to copy data from table or view to destination server and specify query to restrict data  for copy. Or you can use linked server and
    SELECT INTO statement with condition to move the data.
    As per my understanding about the "Handling routing", balancing capability. In order to meet your requirement, you have to load balance through your application's design.

  • Update Access database via OleDB from DataGridView

    I have been scouring these forums and the internet in general as well as doing a lot of reading, all to no avail.  I can not seem to successfully update the Access database from an edited DataGridView.  I am trying to use Stored Procedures that
    are in the Access database and work fine therein.  The DGV is filled in properly.  I have tried an ever-increasing number of variants to update the database (Private Sub BtnUpdate...)  without success.  I'd really, really appreciate some
    guidance here.
    Here is my code thus far:
    Public Class Form1
        Dim con As OleDbConnection
        Dim cmd As OleDbCommand
        Dim da As OleDbDataAdapter
        Dim ds As DataSet
        Dim ProviderConnectionString As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="
        Dim TargetList As String = "C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\Development5\Test.mdb"
        Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
            'establish a connection to the database
            con = New OleDbConnection(ProviderConnectionString & TargetList)
            con.Open()
            'define the command to be used
            cmd = New OleDbCommand
            cmd.Connection = con
            cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
            cmd.CommandText = "ListAllTargets"
             'create the data adapter based on the command
            da = New OleDbDataAdapter(cmd)
            'fill the data set based on the command
            ds = New DataSet
            da.Fill(ds, "AllTargets")
            'bind and load dgvTargets with the data
            dgvTargetList.DataSource = ds.Tables("AllTargets")  ' Binding to dgvtargetlist
         End Sub
        Private Sub btnUpdate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdate.Click
             da.UpdateCommand = New OleDbCommand("UPDATE TargetList SET;", con)
            Validate()
            da.Update(ds.Tables("AllTargets"))
            Me.ds.AcceptChanges()
        End Sub
    End Class

    Hi John,
    Welcome to MSDN forums!
    Cor pointed you to the right direction. An OleDBCommandbuilder object is required, which can be used to automatically
    generate DeleteCommand, UpdateCommand and InsertCommand for DataAdapter object.
    Here is detailed walkthrough: How to update
    (Insert/Update/Delete) data back into MS Access database from DataGridView.
    1) New a WinForms project, drag&drop DataGridView1 and Button1 onto
    Form1.
    2) Add database file test.mdb to project via: Data menu -> Add New Data Source
    Wizard ... then you can use ralative path to this database file in code
    3) Select/click
    your database file test.mdb in Solution Explorer
    -> Properties Pane
    -> change the "copy to ouput directory" to "copy
    if newer"
    4) Code sample
    Imports System.Data.OleDb
    Public
    Class Form1
    Dim myDA As OleDbDataAdapter
    Dim myDataSet As DataSet
    Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender
    As System.Object, ByVal e
    As System.EventArgs) Handles
    MyBase.Load
    Dim con As OleDbConnection =
    New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0;data source=|DataDirectory|\test.mdb")  ' Use relative path to database file
    Dim cmd As OleDbCommand =
    New OleDbCommand("SELECT * FROM Table1", con)
    con.Open()
    myDA = New OleDbDataAdapter(cmd)
    'Here one CommandBuilder object is required.
          'It will automatically generate DeleteCommand,UpdateCommand and InsertCommand for DataAdapter object
    Dim builder As OleDbCommandBuilder =
    New OleDbCommandBuilder(myDA)
    myDataSet = New DataSet()
    myDA.Fill(myDataSet, "MyTable")
    DataGridView1.DataSource = myDataSet.Tables("MyTable").DefaultView
    con.Close()
    con = Nothing
    End Sub
    ' Save data back into database
    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender
    As System.Object, ByVal e
    As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
    Me.Validate()
    Me.myDA.Update(Me.myDataSet.Tables("MyTable"))
    Me.myDataSet.AcceptChanges()
    End Sub
    End
    Class

  • How to update a database from an MS Excel

    Hi,
    I'm developing an application that would let the user view and edit the data from the database through Excel. My problem is, I need to update the database after the data was modified from MS Excel that doesn't need manual intervention.
    Thanks,
    mangyan

    At the risk of encouraging newbies to ask Microsoft specific questions on this Sun site...... the arch-enemy of Microsoft.....
    You can write a VB Macro to execute when the user clicks a button / control on the spreadsheet to say "Commit to database".
    Or maybe ask the user just before they close the database.
    VB has various database methods, like OpenDatabase.
    See examples in the Macro editor.
    Or if you want to give yourself an ounce of self respect, you could write a JSP application to input the values, and update a database via JDBC.
    regards,

  • Multiple servers hung on reboot after installing the following April 2014 Updates. Anyone else?

    We installed the following updates last night via WSUS.  All of our Windows 2012 R2 servers rebooted but then stuck with the swirling logo and never booted back in to Windows.  We had to power them off and back on again.
    Anyone else find issues with these patches and experience this?  This was consistent.  We are running Vsphere 5.5 u1.

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay. Appreciate your patience.
    Regards.
    Vivian Wang
    Hello and thank you.  I was able to narrow this down to KB2939087 and reproduce.
    Only our IIS servers, and domain controllers had the problem.  Vanilla 2012 R2 servers did not hang on boot up.
    We installed VIA WSUS and the servers automatically rebooted OK and installed OK but upon boot up they got stuck at the swirling logo and stayed their indefinately until we hard reset them and powered them back up.  There no nothing in the event whatsoever
    to indicate a problem.
    Kind of a big deal to have to babysit all of these servers and hard reset them after installing this update via WSUS.

  • Update a field in an access database via TestStand

    I want to read a value from a numeric field in an MS Access database, increment that value by one, and then update the database record that I got the value from with the new value. I am able to execute an Open Database step, execute a Open SQL Statement step with a SELECT query, execute a "Get" operation in a Data Operation step to get the value into a TestStand variable, and increment the value, but I'm at a loss for how to update the databse record with the incremented value.
    I tried to execute another Open SQL Statement step with an UPDATE statement, but I get a "Specified value does not have the expected type." error. The TestStand variable type is a number, and the Data Type of the database field is Number. I've tried using long integer, double, and decimal as field sizes, but they all give me the same error.
    I also tried to execute a "Set" operation with another Data Operation step against the original Statement Handle. When I do this, the Data Operation runs without error, but when I run a Close SQL Statement step against the statement handle I get an "ADODB.Recordset: Operation is not allowed in this context." error.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Scripter -
    When you try to do a Set and Put, it is always good to explicitly set the statement's cursor type to something other than forward only, like keyset, and the lock type to something other than read-only. See if that helps...

  • Config of multiple SQL-Server databases without multiple gateways-possible?

    Hi Guys
    Can someone tell me if there's any way of connecting to different SQL Server databases (using Transparent Gateway) WITHOUT having to create multiple gateways?
    I have read in various sources that I MUST create one gateway per target database. I was contemplating a workaround such as creating a sysadmin SS user (and using these credentials in the db link) and trying to access any one of the databases within the SS instance. As I'm sure you know, you can query a SS database via a sysadmin user like:
    select * from my_db.dbo.my_table
    I realise it was a long shot to execute this from Oracle select * from my_db.dbo.my_table@my_dblink and yes....it didn't work.
    We have SS databases that are constantly dropped, recreated, renamed etc so we don't want to configure transparent gateway for a database only for it to be dropped 5 minutes later.
    Thanks in advance, Jon

  • How to set up  Planning on Multiple Servers

    Hi,
    1) I am trying to install a Finance Planning application so that it runs on one Planning Web Server and the other operations Planning application on another Planning 9.3.1 web server. Is that possilbe?
    2) May be unrelated question:
    HP_Windows_Install.pdf has only a few lines explaining how to set up Planning on Multiple Servers. Is it as simple as that?
    Here are the "few lines" from install.pdf:
    Perform the same installation and configuration process on your secondary servers, making sure to choose
    Planning Web Server component for any secondary server.
    Make sure you select Reuse existing tables when prompted during the Configure a Database task
    in the Configuration utility.

    Tomcat.
    But it will be nice to know the steps for Weblogic too - as Weblogic will be bundled "free" with future releases of Planning.

  • Problem viewing/updating MySQL-database with utf-8 charset

    System specs:
    Tomcat 5.5.4
    JDK1.5.0
    MySQL 4.1
    Connector/J 3.0.16
    JSTL 1.1
    I am trying to build a guestbook web-app, and want to be able to store swedish characters (available in latin1) and decided to give utf-8 a go since it would support other languages as well. I use a <Resource> in my context-xml to get the connection.
    This simply will not work; when I use the <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=utf-8"%> declaration, the swedish characters in the raw html-code gets replaced by questionmarks. Select-queries output look ok though, as long as they don't contain the character ''
    When removing the page-declaration, the queries show only questionmarks where swedish characters should be.
    The same goes for updating my database. Swedish characters get garbled.
    I have tried the following without success:
    *adding &useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=UTF-8 to the Resource-url -- causes my web-app to fail loading.
    *adding a <filter> to the web-apps web.xml as suggested at  http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-09-2004/jw-0906-unicode_p.html -- caused another web-app error, resulting in it not being loaded.
    *setting the form attribute accept-charset -- resulted in no improvement.
    Right now I'm half desperate and half fed-up. Is this a common problem with MySQL? Should I use another database? Or perhaps it is the Connector/J Driver that's messing things up.
    I'll appreciate any help I get greatly.

    Hello. Maybe not so interesting after a year to try to ask did you ever get a final solution to that problem in command line perspective. OR does somebody else knows solution to this problem.
    Anyway I have similar problem, I use mysql5 with latin1 charset and I can insert to my database letters normally via mysql command line and they show perfectly. But the problem is my web application.
    I can insert all characters to database and retrieve them normally via web app but if i need to use mysql command line for queries it fails because those special letters appear something like . I still need to make queries on mysql command line as admin. I have also tried to change different drivers like
    Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver"); or
    com.mysql.jdbc.Driver etc connector is 3.0.17
    I have also tried to change to utf-8 and then changed mysql def.enc to same... i have used request.setWHATEVER CHARSET.....i'm out of ideas... help?

    When I open the JDBC connection, I see the expected hierarchy of schemas and tables in the Database Expert window.  If I try to select a table I get the following error message if a table of that same name exists in other schemas:
    Failed to retrieve data from the database.
    Details:  SQL exception: [SQL State:]  42000  [Error message:]  DB002046 T11094 C-4M347: Duplicate table ids for ASISCHEM.SR-ACT and CORPCHEM.SR-ACT in area CORPDB.ACTIVITY-AREA [Database Vendor Code: -4]
    So although we can connect to the database via JDBC, we can't use the connectivity because Crystal  does not appear to correctly resolve that I'm selecting the table from within a specific schema.
    Can anyone advise on how to make sure the table name selection is qualified by the correct schema name?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    Try running the query outside of CR to verify the JDBC driver is passing the fully qualified name also.
    Then look in the Designer and Show SQL to verify it's there as well as Set Table Location. You may be able to fully qualify it in that UI.
    Thank you
    Don

  • RE: DataField, update underlying data via TOOL,Express

    John,
    does it work if you mix the "CopyfromClipboard" method with the "PlaceValueinDisplayedField" ?
    If this is not the correct solution to you problem, could you please specify "where" it does not work ?
    Thanks a lot indeed.
    Best regards

    Subject: DataField, update underlying data via TOOL, Express
    In TOOL code we PasteText() into a DataField, but the underlying data
    object does not get updated until the user interacts with the GUI.
    That causes problems if we need to use the underlying data object's
    value immediately after the paste. How can we:
    force an update of the underlying data object and
    ensure that the update goes through before our method call returns,
    i.e., ensure that if the update is via Forte events, those events
    are handled before returning.
    The context is a calendar lookup button that pastes into an adjoining
    DataField.

    Well, I think I have answered my own question, but I will leave it here in case anyone else has the same problem.
    So, as far as I have been able to track down, it all went wrong when I was running through the connection wizard.
    Under the section titled "Creating the Data Source" is describes how to find your database file and create the appropriate connection string. However, on my version of VS Express 2010 . It offered me a prompts , saying something like, "would you like to
    move this database file into the application directory and change the connection string" this sounded very sensible to me, so I said yes.
    All proceeded accordingly. And the database file now appeared in the solution explorer.
    The app config file said that the connection string was
    Data Source=|DataDirectory|\Database1.sdf"
    I presumed this would be interpreted correctly by the rest of the app, as it was generated by VS.
    But it didn't, what I cannot understand is how no error was generated. And data seemed to pull
    into the bound controls.
    But I have been testing it for a while now. and it seems that if I manually override the config file with the actual directory where the file exists , then there is not a problem. Data is retained in the file
    This is more of a VB.net question, but I couldn't find it in the drop down. I will try and move it there now
    Thanks guys for your patience.
    p.s. RSingh , the code I posted above did come from the SaveItem_Click event
    handler

  • Multiple Servers for Development Team in WLI2.1 on wlidomain

    Has anyone tried to create multiple servers so that a development team can share
    the resources of a domain with WLI 2.1? If so, how did it work. I have done this
    with WLS but would like to try it with WLI.
    I tried to create multiple servers, but, had difficulty as there seems to many
    resources that are tied to the server name and default port. Also, I tried to
    change the port and that caused alot of problems on the myserver.

    Thanks John.
    I was not looking for something which is scaling out Hyperion Planning(via load balancer)/Horizontal clustering.
    But was looking for some thing like Vertical clustering(multiple JVMs/nodes of Hyperion Planning within a single planning server) which was applicable in 11.1.1.3.
    Came to know that with 11.1.2.2 vertical clustering not more supported.
    Thanks
